Education Notes Family Dodgeball

Ramstein Middle School hosts its annual Family Dodgeball Night at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 in the school’s multipurpose hall. A light dinner will be served, and the games begin at 6 p.m. Pre-register your team of six by emailing ptsa.dodgeball@gmail.com with the team name and members’ names and ages, or register at the event. This event is free for Parent Teacher Student Association members, $8 per adult and $5 per student or non-members. To become a member of the PTSA, you may fill out paperwork on the spot and receive a discounted price. Entry fees are due by 5:40 p.m. the day of the event. E-Degree Plan

Starting Oct. 1, all personnel requesting tuition assistance are required to have uploaded their electronic Degree Plan into their education record in the Air Force Virtual Education Center site accessed through the Air Force Portal. Meet with your school’s academic adviser for your e-Degree Plan, and then take the time to upload your courses. For more information, contact the education center.

College night

New school administrators introduced to KMC

U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz and Ramstein High School present College Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Kaiserslautern Special Events Center, Bldg. 237 on Rhine Ordnance Barracks. More than 80 accredited colleges and universities with representatives from the states and across Europe will inform visitors about education opportunities. Food and beverages will be available. Three of the KMC’s newest school principals were introduced to the Armed Forces Network Kaiserslautern’s morning audience by KMC School Liaison Officer Sabine Koch (far right). Manning the sound board and handling the interview was Senior Airman Eli Smith while Sgt. Kent Redmond took phone calls from listeners. The principals, all new this year to the KMC, are (from left to right) Sharon O’Donnell (Ramstein High School), Brad Seadore (Kaiserslautern Middle School) and Penelope Miller-Smith (Kaiserslautern Elementary School). All three expressed excitement about their new positions and are looking forward to working with the students, parents and community leaders.

Teen Advisory Group meeting

The Teen Advisory Group meeting is your opportunity to make your voices heard about library programs and materials you want to see. The meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Rheinland-Pfalz Library, Bldg. 3810 on Landstuhl’s Wilson Barracks. This meeting is for teens, ages 13 to 17. Shakespeare for Young Actors

Shakespeare for Young Actors is an intensive approach to the spoken language of performance using Shakespeare as the benchmark. Students will be taught to speak in “Elevated Standard” or “mid-Atlantic” English with special emphasis on diction and elocution. Students will gain an understanding of the usage of “verse” versus “prose” in literature and performance. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays until Oct. 2. Students will perform in An Evening of One Acts Oct. 3 to 5 and 17 to 19 with possible additional performances on Oct. 10 and 11. Cost is $150 per student and $100 per additional child. Teen Techie Day

Teen Techie Day encourages libraries to throw open their physical and virtual doors to teens and showcase the outstanding technology they offer, from services such as online homework help to resources like eBooks, movies, music, video games, databases and more. On Oct. 3, come to the Rheinland-Pfalz Library during opening hours for National Techie Day. The library staff will also host a table outside of the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Dining Facility from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to show patrons their services. The Rheinland-Pfalz Library is
