As we increasingly source furniture from a worldwide chain of suppliers, this is making the quality & safety assessment of furniture even more challenging. Adding to the complexity is the need for identifying and complying with regulatory and industry standards for the multiple markets, in which we will sell the furniture.
To make sure our products are legally compliant our Legal Compliance and Quality Assurance Team offer a wide range of services:
We prioritize to test all the cover materials we use for our furniture (fabric, PU, leather etc.) this is in regards to both chemical and durability testing. We will test specific products according to applicable international and European safety standards to make sure they are safe in use.
Our furniture testing focus on the safety, strength, durability, fatigue, stability, impact, and flammability properties of the products. We also have a random testing control program in place, this means that we will randomly pick samples during Quality Control inspection and ask an accredited test institute to verify that the sample comply with the specified Actona requirements. This we do to ensure that the products are safe and not harmful for the user of the product.
Timber
EU Timber Regulation (EU-TR) (EU) No 995/2010 – Europe. The purpose of the law is to prevent import of products made from illegal harvested wood.
The Regulation covers a wide range of timber products listed in its Annex using EU Custom code nomenclature. The applicable EU Custom codes for furnture are 9403 30, 9403 40, 9403 5000, 9403 60, 9403 90 30, and 441400. This means that not all kind of furniture is within the scope of the EU-TR (e.g. Chairs and sofas)
The importer is required to have a Due Diligence system in place. This means that the importer shall have access to the information about the timber used in the covered products. The wording “access” means that the retailer is not obliged to have the information on hand, but is given a certain period to collect the required information. Actona Group will maintain and make sure that we make a Due Diligence on all covered products. If the authorities ask for any documentation for a certain product, please contact your daily contact at Actona. We will make sure that we provide sufficient information to the authorities. This will apply no matter whether Actona or the retailer are classified importer. The Danish authorities have approved the Actona Due Dilligence system.
From November 30 2014, anyone importing a ‘regulated timber product’ into Australia will be required to have carried out due diligence prior to import, to comply with the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition. The Due diligence requirement is the same as for EU-TR, therefore we can provide all the applicable documentation if required.
REACH is a European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006).
This regulation is mandatory for all products placed on the European market both by importers and by European manufactures. The REACH regulation
is a very complicated and extensive regulation, which set up requirements for both the importer and retailer. The legal department will make sure to update Actona with the changes to the regulation and will make sure that the Actona products are compliant.

Actona established a QC department in China in 2002. Today we have Quality Control inspectors (QC) and Quality assurance inspectors (QA) located local all around Asia. Inspections in Eastern Europe are handled from the department in DK.
QC INSPECTION – Before the inspection
At Actona, quality starts with the design of the product. Our highly skilled quality assurance team makes sure that the construction and packaging comply with our quality standard. Before we approve any new product, we will make sure that it complies with the legal requirements in your market and is safe for use.
QC INSPECTION – Pre production sample
The sample developers will produce the pre production sample, and approve this sample (safety, durability, stability and general appearance).
QC INSPECTION – Trial production
Partial QC on an order (500 pcs/= 50). All new items has to go through a trial production. A trial production means that the factory produces a percentage of a regular order according to approved pre production sample, manufactured in the regular mass production line. This way we can ensure the production line can live up to the agreed pre production sample. We will check any potential issues during the trial production, such as pressure marks, stability, construction, packing, etc.
QC INSPECTION – Complete order
Our quality control inspectors will check the products before shipment and make sure that the physical appearances live up to the quality requirements (QC report). In general minimum 5% of an order will be checked.
QC INSPECTION – Before shipment
We inspect below overall subjects: Dimension, measuring, comparing with the signed master sample, color/ finish/ texture, packing, assembly/ assembly instruction, comfort, function, workmanship, sound, construction, stability, labels/ shipping marks, cleaning, etc…
When the inspector has finished the inspection he will issue a QC report, and we release the order for shipment.
