Powerful Beyond Measure Please join us as Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty explores various aspects of leadership. What is leadership? Is it all about power and control? Do we have free reign to power by our mere existence and is that leadership? What is the model of servant-leader and how can we reimagine a future based on an awareness of the needs of others? Rev. Dr. Matty and the congregation of First Parish will delve into these and other questions on this timely and timeless subject.

Volunteers Needed To Provide 45,000 Meals For Hungry Families Middlesex County is the hungriest county in Massachusetts with over 130,000 people living in households that struggle to put food on the table. On Sunday, March 1 local congregations and organizations are giving residents of Sudbury a unique opportunity to help our neighbors in need. Beginning at 11am, Memorial Congregational Church will be sponsoring an event to package 45,000 meals. These nutritious meals are comprised of rice, fortified soy protein, vegetables, and essential vitamins & minerals. The dry food packages contain six servings, have a long shelf life, and are easy to prepare at a cost of only 25 cents each. You can help out in 1, 2, or 3 ways.

OPEN YOUR HOME TO A LOVING COMPANION

Leo Male, 10 months old, fluffy black and white cat.

When I first arrived, I shared a cage with Priest and Bernie but they recently got adopted. Fortunately, I was rescued from a PTS situation and fostered by some nice ladies until I could come here. You’ll love me once you meet me. I’ll reach out for when you walk by. When you hold me, I’ll groom your face and purr at the same time. Obviously, I get along with other cats too. I’m one of THE friendliest cats here and I really want a home for the holidays. I’m writing a letter to Santa now – Please find me a loving home with a nice family and a lonely cat looking for a buddy. Hugs & Kisses – Leo. P.S.: I’m at the Pat Brody Shelter. All cats are fixed and up to date on shots. Please visit our website: catsontheweb.org to view all our shelter residents and craft store.

Stock the car for roadside emergencies Disasters can happen in a flash, and having a plan in place for common emergency situations can make it easier to handle adverse conditions, particularly when away from home. According to MFASCO Health and Safety, a supplier of first aid supplies and kits, 90 percent of people do not carry first aid supplies or other emergency gear in their vehicles. Among those who may carry supplies, 30 percent never check to determine if they’re in good working order. The National Safety Council says that drivers should always keep emergency supply kits in the trunks or cargo areas of their vehicles. Kits should be inspected every six months, and worn out items should be replaced. Roadside emergency kits can make the difference between getting back on the road safely or being stranded for hours. Such kits also may help prevent or treat injuries, potentially saving lives. Weather should be considered when preparing vehicle emergency kits, which should include the following. • A properly inflated spare tire and tire-changing equipment • Jumper cables • A multipurpose utility tool and/or tool kit • Flashlight and batteries • Flares or triangle reflectors • An extra quart of motor oil • A first-aid kit containing at the least, gauze, tape, bandages, antibiotic ointment, aspirin, nonlatex gloves, scissors, hydrocortisone, thermometer, tweezers, and instant cold compress • A blanket • A tire pressure gauge • A portable tire inflator • Paper towels • Nonperishable, high-energy foods • Drinking water • A reflective vest • Duct tape • A fire extinguisher • An ice scraper • A folding shovel • Coolant and washer fluid • A phone charger • Baby/child supplies, if pertinent • Rope Keep roadside emergency kits organized at all times. Store items securely in a milk crate, box or backpack so they are always readily available. People should familiarize themselves with the items in the kit so they know how to use them correctly and quickly. With some planning and organization, drivers can have the supplies they will need to make it through roadside emergencies safely.

Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts. Voting 101 Event To Cover Registration, Early Voting, Absentee Ballots “Voting 101,” the inaugural program of the new Micah Center for Social Justice Learning and Practice, will take place at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 537 Bolton St., Marlborough, on Wednesday, January 15 at 7 pm. Snow date is January 22. Guest speaker Stephen Kerrigan, Marlborough City Clerk, will not only go over the basics of voting, but will also explain how to participate in the recently adopted early voting for the March 3 Presidential Primary that takes place February 24-28. Early voters can cast their ballots in person or by mail. The public is invited to attend Voting 101. There will be a Portuguese translator available. In addition to early voting, Kerrigan will discuss “registration, the absentee ballot process, and how to keep your voting status active.” Voters have options that vary from appearing in person at City Hall to staying home and going online. Kerrigan will also answer questions. “I am excited, and looking forward to this event,” Kerrigan said. “It is very important to exercise your right to vote.” The Micah Center was begun as an initiative of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, but has attracted community members as individuals and from other organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metrowest, and the Marlborough Public Library. The center’s goal is to lift up the good work being done in the area and examine the ideas that drive that good work. In addition

A New Chapter, St. John Lutheran With Interim Pastor Sandra D’Amico, we embark on a time of reflection and imagination as we consider our life in Christ -- in Sudbury and in the world. Which parts of our life are tried and true, which parts don’t fit as well as they used to, what needs -- and inspirations -- do we perceive, in the greater world, and in our community? Join us for this fruitful time. Our Sunday services are at 9:30 a.m. Our Bible Study has a new day and time: Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. We are studying the parables of Jesus. We also offer Seniorcize, a free, low-impact exercise program focusing on balance, toning, and stretching. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Karen LaCure at 978-443-8350 or just come to a class. St. John is located at 16 Great Road in Sudbury. For more information, please call 978-443-8350, or visit us at www.stjohnsudburyma.org.

Memorial Congregational Church In Sudbury “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!” Join us for worship this Sunday at 10am. We will join together to sing songs, listen to the preachers’ reflections on the week’s scripture and lean on one another and God in prayer. Sunday worship service begins at 10 a.m.; youth from pre-K to 12th grade stay with their family in worship for the first 15 minutes and are invited to leave worship after the children’s moment to go to Faith Exploration where they use theater, art, cooking, games and more to further their understanding of the Bible. They are currently learning about Moses and the Plagues and working on Goal Setting. One of our goals this year is for our youth to learn all the books of the Bible. Come and join the fun! Childcare for infants and toddlers is provided every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until the end of the service. Our music program has something for everyone! On Wednesdays from 5:30 -6:00 we have Intermediate Choir for those in grades 4-6; from 6:00-6:30 we have Junior Choir for those in grades K-3; from 6:30-7:00 there is instrumental music for youth of all ages; at 7:10 there is Gospel Choir for youth in grades 9-12. On Saturday mornings from 9:00-9:45 we have the Cherub Choir for preschoolers with an adult. Our adult choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 and Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. before worship service. All are welcome to any of our music programs; no need to be a member of our congregation! For more information on any of our youth music

programs please contact rachel@mccsudbury.org Youth Groups meet Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. For more information on any of our youth programs please contact our Minister of Youth and Families at stephanie@mccsudbury.org. Upcoming Events Sunday Mar 1 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Packaging shelf-stable meals for local food pantries. MCC will once again join with other congregations and individuals in and around Sudbury to package shelf-stable meals which will be donated to area food pantries. Out goal is to pack 45,000 meals in 8 hours. We will need to raise over $13,000 to defray the cost of the ingredients and will need many willing volunteers. To donate toward this cause or to sign up to volunteer, please visit mccSudbury.org and click on “get involved Sunday, Mar 14 5:30-9 Annual Trivia Night. This year our dinner and trivia competition will be “zero waste” in alignment with our mission to reuse, reduce and recycle! Details to follow. MCC is located at 26 Concord Rd (across from Goodnow Library in Sudbury) and is open to and accepting of all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, marital status or financial situation. All areas of the building are universally accessible including the Church School wing, which is accessible by portable ramps present in the building. Fun By The Numbers Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test!

Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
