Anthropic Infrastructure
Portman’s America & Other Speculations
Yoeun Chung (MAUD), Luke Tan (MAUD) Zhengzhou: Designing Critical Nodes for the Urban Grids Instructor: Joan Busquets Design priority will be given to public transportation integral nodes (PTIN) as hierarchical points of urban centralities. The study of a few “critical nodes” may give room to understand how the maxi-grid can allow development by enclaves where the development of mixed-use program and new forms of housing may be possible.
Exhibition in Frances Loeb Library August 28–October 25, 2017 Portman’s America & Other Speculations takes an unconventional and speculative approach toward the understanding and future potentials of the work of one of the world’s most creative, controversial, daring, and prolific architects. The exhibition features materials from the 2017 book of the same title edited by Mohsen Mostafavi, with new photos by Iwan Baan, copublished by Lars Müller Publishers and the GSD.
The project aims to bring the site’s confluent forces into a synergistic relationship in three operations: first, by reconfiguring the interchange to liberate its previously inaccessible residual areas; second, by introducing a programmed green spine to increase access and influence of the adjacent metro station while preserving the city’s symbolic axis; finally, by gridding the adjacent regions to enhance connectivity for densification.
