Restaurant Review For a touch of the Arabian scene you must try Azouma! On Thursday the 28th of October Across Kent were kindly invited to sample the food and atmosphere of Azouma restaurant in Canterbury. Having never experienced Moroccan or Lebanese before, we were looking forward to trying the food from this cuisine, although with slight reservation. We were welcomed by the owner Azi z and his staff then taken to our table, which was in a delightful section of the restaurant with a glass roof and traditional Moroccan décor and furniture. We were allowed to settle before our waitress enquired what drinks we would like. In fact all through our eating experience we did not feel rushed or made to feel our table was required for the next couple coming in. The restaurant was filled with couples, families with children and even a business group downstairs in the function room.

After ha ving had explained that all the meat is halal and fresh, our starter came, which smelt and looked very inviting. My wife had the Jawanah, which is chicken wings in a garlic sauce. I went for the full experience and chose the Full Azouma Meal, this comprised of a mixture of starters to begin with which included Sambousek, pastry parcels filled with 3 different cheeses and herbs and then deep fried which tasted lovely. I also had Falafel, a vegetable cone, Lebneh which is a Lebanese dish of yoghurt, mint, garlic and olive oil all served with fried bread, similar to small crisps which really tasted nice. All of the starters were served with Harissa which is a sweet dip. As my wife and I tucked into our starters we knew we were in for a treat, everything was presented very nice and we could have happily eaten all the starters again as it was a variety of tastes, all of which were lovely. After our empty plates were taken away we looked forward to our main course. My wife went for the Samakeh Harrah, which is a Lebanese style way of cooking Sea Bass with a Sesame sauce coating accompanied with rice, pine nuts and a mixed salad. As I had gone for the Full Azouma Meal I was

treated to Tagine Lahem Belbarkouk, which is slow cooked lamb with prunes, apricots and roasted almonds in a bowl which contained some of the juice that it had been cooked in, all served with rice and side salad. Both our meals were well presented, very warm and plentiful, especially as we also had Moroccan potatoes and Lebanese flat bread as side orders. For pudding we had Baklava, sweet pastry cakes, all washed down with Moroccan mint tea and Arabic coffee. All of this was accompanied by the e xotic Belly Dancer, who made sure she danced for each table section so everyone received the full experience. Our whole meal including several drinks came to a very reasonable £47 for both of us. We had an enjoyable evening and would recommend that if you fancy something slightly different, try the Azouma Restaurant in Canterbury. Our only small critique, if we had to find one, would be that if you are slightly on the large size, (such as myself), sit on the bench seats and not the chairs!
