Dear Academia Cotopaxi Community, We are pleased to share with you information on our extra-curricular programs this year. Attached you will find a flyer with information related to what programs we are offering as well as times and registration details for Grades 1 to 8 (programs for Kinder start in January 2015). Please take note that registration for extra-curricular programs will be done on line this year. On Friday September 5th you will receive a link to register. Registration will be open for two days only: Monday, September 8th and Tuesday September 9th. Spaces in our extra-curricular activities will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Please note that spaces are limited and we will establish waitlists when necessary. This year we are offering two new programs: Little Kickers Gr. 1-4 Soccer and Choir Gr. 6-8; both of these programs are paid programs and the fees are outlined in the flyer. Extracurricular Activities General Information Schedule and Registration Information Extracurricular and sports activities are offered by the school in three sessions Monday through Thursday from 3:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m for the Early Childhood Division (K-2) and Intermediate Division (3-8); these are: Session # Session I Session II Session III

Additional information: • School provided extracurricular activities and Swimming for Gr. K-8 meet once a week, and paid extracurricular activities, Soccer Gr. 1-4 and Choir Gr. 6-8, will meet twice a week. • Kindergarten Extracurricular Activities will be available starting with Session II to give the children time to adjust with their new full day schedule. A reminder regarding the ending of each session and the new dates of registration will be sent home via email two weeks before the activity session ends or you can find this information posted on the school website. You will receive the SESSION I ON-LINE REGISTRATION FORM and THE LATE BUS AUTHORIZATION FORM on Friday, September 5 after 3:00 p.m.

Extracurricular Activities for High School A variety of Sports and Tournaments are offered for students in grades 9-12. Registration is done through the Athletic Director, Ms. Debra Darson on the first week of school. For detailed information regarding the High School Sports Program, please contact Ms. Darson via email at ddarson@cotopaxi.k12.ec or at 246-411 ext. 3007.

Fees Academia Cotopaxi offers the Extracurricular Activities & Sports Program as a part of your regular membership fees except for two new activities: Soccer Gr. 1-4 and Choir Gr. 6-8. Special dance clothes, soccer uniform, Karate uniform, shoes for dance activities, and extra materials for specialty activities such as Chinese, French, airplane modeling, cooking, artistic creativity and comics are not covered. There will be a material fee for these classes. You will find indication of the fees as these apply listed in the registration brochure. Fee payment for soccer, choir and for materials have to be sent with your child in a closed envelope that says “Activities & Sports or Material Fee Payment "through your child’s teacher. A bill will be sent home with your child for the payment made. These payments must be received at the Activity Office during the two days of registration and have to made payable to Academia Cotopaxi unless it says otherwise.

Procedures 1. Students are allowed to register only for a maximum of 2 activities. These are one sport and one extracurricular activity offered once a week, or register for 2 regular activities during the session. 2. Students up to and including Grade 5 should bring an extra snack to eat before the afternoon activities. 3. Middle School (Grades 6-8) students may bring a snack or buy one at the cafeteria snack bar using their school ID cards. The snack bar will be open from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 pm. only for grade 6-8 and high school students. 4. Space is limited in some activities with 10-12 for students, unless otherwise specified in the Extracurricular Registration Form. We apply the policy of first-come first-serve. Therefore if your child is not able to get into the activity, please choose your second preference as explained in the form. Parents will be notified if the 1st preference is not available. 5. A minimum of 5 students are needed to open an activity. If the activity will not open for low enrollment, parents will be notified via email and offer other options. 6. Student may lose the privilege to attend Extracurricular Activities because of behavior problems. 7. After registration, there will be no reimbursements for paid activities of Soccer and Choir. 8. When an Extracurricular Activity is cancelled during the school day, parents are notified via email. A call is also made to reconfirm that the message has been received. Students will go home at 3:00 p.m. on this day. 9. After the second week of Extracurricular Activities, changes in activities will be not accepted. 10. Students who sign up for Extracurricular Activities such as: French, Chinese, Choir and Piano class must remember that they are year long activities. If they are unable to attend the activitiy, the student must bring a written note from parents. 11. Registration for Extracurricular Activities and Sports (Soccer Gr.1-4 and Swimming Gr. 1-8) will be done ONLY via ON-LINE on registration dates.


Car People and Late Bus Transportation Service Car People Pick Up 1. The High School door gate is open from 4:05 p.m. to 4:25 p.m for pick up. After this time, students need to be picked up at the school main entrance. We remind parents to be punctual in picking up their child. 2. If your child will be leaving with a friend or will not stay for the Extracurricular Activity, you must send an email authorization to the Activities Coordinator, Early Childhood Gr. 2 Division/Intermediate Gr. 3-8 Division Offices and to the Bus Coordinator by 11:00 a.m. 3. Students, who are not picked up on time will not be able to continue with Extracurricular Activities & Sports. Late Bus Transportation Service 1. Bus service is available for students who participate in authorized extracurricular activities and sports. The fee is included in the regular transportation fee. A special fee applies for those students who wish to take the Late Bus and are not registered for the regular transportation service. 2. The Late Bus offers door to door service with bus monitor supervision and leaves the school grounds at 4:20 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, students will go home at 3:00 p.m. as there are no extra after school activities. 3. If your child will be leaving with a friend or will not stay for the Extracurricular Activity, you must send a written authorization via email to the Activities Coordinator, Early Childhood Gr. 2 Division/Intermediate Gr. 3-8 Division Offices and to the Bus Coordinator by 11:00 a.m. 4. A second Late Bus is available only for High School Students and leaves school grounds every day at 6:00 p.m. 5. Students in 1st and 2nd grade may only use the Late Bus service if parents complete the LATE BUS AUTHORIZATION ON-LINE FORM. It is also IMPORTANT that someone receive your child at the bus stop. If no one is at home, the child will return to school. 6. A bus monitor is assigned to all Late Buses for supervision. 7. Description This activity is for students with no previous piano experience. Student must have a keyboard at home for the purpose of practicing. Since this is a yearlong activity, students will receive a notice of repeated registration at the beginning of each session for extracurricular activities. Space Limit: 15 students Students will be divided into groups based on ability. The focus will be on water safety and stroke development. Space Limit: 20 students

Students will reinforce of computer skills taught in regular class, learning of new skills and participation in fun computer games. Space limit: 15 students “A mixed media painting is one which combines different painting and drawing materials and methods, rather than only one medium. Any materials can be used, including collage items such as pages from magazines, newspaper, photographs, fabric, soil, or packaging. Or a mixed media piece can be as 'simple' as using two mediums, such as acrylic paints with pastel on top.” By Marion Boddy-Evans Space Limit: 12 students Material Fee $ 25.00 Offered twice a week: Monday & Wednesday Little Kickers is an international franchise with more than 210 locations around the world and one is locate in Quito. Little Kickers will work at Academia Cotopaxi and bring professional coaches that will teach our students. They will focus in teaching a great soccer program in a “pressure free environment”. Students will work with confidence, respect, coordination, control, companionship and team work. For detailed information please check Little Kickers web page: www.littlekickersla.com This is a paid activity: Fee is $ 75.00 + $15.00 for the uniform. Total payment is of $90.00 to be made payable to Academia Cotopaxi at the Cashier´s office during the 2 registration days. We will take the soccer uniform measurements on the two days of registration September 8 and 9 at the Intermediate Division Office with the secretary. The uniforms will be ready in approximately 3 weeks and the Soccer coach will be responsible to give students their uniforms. Space limit: 20 students Fee $ 75.00 per session Students will explore different art techniques using a variety of materials to create their projects. Recycling materials will be used to create amazing pieces of art. Space Limit: 12 students Material Fee: $15.00 The Karate Band Club is an opportunity for students to polish up their music-making skills, working at their own pace through a series of progressively challenging music. PRE-REQUISITE: Must be a member of a band class or special permission from Mr. Heidi The students will get the opportunity to hear many bands and artists in all genres and learn about them; they will also learn the biographies of the bands and up to minute news on them. At the end of the session the children will be recording a radio show and talk about their favorite bands and giving info on the artists. Material Fee: $ 10.00 Requirement: 4 years minimum of dancing. Since this is a yearlong activity, students will receive a notice of repeated registration at the beginning of each session for the Flamenco extracurricular activity. A special choreography will be performed for “Fiestas de Quito” celebration on December 3. Dress Fee: $ 97.00 that includes the long Flamenco dress and the flower for the hair. SIYAN ACADEMY OF CHINESE LANGUAGE will offer an intermediate activity class for students who have received Chinese Beginner during last school year or have already some knowledge of the language. At the end of the school year students will be able to read paragraphs, present themselves, and do calligraphy. For information regarding the Chinese Academy please check the web page link: www.siyuan.com.ec Material fee: $5.00 This activity is a dance fitness program that involves dance and aerobic elements. The exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms, as well as resistance training. It´s a great way to be in shape and in good health. The instructor has certification for this activity. Space Limit: 15 students Day of Practice: Tuesday & Wednesday Requirement: Students who want to be part of the choir must attend an AUDITION with the Choir Teacher and the Music Department Director. The audition will evaluate two basic things musical aptitude and attitude. This will be accomplished by hearing a fragment of the song and a short interview. AUDITION DAYS: September 8-9 from 3 to 4:00 pm in the Auditorium. This is a new paid music activity offered to Academia Cotopaxi by a professional Music Academy called Arte en 3. They will work together with Academia Cotopaxi Music Department to offer a great choir program. We will offer Choir during Session I & II and students will learn the following: Basic Vocal technique: Posture/alignment, respiration phonation, resonance, diction and expression. Basic Choral Technique: Choral tone, blend, balance, diction, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, interpretation, and stage presence. Students will perform at the Holiday Concert and at the International Festival. Fee $ 125.00 per session Girls will discover the fun, friendship, and power of been together through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girls Scouting helps to develop full individual potential; how to relate with others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others. The Alliance Française, specializing in teaching French to an audience of children and young adolescents will give service of teaching to students in a fun and creative time and privilege and a first contact with civilization and French. Food, fashion, customs, traditions are some of the many areas that the teacher will use with a variety of materials, adequate and selected according to the centers of interest of the students. It will also be the opportunity to discover, through active and interactive methodology, the first keys of communication. . The Alliance Française, specializing in teaching French to an audience of children and young adolescents will give service of teaching to students in a fun and creative time and privilege and a first contact with civilization and French. Food, fashion, customs, traditions are some of the many areas that the teacher will use with a variety of materials, adequate and selected according to the centers of interest of the students. It will also be the opportunity to discover, through active and interactive methodology, the first keys of communication. The French activity will be a yearlong activity. Description The students will experiment with a variety of techniques including weaving, braiding and knotting to make useful items such as coasters and friendship bracelets. This activity will help students with their concentration and motor skills. Space Limit: 12 students Material Fee $5.00 Offered twice a week: Tuesday & Thursday Little Kickers is an international franchise with more than 210 locations around the world and one is locate in Quito. Little Kickers will work at Academia Cotopaxi and bring professional coaches that will work with our students. They will focus in teaching a great soccer program in a “pressure free environment”. Students will work with confidence, respect, coordination, control, companionship and team work. Total payment is of $90.00 to be made payable to Academia Cotopaxi at the Cashier´s office during the 2 registration days. We will take the soccer uniform measurements on the two days of registration: September 8 & 9 at the Early Childhood Division Office with the secretary. The uniforms will be ready in approximately 3 weeks and the Soccer coach will be responsible to give students their uniforms. Space Limit: 20 students Fee $ 75.00 per session The student will have the opportunity to make many types of planes first with paper then with tag board and finally with Balsa wood. It is a step by step instruction on how to make airplanes. Space Limit: 15 students Material Fee: $ 15.00 This is a yearlong activity and students who register for Flamenco need to continue during the 3 Session in order to see progress. A special choreography will be performed for “Fiestas de Quito” celebration on December 4 and for the International Festival in April. Clothes fee: $88.00 include: Flamenco dress and the flower. Make check payable to: BALLET & FLAMENCO. Shoes fee: $ 60.00 - make check payable to BALLET & FLAMENCO. Girls will need to wear white nylon stocking. Space Limit: 15 students Students will learn different kinds of tropical dances such as: Salsa, Merengue and Bachata with the latest songs. Join this dance activity and you will have lots of fun.

Only students with one year of experience can sign up for this piano activity.

Student must have a keyboard at home for the purpose of practicing. Since this is a yearlong activity, students will receive a notice of repeated registration at the beginning of each session for extracurricular activities. Space Limit: 15 students

In TED-Ed Club we will view and discuss a variety of TED talks and you will have the opportunity to prepare a short talk to present to your club members. Students ages 9 – 12 are welcome.
