THE ADAPTATION PROCESS PYP VIP ASSEMBLY AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

E-FLYER 1 September 2013

From the Director Madeleine Maceda Heide

Dear Academia Cotopaxi Parents, I am delighted to welcome you to a new school year! As the new Director of this school, I am honored to be a part of this community. I am deeply committed to maintaining this school on its excellent course and leading the next phase of its journey. I look forward to meeting our community at upcoming school events and encourage you to introduce yourself to me if you see me around campus You may already be aware of the challenges we have faced regarding the school calendar. This year, we were required to submit our calendar to the Ministry of Education for approval. We have not yet received approval from the Ministry, thus I am unable to provide you with a complete school calendar yet. We are optimistic that our proposed calendar will be approved and we expect to obtain approval very soon. This is of the highest priority for me and I promise you that once I receive approval, I will communicate it to you immediately. I very much appreciate your patience and trust in this process. In order to assist you with your planning, I have attached a list of dates for the next three months. Once we have an approved school calendar, we will publish our usual print calendar. Until then, I hope this list will suffice. Have a great first week of school! Sincerely, Madeleine Maceda Heide

PYP Assembly 2012-2013

The IBO Primary Years Program, for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. A significant part of the units of study is the integration of the learner profile Academia Cotopaxi will host six assemblies this school year for PreK through grade 5 students. These assemblies are to highlight attributes being studied in the classroom, but more importantly to celebrate students who are exhibiting these behaviors. Children selected to be a PYP will bring a letter home inviting their parents and relatives to come to the assembly to see them on stage receiving this honor. Our first assembly is this Thursday, October 16th featuring Grade 4 as thinkers. Thursday, January 31st Friday, March 15th

The Adaptation to Pre-School Process A Time to Enjoy

Change is something inherently constant in humanity. It is natural, normal and necessary in life. If we don’t experience change, we become stuck and we lose the option to grow and move forward. Evolution is permanent in human beings, beginning in the womb. To a young child, entering pre-school for the first time has a profound impact on their being since it provokes what is known as ‘separation anxiety’. Nevertheless, this anguish is a necessary stress in life which enables us to grow and adapt in order to become flexible when faced with complex situations. Bringing a child to pre-school gives them a beautiful also learn to care about others, and where he/she can learn to share and control themselves and their frustration levels, etc. At IMAGINE, the adaptation process beings with the ‘home visit’. Through this step, both parents and students meet with the teacher in the child’s home. The home visit allows the family to give permission to the teacher to take care of their child. Also, the first day of class is an ‘open house’ where parents and children familiarize themselves with the class and its environment in general. WRITTEN BY LOWER SHOOL
