In a candid conversation with VBD Magazine, Roscoe touched on a variety of subjects, but focused mainly on his work with at-risk youths, leadership workshops, and ministry. We are excited to share our interview with Roscoe whose enduring faith is saturated with hope.

EMBRACING PURPOSE

Roscoe Robinson hails from Huntsville, Missouri. He was always passionate about sports and was elated when he got the opportunity to carry out his passion at Westran High School. “I was an All-State athlete in both basketball and track in high school, and I was a two-time state champion in long jump,” says Roscoe.

After high school, Roscoe decided to continue his athletic journey when he attended the University of Texas, San Antonio, where he was an All-American athlete in track. During his junior and senior years, he participated in AmeriCorps. Also, he worked at summer camps in the inner city with at-risk youths.

“While working at one of the summer camps, I sensed that the young men needed more so I started a young men’s mentoring program called Young Kings with about 40 young boys, ages 11 to 18. Our main areas of focus were faith, character building, leadership, and community service. I was also able to get sponsors from local businesses to start a summer program for the boys. We participated in community service projects, grew in our faith, held cooking classes, and learned media skills and computer coding. By the end of summer, each participant in the program graduated with a certificate.”
