In 1970, Omega received the coveted “Silver Snoopy Award”, a prize given by NASA to employees and collaborators in space missions, thereby recognising the brand’s unique contributions to space exploration and the Speedmaster’s vital support during the rescue of Apollo 13. A special watch was created 50 years later to honour that occasion. Combining the art of the cartoon with the art of watchmaking, this incredible tribute to Snoopy has taken the Omega Speedmaster to new realms of design.

Here he is shown wearing his famous space suit, in the same style as the silver pin given by NASA to award recipients. The dial is also silver and laser-engraved with Ag925. It contains two additional blue sub-dials as well as blue PVD hands and angled hour markers. The case back is where the fun truly begins. Snoopy has gone into orbit thanks to his animated black and white Command and Service Module (CSM) supported by a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is being used, Snoopy takes a trip around the mysterious dark side of the moon, just like the Apollo 13 crew. Meanwhile, the sapphire crystal on the lunar surface has been decorated using a unique micro-structured metallisation technique. There is also a depiction of Earth in the distance. Appearing on a disc, it rotates once a minute, in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand, and symbolises the rotation of the Earth. The quote “Eyes on the Stars” is written on the black universe. The watch’s blue nylon fabric strap pairs perfectly with the other blue elements on the timepiece and even features an embossed trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission. The strap is set on a 42 mm stainless steel case inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster (the first watch worn on the Moon in 1969). The tachymeter scale with its iconic “Dot over Ninety” is created in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring.
