Designed with a kit of parts, this project focused on the spatial moments inside two parallel walls. The building consists of two separate apartment units for a social scienist and environmental scientist with a shared outdoor porch and garden.

My project focused on the movement from solid to void and the interaction of light in different spaces. I created a rhythm through the asymmetric solid planes contrasted with the open window void. The sunscreens add a sense of horizontality and juxtapose the vertical lines created by the solid planes. The sunscreens also serve to create interesting light dymanics in the open spaces.

Point-Line-Plane Foundation Studio

This project emphasized the significance of process and iteration through its many steps. The entire process illuminated the importance of the abstraction as a tool to create interesting forms.

In the first step, a series of photos were collected that demonstrated on points, lines, and planes. I focused on the intersection of the three concepts to in each individual photo which were then arranged to create a cross symmetry in a nine-square grid.

In my second iteration, I abstracted the forms of the pictures through rotation and juxtaposition of the basic forms. By adding the strong solid line, the basic forms are emphasized and a sense of depth is created.

The strong solid lines also create a void and, therefore, light and shadows in the otherwise two-dimensional compositions.

In iteration three, I created a threedimensional form based on my abstracted drawings. This form focuses on the overlap and intersections of datums, such as the pointed arch and parallel lines that were prevalent in my past two iterations.

Finally, in iteration four, I abstracted the threedimensional model from iteration three. This iteration recognizes the play of light and shadow created by the repeating datums. By focusing on these moments of extreme light and shadow, a sense of drama and playfulness is created in the compositions.

Created only taking materials from the site, this project focused on the spatial interaction of the center void and the occupiable spaces.

My project emphasized the importance of the site and its influence on both the form and the function of the structures. The builtup earth around the structures as well as the excavated void in the center of the site creates a pattern that is mirrored by the structures, adding to a sense of unity.

This project dealt with the conflict between space and function through the creation of a microhousing tower. To begin, I abstracted a previous project, Occupiable Walls, by turning my structure 90 degrees and focusing on motifs, such as solid/void and push/pull.

Drawing inspiration from Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano’s Centre Pompidou and my previous project, I emphasized a grid pattern through the use of columns as a form and a structural piece to visually hold together my composition. The columns bring attention to the push and pull elements which help create the solid and void relationship.
