The EAST GRID Masterplan
The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation conducted an invitation-only design competition for a mixeduse development on a 5.19 hectare property in Diliman, Quezon City. This was the winning proposal submitted by WTA Architecture and Design Studio.
At the front of the site are two heritage buildings designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin. The proposal centers on creating a dialogue that continues between these older structures and the proposed new ones. The gridlines of the Locsin buildings are used as a starting point. To design the landscape, these are extruded outwards into the spaces creating dynamic circulation paths at the ground plane. Retail components in the Locsin buildings and the new buildings intersect at a central park and promenade. The gradual transition of activites from active to passive can be experienced as one moves throughout the open spaces and continues as it projects upwards through the elevated planes of office spaces. This creates a multilevel experience through layers of activities including wellness, culture and business office development. Copious amounts of plants and greenery are integrated throughout these levels.

The towers provide ideal floor plates and orientation for a diversity of commercial office activities, maximizing view points and natural daylighting. These towers are connected by vertical decks whose long and rectangular forms also reflect the Locsin buildings. The decks then act as connective podium spaces and cultural touchpoints for the users’ daily activities, working as a bonding agent to build a strong community throughout the development.
