CHEONGJU Civic Park: Korea

This proposal was conceived as an entry to the Cheongju City Hall International Design Competiton.

The new Cheongju City Hall celebrates the unification of Cheongju City and Cheongwon Country under a single administrative umbrella. The reconfigured requirements of the city’s new organizational structure calls for more integration and cohesiveness and presents the opportunity to revitalize the original downtown. Cheongju Civic Park applies the spatial structure and road system of Downtown Cheongju to inform the organization and planning of the project’s programmatic necessities.

The Cheongju Capitol Hill emphasizes the relationship between people and politics by imagining the new city hall as a comprehensive collection of civic and public spaces. (render by others)

Weaving public spaces — By providing plenty of spaces for gathering and interaction., the site becomes the city’s natural meeting point .

The Cheongju Civic Park is a democratic and dynamic building that is open to everybody. (render by others)

Drawn from the road composition of the old Cheongju settlements, the streets and levels transform into agents of informal human exchanges and relationships.

Civic Square — a gathering point for the government and citizens to create a sense of community.

Civic Line — green spaces connect directly to government offices to promote openness to its people

Stairs — A multilevel plaza that connects the civic line and square.

Streets — Used as access points to inspire civic definition and social interaction.

Pavilions — Working as activators at the ground level to attract visitors
