Idea for pride and prejudice.

The idea I’ve decided to concentrate on when shooting for my pride and prejudice project is novice skateboarders when they first start out. • I believe pride to mean enjoying a certain hobby and pushing yourself to be the best that you can be. And taking pride in thay hobby also means trying as hard as you can and never settling for second best . • The aspects of pride in skateboarding I will be focusing on during this project are....clothing, skateboard design and the actual tricks themselves. • Because of this I will concentrate on shooting novice skateboarders who have just started skating. More specifically the pride they take in learning new tricks and the commitment they show towards it.

The reason I took a liking to this specific photographer as it seems like the skater is both the focus of the shot but at the same time isn’t. This is due to the fact that there are multiple things to look at in the shot and the skateboarder isn't always the forst tging you lool at in these pictures. I plan to adopt a similar shooting method by using long shots at different angles to show the surroundings of where the subject is skating. This will hopefully add a certain feel to the image and will also allow the viewer to see exactly what and where it is that he's skating. I also like the fact some of his photographs are very crisp and sharp, while others have blurred backgrounds and sharp subjects. This is something I wish to experiment with when shooting my project. Playing with the shutter speed will allow me to produce a similar effect.

J.Grant Brittain • The previous two photographers have concentrated mainly on sharp images. This photographer concentrates on the fast pace aspect of photography by using slower shutter speeds to add some blur to some of his images. He also experiments with silhouettes which is something I would love to attempt during this project.

Where and how I plan to shoot this project.
I plan to shoot this project in several skateparks in the london area. (Seven Kings, romford, mile end and Clapham Junction) I plan to shoot this project with my canon AE1 Hopefully I'll shoot one and a half rolls in each location. Getting a variety of shots from different anglea and distances from the subject. I also plan to shoot on Ilford hp5 delta 400 which is the black and white film I like the most. I'll be using two models. Who will be wearing different items of clothing. This will help show individuality and uniqueness. I will ask them to bring several items of clothing so I can also shoot the fashion aspect of skateboarding.
