Ingles FC is a Leicestershire-based football club founded in 1972. Competing in the Midland Football League, they are dedicated to developing local talent and promoting grassroots football.
Known for their focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, Ingles FC also runs youth development programs to support aspiring players. Beyond football, the club actively engages with local initiatives, strengthening its community ties.
With a proud history and commitment to growth, Ingles FC continues to make a positive impact both on and off the pitch.
Ingles FC was looking for a solution to improve visibility for both players and spectators, reduce energy consumption, and minimise light pollution.
The existing fixed high masts located at the pitchside required protective padding to be applied before each match in order to prevent injury to players during collisions.
Additionally, the placement of these masts obstructed the view of the game. Since the masts were fixed, heavy lifting equipment was necessary to access the pitch for maintenance or repairs. This process was timeconsuming, and the equipment often caused damage to the pitch surface.
Ingles FC selected Abacus Lighting to deliver a high-performance illumination project for their ground. Abacus installed 12 Challenger 1 floodlights (CH1), equipped with overspill cowls to reduce light pollution and minimise the impact on surrounding areas. To enhance spectator views and improve safety, six 15-meter masts were placed around the perimeter of the pitch, positioned behind the fencing and replacing the previous masts that were located at the pitch side. Abacus Lighting managed the entire process, including design, supply, and installation, ensuring a seamless and professional service. The project was completed within a 3-4 week timeframe, meeting all agreed deadlines.

The Challenger 1 floodlights provided Ingles FC with reliable, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance lighting, enhancing the experience for both players and spectators on match days.
By replacing the existing fixed masts with Abacus’s (HL250) base hinge masts, the need for heavy machinery to access the pitch for maintenance and repairs was eliminated, saving the club the cost of hiring expensive equipment and the risk of damage to the pitch.
The new base hinge masts were installed behind the perimeter fence of the pitch, which saved the club time as protective covers are no longer required around the base of the masts on match days. This improvement has also enhanced the viewing experience by providing spectators with unobstructed views of the pitch during matches.
This successful project highlights Abacus Lighting’s expertise in delivering tailored solutions for sports facilities, ensuring optimal lighting performance for players, fans, and the wider community.

Abacus Lighting’s Challenger MAKO - Unmatched weight-to-light output LED lighting solution designed specifically for cricket
Abacus Lighting’s brief was for the stadium lighting to meet current broadcasting standards, lower power consumption, and increase energy efficiency. The lighting upgrades at Lord’s, Arnos Vale, and the new installation at Kensington Oval cricket ground all aim to significantly contribute to the venues’ stated goal of becoming carbon neutral.
Abacus Lighting’s Challenger MAKO LED stadium luminaries were specifically chosen because they offer low power consumption, can be retrofitted to existing masts, reduce maintenance costs by lasting approximately three times longer than Metal Halide lamps, and hit the competition for six in terms of weight-to-light output ratio.
Challenger MAKO LED stadium floodlights have the additional option of RGB colour-changeable lighting modules, which can create impressive light shows to entertain the crowd on match days. The Challenger MAKO enables live lighting adjustment throughout the match, and light shows can be pre-programmed before a match using user-friendly software controlled from standard devices.
The Challenger MAKO offers fast, efficient installation and low maintenance. Each unit has two LED modules, a fixing bracket, a module clamp, and a driver. This ensures minimal downtime during servicing and eliminates needing specialist cranes or heavy lifting gear. Most maintenance and repairs can be done using a man-rider winch on fixed masts. Alternatively, as at Lord’s, telescopic masts can be specified at the design stage to lower the lights, eliminating the need to hire expensive maintenance/repair access equipment.
Another advantage is the Abacus Challenger MAKO’s superior weight-to-light output. Components are constructed from automotive-grade aluminium, ensuring they are not excessively heavy. This allows quick, efficient replacement or maintenance without compromising on light output.
Abacus’s experienced, in-house lighting design engineers ensured that they not only met but exceeded the required broadcasting standards to light the wicket, creating optimum light levels for broadcasting and playing cricket during the day and night. Abacus Lighting’s design engineers worked with M3 Innovations to precisely calculate each project to meet the design brief and ensure optimum performance throughout the match.
The Challenger MAKO is the only digital sports lighting solution designed specifically for cricket grounds. Its patented optical lens meets both the new ICC T-24 standards and the more stringent ICC T20 World Cup standards, requiring illumination of greater than 3000 lux (300 lumen’s per square yard (0.9m) across the 22-yard-long (20m) by 10-foot-wide (3m) wicket.
The selection of the Challenger MAKO Sports Lighting System was driven by its ability to leverage existing Abacus Lighting masts while doubling the required light output. Its modular design and reduced weight enable seamless integration into existing infrastructure without exceeding weight limits or inflating project costs, eliminating the need for numerous fixtures, complex mounting configurations, and excessive wiring.

EOS LED Lantern - Product Overview
• Car Parks
• Retail Parks
• Access Roads
The EOS lantern offers an LED lighting solution suitable for both rail and road applications. It has a wide range of wattages, unit sizes, optics, and fitting options to choose from.
With a wide range of lumen outputs and three lantern body sizes, the EOS provides a lighting solution for virtually any road or rail scheme. The EOS is IP66 ingress protected with a durable outer coating tested for use in harsh environments commonly found in the rail and highways industry.
The optics are protected by a tempered glass covered, sealed unit, and are separate from the electrics to prolong the product life-cycle.
The 01 optic is for street lighting and is particularly suitable for situations where the installation height and the width of the carriageway ratio is less than 1
The 04 optic is typically used to provide light for yards, car parks, and urban areas. It is also used on the street when a significant amount of light is needed and the ratio between the depth of the area to be illuminated and the installation height of the light is considerably higher than 1. However, very high levels of lighting are not necessary
The 02 optic is suitable for street lighting situations where the installation height and the width of the carriageway ratio is less than 1. It is also appropriate for roads with very high inter-distances and an inter-distance/installation height ratio greater than 5
The 05 optic is for street lighting that can illuminate areas with varying distances and road widths equal to or less than the installation height
The
is
height-to-width ratio is over 0.85. It has a back-flow feature that helps with installations involving outreaches
The 06 optic street lighting system is suitable for illuminating large areas with a ratio of installation height to track width equal to or greater than 1
EOS LED Lantern - Photometry Polar Diagrams
Polar curves are created using the candela values from the candela array. Plotting these values on a polar diagram illustrates the performance of the luminaire in two dimensions. The polar diagram is divided into four rings, with each ring representing a 25% increase in magnitude.
Blue Line - Vertical plane through horizontal angles (Through maximum Candela)
Red Line - Horizontal cone through vertical angle (Through maximum Candela)
