Innovation for All Pilots

LIFT Aviation has always been committed to innovation in aviation, especially in areas where new technologies may not yet be fully utilized. When using LIFT Aviation, pilots can confidently choose from our meticulously designed products, utilizing technology that is now featured in our USAF contracted Fixed wing Helmet. With top notch customer service and product delivery, our team works to ensure a safe flight every time you take to the sky.

Since our inception in 2017, LIFT Aviation has strived to provide an exceptional experience with all our products alike. Our designs are deeply rooted in various facets of the aviation industries, including agriculture, aerobatics, warbirds, backcountry flying, and more. With this in mind, we consider the needs of every pilot when making design choices. One of the most exciting advancements we've made for GA pilots is making the latest USAF helmet technology accessible to all.

The AV2.1 builds on the features you've come to expect from the AV-1 KOR Aviation helmet, offering extreme comfort and new, exciting features. With its space-age Koroyd Core technology and vented airflow system, the AV2.1 maintains the exceptional qualities that have established LIFT Aviation as the premier helmet choice for pilots. A key feature of our helmets is their lightweight design, and we've further pushed the envelope with the AV2.1. Featuring a thick weave carbon fiber shell, EPS/Koroyd protection, and an Airflow Comfort Liner, the AV2.1, with communications systems installed, weighs in at a staggering 2.5 pounds—a significant reduction from the carbon fiber AV1.1, which weighs around 3 pounds.

When customizing a LIFT AV flight helmet, you can select top-of-theline communication systems installed only by our team at LIFT AV. We offer the Lightspeed Zulu H-Mod (as a Lightspeed Certified Helmet installer) as well as the reliable Bose A20 system, available either brand new or installed as a customer-provided headset. For further customization on our Next Gen AV 2.1, you can add our Magnetic Dual Visor System allowing for the simultaneous use of two visors— a clear visor on the bottom and various tinted options on top, magnetically attached. You can easily swap between tints and styles or remove them entirely for darker afternoon flights. This feature, among many others, helped us secure the USAF Fixed Wing Contract over the legacy option previously supplied. Visit our Booth to experience all the features that make this helmet the pinnacle of aviation innovation.

At LIFT Aviation, all our products are created with innovation in mind. The AV2.1 is a groundbreaking achievement for our sister company, LIFT Airborne Technologies, which was tasked with securing the USAF contract. Expect to see the AV2.1 on the world's best pilots in the U.S. Air Force soon. Take part in these technological innovations and fly with the pinnacle of aviation helmet protection—the AV2.1 is now available for all pilots.

NAAA’s General Session on Tuesday, Nov. 19, will feature a mock trial presented by Anderson & Riddle, LLP law firm, who has

LETTER FROM THE NAAA

represented aerial applicators in all types of matters for over 31 years. Founding partner Geff Anderson handled his first drift claim in 1993. Partner Shannon Dugan has represented aerial applicators for her entire career. The mock trial will present a direct and cross-examination of a pilot and an expert witness in an aerial drift case. The second segment of the General Session will focus on the H2A Program. Noah Parr is the Director of the Farm Labor Contractor Department for USA Farm Labor and will present how the H2A program assists agricultural aviation employers nationwide in properly staffing their businesses. He will discuss what it takes to qualify for the program and its various benefits and pitfalls.

This year’s career-development programs are frontloaded to give new and low-time ag pilots increased opportunities to interact with experienced operators and pilots after the sessions. The Com paass Rose Session is being offered Sunday, Nov. 17; NAAREF’s “Ask the Expert” Speed Mentoring Session will take place Monday, Nov. 18; and we recommend all lowtime ag pilots attend the Flying in the Wire and Obstruction Environment Course on Saturday, Nov. 16. Com paass Rose is an information-sharing session geared toward low-time and prospective ag pilots. It is led by the PAASS presenters, our roving, professional ag aviation safety instructors. Speed Mentoring is a fast-paced orientation session for new and prospective ag pilots where experienced industry experts meet with small groups of attendees in short mentoring rounds to answer questions in a more personal setting. The experts may represent operators, pilots, and ag insurance representatives.

The Athena presenters and PAASS presenters are coming together for the NAAREF Relationship Drift Session on Wednesday, Nov. 20, which will look at how personal relationships affect pilot decisionmaking and safety. Men and women should attend this session together, including couples and office crew. Relationship Drift is similar in format to the popular Compaass Rose program, but instead of facilitating better relations between inexperienced pilots and more experienced operators, the new session is designed to foster ties between operators/pilots and their spouses or significant others and office crew.

For specific solutions for your business, look no further than the NAAA Trade Show Nov. 19-20. The world’s largest

agricultural aviation trade typically features over 150+ exhibitors, showcasing crop protection products, parts and supplies, aircraft and engine manufacturers, maintenance, insurance services, GPS units and more.

Don’t miss the fun of the Live Auction, which also happens to be our biggest fundraiser. Bid on a new PT6A-34AG engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, a custom four-person golf cart donated by Air Tractor and many other great items donated by industry supporters. Visit www.agaviation.org/convention for a list of all the auction items. The action gets underway Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. on the trade show floor.

Throughout the week, there will be no shortage of opportunities to network and make new acquaintances. From Monday’s Welcome Reception to the trade show floor to the Live Auction reception and concluding at Wednesday’s Farewell Reception, you’ll be able to attend a different reception nearly every night. Finally, we encourage you to make plans to attend the Excellence in Ag Aviation Banquet on Nov. 20, where we will honor distinguished awardees for their impressive contributions to the industry.

That’s just a small taste of what you will find at the 2024 Ag Aviation Expo. There is much more information within these pages and on NAAA’s website at www.agaviation. org/convention. Please join us for what promises to be an unforgettable week!

The Power of Satloc Falcon, H8 Lightbar, and IntelliFlow 3

In the demanding field of aerial application, precision, safety, and adaptability are key to success. Satloc’s latest innovations—the Falcon GPS system, the upcoming H8 Lightbar, and the IntelliFlow 3 (IF3)—are designed to meet these challenges head-on. By integrating advanced technology and user-friendly features, these products offer unparalleled enhancements in accuracy, efficiency, and safety, ensuring that aerial applicators can operate at their best.

Satloc Falcon: Leading the Way in Precision

The Satloc Falcon GPS software version 1.11 is at the heart of modern aerial application, providing pilots with the tools they need to achieve optimal results. One of the new standout features of the Falcon is its Reuse Swathing function, which allows operators to pull up previous jobs and reuse the same A|B lines, patterns, and polygons. Also, a pilot can switch to a new pattern mid-field. These options not only save time but also helps ensure consistency across multiple applications, a critical factor in achieving uniform results in large-scale operations.

Falcon's improved tracking calculations at extreme latitudes address a common issue faced by operators working in regions like Canada, where converging longitude lines can cause slight skewing of swath lines. The enhanced software now provides more accurate guidance, a precision boost that is particularly beneficial for forestry contracts and other applications where precision is paramount.

Another major enhancement in the Falcon system is its customizable logging thresholds and rates. Pilots can now set different intervals for logging data during spray operations and non-spraying flights, a flexible feature that allows for more tailored data capture. This ensures that the data collected is relevant and precise, making it easier to analyze and optimize application processes.

The previous Satloc Falcon version 1.10 introduced several key updates that enhanced the system's capabilities. With an improved calculator featuring standard functions and common conversions, faster job loading times, a new search function for job loading, and the ability to bulk delete jobs, the Falcon offers users a more streamlined and efficient experience. The improved export speed to log files and the added option to select colors for A|B lines and swath lines provide additional flexibility and customization.

Moreover, the integration with Transland's electric gate has been refined, improving performance and user information, especially in scenarios that require transmitting current load information to prevent motor overworking. The addition of a Clear Paint hotkey, better display of long swath lines considering earth curvature, and the ability to set application target height independently for different application types further enhance the Falcon's usability.

H8 Lightbar: Great for Inside the Cockpit

The upcoming H8 Lightbar is designed to work seamlessly with the Satloc Falcon and G4 GPS systems. This compact lightbar offers a range of features that significantly enhance precision and safety.

One of the most notable features of the H8 Lightbar is its size, which is perfect for helicopters and fixed-wing pilots who prefer the lightbar to be in the cockpit. Another attribute is the AgLaser display, which uses LED lights to indicate height above the canopy. This innovative feature allows pilots to easily maintain the correct elevation, using only their peripheral vision.

Additionally, the H8 Lightbar improves safety by communicating with the Satloc Falcon CPU’s ADS-B In, providing visual alerts of nearby aircraft. This feature raises the safety bar for agricultural pilots, offering an added layer of protection and peace of mind.

With three different mounting options—ram mount, flange mount, and upside-down mount—the H8 Lightbar is versatile and adaptable to various aircraft configurations. It also includes a green LED lightbar for night flying, customizable displays, and obstacle 360° visual warnings, ensuring that pilots have all the information they need at their fingertips.

IntelliFlow 3: Precision Dispersal for Modern Farming

The IntelliFlow 3 (IF3) represents the top dispersal technology, offering both dry and wet application capabilities in one system. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the Satloc Falcon, Falcon Pro, or G4 GPS systems, the IF3 allows operators to enter desired rates through the GPS interface, which the system regulates and maintains. This level of control helps ensure that applications are precise and consistent, whether operating in a constant applied rate mode or using variable rates based on prescription maps (PMAPs).

The IF3’s combination dry and wet dispersal capability makes it a versatile choice for operators who need to switch between application types. The system's ability to maintain selected rates with high accuracy is a key selling point, helping ensure that products are applied evenly and efficiently.

For those considering an upgrade, Satloc offers a range of upgrade kits to bring older systems up to the IntelliFlow 3 standard. These kits are designed to be simple, fast, and cost-effective, primarily replacing the cabling and the IntelliFlow Controller. Whether upgrading from a legacy system to the IF3 or from the IntelliFlow 2 (IF2) to the IF3, Satloc provides tailored solutions to meet the needs of any operation. Satloc also offers upgrade kits to switch between liquid and dry applications, ensuring that operators have the flexibility to meet the demands of different tasks.

Conclusion

Satloc's Falcon, H8 Lightbar, and IntelliFlow 3 systems set a high standard in aerial application technology. By combining precision, safety, and adaptability, these products empower operators to achieve better results with less effort. Whether you're upgrading existing systems or integrating new technology, Satloc offers the tools needed to excel in the field of modern aerial application.

“ Welcome to Air Tractor Country” At NAAA 2024 Ag Aviation Expo in Fort Worth

As Air Tractor marks its 50th anniversary it will also be celebrating its Lone Star State roots during the NAAA 2024 Ag Aviation Expo in Fort Worth, Texas. “We want to welcome everyone to Air Tractor country, says Jim Hirsch, president of Air Tractor. “All of us are looking forward to sharing some genuine Texas hospitality with our friends in November.”

This year, the Olney, Texas airplane manufacturer will not only display two airplanes at the Fort Worth Convention Center but will also provide a motorcoach excursion tour to Air Tractor headquarters and manufacturing facilities Thursday, November 20th.

On Track for a Record-Breaking Year

Hirsch reports that Air Tractor is on track for a strong year of aircraft production with a focus on building high quality products. "I anticipate that we will produce between 205 and 210 airplanes by the end of the year." Hirsch says world demand in the ag sector is quite strong. Brazil is extremely robust, with dealers reporting cash deposits for 2026 airplanes already on the books, while other countries are also reporting high demand.

Moreover, the fire sector is robust, with strong 802F sales in Europe, Canada, and Australia. "We are producing roughly 30 firefighting airplanes a year now, with a goal of 35 or more next year. We have responded to the firefighting market and have them slotted in our production schedule," Hirsch explained.

Air Tractor has also started production to fulfill its military contract, with nine AT-802U aircraft completed. "The 802U program has come online and is moving forward," Hirsch reports.

Navigating Supply Chain Challenges

After several years of supply-chain challenges, Air Tractor has developed ways to adapt to delays from suppliers. "We've onshored some foreign supply. During the past three years, lead times have been extended, and that's still happening occasionally, but we’ve finally begun to see a little stability in the markets.” Hirsch said.

Expansion and Capital Improvements

To accommodate this growth, Air Tractor is continuing its capital improvement projects to enhance production capacity and streamline operations. The R&D department moved into its new area in December and January, Hirsch reports. “Now that they have settled into their new surroundings, they're building additional tooling for flaps and ailerons, rudders, vertical fins and other subassemblies.”

The weld shop has been expanded, and an expansion to Plant 1 was completed in June, with fuselage frame weld fixtures moving into the additional space.

Up next is the expansion of Plant 2 and Plant 2A to increase the capacity of the sheet metal shop. Drainage and site work are underway now in preparation for the construction of Plant 5.

"Fortunately, with the robust strong market, we can afford reinvest in the business and prepare for greater things in the production world going forward. And it's really good to see demand for Air Tractor airplanes is staying strong," Hirsch says.

AgAviation School

The AgAviation School ag aviation program consists of 40 hours of flight time. The 40-hour flight course comprises 15 hours of flight training in a Cessna 170 and 25 hours in one of our six Pawnees. An experienced ag pilot does all flight training.

There are three requirements before entering this program: you must have your private pilot’s license, your tailwheel endorsement, and a high-performance endorsement. While in the Ag Aviation School, you can stay in the free student dorm room, have local access to grocery stores, free Internet, and a restaurant on site. Our aviation program stands out from others because we offer training on a 3,000-acre working farm and crop dusting business.

We now offer a continuing education program for those who want to own/operate their own business in ag spraying, which would include; selling you a plane, maintenance on the aircraft, and mentoring from Kiman Kinsgley while you build your business.

GarrCo CONTROL

It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but every once in a while, I come upon something worth repeating. I’m sure many of you have heard the 80-10-10 story that I tell when it comes to drift reduction products: 80 percent of the time nothing happens, 10 percent of the time the result is worse, and 10 percent of the time there is a definite improvement. Laboratory results may be better, but actual field experience has been pretty close to this.

For years, Arkansas S.A.F.E. clinics have included one day of field evaluations of drift potential. These evaluations have included a variety of different equipment setups and operating variables and typically include the favored drift reduction additives for the area. The data has been quite sporadic and probably a reflection of the variety of setups, weather conditions, mixing procedures, and operating variables. With all that said, there have been a few products that consistently show a positive response. Control™ from GarrCo Products, Inc., has been one of the products that has consistently shown a reduction in drift potential.

A replicated field study was conducted a few years ago to look at 19 different drift control additives and water using two aircraft. The aircraft were selected to give two separate speed scenarios, at 115 and 150 mph. This study appears on Garrco.com. I encourage you to obtain a copy of that report and see how your favorite product performed. Control™ was one of the top-performing products in this study.

The key to consistency can also hinge back to how well products perform under real field situations. Arkansas had many operators utilizing Control™ as a drift control additive. Some of the comments I hear are:

“Best material I’ve ever used.”

“Very easy to mix and load.”

“The material that I used to get on the windshield is gone.”

“Where can I get some Control™?”

When one starts hearing these types of comments, there may be more to the performance than just good lab results. I was visiting a couple of different operators during the season and overheard conversations where they were either going to borrow some Control™ from someone else's pallet until their shipment came in or another operator was coming to borrow some from there. This alone may tell the true story on performance.

Mixing and compatibility are one of the major issues with any drift reduction additive. John Garr and I met with an Arkansas aerial applicator on a very cold morning to evaluate several different tank mixes. John has some new products under development and the mix results on those are another story, but we tried every way we could think of to cause mix problems with Control™ without success. Control™ mixed very easily under all scenarios, even with almost ice-cold water!

I have had any number of operators ask me which drift control products are best. I’m not so sure there is a best product. Remember there are many application variables. I would recommend that operators select a product that consistently shows positive results. Also, additives alone are not the complete answer; although properly utilized, they may provide an extra margin of safety. Operators should use every tool possible to avoid drift, and proper equipment setup and operation will always play a dominant role.

Flight-Ready Engines Maintenance First

Aircraft Engine Overhaul — The Ends and Outs

Regular engine overhaul is fundamental to the successful and safe operation of fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft across all aviation sectors. In addition to line maintenance, base inspections, and performance data analysis, aircraft engines require a complete overhaul after a certain number of flight hours or cycles. While engine overhauls are an investment, regular maintenance helps to minimize operational costs and prevent more expensive repairs or complete engine replacements. Most importantly, they are required to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Aircraft engines operate under extreme conditions and are subject to significant wear and tear inside and out. The regular overhaul of all engine components supports the primary “hot section” function.

For Example:

• Casings & Covers

• Starter Generators

• Alternators

• Ignition Systems

• Blowers & Compressors

• Turbines & Blades

• Exhaust Systems

• Engine Governors

• Fuel Heaters

• Fuel Controls

• Oil Pumps

• Fuel Nozzles

What Happens:

The Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) of an aircraft engine is a meticulous process performed by certified technicians.

1. Disassembly: The engine is completely disassembled down to its fittings, wiring, fuel lines, and accessories.

2. Inspection: Every system is cleaned and inspected for wear, cracks, or other damage. Using techniques such as magnetic particle inspection, dye penetrants, and ultrasonic testing, flaws can be detected that are not visible to the naked eye.

The exact nature and location of any problem is diagnosed using various tools and procedures including ground testing, borescope inspections, and data analysis.

3. Component Repair/Replacement: Once a fault is identified, affected parts or systems are repaired or replaced. This could require spot welding, machining a new part, replacing it with a new OEM part, or installing a returned-to-service component from an approved MRO provider.

4. Reassembly and Testing: Once all parts have been inspected and repaired or replaced, the engine is fully reassembled. It then undergoes rigorous testing, including test cell runs when the engine is powered at various settings to ensure it performs correctly under all conditions.

Safety Regulations:

Regulatory bodies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Union Aviation Safety, Agency (EASA) and UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) set stringent standards for engine overhaul, including:

• Only licensed and certified technicians perform the work.

• Quality control measures must ensure the highest standards throughout the process.

• Only parts that meet the manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory approval are used.

• Detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and overhauls are kept.

• Routine scheduled overhauls help identify potential issues early, prevent costly repairs and support overall flight safety.

Attention Air Tractor 802 Operators:

ComPAASS Rose Session

The PAASS Com paass Rose Series is designed to provide professional support and direction for agricultural aviation pilots who are new to the industry and those want to learn more about the industry and what it takes to get into ag aviation.

If you want to know more about how start a career in agricultural aviation safely and successfully and have questions about finding an operator to work for, ag flight schools, how to deal with insurance, and many other topics then the Com paass Rose Series is the place to be. If you are an operator wanting to begin mentoring a new pilot into the industry but you’re not sure how to go about doing this, then the Com paass Rose Series is the place for you to be as well.

The goal is for the participants to enhance their own knowledge, continue to gain agricultural aviation experience, and improve their individual professionalism. Agricultural aviation pilots will have an opportunity to discuss ideas and philosophies about the business, make informed decisions about their future, and learn with some of the industry’s top operators. Operators can learn about mentoring new pilots and get an idea of the questions and concerns of pilots new to the ag aviation industry.

The Com paass Rose format was updated in 2017 to create an environment even more favorable for those pilots new to the industry or looking to get in to it. While Com paass Rose is open to anyone, the program was created specifically for that group. Anyone interested in agricultural aviation as a professional career is invited to participate in Com paass Rose.

Format

Com paass Rose is led by two PAASS presenters. The session begins with all participants in the main room. After introductions, participants will be split into two groups – new pilots and experienced pilots. New pilots are those with less than five years of experience as agricultural pilot or those with no ag aviation experience but are looking to get in to the industry. The experienced pilot group is everyone else.

The two groups are separated, with the new pilots being moved temporarily to a separate room. A series of questions are presented to each group using audience polling software to record an anonymous response. The goal of the questions is to facilitate a discussion about topics related to growing professionally as an ag pilot and to help operators learn how to recruit and mentor new pilots safely and effectively. While the two groups are asked different questions, the questions are paired up by topic, so that the perspective of both the new pilots and experienced pilots can be shared and discussed.

Once each group has gone through their series of questions and discussed issues of concern or interest, the new pilots are brought back into the main room to rejoin the experienced pilots. The responses to the questions of both groups are reviewed together, so that both the new and experienced pilots can see how the other group answered the questions. The whole group can then discuss the questions, answers, and any other topics of interest. Participants are encouraged to contribute their viewpoints and ask additional questions.

Having the new pilots in a room entirely by themselves is one of key benefits of the new format. It allows these pilots to ask the questions they might not be comfortable asking with more experienced pilots or their own operator present in the room. The discussion can focus on the things these new pilots have the most concern about. They can share these questions and concerns with each other and the PAASS presenter who leads their separate session. If concerns need to brought back to the whole group, they can be addressed by the PAASS presenter instead of the new pilot or pilots, who may wish to remain anonymous.

The ROTAMARKA™

A Lifeline for Agricultural Aviation Pilots

For agricultural pilots, flying low is a part of their everyday life. The ROTAMARKA™ is a vital tool in enhancing the safety of agricultural pilots, with one of the most significant hazards they face is power lines, often difficult to spot until it's too late.

DID YOU KNOW? Wire strikes are a leading cause of fatal accidents in agricultural aviation, with over 50 incidents reported in the U.S. between 2010 and 2019.

The ROTAMARKA™, designed to make power lines highly visible, is proving to be a game-changer in preventing these tragedies.

The ROTAMARKA™ features rotating, multi-colored fins that catch the wind, making power lines stand out even in challenging lighting conditions. This simple yet effective design ensures that pilots have a clear, early warning,

allowing them to take evasive action in time. By enhancing the visibility of these hidden dangers, the ROTAMARKA™ significantly reduces the risk of wire strikes, saving lives and preventing costly accidents.

The innovative ROTAMARKA™ doesn't just protect human life—it also plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation by helping birds avoid collisions with power lines.

As ROTAMARKA™ becomes more widespread, we can expect to see a continued decline in wire strike incidents, leading to safer skies and more secure power infrastructure for everyone.

For AgAir pilots, the ROTAMARKA™ is more than just a tool; it’s a lifeline that turns a nearly invisible threat into a visible, avoidable one, ensuring safer skies. Contact us today to learn more. Take action now to ensure a safer future!

CLEAN Means CLEAN with NO Residue Seen!

A call to action that propels recycling growth!

Stewardship of the ag chemical container has been our purpose since day one of the ACRC, but we cannot accomplish this without you! Remember our motto: “CLEAN means CLEAN with NO residue seen!” According to EPA regulations, containers cannot be collected for recycling unless they are clean. Clean containers help propel recycling growth. As the ACRC recycling program continues to expand, the decision was made this year to create several new plastic collection territories within the

southern United States. Several additional contractors were hired to fill these new territories while existing contractors filled others. Please visit the ACRC website to locate the collection contractor for your area, or to request your copy of our CLEAN means CLEAN poster to display where your empty, rinsed chemical containers are stored. The ACRC looks forward to seeing you at Booth #1502 at the Ag Aviation Expo in Fort Worth, TX November 18-21, 2024.

Flight Plan Online’s user-friendly design gives you and your customers a quick way to make maps and create jobs. It’s easy to include adjacent crops and hazards near the field. Email alerts let your customers track jobs without calling you for updates.

One of our most powerful tools is the Master Map. It gives you a clear overview of your jobs so you can get them organized and scheduled for spraying. Flight Plan Online makes it easy to upload field boundaries into your guidance system. Pilots can use our Mobile View to open

batches on the fly, select a job, and automatically record completion information.

Flight Plan Online helps you reduce risk. It flags sensitive areas on pilot maps. The maps give a clear view of fields and nearby landmarks, so you spray the right field. All work orders are kept online, so they can’t get lost.

Flight Plan Online is by your side from that first call for help, to the last pass.

Creating as-applied maps is quick and easy, and you can run application reports and invoices the same day you spray! When you have questions, our experienced customer service team is with you and ready to help.

Turbines, Inc.: Flexibility in Products, Repairs and Pricing

Turbines Inc is the independent PT6A overhaul/ repair shop in business since 1981. The FAA applies the same rigorous requirements to independent shops, like Turbines Inc., that they do to Pratt & Whitney approved shops. In fact, independent shops, like Turbines Inc., work from the same required manuals that “approved” Pratt & Whitney overhaul/repair shops do.

Independent overhaul/repair shops have more flexibility in products, repairs and pricing. Our customers get the same quality overhaul from our independent shop as you would from an approved Pratt & Whitney shop for significantly less money.

Products

Independent shops can use PMA parts (Parts Manufacturer Approval).

A PMA part is a replacement part that has undergone an extensive review process and received approval from the FAA. Often the FAA

subjects these parts to even more rigorous scrutiny than the OEM parts. PMA parts offer significant cost savings vs. OEM products. Of course, the customer will be consulted about their preference for OEM or PMA parts.

Pricing

Independent shops have greater flexibility in pricing

The same overhauled parts used by a Pratt & Whitney shop and an independent shop are typically priced very differently. Pratt & Whitney approved shop usually charges list less a percentage. We typically charge cost plus. This can be a significant difference in pricing for the same part resulting in savings from the independent shop. Service Bulletins can selectively be incorporated by an independent shop versus mandated installation in a Pratt & Whitney shop.

Noah Parr, Director of the Farm Labor Contractor Department for USA Farm Labor

The General Session’s second segment will focus on the H2A Program. Noah Parr is the Director of the Farm Labor Contractor Department for USA Farm Labor. He grew up in Lakeland, Florida, and always had a passion for aviation, stemming from the Sun ‘n Fun fly-in that his family attended annually. He turned that passion into education and during his high school years, attended Central Florida Aerospace Academy on the Lakeland Linder Airport. Although he never formally pursued aviation as a career, it remained a portion of his life beyond high school between volunteering at airshows, becoming a commercially licensed drone pilot, and now helping provide reliable labor to agricultural aviation employers nationwide.

Parr will present utilizing the H2A program to assist agricultural aviation employers nationwide to properly staff their businesses. He will discuss what it takes to qualify for the program and its various benefits and pitfalls. DynaNav Introduces the New Heads-Up Display – “DynaHUD”

Designed to fit in most aerial agricultural aircraft, DynaNav proudly presents the DynaHUD, our latest innovation.

“Simplicity at its Best”

Our corporate statement, “Simple by Design – Flexible in Application,” embodies DynaNav systems' unique capabilities, making operations simple, easy, and reliable for pilots. Our signature product support is a cornerstone of our reputation, celebrated by a wide range of customers and pilots, both fixed-wing and helicopter, who consistently provide feedback that they receive "the best support they have ever had."

The DynaFlight 3 system powers DynaNav’s unique DynaViz display, which sits up on the dashboard within the pilot’s field of view, outside the cockpit. Featuring the intuitive “Roadway” guidance display, pilots can easily follow the "Roadway" for precise and even application of products.

With the introduction of the DynaHUD heads-up display, pilots familiar with the DynaFlight system and its DynaViz (Mini-HUD) display attest that it surpasses any other GPS system on the market. The new DynaHUD represents the next generation of GPS guidance, significantly enhancing pilot safety and productivity.

Key Advantages of the DynaHUD Display:

1. Simplified Controls: All job inputs are controlled via the TopHat and Enter buttons on the pilot control grip or cyclic/collective in helicopters, ensuring a seamless user experience.

2. “Roadway” Navigation: The DynaHUD provides true “Free Form” navigation along with an "as-applied" score bar, allowing pilots to complete any pattern or non-pattern application without needing to touch any buttons.

3. Live Moving Map: The DynaHUD display includes a live moving map for spraying headlands, curved lines, and more.

DynaNav also offers a suite of products and technology for flow control of both liquids and dry materials. One example is our DynaFlow flow control system. When integrated with the DynaFlight 3 system, the DynaFlow ECU (Electronic Control Unit) manages electric valves and electric and hydraulic-driven pumps. Additionally, our DynaFlow systems include a boom pressure sensor that digitally displays the boom pressure and uses it to activate GPS marking output. Simply set the pressure you want, and the GPS will automatically start and stop marking.

Moreover, the Vektor MAX includes flow control electronics to drive flow valves and electric and hydraulicdriven pumps. We manufacture standalone flow control systems with integrated GPS receivers. These standalone systems are compatible with any GPS manufacturer for flow data to and from the GPS System, thanks to our open architecture communications protocol. Our new DynaFlow 2 Flow Control system features a compact HMI touchscreen for full pilot interface. It also offers various flow valves and flow meters to suit any aircraft or helicopter's needs. The system includes a digital boom pressure sensor with a relay switch output for spray marking on any GPS system.

Ensuring Quality with Original Products

The

Importance of USDA Testing Standards and Addressing Market Counterfeits

In the ever-evolving world of agricultural aviation, precision and reliability are non-negotiable. At our upcoming breakfast seminar at the national convention, we are honored to host Dr. Dennis Gardisser, a leading expert in the field, who will delve into two crucial topics affecting our industry: the importance of USDA testing standards and the growing concern over fly-by-night nozzles being introduced into the market.

The Significance of USDA Testing Standards

Agricultural spray nozzles play a pivotal role in ensuring that pesticides and other chemicals are applied accurately and safely. The USDA has long been a cornerstone in setting rigorous testing standards for these nozzles, helping to mitigate issues related to drift, coverage, and application rates. These standards are not just guidelines—they are the benchmark that ensures the effectiveness and safety of aerial applications.

Dr. Gardisser will address how USDA testing is integral to the credibility of products like CP Nozzles and AccuFlo Nozzles, which are well-respected in the industry for their performance. These products have undergone extensive testing and are backed by USDA data, which is a testament to their quality and reliability. The USDA's testing protocols establish a baseline for nozzle performance, helping manufacturers and users understand how products are likely to perform under specific conditions. However, it's important to note that these tests may not always simulate every possible real-world scenario.

Knock-off nozzles that attempt to mimic the design and function of CP Nozzles and AccuFlo products lack crucial validation from the USDA. These counterfeit products are not permitted to use USDA data and must undergo their own independent testing—a process that many do not rigorously follow.

The Threat of Counterfeit Nozzles

The rise of counterfeit products in our industry is not just a minor annoyance; it is a significant threat to the integrity of agricultural aviation. These fly-by-night nozzles, often marketed at a lower price, can be tempting to pilots and operators facing economic pressures. However, the long-term costs far outweigh the shortterm savings.

Counterfeit nozzles typically lack the durability of their genuine counterparts. Increased degradation of the nozzle can lead to uneven application, increased drift, and the need to replace the nozzles every season. Moreover, because they are not backed by USDA testing, their performance in the field can be highly unpredictable. This unpredictability can result in subpar crop coverage, environmental damage, and financial losses for operators.

Conclusion

Investing in genuine, USDA-tested nozzles is not just about adhering to industry standards; it's about safeguarding your investment and ensuring that your operations are as efficient and effective as possible. As we gather at the national convention, it is more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to quality and integrity in agricultural aviation. Dr. Gardisser's insights will undoubtedly provide valuable guidance on navigating the challenges posed by counterfeit products and underscore the critical role that USDA testing standards play in our industry.

By choosing genuine products and adhering to established standards, we not only protect our investments but also ensure the safety and success of our operations. Join us at the breakfast seminar to learn more about how you can safeguard your operations against these emerging threats and continue to achieve excellence in your aerial application practices.

Additional Topics for the Breakfast Seminar

In addition to the discussion about USDA standards and counterfeit nozzles, the breakfast seminar will also cover several other key topics, providing a comprehensive look at the latest advancements in aerial application technology.

Transland Boom Shut-Off Remote Mount

We will highlight our Boom Shut-Off Remote Mount, designed for the manual right-hand boom shut-off of an AT-802. This system, mounted inside the aircraft, reduces drag and improves spray pattern consistency. Attendees can learn more about this system through our newsletter archive and explore how it benefits aerial applicators in enhancing operational efficiency.

Boom Shut-Off Kits and Weldless Booms

Our Boom Shut-Off Kits, available with or without booms, will also be discussed. These kits are compatible with both classic and weldless booms. The weldless boom design is now standard for all Transland booms, improving durability and eliminating internal stresses from welding. We will cover how the boom shut-off kits integrate seamlessly with Satloc’s Falcon GPS system, allowing for precise sectional control of the booms during application.

Satloc Calculation Tools

From Satloc, we will share useful calculation tools designed to optimize equipment performance. These tools include the Flow Meter Sizing Calculator and the Liquid Calibration Factor Calculator, both of which are available inside the Satloc Falcon GPS system and as free resources on the Satloc website. These tools help ensure that customers can fine-tune their settings to achieve optimum performance in the field.

Over 79 Years of Flying Excellence

Lane Aviation, Inc. is embarking on its 79th year in business, a testament to our enduring commitment to the industry. Our company is built on a foundation of ethical business practices, instilling integrity in every aspect of Lane Aviation. This steadfastness has earned the trust of our valued customers, positioning us as the leading Air Tractor distributor for sales, service, and support. We owe our success to you, our customers, and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support. Thank you!

Lane Aviation's association with agricultural aircraft sales began with George Lane and Leland Snow in College Station, Texas, in 1957; Leland was demonstrating the S-2A. George gave Leland a deposit on one of the first five built! Shortly after that, Lane Aviation became a dealer for Snow Aircraft. Therefore, when Leland Snow developed Air Tractor, Lane Aviation's business relationship with Snow was well established. In 1974, Lane Aviation was selected as the first Air Tractor dealer and has since sold more than anyone else in the world.

Lane Aviation has always been a family-run company. George's sons have both been involved in the company. Grant Lane served as president of Lane Aviation until his passing in July of 2023. Mark Lane served as a pilot, both repositioning aircraft and as a relief pilot during the season for nearby operators for many years.

Grant's son, Logan Lane, represents the third generation in this family business and now serves as President of Lane Aviation. Logan, with a background from Texas A&M in business and agriculture, is also an Instrument and Multiengine, Commercially-rated pilot with experience ranging from Air Tractors to cabin-class aircraft. While Logan's fresh perspective lends itself to innovation, he has a foundation built on Grant's life-long experience in the agricultural aviation business. Grant's highly personalized customer service was a cornerstone customers counted on and valued. Whether an operator is transitioning to Air Tractors, moving from radials to turbine-powered aircraft, or updating their current fleet, Logan is there to offer help and advice along the way.

Lane Aviation operates from its airport in Rosenberg, Texas (T54), Lane Air Park. The maintenance facility can handle nearly every type of Air Tractor maintenance, including annual and periodic inspections, major airframe repairs and engine exchanges. The ability to perform up to and including hot section inspections and excellent business relationships with dedicated engine shops keep the customer well cared for. With Air Tractor factory training and multiple FAAcertified A&P and IA mechanics, the highest quality work can always be expected.

Also located at Lane Air Park is the fully stocked parts department of Lane Aviation, which has the most extensive stock of Air Tractor spares outside of the factory. Not only is it essential to have parts on hand to facilitate repairs made in the maintenance shop, but it's paramount to have an extensive inventory readily available to ship to our customers. Lane Aviation can offer same-day shipping on most orders. The first of its kind, Lane Aviation's parts department is available for online ordering at parts.laneav.com.

Lane Aviation has maintained its Part 137 aerial application operation for 70 years. That experience taught us how to best respond to ag operators' needs and helped us understand what it means to be AOG. Lane Aviation works diligently to ensure our customers get the required parts quickly. Whether a customer is two towns over or on another continent, Lane Aviation has the experience and expertise to get them back in the air.

In June 2024, Lane Aviation welcomed Patrick Humphrey to the team as its Operations Manager. Patrick brings a lifelong affiliation with ag aviation and real-world application knowledge to the Lane Aviation family.

In July 2023, Grant E. Lane, President and CEO of Lane Aviation, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Although there is a hole left that cannot be filled, the staff at Lane Aviation will continue to provide the resources and support that honor Grant's legacy.

Lane Aviation, Inc. will be proudly exhibiting at NAAA's Ag Aviation Expo in Fort Worth from November 19 to 21, 2024.

We invite everyone to stop by Booth #1407 for a drink on us and good Texas conversation.

Be sure to ask about our special convention sale prices for our industry-leading Lane brakes and fans.

The Lane brake and fan combination for spray pumps has been proven to be as rugged and reliable as they come.

See you in Fort Worth!

Soaring Installations of the LoadMaster 4-Blade Propeller

Aero Innovations is soaring with the installations of its LoadMaster 4-blade propeller. Since the release of the LoadMaster propeller in 2015, more than 165 have been installed. The customer feedback has been impressive. The propeller provides an additional increase of up to 233.6 equivalent shaft horsepower, increased thrust, shorter takeoff distance, and an improved climb rate. “After working with PT6 engines for over five decades, I thought there had to be a way to carry heavier loads but still have good turn capabilities. I went to work designing a solution, and we now have a highly efficient

prop with many satisfied customers,” Aero Innovations Founder and Innovator Jim Mills said.

Our 4-blade LoadMaster propellers are proudly flying in New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, and Guatemala. However, the majority are flying in the United States. The LoadMaster is also approved in Canada and Brazil. Additionally, Aero Innovations has an STC for the Record Intake for Thrush PT6A installation. Furthermore, Aero Innovations has developed a filter system that makes changing and cleaning the filter as easy as changing a furnace filter at home.

Since our inception, Kawak has adhered to a fundamental principle: our customers deserve more than average, and so do we. Our mission is clear: to enhance the lives of our customers, employees, and the industries we serve through aviation innovation.

Our success begins with identifying a customer's need for improvement and culminates in delivering a solution that enhances their operations and livelihood. In 1993, we tackled our first customer challenge, and today, 30 years later, Kawak provides utility aviation solutions for over 65 aircraft types and hundreds of customers worldwide.

Our latest customer-driven innovation is the KFlow 200 Variable Speed High Output Electric Spray Pump system. This system was developed in response to requests for a higher volume output, minimal installation modifications, and exceptional reliability solution. After five years of successful field testing, the KFlow 200 is now

available globally. It features Kawak’s environmentally sealed 28vdc brushless motors, known for their proven reliability, and offers both pilot-controlled variable speed and automatic speed modulation via GPS/flow control integration. With minimal maintenance requirements, options for RH and LH rotation, and a simple, efficient design, the KFlow 200 is a dependable solution for spray pump needs.

For our fixed-wing operators, we are excited to introduce the FAA-approved Powerstop+ throttle quadrant with a power lockout feature, now standard equipment in all Air Tractor 5, 6, 8, and 1002 fleets. AgPilotX – Built for Pilots

One Thousand AgPilotX Systems in the Field and Counting

AgPilotX is a GPS/GNSS Guidance System that was designed by Insero in Tempe, Arizona. It was designed with a simple concept: work as a tool to make the pilot’s life easier. “The goal is to lessen the workload on pilots –less things to think about, fewer things to do,” says Greg Guyette, founder of Insero.

This simplicity mantra can be seen all the way down to the system design – a Lightbar, a small Hub and an iPad Pro –only 3 modular components. That’s the entire system, and it weighs just under 11 pounds (5 kg) – including cables. The specialized helicopter AgPilotX system weighs even less, coming in just under 7 pounds (just over 3kg). This system is so compact, it can fit inside a shoebox (when using the Apple iPad mini, which many users prefer).

The Lightbar is simple yet more powerful than anything else in the industry. The GPS, the logging and the computer are all built in. And it’s all wireless. The Lightbar can independently run on its own with no other components – guidance and navigation built-in and modular.

Next is the Hub, which acts as much more than just the switch interface. It is also the Flow Controller, reducing the clutter and complexity of the system. Just plug a meter and valve directly into the Hub and go to work.

And lastly, it’s the interface. Every AgPilotX includes the latest and greatest offering from Apple technology – the iPad Pro. Leveraging Apple’s ability to easily connect to the cloud and get software updates to the users, Insero capitalizes on what is already tried and true. Anthony Fay, Director of Sales and Tech Support explains, “Using Apple products as our interface sure makes life easier. Apple has put great effort into making apps intuitive and easy to use and update. No more painful software upgrades and clumsy, expensive screens in the cockpit. Just take your iPad with you at the end of the day and all your work is right there.”

Into the Future – Employ the Cloud to Further Reduce Pilot Workload

Easily connecting to the cloud for real-time tracking and remote data storage makes pilots’ lives easier too. No

more downloading at the end of the day. No more painful boundary uploads or trying to figure out where you’re going. Full imagery of the planet gives ideal situational awareness, and sending boundary files directly to and from the aircraft through online programs eliminates one more pain point for pilots.

And no more expensive programs to create field boundaries. AgPilotX reads boundary files like Google Earth kmls and Shape files with ease. To create kmls, open Google Earth (free program) and create a kml by tapping on the screen. Email the kml to the AgPilotX and then just open the file – it appears in the AgPilotX App. And if you want to preset AB lines – just tap the field on the screen – AB lines can be set to any edge.

Finally, Insero makes sure its AgPilotX System operates with any and all software partners. Programs from ChemMan, FlightPlan Online, AgOpti, Perfect Flight, AgSync, Surety and EverAg all interface with the AgPilotX API to make sure log and job files can get back and forth with little to no effort from the pilot.

Insero is rolling out a number of software enhancements and feature additions to AgPilotX in the 2024-2025 offseason. Among the updates are iOS performance enhancements to minimize any app map latency, mapping blurriness and app crashing. New features include halfboom, smart rate control with valve feedback and new patterns such as multi-back to back and expand.

AgPilotX Technical Support

We would be remiss if we did not mention Insero’s growing support team. Insero continues to focus on great technical support as a key to its success in the aerial application business. Insero has some of the most experienced individuals in the business with regard to GPS and Guidance Systems. The AgPilotX hotline at +1 602-610-1299 gives pilots quick answers to questions and allows Insero’s customers to address their concerns directly with Insero employees.

Insero will continue to develop AgPilotX with customer input as the driving force for the product’s evolution. Share your thoughts and ideas about AgPilotX with Insero at the Booth or online at www.agpilotx.com. Anyone interested in onsite demos or webinars/tutorials on the software, contact the hotline listed above.

SwathPRO ® Aerial Spray System

Steadily Gaining Believers

Two years after the CapstanAG SwathPRO aerial application system became available to the public, pilots and operators using the precision ag system are praising it for its ability to reduce operational costs and improve overall productivity.

The SwathPROsystem’s success in the field is backed by years of testing and many thousands of treated acres, and with positive feedback from users. The system's ability to handle a variety of spraying scenarios without frequent spray nozzle adjustments makes it a valuable drift mitigation tool for aerial applicators.

Jeff Hemeyer, SwathPRO national account sales manager, reports awareness and adoption of the system has steadily grown since its introduction, with strong interest and sales of the system in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

The SwathPRO advanced agricultural spraying system utilizes “precision ag” technology and precise flow control to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of aerial application in wide a range of conditions.

Pilots use SwathPRO ProMaker software to create custom spray profiles on the ground that can then be selected in flight. This allows for precise applications when targeting different areas, accommodating varying crop types, growth stages, and environmental conditions.

SwathPRO Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology allows each nozzle to be individually optimized and adjusted before flight as well as from the cockpit while spraying. It gives pilots the ability to adjust pressure and flow rates, ensuring precise application regardless of changing conditions in the field. The in-cockpit control unit lets pilots adjust deposition without landing the airplane, which significantly boosts operational efficiency.

TCL, a family-owned global business, is built on the core principles of innovation, quality, safety, and integrity. We are continuously seeking new solutions for the industry, never resting on past successes but always striving for improvement.

In 2024, we’ve made several enhancements to our SPF program. These include significantly reducing SPF delivery lead times, expanding our network of installation centers with two new facilities in Brazil, and welcoming a new US dealer, Ag Air Aircraft. We also anticipate EASA approval for the SPF system soon, enabling us to better serve the European market. Additionally, we are excited to offer a new SPF version specifically designed for the Air Tractor Fire Boss.

In true Bill Hatfield fashion, innovation never stops. The original Custom Air Single Arm Tailwheel for the AT 802 & 602 (STC SA0286WI) has found a new home at TCL. We've updated the design, replacing the upper bushing in the existing housing with a bearing/race combination for a smoother, tighter ride that reduces excessive vibration. Now more durable and reliable than ever, we are pleased to offer this modification as both a new assembly and spare parts to support current STC owners in 2025. Be sure to visit Booth 1007 at the Expo to see it in person.

Since 2018, TCL has proudly served as the North American distributor for Zanoni Equipment, manufactured in Brazil. Zanoni offers a full line of stainless steel precision

application equipment for all makes and models of aircraft, and we maintain a full inventory at our Michigan facility, ready to ship to the US and Canada.

In September, we were thrilled to host Lucas Zanoni from the Zanoni factory for our 2nd Annual Midwest tour. Lucas and Mark visited ag operators in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, as well as our SPF dealers, North Star Aviation and Beckman Maintenance. These face-to-face visits allow us to better understand the needs of our customers and how to best serve them.

This year, Mark Grahek also spent time in both North and South Dakota, working with customers who are implementing Zanoni atomizers in their operations. We are committed to supporting our customers through calibration clinics and personalized service, ensuring that Zanoni atomizers deliver optimal results in the US and Canada.

Bill Hatfield has always believed in offering quality products at fair prices, and every day we strive to honor that commitment. With over 40 STCs for the agricultural aviation market and a complete line of Zanoni stainless steel dispersal equipment, TCL is ready to help propel your Hatfield Hydraulic Fire Gates for Air Tractor and Thrush, Variable Rate Gates, Full Swivel Tailwheels, and Thrush Reinforced Leading Edges.

Angelina Flying Installs First “IRON ARM” Universal Ag Gate Actuator in U.S.

Any agricultural pilot worth his salt is intimately familiar with the manually adjustable DUMP handle (see photos on the right) commonly used to open and close the AG gate door during fertilizer and seeding operations.

The DUMP handle manual adjustment has been in use for years and ships standard on Air Tractor aircraft that have a Transland 5” AG gate installed.

The forces required to manually operate the dry gate are fairly high and a long day of fertilizer or seed work can be pretty hard on the pilot’s left arm.

Various AG pilots asked Trotter Controls for a very simple to operate, all-electric system that functions identically to the manual dry gate adjustment mechanism.

The term “IRON ARM” was born since a product that literally replaces the pilot’s left arm for dry gate work was needed. The team at Trotter Controls started on the project and Lary Graf of Angelina Flying, Inc. out of Vidalia, LA offered to help define the system features as well as perform initial testing of the system.

Lary’s experience in the industry helped the Trotter Controls team to develop a reliable, no-frills solution. The IRON ARM allelectric actuator replaces one of the vertical linkages used in the manual DUMP handle mechanism. This arrangement keeps the electric actuator inside the fuselage and functions exactly like the original manual gate adjustment mechanism. The IRON ARM actuator works with any manual 5” gate and is installed with only two bolts.

The design allows for the existing manual DUMP handle and the existing manual gate adjuster to be used if the IRON ACTUATOR is turned off or is INOP.

The IRON ARM was recently installed on one of Angelina’s AT802 aircraft fitted with a Transland 5” manual gate. The system worked as expected with plenty of speed and force for reliable operation.

Lary Graf said that “The system is super easy to install and operate. The best part about it is that if the IRON ARM were to fail, I can still get my work done using the manual DUMP handle and manual gate adjuster instead of going back to the hangar to work on the gate system”.

The product is a great example of how experienced pilots can guide industry to create products that are tailored to fit the unique challenges that AG operations bring to aviation.

Pratt & Whitney Canada’s Dedication to Powering Ag Aviation Aircraft

Pratt & Whitney Canada’s dedication to the powerplant needs of aerial application (Ag) customers recognizes the vital role Ag operators play in a modern, healthy and prosperous society. Whether it is increasing crop yields, combatting invasive plants and insects, or fighting forest fires, Ag operators help both feed the world and protect it.

Our customer service and powerplant experts will attend this year’s National Agricultural Aviation Association’s Ag Aviation Expo, November 18-21 in Fort Worth, Texas, as they have for the past many years. P&WC is also a long-time supporter of the NAAA’s two research, educational and safety initiatives – NAAREF and PAASS, both of which have made major strides in enhancing safety and best practices in agricultural aviation.

When we started working with Ag OEMs and operators in the 1980s, the industry already had 60 years under its belt. The original 60 percent boost in productivity operators achieved by adopting PT6A turbine engines over the previous piston engine technology has continued to improve. Over the years we have produced eight engine models for the ag aviation industry, and we have delivered more than 4,100 Ag engines in total. These engines range in power from 550 shaft horsepower (SHP) to 1,700 SHP; the latest being the PT6A-140AG.

An Impressive Lineup

When buying an Air Tractor AT-802A aircraft, Ag operators can choose between our PT6A-65AG engine or the PT6A-67AG engine depending on their needs. According to Air Tractor, the AT802 is the largest single-engine aircraft in the world with a payload of 9,249 pounds and a whopper of a hopper at 800 gallons. Air Tractor also has a firefighting version of the aircraft – the AT-802F Fire Bossequipped with floats and powered by the PT6A-67F engine, one of the most powerful in the PT6A family.

A more recent addition to the Air Tractor family is the 502XP, powered by the PT6A140AG. Equipped with a 500-gallon hopper, the aircraft can take off with just 1,308 feet of runway.

Thrush Aircraft has also been keeping our engine fleet busy. The Thrush 510P with a 510-gallon hopper capacity relies on the PT6A-34AG, while the Thrush 510P+ uses the more powerful PT6A-140AG. Thrush’s larger 710P with a 710-gallon hopper capacity comes with three different, progressively more powerful, engine options: the PT6A-60AG, the PT6A-65AG, or the PT6A-67AG.

New P&WCSMART Offers

Responding to the special needs of Ag operators, P&WC recently introduced three new P&WCSMART services for the PT6A-34AG engine. The new solutions include: a Flat-Rate Overhaul program which guarantees the overhaul price, a Flat-Rate Engine Exchange program, and a Propeller Strike program which covers required repair parts and labor at a set price point.

PT6A Seminar

P&WC will stage a day-long PT6A engine seminar for IA (inspection authorization) renewal. The seminar will run from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on Sunday, November 17.

Tennessee Aircraft Co., Inc.

Tennessee Aircraft Co. overhauls all the PT6A simplex fuel nozzles and TPE331-1 through -12 to the overhaul standard and at a competitive price to shops that work the nozzles to just the maintenance manual standards. For example, on competitive prices, overhauling a set of PT6A simplex nozzles is a true flat rate price on “as removed” nozzles, including tip replacements. If you send in the shields, the replacement would be additional, along with gaskets and o’rings.

We feel the overhaul standard gives you the smallest fuel droplets you can attain versus working a nozzle to the lesser maintenance manual standards, which leave minor streaking and voids in the spray pattern. You want the most complete burn of the fuel droplets before entering the turbine section, which produces the least amount of sooting and carbon. This carbon traveling through the turbine section near the speed of sound erodes the stators and wheels, which are the big ticket item in turbine engine maintenance.

Tennessee Aircraft Co. is happy to announce we are adding capabilities to overhaul the PT6A Duplex Nozzles and expect to be ready to offer this service to our customers by the end of the year.

Valley Air Crafts Marks 40 Years Serving Aerial Applicators

“Time really does fly,” says Valley Air Crafts President Mike Schoenau. “which seems appropriate given the business we’re in.” This 40th year of operation has been a busy one for the team at Valley Air Crafts. Schoenau says he’s never been busier since expanding his Air Tractor dealer territory to encompass not only California but also a big part of the Pacific Northwest. “I certainly travel a lot more these days,” Schoenau says with a grin. “We’re laser-focused on supporting our Air Tractor ag and aerial firefighting customers.” He says the NAAA Ag Aviation Expo offers the opportunity to slow down for a few days and touch base with old friends.”

Valley Air Crafts sells and supports the full line of Air Tractor aircraft from its location at Mefford Field Airport (TLR), just outside Tulare, California. At the company’s 8,000 square foot hangar/maintenance and parts facility, an experienced team of maintenance technicians and a full-time parts specialist provide the expert knowledge and responsive support that customers rely upon to keep flying and earning.

Says Schoenau, “I believe, after all this time, we’ve earned a reputation as the go-to- source for ag aviators and aerial firefighting operators in this region. “One call is all it takes to tap into our aircraft maintenance experience and the biggest Air Tractor parts inventory in the U.S. Northwest,” Schoenau adds.

Valley Air Crafts maintains an expansive inventory of OEM parts and aerial application products. Because Valley Air Crafts is located on the West coast, parts orders can be called-in and fulfilled after central and eastern time zone parts suppliers have closed. “Our Pacific time zone can really make a difference when customers find themselves in a bind and need replacement parts really quick,” says Schoenau.

Visit Valley Air Crafts at Booth #1423 during the NAAA 2024 Ag Aviation Expo.

A Legacy of Quality in Aerial Application

At Transland, our commitment to quality has been the foundation of our success for decades. We are proud to continue this legacy by developing and refining products that meet the highest standards in the aerial application industry. As we gear up for this year's national convention, we are excited to showcase some of our latest advancements and product offerings, all designed to enhance efficiency, safety, and precision for aerial applicators.

Right-Hand Boom Shut-Off and 50/60% Boom Shut-Off Kits

One of the standout products we’re highlighting is our Right-Hand Boom Shut-Off and 50/60% Boom Shut-Off Kits. These systems are integral to helping ensure that pilots can manage their spray patterns with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption. By integrating with the Satloc Falcon and G4 GPS systems, these shut-off kits help allow for precise control over the flow rate and swath width, adapting to the specific needs of each operation.

The compact design of our boom shut-off kits significantly reduces drag, minimizing the impact on the spray pattern. This is crucial for maintaining consistent application quality across different field conditions. Whether you’re flying a Thrush or Air Tractor, these kits offer the flexibility needed to achieve optimal results, backed by the reliability that Transland products are known for.

Remote Mount Actuator for a Manual Right-Hand Boom Shut-Off Valve

In response to the needs of aerial applicators, we’ve developed a Remote Mount Actuator for the manual right-hand boom shut-off valve. This actuator is designed to be mounted inside the aircraft, effectively removing the actuator motor from the airstream. This not only minimizes disruption to the spray pattern but also reduces pilot fatigue by allowing for easy operation through a toggle switch.

The benefits of this system are clear: by streamlining the control of the boom shut-off, we help pilots maintain focus on their primary tasks, improving overall safety and efficiency. The system is for AT-802 aircraft with manual RH boom shut-off, offering a practical solution that enhances the operational capabilities of aerial applicators.

Electric Gate Improvements

Our electric gate systems are a popular choice by many in the aerial application industry, and we’re pleased to announce further improvements based on fieldwork and customer feedback. Recent upgrades include enhanced gearing and software changes that provide stronger load capacity, smoother operation, and greater precision. These updates are part of our ongoing commitment to innovation.

Factory Presets for Dry Application Profiles

The factory presets for dry application profiles encompass a variety of blends and pure substances tailored for different agricultural needs. The 26 preset profiles include different formulations of Urea and Sulfate mixtures, various Dry Rice applications, and specialized profiles for Wheat Seed.

Each profile is designed with specific application rates and swath widths to optimize the effectiveness of the application for different crops and field conditions. Pilots and agronomists can utilize these presets as a base to create customized profiles that best suit their unique crop and soil requirements.

Title: Measuring the Effect of Adjuvants on Droplet Spectrum in Aerial, Drone and Ground Applications Using a High-speed Wind Tunnel

Author: Ulisses Antuniassi, PhD

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of adjuvants on the droplet spectrum generated by different devices in the simulation of aerial, ground and drone spraying applications, using a high-speed wind tunnel. The hydraulic nozzles for ground and aerial application, as well as rotary devices used in aerial application and drones were installed in a wind tunnel equipped with a Sympatec Helos particle analyzer and subject to different air flow speeds. Several spray solutions were evaluated, the first being the dilution of a SC formulation fungicide in water, and the others containing this fungicide in tank mix with adjuvants (modified vegetable oil, guar-based polymer, silicone-based surfactant, and non-ionic surfactant based on ethoxylated nonyl phenol), all adjusted label rates. Spray volume was adjusted to 100 L/ha on ground applications and 10 L/ha for aerial and drone applications. The volume median diameter, the percentage by volume composed of droplets smaller than 100 μm and the relative spam data were generated. The results showed that there was interference from the adjuvants according to each type of droplet generator (tips with and without air induction and the rotating nozzle), as well as there was interference from the air flow. The performance of the hydraulic and rotating nozzles was different depending on the different adjuvants, just as the nozzles with and without air induction reacted differently to the presence of the various adjuvant technologies.

Bio: Agronomist, PhD in Agronomy, Professor at Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu/ SP - Brazil. Over 35 years of experience in Agricultural Engineering, focusing on application technology, ground sprayers, aerial application, UAV spray application, spray solutions, formulations, adjuvants, spray drift and good agricultural practices.

Hit your Target and Increase Efficacy with Drift-fiant

AgraSyst’s drift reduction technology—Drift-fiant™ spray adjuvant, specializes in creating the optimum size droplet for herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide applications resulting in: better coverage, better canopy penetration, reduced off target movement, increased efficacy, and overall better performance.

Off target movement means droplets missing the intended target resulting in poor coverage and reduced efficacy. This happens in 2 different ways: droplets that are too small (< 200 microns) and droplets that are too big (> than 400 microns). Off target drift is the result of droplets that are too small that don’t to get to the intended target. Conversely, oversized droplets lead to poor overall target coverage. Too big or too small droplets—both result

in a loss in costly product. Drift-fiant™ works by increasing the size of droplets that are too small without increasing the number of oversized droplets. Drift-fiant™ significantly concentrates the size of droplets being sprayed into the optimum droplet size.

Drift-fiant™ has been shown to increase amount of spray volume being sprayed at the optimum size by over 10%. This equates to over 10 gallons out of 100 gallons more product getting on target. Drift-fiant™ reduces drift while delivering more active ingredient where it needs to go resulting in better efficacy overall. Pictured above is the result of adding Drift-fiant™ to a Canola desiccation application. Notice how much better the treatment was when including Drift-fiant™.
