To advance the cause of fine arts in America through the promotion of high standards of beauty, integrity and craftsmanship in painting, sculpture and the graphic arts. To emphasize the importance of order and coherent communication as prime requisites of works of art through exhibitions and publications.
The non-profit Howland Cultural Center is the ‘Jewel of Beacon,’ a historic venue originally built in 1872 as a library by the architect Richard Morris Hunt. The center now serves as a vibrant hub for cultural events and activities, including art exhibitions, musical performances, and literary readings. The center’s mission is to promote and celebrate the arts, culture, and community of the Hudson Valley region. With its stunning Victorian architecture and rich background, the Howland Cultural Center is a beloved and important institution in the local community. The gallery is open free to the public during weekends and by appointment.
Organized by the American Artists Professional League and held in a 19th century library nestled in the quaint town of Beacon, New York, in the heart of the Hudson River Valley, "Realism on the Hudson" is a small works show, celebrating the timeless beauty of traditional realism. Visit the carefully curated exhibit featuring an array of contemporary realist paintings and drawings that range from landscapes and still lifes, to figurative compositions.
The exhibition aims to make accessible contemporary art, encouraging collectors to take home their purchases immediately, with a diverse collection of modestly sized masterpieces.
I am so pleased and proud to present AAPL’s 2024 exhibition at the historic and beautiful Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, New York. We received many submissions and the jury consisting of the AAPL Board of Directors and show chairs, Brian McClear and Deborah Gersony selected 85 small works to be included in this exhibition. The show includes work in Oil, Acrylic, Pastel, Graphics, and Water media. Member artists who are Elected Artist, Signature, Fellow, and Life members are represented in this show.
This exhibition is special since most of the artwork due to the smaller sizes will be affordable - the exhibition aims to make accessible contemporary art, encouraging collectors to take home their purchases immediately.
Beacon, New York located in the Hudson Valley is a dynamic destination for art lovers as it has numerous galleries, studios, and art events throughout the year.
I'm thrilled that the AAPL is having an exhibition at Howland Cultural Center for the second consecutive year! Due to Howland's rich history and its beautiful architecture, which has so much character, I think it's a perfect venue for our show. I hope collectors consider supporting our artists in their labor of love by bringing home that perfect "small work" of art."
Sincerely,
Deborah Gersony-

Brian McClear-
Brian McClear is a representational artist who loves the process of painting. Whether he is exploring portraiture or everyday objects, his passion for form and texture is evident. Working mostly in oil, his paintings present the insightful (and sometimes quirky) connections he forms from his subjects to capture a mood or tell a story, express an opinion or comment on a trend, or . . . simply observe something funny.
Currently living and working in Connecticut, Brian grew up in Ohio where he earned his BFA from Columbus College of Art. Upon graduation, he moved to New England where he first built a successful career as a freelance graphic illustrator and then focused his creativity and problemsolving skills to lead the marketing technology arm of one of the leading ad agencies in the nutmeg state. Over his 25-year tenure, he was instrumental in creating hundreds of interactive campaigns for a who’s who of leading brands.
Brian’s work has received numerous national awards and can be found in private collections and museums across the United States.
