One of Dubai’s oldest landmarks that is known in the neighbourhoods.
Neighbourhoods
The community of Karama sits near Oud metha and Bur Dubai.
Brings a community together.
Zabeel park makes the neighbourhood of Karama more lively by bringing in users together.
Frames the past, present and future developements of Dubai.
Karama offers a wide range of transportation services for users like the metro, bus stops and taxis.
Karama is one of the oldest commercial and residential neighbourhoods in Dubai with good transportation systems like the metro, taxis and buses. The diagram shows how spaces are used and how people access the site from different areas. Karama is one of the oldest commercial and residential neighbourhoods in Dubai with good transportation
The buildings surrounding Karama are low rise buildings that provides a low cost liv-
These mixed used buildings provides supermarkets , tailoring shops and saloons for users.
Karama is cramped interms of parking and the level of carbon is therefore high.
Observational drawings were carried out during the site visit to Karama to understand the surroundings of the site and it helped to figure out nearby shops, transport and user groups.

The study model shows how the slope design changes as it starts off with two separate libraries and the final design has three slopes combined to form a building that connects to the land-
The building is in form of a single mass to reduce carbon footprint Building consists of three slopes that extends to the ground. Trees added to give in a forest landscape
The pathways provides access to users from different areas to the building. The pink arrow represents the main entrance.
The slope is accesible to people and it creates a connection between people and the building.
The roof design consists of Algae panels and a agreen roof. The algae panels respond well due to the orientation of the building
The spatial design has been organised to bring in users to the library. The wide entrance with a view of the mushroom columns brings in users as it has a good seating area with book shelves and a pleasing view.
The mushroom columns brings in an intresting approach to the design as it is asthetically pleasing and it provides support for the mezzanine.
The childrens library brings in some playfullness with bookshelves
The micro algae used in the facades are .cultivated in flat panel glass bioreactors

How does Algae help bring in change in karama
Through the macro study, multiple parking lots can be identified and Karama is cramped interms of parking. The more the cars, the higher the carbon levels. Using algae can benefit the community in Karama as it can wipe out the carbon and its much more efficient than a tree
Provides shade for glazing
Revolving around bookshelves
Activities placed near trees
Users can access the grass slope.
The project is based on a lively neighbourhood in Karama that brings a community together. The main aim of the project is to design a public library with a park that blends in well. Through the micro studies, the carbon levels were evident as there were many parking lots and linking this to the urban generator chosen for this project, algae can help wipe out carbon and this would bring up a healthier community. The main concept of the design is to create a slope that creates a connection between the landscape and the building as the slope extends to the ground. The extension of the concrete slope towards the ground allows people to use it. The algae façade is oriented in a way to respond well to sunlight. Mushroom columns are placed in the main library for structural stability as it gives in support for the mezzanine. It can also provide an aesthetically pleasing view for users as they can get a different experience walking through the area. Moreover, the landscape design integrates a wide variety of elements to attain functional spaces for outdoor areas and each space consists of an activity. The park has a wide mix of local trees and shrubs that creates a lush forest surrounding for the activities.
The diagrams represents the developement of zoning and the change from the building can be seen as it starts off with two separate buildings and to reduce the carbon footprint, the slopes were joined together to form one. A pathway is created at the side for the main entrance.
