WELCOME TO THE DUST UP

Terrain Tamer launches new short film

“Welcome to the Dust Up,” Terrain Tamer’s Head Engineer Allan Gray announces to several competitive 4WDrivers who are gathered around him with their vehicles, ready to embark on a 100km trip over harsh and dangerous terrain toward the coveted Dry Water Creek trophy.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” he asks, as the drivers scramble to get into their vehicles and take off. If you are wondering why you have never heard of the Dry Water Creek Trophy, or how you can get in on the action, you should know that this isn’t your usual 4WD competition or weekend out on the tracks.

BUSY TIMES

The 4WD Industry Council has had a big year

We might only be at the half way mark, but already 2023 has proved exceptionally busy for the 4WD Industry Council (4WD IC). Firstly, there have been a few changes to the committee including the addition of myself, and we also welcomed our new committee members, Clinton Brett (Diesel Help Australia), Chris Ellis (Monroe Australia) and Mike Tomsett (SWD Group).

Back in February, the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) and the 4WD IC were proud to announce that the MTA Institute in Queensland will offer the AUR22021 – Certificate II in Automotive Accessory Fitting traineeship.

This is an exciting milestone for the 4WD Industry to provide a qualification that will develop the knowledge and skills of the current and future industry workforce in alignment with industry best practice and relevant state and federal guidelines.

The 4WD IC hope that MTA will be the first of many providers nationwide and we encourage all our members to support the program.

In March the 4WD IC networking breakfast was held at the National 4x4 and Outdoor Show in Brisbane. The event sold out, with representatives from the 4WD industry from across the country gathering to hear the latest industry updates.

The Australian 4WD Industry Council is a non-competitive, specialist council of the AAAA. It has been formed to provide advice, understanding and a strategic approach to market issues from regulators, governments, 4WD enthusiasts and community groups. www.4wdcouncil.com.au

Rather, it is the opening scenes of “Dust Up –Fast Parts 2,” a short film released by 4WD parts company, Terrain Tamer.

Terrain Tamer’s first short film ‘Fast Parts’ was released in 2021, gaining international recognition on social media and becoming one of the company’s most viewed videos of all time – which is no small feat for a brand which has been providing the internet with engaging and informative 4WD video content for well over 10 years.

‘Dust Up’ is the follow up, which sees 4WD mechanic and industry personality Mad Matt battle against the odds of a broken CV Joint to compete for Allan Gray’s fictional trophy, and comes after almost two years of planning, filming, and editing.

Filmed on location at Cherrabah Homestead Resort in Queensland, the film marks the first coming together of the two 4WD mechanics, both of whom work closely with the Terrain Tamer 4WD parts brand, and showcases some of the more extreme terrain that the 5086-acre property has to offer.

‘Dust Up’ is available to view now at www.terraintamer.tv

Attendees heard from special guest MTA Queensland Director of Industry Initiatives, Paul Kulpa, 4WD IC Convenor, Nigel Bishop, and AAAA Director of Government Relations, Lesley Yates. Our next 4WD IC breakfast will be held in Melbourne on Thursday the 18th of August, so make sure you save the date – we look forward to seeing you all there for future updates and to hear from our exciting guest speakers.

The Brisbane 4x4 Show was proof that the industry is booming, seeing 26,000 people through the gate over the three-day event. Although numbers were slightly down on the prior year with the competition of the CMC festival being held over the same weekend, it was still great to see thousands of attendees excited to be part of a growing industry. March was a busy month, with AAAA and the 4WD IC also welcoming the new Gross Combination Mass (GCM) code in Queensland.

The code was released by the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and is a huge win for not only automotive aftermarket parts manufacturers but also Queensland recreational vehicle enthusiasts. The success of the code allows vehicles to be modified in a safe and legal manner to support increased payloads including towing caravans and trailers; and it is a great representation of the strong, positive relationship between the industry and regulators.

Not only was the new GCM code realised, but there was also welcome updates to the High Lift Modification guidelines in Queensland, providing vehicle owners and the Aftermarket industry assurance and clarity that they are keeping themselves and others on our roads safe. Coming up on the 9th of June we will have the inaugural National Light Vehicle Modification Summit. Taking place at Autocare in Brisbane, the Summit is a new initiative to support the future of automotive aftermarket manufacturers. The Summit will be a great opportunity to see market leaders, regulators, product developers, business owners and industry experts all in one place. I believe the Summit is a proactive step for the industry and I look forward to being a part of it and seeing you all there.

2023 is shaping up to be a fantastic year and I am looking forward to what the future holds for the 4WD and Aftermarket industries. I hope to see you at one of our events soon!

THE GARAGE MIAMI TO HOLD OPEN DAY

The Gold Coast business is holding an open day on the 24th of June, 2023

The automotive industry is constantly evolving, and the aftermarket industry is no exception.

The Garage Miami says it has shown that being an independent business can mean less red tape, allowing for agility and pivoting to meet the ever-changing landscape of 4x4 aftermarket accessories.

The Garage Miami states it has continuously expanded its product range, conducted extensive research into market trends, and invested in staff training.

It says this has made them a leader in 4x4 upgrades on the Gold Coast, with its focus on quality and innovation leading to a continuous feed of new customers, with the latest released vehicles, providing a steady stream of customers for vehicle servicing and new tyre installations.

The Garage Miami states it has firmly set itself as a genuine dealership alternative.

“We have listened to our customers and have created a business model that gives them what

they want, a premium one stop service centre for maintaining and upgrading their vehicles,” The Garage Miami Director, Nathan Brookes, said.

Nathan’s vision to be a true dealership alternative extended beyond the goods and services of regular service centres.

“We love cars, and so do our customers. This is why we ensure all the products we use are tried and tested, only using products we’d proudly use on our own vehicles,” Nathan said.

“Plus, our staff are highly trained, specialised mechanics for vehicle brands. This gives our customers the peace of mind knowing the investment they are making in their vehicle is in good hands.”

The Garage Miami says its open day on the 24th of June is a prime example of its commitment to connecting with its customers and staying relevant.

The event will focus on the upgrades and accessories available for Next Gen Ford Ranger

“An example of this is the development of our Venture canopy. This canopy was designed from the ground up with the Australian ute market in mind.

“We worked with our product planning team in Thailand to design a canopy that offers our customers the function they require but incorporates style and class-leading specifications. “We also test fit all our floor liners in our Australian spec vehicles before putting them into production to ensure the products we bring to market offer perfect fit and quality that we back with a lifetime warranty and fit guarantee.”

Maxliner Australia are currently recruiting Stockists and Distributors across the country.

If you retail high-quality automotive aftermarket accessories, it asks that you consider adding the Maxliner brand to your business, stating that its commitment to quality, customer service, and a wide range of quality products will help give your business a market edge.

GO STEEPER. DEEPER. FURTHER. WITH DT4X4

Engineered to tackle the harshest of conditions, DT4x4’s wide range of parts and accessories are built for performance and durability

A little over 20 years ago, Drivetech4x4 was launched into the Australian market focused on selling hard parts

Over the years, the Drivetech4x4 range has expanded to axles, steering components, suspension, lighting and other 4x4 accessories to offer the complete 4x4 solution.

Despite its rapid growth, Drivetech4x4 says one thing always remained the same – its reputation for value and quality amongst the nation’s best automotive electrical and mechanical specialists. The 4x4 market has changed a lot since the brand’s humble beginnings 20 years ago, however Drivetech4x4’s commitment to providing quality and value 4x4 products to Australians has never wavered.

From day one to today as one of Australia’s fastest growing 4x4 brands, Drivetech4x4 says it has been a 4x4 brand Australians can rely on.

It says this is why it is now excited to relaunch its trusted brand with an ever-expanding product range under the shortened name, “DT4x4.”

Australians love to shorten names and give nicknames to their beloved people and things, so whilst Drivetech4x4 has been affectionally

shortened to DT4x4 by those who know and love it, the brand is now embracing its Aussie heritage and officially calling itself DT4x4.

Whilst the brand may be taking on a shortened name, those behind it say you can rest assured that the high-quality and value-driven product range is doing anything but getting smaller.

With an already substantial product offering, plus new quality products for 4x4 and offroad vehicles launching later this year, the DT4x4 range will have you covered across 4x4 parts and accessories.

With sturdy engineering and rugged materials that are built tough for harsh Australian conditions, DT4x4’s lighting solutions have long been trusted by 4WDers to get them to their destination safely.

The new Light Bar range from DT4x4 is no exception, with die-cast aluminium housing, fully sealed to IP68 and IP69K rating for complete protection against dust and water ingress and EMC compliance to stop any interference with communications equipment.

Featuring an advanced AR optical system and high-powered 5W Osram LEDs, the range boasts combination beam technology ensuring that the light is directed where you need it most while on or off road, including illuminating roadway edges for maximum safety and visibility.

Tested for salt spray, impact resistance, vibration, and UV resilience, DT4x4 says you can rely on its

Light Bars to go the distance and handle whatever the Aussie weather and climate throws at them. Whether you are camping locally, or deep off the grid, having a decent light source makes all the difference. Thanks to DT4x4’s newest LED overhead area light kit (Telescopic Camping Light Kit, DT-5SMD), you can take your campsite to the next level!

The collapsible LED light kit offers impressive illumination to ensure visibility throughout all your outdoor adventures, with an illumination range of up to 50 metres while settling on a telescopic pole that can reach 3.8 metres high.

DT4x4 says you will feel like you are in your home away from home when travelling with this light as it comes with a dimmer switch to select brightness of 25 percent, 50 percent or 100 percent, and can be switched between white and amber colour options.   For those that are a bit more daring and find themselves occasionally stuck, reliable recovery gear is an absolute must-have.

The latest addition to the DT4x4 Recovery Range is the Kinetic Recovery Rope (DT-KRR11).

The Kinetic Rope is a lightweight, nine metre, braided rope which offers a high degree of stretch, allowing a safe recovery without huge shock loading on the vehicle and boasts an 11,000kg minimum breaking strength and maximum elongation of 30 percent.

COVER STORY
6 Australian Automotive Aftermarket Magazine Annual 4WD Magazine 2023

Continuing with its leap into the future of lightweight recovery equipment, DT4x4 has also launched three new products directly replacing heavy steel shackles, snatch blocks and hitches with light-weight synthetic rope and alloy components.

The Soft Shackle Recovery Hitch (DT-SSRECH) and Recovery Ring (DT-RRING) are both machined from 6061 aluminium alloy, with an impressive 5,000kg working load limit for the Hitch and 12,500kg for the Ring.

Impressive in its own right, the Soft Shackle features a 15,000kg minimum breaking strength with a 12 strand UHMWPE fibre rope that floats on water.

DT4x4 also recently refreshed its recovery gear range including Recovery Hitch 4.7 Tonne (DTRECH), 11 and 8 Tonne Snatch Strap (DT-SS11 and DT-SS8), Five Tonne Winch Extension Strap (DT-WES) and Tree Truck Protector with Winch Extension Rope (DT-TTP).

It explains the range was refreshed to meet the latest style and features and is suitable for winch recovery, two vehicle recovery and offroad recovery on sand, mud, or rocks. The range features rated recovery gear, protective covers, and reinforced eyelets.

When it comes to evolving its range, DT4x4 Accessories Product Manager, Renato Russoniello, says the brand can stay ahead and release innovative products that help meet and exceed the needs of 4WD drivers because the brand is built by 4x4 enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

This is evident in its previously released products, the DT 4x4 Dual Speed Winch (DT-D9500SR & DTD12000SR), which was a finalist for the AAAA 2019 Innovative 4x4 Product award and its patented, DT4x4 200W Wind Generator (DT-WG200).

DT4x4 says its 200W Wind Generator is like no other as the generator is fitted with a patented permanent magnet rotor alternator, with a unique stator design that efficiently decreases resistance torque of the generator. The wind turbines are

profile it is a great upgrade to your charging system, allowing you to future proof your charging needs. With the ability to charge both 12 and 24V systems and all battery chemistries, the new regulator enables optimum system charging. As the regulator cleans the power and produces a more consistent output over time, this increases the overall batteries health.

With everything you need to keep an eye on your battery’s state of charge and monitor your complete solar system, this is a great addition to the DT4x4 range.

DT4x4’s innovation continues with the release of its Ultra Slim Six Way and 10 Way Touch Switch Control Panels (DT-SWP06 and DT-SWP10).

The compact slim line design is easy to install and comes with a one metre USB cable to connect to the remote-control box.

The Touch Switch Control Panels are one of the only in the market to be controlled not only manually, but via Bluetooth on both Android and iOS phones.

Renato says that unlike others in the market, the DT4x4 Touch Switch Control Panels are extremely competitively priced and are expandable with the

“The great thing about these switches is that they can be used for your lights, fridges and stereos, but also car horns as each switch can be programmed

to be momentary with the easy flick of a button,” Renato said.

DT4x4 says the Touch Switch Control Panels are perfect for any 4x4 application as they are IP67 rated for added protection and have backlight illumination for easy night-time use.

Also in the DT4x4 accessories range is the new Heavy-Duty Battery Box (DT-02008), which the brand says is an absolute game changer in the 4x4 space.

With its high impact PPE battery casing, opposed to the flimsy materials of standard battery boxes, DT4x4 says this portable battery box will withstand all weekend adventures.

Designed in Australia with the 12V caravan, camping and 4WD market in mind, the DT4x4 Battery Box allows you to mount your DC-DC charger on top with a dedicated groove, or inside the top cover, with ample space allowed for the battery underneath – a small tweak that will be welcomed by 4WDers who have put up with awkwardly balancing their DC-DC chargers on competitor models.

Big enough to take a 120Ah AGM deep cycle battery, it features internal battery strap mounts to keep the battery secure, and a separate mounting tray making it easy to remove so you have a portable power supply should you need to power additional devices at the campsite.

The battery box can connect to 12V accessories, and included are two recessed 50A Anderson style connectors, which can be used to charge the battery via your DC-DC or solar and power your fridge. The ever-expanding DT4x4 (formally Drivetech4x4) range is available through Repco, NAPA Auto Parts and authorised dealers nationally.

With more than 20 years of Australian heritage and servicing the 4WD market with quality products, DT4x4 says that with its products, you can go “Steeper. Deeper. Further. on any terrain with confidence.”

TAG TOWBARS AND TOWING ACCESSORIES

The company says it is continuously adding to its range

TAG says it is the expert in towbars and towing accessories, designing and manufacturing towbars in Australia for more than 40 years.

It says its facility in Queensland is the home of towbar development and production with distribution centres in all States.

Further, TAG towing says it has “the largest range of towbars and wiring solutions that cover over 90 percent of vehicles on the road in Australia.”

TAG Tow Ball Mounts are manufactured using solid steel, are CNC milled and robotically welded for precision and consistency.

They are designed to accompany the TAG Heavy Duty Towbar, fitting a 50mm Square Hitch Receiver and available in multiple drop/rise or adjustable configurations.

ONBOARD CHARGING FOR YOUR LEISURE BATTERY

CTEK says it has the solution you need

DC/DC chargers, also sometimes referred to as onboard chargers, are a great way to charge leisure batteries safely and efficiently from the power of a vehicle’s alternator or solar panel, or a combination of both.

The benefit of a DC/DC charger is that it converts the output from the primary battery or solar panel and charges the secondary battery using optimal charging.

CTEK says a reason to encourage customers to invest in a DC/DC charger instead of a traditional relay charger is that generally their vehicle battery is a lead acid battery, so the alternator will be designed to charge a lead acid battery. Meanwhile, the charging profile to charge the leisure battery is different. The DC/DC charger can be programmed to whatever type of leisure battery the 4WD may have and to what the charging requirements are.

It can also maximise charging to 100 percent and condition the battery to increase its lifespan – an important attribute if the customer is planning to travel remotely.

There are many important factors to consider when selecting a battery-to-battery charger to install, such as how quickly the leisure battery recharges and how it can do so safely.

safely and reliably. It takes power from the vehicle alternator as well as solar power whilst on the move.

There are two different units, both of which can work independently or together as part of a powerful system.

The D250SE is a fully automatic, five-step charger that supplies up to 20A of power to any 12V leadacid or lithium service battery from 40–300Ah. It has selectable charge algorithms for flooded, AGM and lithium batteries and can use power from both the alternator and a solar panel. It is designed for use with solar panels rated at up to 300W, as long as the voltage from the panel is no more than 23V.

All TAG Tow Ball Mounts are ADR compliant, batch marked, and powder coated for a premium, durable finish.

TAG also offers what it describes as a “huge” range of towing accessories including tow balls, hitch pins, locks, shin protectors, covers, tow ball weight scales, portable jump starters and more.

TAG also states it has “the largest range of wiring solutions in Australia,” including Plug and Play vehicle specific wire harnesses, CANBUS Wiring Solutions, Adaptor Plugs and a CANBUS Coding Tool.

TAG also offers an Extreme Recovery Towbar for 4WDs, featuring rated recovery points and a flush chassis-mounted profile, providing maximum offroad clearance for improved departure angles.

The TAG XR Towbar is available across most current 4x4 Cab Chassis vehicles such as the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-MAX, Mitsubishi Triton, Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Hilux and Landcruiser and more models are regularly added to the range.

For more information, visit www.tagtowbars.com.au

The higher the current rating of a battery-to-battery charger, the faster the leisure battery will charge. However, the current rating is limited by the battery size and type as well as alternator output.

Lithium batteries can often handle much larger charge currents than lead acid batteries, so it is important to consider the type of battery you’re charging when selecting the size of your battery-tobattery charger. CTEK says this is where it can help.

Powering

4x4 Australia Magazine

In 2022 CTEK supplied a 12-volt power system to 4x4 Australia Magazine to provide all the electric needs for its Isuzu MUX Project car.

The set-up used both a CTEK D250SE and a CTEK Smartpass 120S unit to give strong charge to the Century Lithium Pro battery while isolating the C starter battery from accessories current draw.

The D250SE is a 20amp DC-DC charger, but by partnering it with the Smartpass, the charging output is boosted up to 140A as required. This provided all the 12-volt power the 4x4 Australia team needed in their remote off-road adventures in the fully kitted up Isuzu.

Peace of mind

CTEK’s DC/DC onboard charging system quickly charges your service battery and distributes power

The D250SE can maintain a stable output up to 20A to vehicles fitted with smart, ECU controlled alternators and also has a temperature sensor for optimised charging, regardless of weather conditions.

It also features a starter battery maintenance function, which charges the starter battery via the solar panel when the engine is switched off. Ideal for use in campervans, particularly if they have smart alternators, the D250SE can be used standalone or with the CTEK Smartpass.

CTEK’s D250SE is also easy to fit with just four cables requiring installation. Everything is built in, so there’s no need for separate components such as diodes, VSR relays, solar regulators or battery watches, making it quick and easy to install.

The Smartpass 120S – a power management solution which distributes, controls and maximises up to 120A of power from the vehicle alternator and can also ensure that the charging of critical equipment takes priority - is also lithium compatible.

Both units can maintain a stable output to vehicles fitted with Smart ECU controlled alternators. CTEK says you can combine these two products together for a powerful and smart 140A charging and power management system.

Stinger Australia says Roadkill Sound Damping is a popular solution for reducing noise levels inside vehicles

The product, which is made of a dense but flexible material, is applied to the car’s interior surfaces, such as the doors, roof, and floor, to reduce vibrations and dampen sound.

This process effectively reduces the amount of road noise and vibrations that enter the cabin, resulting in a quieter and more comfortable ride for the driver and passengers.

Stinger Australia says Roadkill Sound Damping has become increasingly popular among car enthusiasts and professionals in recent years. It states this is due in part to its ease of installation and relatively low cost compared to other soundproofing options.

In addition, it says the product is durable and longlasting, with many users reporting a significant

improvement in their car’s sound quality even years after installation.

One of the main advantages of Roadkill Sound Damping is that it can significantly reduce road noise, which can be a major source of driver and passenger fatigue.

Road noise can also interfere with music playback and conversation, making it difficult to enjoy the ride.

By reducing the amount of noise that enters the cabin, Roadkill Sound Damping can make the driving experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

Another advantage of Roadkill Sound Damping is that it can improve the overall sound quality of the car’s audio system.

By reducing vibrations and other sources of distortion, the product can help produce cleaner and more accurate sound.

This can be particularly beneficial for music lovers and audiophiles who want to enjoy high-quality sound while on the road.

However, it is important to note that Roadkill Sound Damping is not a silver bullet for all noise and vibration issues in a car.

While it can significantly reduce road noise, it may

not eliminate all sources of unwanted sound. In addition, improper installation or application can lead to reduced effectiveness or even damage to the car’s interior.

In conclusion, Stinger Australia says Roadkill Sound Damping is a popular and effective solution for reducing noise and vibrations in cars. It states that its ease of installation, affordability, and durability make it an attractive option for anyone looking to improve their driving experience. However, it notes it is important to use the product correctly and be aware of its limitations to ensure the best possible results.

Stringer Australia says this is “a great category to add to any Automotive retail/workshop” and its team is ready to chat to you about this. For more information, email solutions@stingeraustralia.com.au

FLASHLUBE RANGE EXPANDED

Flashlube has recently added AdBlue Diesel Exhaust Fluid to its product range

Flashlube AdBlue is a solution made up of 32.5 percent urea in demineralised water.

It works to directly benefit the environment by reducing the harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions released into the atmosphere by diesel fuel by up to 90 percent.

Added to the dedicated AdBlue tank present in vehicles with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, Flashlube AdBlue is released into the exhaust pipe in a measured dose.

There it reacts with nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gasses before being burned at very high temperatures via the catalytic converter, essentially breaking down into harmless nitrogen and water molecules.

THE NEW RYCO RCC360 CATCH CAN

The Ryco engineering team says it is constantly striving to make innovative improvements to its range

Since releasing its first Catch Can, Ryco says it has constantly been studying the market and improving its product offering.

The New Ryco RCC360 Catch Can is said to be a culmination of the advances in technology, customer feedback and technical knowledge, providing 4x4 owners with the confidence that when they push their 4x4 to the limit, it will “be Ryco Ready.”

The New RCC360 Catch Can has some great new features but also includes everything that was great about the preceding RCC351:

• Internal Bypass

• Service indicator to show you when it is time to change your filter

• Upper outlet position to prevent contamination returning into the engine

• Removes contaminants down to one micron in size from crankcase emissions

• Suitable for petrol and turbo diesel engines with positive and negative crankcase ventilation

• Increased efficiency and lower restriction with larger filter element

• No external relief valve, no leaks when the unit is full or has a blocked filter

• Flexible 360-degree mounting – extending the range and orientation of mounting options

• Larger 12mm diameter drain hose connected to a quick connect fitting for convenience (increased from 8mm to 12mm)

• Simpler, more robust and higher flowing drain ‘tap’ with quick connect plug

• Improved serviceability utilising quick connect elbow fitting which enables quick disconnection and 360-degree swivelling

• 290ml sump capacity for longer drain intervals

• Tested to ISO17536 and Ryco Specification

Unique Ryco Catch Can Service Indicator

Ryco says it has made maintenance simple by incorporating a service indicator, enhancing the user experience by providing more visibility to the customer on service intervals for servicing and filter element replacement.

Along the journey, Ryco says it has learned that every vehicle and driver combination is different, and you cannot predict the blowby that each individual vehicle will produce, and this is why it has incorporated the new Service Indicator. When the service indicator continues to be raised after compression, it is time to replace the filter element. The filter element for the new RCC360 Catch Can, is the new Ryco RCC160F.

The RCC360 drain system

The RCC360 Catch Can drain has been designed to be simple, robust and offer high flow and good sealing. Key features include the following:

• Quick connects allow the drain hose to be disconnected from the Catch Can if the unit needs to be removed from the vehicle.

• Larger diameter 12mm hose provides faster draining.

• Transparent hose allows the user to easily see how much oil is left in the system to drain.

• Simple quick connect plugs provide an excellent seal and simple operation.

It is then released as steam from the tail pipe, significantly reducing the NOx particles entering the atmosphere through exhaust emission.

AdBlue is commonly used in truck and bus applications, where it assists the vehicle in meeting Euro 6 emissions standards, which regulate the level of harmful exhaust emissions.

It is also becoming increasingly common in latemodel diesel vehicles produced by a growing number of manufacturers including Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Renault, Citroen, BMW, Audi, Land Rover and Mercedes.

Flashlube AdBlue is available in one, five and 20L bottles.

For more information, visit www.flashlube.com

TS17

To drain, just pinch the buttons and remove the plug just like a regular quick connect connection, then push the plug back onto the quick connector once the system is draining.

RCC360K Universal Catch Can Kit

The RCC360K Kit comes complete with all the necessary filters, brackets and connectors to complete the installation (except PCV Hoses). Additional accessories (sold separately)

Ryco invites you to further enhance your 4x4 experience with additional accessories sold separately, including Universal Fuel Water Separators, Replacement Filters, Straight Hose Fitting Twin Packs (19mm ID and 16mm ID), Elbow Hose Fitting Twin Packs (16mm and 19mm ID) and PCV hoses and joiners.

LOOKING FOR DPF REFILL FLUIDS?

GCG Turbochargers warns: don’t choose cheap GCG Turbochargers is the Australian and New Zealand distributor of the JLM Lubricants’ product range.

The company, together with Darren Darling, the founder of the Independent DPF Doctor Network – which is growing rapidly in Australia after a successful launch in 2022 – are teaming up to warn against the pit falls of cheap DPF refill fluids.

They say that research has shown that to save money, some Aussie motorists are using “cheap as chips” DPF Refill Fluids.

However, Darren outlines that it is proving to be a false economy, storing up major problems for the DPF.

“We’ve seen an increase in problems caused by inferior quality DPF fluids due to little or no active ingredients,” Darren said.

“By data logging cars during regeneration, we’ve noticed abnormal behaviour.

“DPF Additive Fluid is a Fuel Borne Catalyst used on numerous vehicles including Peugeot, Citroen, Toyota, VW, Fiat, Mini, Jaguar, Mazda, Ford, and

Volvo to lower the burn temperature of soot in the exhaust.

“In turn this reduces the timescale necessary for a successful DPF regeneration.

“Without the correct amount of active ingredients (FBC) in the DPF Fluid, the DPF system cannot function correctly.

“This leads to premature blocking of the DPF, increased MPG, and in some cases, a damaged DPF.

“As DPF specialists, we only use products that either meet or exceed OE specifications.

“JLM Lubricants’ DPF Refill Fluid is the only product that makes it into our workshop.”

“The market is flooded with cheap DPF Refill Fluid products which upon independent third-party testing demonstrate that the active ingredients are in such a small quantity they do nothing to aid the regeneration of the DPF,” JLM Chief Executive Officer, Gilbert Groot, said.

“In fact, long term use of these products can cause the DPF to become damaged beyond repair.

NEW EXHAUST KIT FOR FORD RANGER

From Outlaw Performance Exhaust

Outlaw Performance Exhaust has released a side exit sports system for the new Next Gen Ranger.

If you are looking for something different to offer your customers, Mercury Mufflers says you should look no further than Mercury Mufflers’ Outlaw branded Ford Ranger exhaust system kit.

Mercury Mufflers explains that this innovative kit includes an intermediate pipe, inline resonator pipe, tailpipe assembly, and a full fitting kit, all designed to improve the performance and sound of your truck.

The intermediate pipe is manufactured from 3.1/2” S409 Stainless Tube, painted in a high temperature Satin Black finish, and flows straight from the DPF. It includes the 10mm tube to

reconnect the emissions sensor, ensuring the emissions system remains intact.

Mercury Mufflers says the inline resonator pipe features a unique design that improves the flow of exhaust gasses and sound waves when compared to traditional muffler or resonator installations. As standard, the kit includes a resonator delete pipe for enthusiasts looking for maximum flow and sound.

The tailpipe assembly is another critical part of the exhaust system, and the FORD08SS kit comes with a Mandrel Bent three-inch S409 tube tailpipe that connects to the Resonator Pipe with a single bolt clamp.

Customers can also upgrade to a side exit tailpipe

“They con the mechanic and the motorist into believing they’ve done the right thing topping up with them.

“The JLM Lubricants DPF Refill Fluid contains the highest percentage possible of active ingredients.” For more information, please contact JLM Australia on 02 9133 3855 or sales@jlmlubricants.com.au or visit www.jlmlubricants.com/en-au

with dual polished 304 Stainless Steel outlets, easily interchanged with the existing tailpipe by releasing the single bolt clamp.

The FORD08SS kit comes with a full fitting kit, including high-quality gaskets and all hardware required for installation. Replacement parts, including rubber mounts, are carried at all Mercury Mufflers branches nationwide.

Mercury Mufflers says the Outlaw exhaust kit is a must-have for 4WD enthusiasts looking to enhance their vehicle’s performance and sound. With durable and high-performance components, easy installation, and optional upgrades, Mercury Mufflers says it makes an outstanding addition to any Ford Ranger.

Whether you’re seeking increased power and fuel efficiency or an aggressive sound, Mercury Mufflers says its FORD08SS kit “is the ideal choice.”

DONALDSON FILTERS HEAVY DUTY AIR CLEANER

Available from Western Filters

Western Filters says that to date, Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series owners have suffered with finding dust on the clean side of their original panel air filter.

It states there has been a number of fixes people have come up with to try and fix the problem, but “Donaldson Filters have not only solved the problem but have also massively increased the air flow to the engine and the filter’s service life.”

Air intake systems play a critical role in delivering a good, clean supply of air to the engine. Improper filtration systems can lead to increased fuel consumption, excessive engine damage and unscheduled servicing.

Western Filters says the robust, compact Air

Cleaner Housing and Filter Kit from Donaldson is equipped with everything you need to protect your vehicle from contaminants that can cause damage to your engine.

Designed using Donaldson proprietary filtration technology, the XLC200K Air Cleaner Housing reportedly incorporates the latest in air filtration technology, delivering high efficiency filtration, resulting in superior protection and performance.

The XLC200K offers high efficiency filtration in a single, compact unit delivering superior protection and performance. Featuring genuine PowerCore construction using Ultra-Web media, Western Filters says Donaldson has engineered the “ultimate air filter housing.”

PowerCore media features a unique corrugated design which creates a straight-through air-flow path to trap dust in the flutes on the dirty side of the air filter. This innovative design pushes air through to the adjacent flutes on the clean side; delivering clean air to your engine.

In addition, Western Filters says with three-times more effective filtration area than the OEM panel filter, Donaldson’s PowerCore 4x4 filters deliver

more than 30 percent lower initial restriction at the same airflows, allowing your engine to breathe easy while keeping contaminants out.

DO YOU HATE 4WDS WITH DPF ISSUES?

Exhaust Clean Australia says it has the answer

Exhaust Clean Australia says it offers the ultimate emissions cleaning solutions for DPFs, SCRs, EGRs, intake manifolds, intercoolers and EGR coolers. Most vehicles that frequent Exhaust Clean Australia are 4WDs and it reports that a lot of vehicle owners are not aware of how a DPF operates and what external factors influence how a DPF completes regenerations successfully.

Early intervention can save a fortune down the track in having to replace expensive components and large repair bills.

Exhaust Clean Australia notes that the majority of 4WDs these days require some degree of electronic reset once an oil and filter change are completed. In the absence of completing the necessary resets electronically and with the overfilling of oil, Exhaust

Clean Australia reports it has seen many a vehicle come to its team with owners in a frantic state thinking they’ve got a major DPF problem. When it comes to diagnosing a DPF issue, Exhaust Clean Australia says checking for boost leaks is number one, and an easy process.

A scan tool won’t always tell you that the vehicle has a boost leak unless you are conversant with what faults codes may be apparent for the issue, but a simple visual check of hoses, looking for signs of oil vapour on hoses, clamps and intercoolers is a good place to start. However, some may be harder to find and might require smoke testing through to an in-depth diagnosis of boost levels and MAP sensor readings in live data on a road test.

Sensor failures is another staple cause of DPF issues. DPF pressure sensors, EGT sensors, MAF and MAP sensors right through to EGR sensors can all cause mayhem on the DPF and can easily be overlooked if the correct diagnostic process is not adhered to.

A blocked DPF can also be an early sign of a more sinister engine issue. Symptoms of badly worn or leaking injectors, excessive engine wear causing high crankcase and blow by issues can all make the DPF unhappy.

Exhaust Clean Australia says it has seen many

vehicles where this scenario is commonplace and while some can be salvaged, others are destined for hefty engine rebuilding repair bills.

At the end of the day, Exhaust Clean Australia says you should not be too quick to hit the forced regeneration button on the scan tool and send the customer on their way.

Instead, it recommends the development of a diagnostic process which you stick to no matter what the vehicle exhibits problem-wise.

Finding the cause of the DPF issue and then rectifying the effect of a blocked DPF will make for many a happy customer who isn’t going to be back every month with a light back on the dash again, says Exhaust Clean Australia.

Exhaust Clean Australia offers a complete cleaning solution of emissions systems, new aftermarket units, and cleaned/tested second hand DPFs, as well as over the phone advice.

ARB REAR BARS AND WHEEL CARRIERS

Providing additional functionality while delivering high quality vehicle protection

ARB offers a range of rear bars, incorporating wheel carriers and jerry can holders.

4WDs with the spare tyre mounted on the back door can suffer from unnecessary door assembly stress, while a spare wheel located underneath a vehicle can be difficult to access, be more prone to damage and may affect ground clearance when driving off road.

Both of these mounting methods can also prove unsuitable if a larger tyre size is sought.

An ARB rear bar addresses all of these issues, relocating the spare tyre onto the bumper assembly via a swing out carrier.

Key features*:

• Wheel/jerry can carriers can be optioned on either side of the rear bar on most vehicles.

• A single carrier can be fitted, or the rear bar can be installed without any carriers at all. Neat insert panels are used in this instance.

• Twin 33” or a single 35” tyre can be accommodated on most vehicles.

• Carriers are mounted via dual shear pivots for maximum strength.

• Spare tyre is secured to the stud plate with a lock nut with the provision to fit a padlock to secure the stud plate to the carrier.

• Multi fit spare wheel stud system provides flexibility for alternate rim selection.

• Wing sections can be removed and replaced if they sustain damage.

• Incorporates heavy duty towing system, or integration with original equipment tow point on some models.

• Dual, laminated towing points and Hi-Lift jacking points.

• Extruded alloy step section.

• Supplied in a durable powder coat finish with optional colour coding available.

• Provision to mount an optional HF aerial bracket and camp light.

Rear Bar

Not all vehicles require tyre carriers and jerry can holders. ARB says a rear bar alone provides greatly improved protection, versatility and vehicle access.

Vehicle specific design ensures excellent ground

clearance and departure angles along with a stylish and adventurous look for your 4x4. Manufactured from steel for maximum strength, an ARB rear bar features a centre recess to accommodate various sized tyres (mounted on factory tyre carriers) along with dual Hi-Lift jacking points and a low slip tread to facilitate easy access to both the roof and inside of the vehicle. RIVAL 4X4 AUSTRALIA NOW HERE

Pioneering bumper style bullbars

Rival 4x4 says it became famous in Australia about a decade ago when it pioneered the “bumper style” bullbar for utes and four-wheel-drive wagons.

Utilising advanced manufacturing techniques, Rival says it has been able to manufacture unique products suited to the demand of Aussie offroaders and tourers alike.

In addition, the Rival 4x4 skid plate kits have proven to be hugely popular, being built from deep stamped 6mm alloy which keeps strength up and weight down.

Key features and benefits:

• Crash tested and ADR69 compliant: every Rival Aluminium Bumper is crash tested to ensure all factory safety systems are not impacted. Rival bumpers provide increased strength and safety without the added weight of a heavy steel bullbar.

• Functional: Rival Aluminium Bumpers are compatible with most three-inch auxiliary fog/ driving lights. The majority of Rival’s bumpers come standard with integrated winch mount and recovery points.

• Easy to install: Rival Aluminium Bumpers are designed to require minimal cutting or modification to your vehicle for OEM-style fit and finish and ease of installation.

• Precise manufacturing: high-quality laser cut Rival skid plates are made from deep stamped aluminium.

BLACKHAWK 4X4 UPPER CONTROL ARMS

Optimally suited to 4WD vehicles which have been lifted by 30-70mm

Blackhawk4x4 says it has designed a precision engineered Upper Control Arm bolt-in system to suit a wide range of 4WD vehicles being driven on and off Australian roads.

Blackhawk4x4 explains that well-designed Upper Control Arms as a bolt-in system have five key points that make them worth the investment for the fitter and the end customer.

• They take the factory ball joint and rubber bushing, for longevity.

• Will give you a caster and camber improvement, for 30-70mm lifts.

• Reprofiled arms for clearance with larger tyre diameters.

• Shock and strut clearance to allow more wheel travel, up and down.

• Angled ball joint cup to work with the extra travel.

Blackhawk4x4 says that when your customer drives away with the wheel alignment set to improve handling, steering response, and tyre wear, compared to being outside of the factory alignment setting, they will be far happier as opposed to just telling the customer that “it drives ok,” stating the results will speak for themselves while giving you one very happy customer.

By being equipped with the right Upper Control Arm replacement information, Blackhawk4x4 says you

will be able to detail all of the features and benefits that enable your customer to make an informed decision, based on your technical experience. Blackhawk4x4 explains that it provides all this information to the trade.

The heavy duty Blackhawk4x4 range of Upper Control Arms have been designed with ease of fitment and ongoing serviceability in mind. The company says these replacement suspension components are a necessity for various IFS models that have been lifted by 30mm or more.

The Upper Control Arms restore camber and caster lost on IFS vehicles once they have been lifted, by correcting the position of the Ball Joint. Without restored camber and caster settings, Blackhawk4x4 explains that lifted IFS vehicles will eventually show excessive tyre wear and experience both ride and steering issues.

With greater radius and tube sizing to suit each specific 4WD application, the designs allow clearance of the coils during articulation, with the outer radius also adjusted to allow for the fitment (in some cases) of 35” tyres without having the issue of the tyres rubbing on the arms with full lock applied steering.

All Blackhawk4x4 Upper Control Arms are manufactured with Heavy Duty 32mm OD (6mm wall thickness) STKM11A Carbon Steel DOM

4x4 Specialist workshops can apply to become a Rival 4x4 Dealer through the Rival website at www. rival4x4.com.au and can access the range through the B2B real-time online ordering portal. For more information on becoming a Rival Dealer, visit www.rival4x4.com.au or call 07 4661 1780.

Tube for optimum strength and minimal additional onboard weight.

Blackhawk4x4 explains that the design of its Upper Control Arms is not complicated, with the Ball Joint and Bushing apertures designed to take OE specification componentry. This ensures that if you have a Ball Joint or Bushing issue in an out of the way area, where locating spares can be a problem, you can replace your affected part with a standard OE specification factory or aftermarket unit.

Blackhawk4x4 states its Upper Control Arms are designed with caster and camber improvements and are optimally suited to 4WD vehicles lifted by 30-70mm. They have been finished in black E-Coating for maximum durability, rust prevention and discreet installation.

Further, it says engineering of the Blackhawk4x4

Upper Control Arms is a breeze with all the engineering documentation available for a quick, easy, street legal process.

RAW 4X4 PRE-ASSEMBLED STRUTS

For less time in the workshop and more time off-road Raw 4x4 says the installation of front suspension is made safer and simpler for installers with its range of pre-assembled struts.

It explains that the strut top hat, polyurethane bushes and coil spring of choice come preassembled and ready to install without the need for a spring compressor in the workshop; reducing the time and risk involved in compressing the coil spring and fitting it over the strut.

Raw 4x4 states that for most vehicles seven years and older, a pre-assembled strut option is highly recommended, providing complete replacement of all components; greatly improving ride control and handling.

The company warns that wear and tear to the top rubber mounting bushes can lead to fitment and noise issues if they are re-used and not replaced. Worn struts and shocks no longer effectively absorb road impacts which not only creates an uncomfortable driving experience but can lead to unusual tyre wear (cupping) and a myriad of ride control issues.

Designed and developed in Australia, Raw Nitro,

Nitro Max and Predator struts are available as preassembled units for an extensive range of common models across Ford, Foton, Holden, Isuzu, LDV, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota.

Raw 4x4 says its engineering team is dedicated to researching and developing shock absorbers and suspension components using some of the most advanced testing facilities in Australia, including one of the largest dynamometers in the country, to accurately measure the dampening capabilities of a shock absorber.

It says extensive testing is carried out in the Raw 4x4 facility, based in Beresfield, New South Wales, to replicate some of the harshest 4WDriving conditions, which is also backed by tests performed on Australia’s diversified road and climatic conditions.

Raw 4x4 says the combination of lab and real-world testing ensures “the highest level of quality and performance is achieved for the best combination of comfort and control.”

Raw 4x4 states that it does not believe in the one size fits all approach to suspension.

NEW FROM ECB

A range of new products are available for recently released vehicles, from East Coast Bullbars

East Coast Bullbars, a leading Australian manufacturer of alloy frontal protection products, says it is excited to offer a range of new products to suit recently released vehicles, including the all-new Ford Ranger, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Hyundai Staria/iLoad.

New product releases include the all-new Single Hoop Winch Bar to suit the LandCruiser 300 Series and Ford Ranger, as well as several updated Nudge Bars that offer an increased level of protection.

Nudge Bars now include a lower strut bar or boxed cross bar additions for increased vehicle protection. ECB explains they have become a standard edition, as well as optional-integrated Narva LED Light Bars on some models. This allows additional lighting without impeding OEM safety features like grille mounted AEB sensors.

Every Bullbar and Nudge Bar is specifically engineered at ECB’s product development facility in Clontarf in Queensland.

At this facility, ECB says there is a focus on lighteralloy products that save weight yet offer the same level of protection over steel alternatives while

reducing vehicle operating costs and contributing to vehicle longevity.

It states that the heavier your vehicle is, the harder your vehicle must work to accelerate more mass and maintain the weight at speed, therefore costing more to run while also affecting braking distance, contributing to brake wear. ECB says that its alloy East Coast Bullbars average only 42kg in weight.

In addition to the fuel savings, ECB says the reduction of weight from adding an Alloy Bullbar eliminates the need for a costly suspension upgrade.

It says this is beneficial to any vehicle owner that would like to maintain the original handling characteristics of their vehicle.

In addition, many small-to-medium SUVs on the market lack commercially available upgrade kits. ECB explains it covers car and SUV models most Bullbar manufacturers don’t make frontal protection products for. And in addition to Australia’s most popular SUVs, ECB has frontal protection to suit hybrids and PHEVs.

ECB says heavy bullbars are the enemy of any

vehicle and shedding as little as 25kg can add up fast in fuel savings and reduced operating and maintenance costs over the life of the vehicle.

ECB says it is proud to be reinvesting in Australian manufacturing, with its Clontarf, Queensland manufacturing facility employing more than 100 people, which it says makes it the largest private employer on the Moreton Peninsula.

ECB has recently installed upgraded factory machinery including new brake presses, and a state-of-the-art laser cutter for more exacting and finished cuts, new powder-coat finishes, and new products that keep Australians working and producing products.

CALOFFROAD EXPANDS UNDER COOLDRIVE

The majority of the most popular four-wheel-drives and SUVs in Australia are now covered Since becoming an official member of the CoolDrive Auto Parts family in 2022, leading suspension company CalOffroad is reportedly going from strength to strength under the ongoing vision and direction of its founder, Cal Goodman.

CalOffroad offers a comprehensive range of offroad suspension products, including lift kits and accessories, and under the CoolDrive banner, this range is expanding to now cover the majority of the most popular four-wheel-drives and SUVs in Australia.

“For over 30 years, CalOffroad has been developing and producing the most advanced, highestperforming 4x4 and offroad suspension systems available in Australia, and anywhere in the world,” Cal said.

“My experience with offroad suspension and vehicle development began in the 1980s when I was racing snowboards and living in the United States, where I spent many years at the forefront of offroad suspension and vehicle development.

“During this time overseas, I identified that the Australian market was well behind in style and overall design of offroad suspension products, and I knew I could make a difference to outdoor enthusiasts here – and so began the CalOffroad journey.

“One of the biggest differentiating factors of CalOffroad products occurs during the development phase, where our products are tested and pushed to the limits at our own private offroad testing areas, so we can identify when they perform best and where they can improve.

“CalOffroad also has a history of design and manufacture for military applications using high grade aerospace technology and materials, which allows us to develop components that we can use in everyday vehicle applications.”

Providing “the ultimate” off-road ride over any terrain – from potholes and corrugations to long stretches of gravel or dirt at speed, CalOffroad shock absorbers are designed for the harshest Australian conditions.

CoolDrive Auto Parts states that products are available for the most popular offroad vehicles in Australia including the Ford Ranger, Holden Colorado, Isuzu D-MAX and MUX, Jeep Wrangler, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and Patrol, Toyota HiLux and LandCruiser and the Volkswagen Amarok.

CalOffroad is also an Australian importer for a number of high-end offroad suspension brands and is a direct importer of leading suspension brand Fox Shocks as well as a major distributor for Bilstein.

CONQUERING CORRUGATIONS

Outback Armour says its Digressive shock absorber range is the answer

In an unforgiving wilderness, ten and a half thousand kilometres from Australia, sits a dry and dusty African plain.

Upon that plain are dotted the remains of broken and abandoned vehicles unable to withstand the relentless battering of driving.

“There are no roads there!” Outback Armour Head of Engineering, Steven Persson, said.

“That place destroys vehicles, rattles ‘em to bits… but I knew if we could make suspension that not only survived, but that thrived in that environment, I knew we’d have something special to share with the rest of the world!”

The new Outback Armour Digressive shock absorber range, or DSVs as the company calls them, are that “something special.”

Outback Armour says one of the most significant benefits of the DSVs is their use of Digressive Valving technology.

It says this innovative in-house engineered design allows for a smoother ride without compromising on handling or stability, making this shock choice not only ideal for terrain that rattles vehicles to bits

like the plains of Africa, but also excellent for the off-road applications and unpredictability of the Australian Outback.

“This magazine is not just for enthusiasts or the 79 series Mall crawler owner that winces at the site of dust, this publication is for industry insiders, the heart and soul of a flourishing aftermarket accessory business, so we’ll go light on the marketing gobbledygook and give you the inner workings of our newest shocks…you’ll have to forgive us for stealing from the 79 series crowd though when we say…these shocks are a game changer!” Steven said.

“Let us break it down for you – the DSV valving is particularly effective because of its progressively smaller valve passages within the 65mm body of the shock.

“This unique valve tuning allows for a more controlled oil flow as the shock absorber is compressed, and at higher speeds over continued corrugations, the DSV self regulates this oil flow automatically adjusting to offer a balance of control, comfort and performance.

“This shock has been described as beautiful…

“At CalOffroad, we want our customers to be able to purchase our quality suspension products for any vehicle, whether it be an entry-level shock absorber right through to high-end components, all while benefitting from market-leading quality and service from a name they can trust,” Cal said.

“CalOffroad is a very personal brand, and we make sure our customers know they are receiving something special.

LIQUI MOLY GEAR OILS

BENDIX BRAKE MODS FOR 4X4S

Regular maintenance is key to

keeping 4WDs reliable and performing at their peak

A major part of maintaining a healthy 4WD is gear and differential oils. Liqui Moly says it understands this importance and has developed a range of highperforming driveline oils to suit many of today’s 4WDs.

Developed and made in Germany, Liqui Moly gear oils are designed for maximum service life and running efficiency.

It says they meet the most extreme requirements and are designed to reduce friction and wear, whilst maintaining optimum viscosity at high temperatures.

Liqui Moly’s High Performance GL4+ Gear Oil 75W90 is one of the top oils for use in 4WDs and is a staple of the range.

Used wherever a 75W-90 GL4 fluid is specified, this fully synthetic oil ensures exact friction behavior and outstanding resistance to ageing.

Bendix has a range of products available for 4x4s with bigger tyres

For avid off roaders, there are several good reasons to upgrade to larger tyres, as the capability of the vehicle will increase in most four-wheel driving situations.

One thing that’s often overlooked when opting for a larger wheel and tyre package is how this modification will affect the vehicle’s braking performance.

All states and territories have rules limiting the size increase of tyres and wheels, with reduced braking performance being the main concern.

As a general guide, if you increase the radius of your wheel and tyre combination by 10 percent, the amount of extra braking force needed to safely bring the vehicle to a halt will also be around 10 per cent.

Another consideration is the added inertia (rotating mass) that comes into play with larger wheels and tyres, which inevitably will be heavier than the OEM package.

Upgraded pads

Having fitted bigger tyres, the easiest and most cost-effective starting point to improving braking performance is to invest in upgraded brake pads, such as Bendix’s Ultimate 4WD Disc Brake Pads. These pads are engineered for extreme conditions and hardworking 4WD applications and also feature Bendix’s premium Mechanical Retention System (MRS) for improved pad attachment strength, and a high-tech ceramic formulation for low dust and noise.

Braided brake lines

Liqui Moly says it exceeds the test requirements demanded by renowned manufacturers and is recommended for many transfer cases, transmissions, and differentials in vehicles from Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Volkswagen, Ford and many more.

Whilst only one example from the Liqui Moly range, there are many more high-performance gear, transmission, and differential oils to choose from covering all major 4WDs in both heavy and light duty applications.

Liqui Moly states that its oils come with multiple manufacturer approvals to ensure maximum compatibility and reliability, however users should always check manufacturer specifications and the Liqui Moly lube guide to decipher the right oils to use.

For more information and to view the full range and lube guide visit, www.liqui-moly.com.au

Another simple braking upgrade is to replace the OEM brake hoses with braided variants. Bendix explains that its Ultimate 4WD Brake Hoses feature PTFE (Teflon) tubing that is wrapped in woven stainless steel 304 braid. It says this tough construction means they won’t expand under high pressure, ensuring a firm and responsive pedal feel.

Disc/drum upgrade

The next level in recouping and even improving factory braking performance is to upgrade the disc brake rotors or drum brakes.

Bendix says its Ultimate 4WD Brake Drum Upgrade Kit features High Carbon Metallurgy, SwiftFit protective zinc coating and Epoxy Coated Hub, leading to increased stopping power, added durability and increased aesthetics.

Bendix has also recently launched a standalone range of four-wheel drive performance disc brake rotors, to further increase braking performance.

Upgrade kits – all the gear in the convenience of a kit

Bendix’s Ultimate 4WD Brake Upgrade Kit combines diamond tip slot Ultimate 4WD Disc Brake Rotors,

a set of Ultimate 4WD Brake Pads, Ultimate 4WD Brake Hoses and ancillary products such as Heavy Duty Brake Fluid, Ceramasil Brake Parts Lubricant, Rotor Wipes and more, delivering all the benefits of these individual components with the convenience and cost effectiveness of a single kit.

Big brake upgrade with drum to disc conversion kits For even more serious braking performance, Bendix offers its Ultimate 4WD Big Brake Upgrade Kits; a comprehensive package that includes larger diamond tip slot front rotors, powerful sixpiston front calipers (front kit), a rear drum to disc conversion and all the associated parts required to complete the work (rear kit), along with Ultimate 4WD Brake Pads, Ultimate Brake Hoses and the ancillary products mentioned in the standard Ultimate 4WD Brake Upgrade Kit.

Bendix explains these kits are 100 percent legal and comply with ADRs. Some legal variances from state to state will mean that in certain locations (VIC, NSW, ACT, SA and TAS), an engineering inspection will be required to ensure the kits have been installed properly and are functioning correctly, after which a mod plate will be issued. For owners in QLD and WA, Bendix have a preauthorised LG1 certificate, and all that’s required after fitment is to advise the registration authority of the installation.

For Kiwi buyers, the New Zealand registration authority (NZTA) recognises ADR master reports for vehicles that are to be used on New Zealand roads. The compliance process is similar to VIC, NSW, SA and Tas, so a vehicle that’s fitted with either front or rear (or both) Ultimate Big Brake Upgrade Kits will require a Low Volume Vehicle Certification (LVVC).

Brake booster upgrade

If even greater stopping power is needed, Bendix offers its ADR-approved Ultimate 4WD Brake Booster Upgrade, which it says can deliver up to 30 percent greater stopping power, thanks to its dual diaphragm design which reportedly significantly reduces pedal effort.

PENRITE SOLVES GEAR OIL PROBLEMS

Following market research, the Australian oil company has developed new and innovative applications

Penrite Oil says it has been the name synonymous with quality products since 1926. A leader in supplying quality lubricants, coolants and additives, Penrite offers an extensive range of driveline products to suit all types of 4WDs and SUVs for both new and older vehicles.

Driveline fluids are often neglected during servicing, but are as essential as engine oils for protecting gearboxes, transaxles, transfer cases and differentials in vehicles. They provide extreme pressure protection, wear protection, hydraulic pressure, lubrication, heat transfer, friction reduction, noise reduction, driver assistance and cleanliness.

Penrite says its gear oil range set new standards

for drivetrain lubricants when it was launched a decade ago.

Penrite researched the market, developed, trialled and then consolidated two product ranges into one, where one product would cover all of the applications previously performed by two separate products.

Penrite says not only did it accomplish this with the most popular viscosity grade (80W-90) but also with 85W-140 and straight 140 grades, creating three products that took the confusion out of which type of product to use where a GL-5 gear oil was required:

• Penrite Gear Oil 80W-90 consolidated and replaced Hypoid 80W-90 and Limslip 90 Gear Oils.

• Penrite Gear Oil 85W-140 consolidated and replaced Hypoid 85W-140 and Limslip 85W140

• Penrite Gear Oil 140 consolidated and replaced Hypoid 140 and Limslip 140 Penrite says this means that essentially, three new products have replaced six existing products.

It says this eliminated the problem of misapplication and eliminated the need for customers to purchase two products with the same viscosities.

As with all lubricants, Penrite recommends using the “Right product for the Right Application.” To help customers find the right product for their application, the Penrite Product Selector Guide will advise the correct product for your application. The Product Guide is available on the Penrite Web Page – www.penriteoil.com.au – or via the Penrite Mobile Phone App as a free download from either the Apple Store or Google Play Store. The Penrite Technical Help Line is also available weekdays to assist with finding the correct product for your application.

PROTEX ULTRA 4WD BRAKING RANGE

Engineered specifically for off-road conditions and heavy-duty use

It is common to add modifications to your 4WD. Whether it be new tyres, upgraded suspension, winches, snorkels, and so on, modifications can enhance your vehicle’s personality and increase your ability to take the hard road on your adventure.

But one common mistake people make is not accounting for the added weight of these modifications and how that affects your braking ability.

Braking in 4WD is paramount. You don’t want to get to the top of a long, slippery, and treacherous climb and not have 100 percent confidence that you can safely manoeuvre the descent. You need to make sure that the brake pads are going to grip cleanly to the rotors and that the rotors continue to perform consistently, without overheating.

The extra heat and stress imposed by heavy-duty use mean that your brakes need to be in excellent condition to work flawlessly.

A fully loaded 4WD, navigating hours of steep inclines, declines, and off-road tracks can impose

an enormous amount of heat on the braking system.

The brakes that come standard on your vehicle, while perfectly suitable for everyday driving, may not be built to cope with the intense heat that often comes with towing heavy loads or navigating steep hills.

Furthermore, with most cars relying on ABS systems to control their vehicle down steep descent, the stress on your brakes can be extreme. Add to the mix half a tonne of gear and mods weighing your vehicle down, and you may find that your current braking system is inadequate. Instead of replacing, Protex says it might be wise to upgrade your existing braking system with better quality, built-for-the-job, 4WD components. Protex Ultra 4WD range is engineered specifically for off-road conditions and heavy-duty use.

The high carbon formulation and unique vane designs on Protex Ultra 4WD rotors allow for efficient cooling to give you maximum stopping power at high braking temperatures. Additionally, this thermal stability is important

when driving through water crossings, as it reduces the risk of warping the rotors.

Protex Ultra 4WD comes with a six-slot design further improving stopping power and resistance to pad glazing.

Also featured is the Protex Ultracoat Z360 coating on the 4WD rotor range ensuring that your rotors are equipped for distances with anti-corrosion protection.

Protex says that coupled with Ultra 4WD brakes pads, you will have peace of mind that your brakes are designed to withstand the challenging conditions of Australia’s tough terrain. For more information, visit www.protexparts.com.au

DRIVEABILITY KEY FOR XTREME OUTBACK SUCCESS

The brand offers an extensive range of heavy-duty upgrade clutch kits for 4x4

Australian Clutch Services (ACS) says its brand of heavy-duty clutch upgrades for 4x4, Xtreme Outback, has been at the forefront of performance clutch upgrade design for over two decades and is now a major supplier to both the domestic market as well as throughout Europe.

The brand offers an extensive range of heavy-duty upgrade clutch kits for 4x4 as well as a range of hydraulics and actuation accessories.

As a division of ACS, the Xtreme Outback range has been developed in-house and is built around a focus on performance and driveability.

Xtreme Outback says this focus on driveability and its attention to detail in clutch development is a major contributor to its success in the market.

“Our performance clutch upgrades are always developed with a view to provide the best performance possible whilst keeping pedal feel, noise and vibration as close as possible to factory levels,” ACS Senior Mechanical Engineer, Stewart Furze, said.

“When we analyse a new application, we review key factory clutch data such as bearing load, clamping force and materials.

“We then work to develop a performance clutch upgrade that offers improved clamping force whilst minimising changes to driveability.”

Stewart explains this increased focus on driver comfort is even more critical in today’s automotive market.

“As cars have continued to improve their driveability and reduce the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) in the cabin, it is even more important for us to provide a performance solution that doesn’t just hit the torque figures that the market demands, but also provides this with the least changes to driveability and noise,” Stewart said.

“Luckily, as clutch technology continues to evolve, there are many ways that we can achieve this, and we are always going that extra step in our performance upgrades to produce the best results possible.

“For example, offering the best quality and highest dampening clutch disc for certain applications such as 70 series LandCruisers is critical to providing a solution that doesn’t increase transmission rollover noise.

“We analysed a number of different disc solutions when we developed our extra heavy-duty upgrades for this application and chose the disc that provided the best quality and noise characteristics.”

Alongside this focus on providing attention to detail in the clutch performance and characteristics, Xtreme Outback also focuses on developing the kit to provide critical complementary components.

“When we develop a complete kit, we are looking to provide all of the critical components that the installer may need,” Stewart said.

“We always include a new release bearing, spigot bearing and alignment tool where required and then we offer a range of different kit options to incorporate components such as flywheel, concentric slave cylinder etc as required per vehicle.

“By analysing each application to ensure we have all of the critical components covered, we are helping to reduce time that the vehicle may need to be off the road and also improving efficiency for the workshop whilst ensuring components that are commonly known to fail are replaced at the same time as the clutch kit.”
