Circulation and Movement Al ras metro station to site by car 1.2km and by walking 600m Deira old souk marine station to site by car-650m by walking-350m Dubai old souk marine station to site – 1.1 Abra station south to site – 1km by marine 5.3km drive Al ghubaiba marine station to site 1.5km Al ghubaiba metro station to site 6km The site is a 2 minute walk away from Deira old souk 1 and 2 bus stop and a 9-minute walk from Al Ras metro station The area consist of a lot of alley ways which are not very car friendly therefore encouraging most people to take a walk you a get a different experience at each alley way

Site Findings More men than women Barely any sitting areas therefor no room for interaction to give that sense of being a community

Most people that lwork there also live there in large grops and really small spaces which is a bad living condition

The different nodes have their different groups and they do not communicate with one another

Scarwafa is a small-scale cohousing project of 3 befriended young families. It has an area of 647 m² was built in the year 2016, photographed by Christian van der kooy and the architects in charge were Thomas Dieben and Oscar Vos it is located in Buiksloterham area in Amsterdam

Construction turned into aesthetics.

Floors are unfinished on both top and bottom. For this purpose, a combined wood-concrete floor was designed

There was a thin budget which demanded conservativeness in form and materialization. With basic details, 3 individualized homes with different spatiality have been designed to fit the individual needs

Materiality

Majority of the massing is made of wood which is a natural resource and is readily available and economically feasible, concrete which is resistant to fire damage and glass which retains its quality after recycling. all of these materials are also aesthetically pleasing

The building has been carefully designed too ensure that all rooms regardless of their posisions gets a good amount of sunlight and ventilation. no room is deprived the oppurtunity to receve either of these advantages The project may have a basement pariking however one does not have to pay for parking space except you have a car

The balconies are given interesting shapes so as to make the building facade interesting smaller sized windows are given so as to help minmize the amount of heat being brought into the building therefore less energy has to be used. This reduces the cost of bills for the residents and is sustainable at the same time
