Fall 2022: Loss and Recovery
2022 has been a remarkable year. Our students’ return to in-person learning has brought the campus back to life. As the academic school year draws to a close, we are busy making preparations for the first in-person graduation since 2019! November also marks the official ground-breaking for our new middle school. As we embrace the future and celebrate these milestones, thanks to your support, our day-today remains focused on addressing what the World Bank refers to as the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region’s “triple curse” caused by the pandemic: the combined negative impact on health, education, and income. For many of our students, their learning and psychosocial health recovery process will take three to six years. These struggles and our efforts to address them, bring us back to our humble beginnings in a borrowed church room across from the dump, where Safe Passage founder Hanley Denning said, “we have work to do.” Fortunately, with your help, today there are many more of us to do the work and support each student in achieving their dreams.
