has been awarded Aged Advisor’s Finalist for Best Large Retirement/Lifestyle Village. Located just outside Christchurch, this facility is owned by Ryman Healthcare.
With over 300 units, it’s one of the bigger villages in New Zealand. Despite their size, residents say it’s a place where they have found community. One woman says through all the activities on offer, she has built meaningful relationships.
To ensure this, they deliberately select staff who will go over and above.
One resident attests to this, saying there are, “…no negatives. I have lived here 9 months. I came from a very modern, secure home and I still have one. …a great group of people here.”
Ryman have the recipe!”
Management are thrilled with these reviews and hope to continue this awardwinning service.
Ernest Rutherford Retirement Village
Owned by a Charitable Trust, Archer Village offers both independent living and continuum of care. Anne Brand, of Archer Village feels it’s a great honour to receive this award when there are so many other great villages for people to choose from to reside in.
Anne comments, “Being boutique, we all know each other. We can do lots of things together and make some great friendships. We have award-winning gardens and a Leisure Centre with indoor heated pool/spa, café styled lounge, gym and auditorium where lots of events take place. Last year the ‘Dark Destroyer’ from the Chase TV programme came and entertained us.”
“Our residents and staff are proud to say that they live and work in an AwardWinning Village.”

Charles Upham Retirement Village

“We are so well cared for in our village that I cannot believe our luck to have ended up here. …endless quality entertainment, trips and healthy pursuits, … All manner of past-times are catered for… easy to join up with any group and enjoy and this not only provides great company but also great friendships.”
The village says this recognition is a testament to the hard work done by their team, and look forward to setting an ongoing standard of excellent retirement care.

Diana Isaac Retirement Village
Retirement Village is a grateful finalist for Aged Advisor’s Best Large Retirement Village. Based in Nelson, this Ryman Healthcare facility overlooks the Tasman Bay ranges. There are 199 units on offer, with a range of accommodation available.
As a past three-time winner of Aged Advisor’s Best Large Retirement Village, Diana Isaac Retirement Village is pleased to be recognised again. Named after Lady Isaac, this Ryman Healthcare facility is an established and well-loved village.
Nestled down East Ellington Drive, the village is in a secluded area, with a park at the doorstep, and two malls within a few minutes drive.
Despite the challenges Covid-19 presented, residents feel very supported. One comments publicly, “I cannot speak highly enough of the care I've received. During 'Lockdown' the Ryman family was provided with many practical extras. Weekly bread, milk and biscuits and on Fridays a small bottle of wine or juice with chips or peanuts. We felt really privileged.”
Another finalist for Aged Advisor’s Best Large Retirement/Lifestyle Village is Summerset on Cavendish, in Christchurch.

For the third time, Charles
Head of Communications, Kay Brodie says their focus is putting residents at the centre of everything they do. This allows the village to consistently achieve a high level of care, as they aim for 120% effort all the time.
They have a vast range of services on offer, including townhouses, apartments, respite, dementia and rest home care. Their hope is residents will be reassured by the care available, regardless of where they currently reside across the 335 units.
One long-term resident says she loves every aspect of her village and “couldn't think of a better place for my retirement. I love it here.
Another resident comments "A very pleasant peaceful place to live. Staff quick to go the ‘extra' mile”, and gives them 5 stars.
The team feels honoured to be a finalist and is appreciative of the recognition.
