Waikiwi Gardens Rest Home
Glenbrae Gardens Resthome are over the moon to feature as a finalist for Aged Advisor’s Best Aged Care up to 40 beds.
The Invercargill facility is in their first year of owner operator management. They firmly believe the strength of their team is what has bought about this award, describing their dedication and hard work as key to their success.

In agreement, one visitor says, “You can tell the staff know and care about the home and the residents - just the sort of home I would be happy to go to.”
Their plan for the future is to simply build on what they’ve already achieved and continue more awardwinning service.
A chicken coup, pig sty, vegetable garden and paddock for cattle and sheep surrounds the homes. Daily used by families, residents and staff, this backyard area is celebrated by Southanjer as a unique feature. A resident confirms this, valuing the “opportunity to be taken outside to see the animals.”
For Village Manager Stephanie, an important part of their care is focusing on each person’s unique needs. “Everyone is an individual and we fit our day around how they’d like to spend their day. If they’d like to have breakfast at 10am or have a sleep in, so be it.”
A repeat finalist for Aged Advisor’s Best Care up to 40 beds, Waikiwi Gardens Rest Home says both residents and staff are equally proud of this public acknowledgement.

“We are really stoked to be recognised again as one of NZ’s Best Care facilities. It makes all of the hard work we have done worthwhile. We are really proud of our team.”
After a challenging year, the dementia facility says the positive recognition is refreshing and they look forward to maintaining this excellent care.
For those residents coming into the Nelson Care Home, the first thing staff do is work with the resident and their family to create a ‘My Life’ poster. That way, everyone who comes into the room will get a snapshot of who that person is, their experiences, their pleasures and what their holistic needs are.
The rest home attribute all their success to the devotion of their team, and maintain they are the reason for their achievements. One staff member affirms this, commenting on the “friendly atmosphere when you walk in the door.” Another reviewer states “I can honestly say that each and every staff member is like family to our mum... they are caring, understanding and comforting to her."
