USAFE-AFAFRICA medical units conduct EMEDS Story and photos by Airman Dymekre Allen 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa medical units participated in Expeditionary Medical Support training to challenge their medical readiness skills Aug. 25 through 30 on Ramstein. The training was set to challenge their knowledge and capabilities along with their ability to utilize medical field equipment for humanitarian operations.

The EMEDS training included realistic scenarios for the Airmen, where the Airmen had to perform emergency medical treatments that allowed them to use all their medical skills in a hands-on environment. “The training keeps the Airmen ready for humanitarian missions by getting them familiar with the equipment they would be using downrange,” said Maj. Joseph Indomenico, 86th Medical Squadron medical logistics flight commander. “The input that we get back from the training helps us further advance our training program.” The training also tested the humanitarian response team’s ability to quickly construct a mobile hospital, capable of assisting more than 200 hundred patients. “These mobile hospitals are the same ones we use in the field. It’s essential that our Airmen are efficient and timely with construction of the tents so they can get

them up and running to save as many lives as possible,” Indomenico said. Cadres from Camp Bullis, Texas, oversaw participant’s emergency response capabilities and provided feedback to the units. “We come over here from Camp Bullis (Texas) to better prepare all Air Force medical units in a field setting,” said Maj. Leticia Bland, 737th Training Support Squadron EMEDS support cadre. “We ensure that all our Airmen can provide the best medical care to those in need.” The EMEDS training allowed the HRT the opportunity to get a feel of a deployed environment and allowed them to test their medical abilities. “We are going to make sure by the end of the week all the units here will have either revamped or heightened their level of medical and equipment knowledge,” said Maj. Roger Bermea, 381st Training Squadron EMEDS element chief.

Perception impacts recognition COMMENTARY

any people think they can show up, do their job and that’s enough to get them recognized. Most people do their work, but only those who do it exceptionally will get noticed. We can put on the best performance, but if no one sees it, to most people, it never happened. If we think we should be given special consideration solely by the nature of our work, we are wrong. We must prove ourselves for others to see us worthy of their support. At times, certain members of an organization give the impression their circumstances are more unique than anyone else’s, therefore they should be given a pass to opt out of everything. The problem with this is, everyone else taking up the slack does not have the same understanding. Frankly, they see it as unacceptable. They do not care what the conditions are. All they see is a group of people getting out of things someone else has to do. What resonates in people’s minds is the per-

ception that this group or individual thinks they should be treated special and feels they are better than everyone else. Just as with any other bad behavior, members of this group have a reputation that precedes them; they are held accountable for those actions in some way. If there is a competition, they automatically get forfeited because they have a habit of not showing up. Whatever they do is scrutinized and discounted. No matter if they saved the world, others do not see them worthy of any recognition. They get a bad rap because others perceive them as selfish, unreliable and untrustworthy. Known for being a “no show” is not a good reputation. Likewise, having a label of being self-serving is not good. To be deemed worthy of anything good, we’ve got to get the vote of everyone else. We do that by impressing them and showing we are dependable and willing to do what it takes to help the team succeed. In people’s eyes, we’ve got to prove by action we are carrying just as much or more weight as they do. First, when roll is called, we must be

present and well represented. We can’t expect our voice to be heard if we are not there. In the same way, we’ve got to show up to the trough if we expect to eat. If we think we are too important to show up, we will get left out every time. The thing people often resent is seeing someone pick and choose what they want to be a part of when everyone else has to do the same task. The perception is only when the harvest comes; some people show up to reap. Folks see them as having no problem taking a leave of absence, time off, temporary duty and personal interest they deem important, but when it comes to helping or participating with the rest of the team, they are absent. There is inconsistency in the message, and people find it hard to believe even when true. We can only use being busy or having too many commitments as an excuse for so long. After a while, people develop their own opinion of us, that we do not want to be part of the team. Therefore, we should not share in the benefits; no help, no support and no recognition. We paint the picture; they are looking at it.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION ALERT Ongoing construction work around Autobahn A6’s Exit 13 is seriously impacting traffic to and from the Ramstein West Gate. The RamsteinMiesenbach on- and off-ramp is blocked, affecting drivers traveling west on the autobahn. Detours have been set up. • If you are traveling west on A6 (from the direction of Mannheim and Kaiserslautern) to the Ramstein West Gate, the normal exit is closed. Follow the “U3” signs, which will lead you back on A6 heading east so you can exit normally toward Ramstein Air Base.

• If you are traveling from the west gate to go west on A6 toward Saarbrücken: Upon exiting the west gate, go right in the traffic circle toward Ramstein-Miesenbach. Follow the signs pointing the way toward A62. When you reach A62, turn south to head toward Landstuhl and connect to A6. • If you are traveling from the west gate to go east on A6 toward Mannheim, or if you are traveling east toward the air base from the direction of Saarbrücken, the construction will not affect you. Drive as you would normally. The work blocking the A6 on- and off-ramp is expected to finish about Sept. 25. The entire project, which includes repaving the truck stop near the off-base Burger King, is expected to be completed by the end of October. An alternative route to and from the air base is via the Ramstein East Gate and A6 Exit 14 (Kaiserslautern-Einsiedlerhof). As an option to the East Gate during high traffic periods, POVs may also enter the LVIS Gate from 6 to 8 a.m. and exit from 3 to 6 p.m. Note: When leaving the west gate, if you drive straight through the traffic circle, you will find a large sign in German directing you to follow the “U3” detour to go west on A6 toward Saarbrücken. This will eventually get you to the A62 connection, but it is not the shortest route.

Ramstein chaplain remembers Flugtag ’88 air show disaster Story and photo by Senior Airman Hailey Haux 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs What started off as a young man working in his youth group’s concession stand selling ice cream to patrons of the Flugtag air show on Aug. 28, 1988, ended up being an event that helped shape his Air Force career. Michael Curtis, beginning his senior year in high school, was living in Germany with his family and had attended Flugtag for several years before the crash. “Flugtag in 1988 and the years prior were big events on base and was actually a large fundraiser for the people who lived here,” said Maj. Michael Curtis, 435th Air Ground Operations Wing chaplain. “I remember working at booths for the booster club where my dad worked, as well as my youth group ice cream stand.” At the beginning of the day, Curtis was selling ice cream. Later that afternoon, he and a few friends went to find a place to watch the air show. “Everyone was trying to find a good place to stand and watch,” Curtis said. “In the middle and in the front was a great place to be.” After watching the show and seeing many demonstrations, Curtis and a friend decided to leave a little early

to help a buddy work on his car. Moments after they got up to leave, they heard the big crash and turned around to see a fireball of wreckage. “I remember feeling a sense of shock, knowing that I had been standing in that area shortly before and also knowing a number of people that were engulfed in that fireball,” Curtis said. “At that point, we realized what had happened as chaos started to erupt in the immediate area.” Through all the noise and screaming, Curtis and his friend decided they were too far to help and left the scene to stay

out of the way of emergency responders. “Growing up around the military I was always told if I’m not helping to get out of the way. That’s what we did,” Curtis said. “I remember those days following the crash very clear. There were ads playing on Armed Forces Network asking for blood donations. At school, if some of our friends didn’t show up that first day, we weren’t sure if they were killed, injured or what. It was the days before cell phones and internet so we weren’t in touch with everyone.”

Now, 25 years later, Curtis offers a prayer at the memorial on base as well as the commemoration at the church in Ramstein-Miesenbach. “There are a number of people who have been involved in a small therapy group over the last 25 years, and I think it is beneficial for them to interact with someone who saw and experienced some of the same things they did,” Curtis said. “Someone who is also able to understand, professionally, the grief process we go through in life.” Looking back at his life, there were many events Curtis said led him to become a chaplain, and the air show disaster was one of them. “Talking with our chaplains here at the time of the crash was very helpful,” Curtis said. “It made me realize that people who provide ministry to those in need during difficult times are very important.” There were many things that came out of the crash in 1988: changes in how air shows are conducted and the standards that need to be upheld, but from a chaplain’s perspective, there was something else to learn from it. “One of the biggest things we can learn is to ask ourselves about our hope in life and realize that no matter what, every day holds new challenges and it’s God that brings us through,” Curtis said. “We can get through just about anything with God’s help.”

Ramstein Honor Guard displays precision Story and photo by Senior Airman Trevor Rhynes 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Members of the base honor guard perform in a variety of ceremonies at locations ranging from the local KMC area to France. Sharp. Crisp. Motionless. That’s the guard’s motto, and it’s something they strive to achieve with every practice and ceremony they perform in. Being part of the honor guard isn’t something an Airman can do to pass time. As a guardsman, members represent the Air Force at hundreds of ceremonies with which they’re involved. “You cannot just show up here and expect the medal,” said Staff Sgt. Mathew Clayton, honor guard NCOIC of training. “You can’t just show up here, do the detail and then leave. You have to be able to put in the practice time and sacrifice your off time to be proficient in this duty.” All of the time spent training together unites members of the honor guard, making it like a family, Clayton said. “It’s a great group of people; we’re like a family here even though we all have different backgrounds,” Clayton said. “We come together to get the job done. We show respect to everyone because at any point an (airman first class) could be in charge of a detail.” Since honor guard members perform in a multitude of ceremonies, they could be the only impression a community gets of the Air Force. “You know you make an impact on the community when (we) perform in various ceremonies,” said Senior Airman Jasmine Payne, honor guard member. “Especially here in Europe, that ceremony could be the only time someone gets to see repre-

sentatives from the Air Force.” The ceremonial guardsmen also provide the opportunity to see events that Airmen may not get to see otherwise, Payne said. “It’s a good experience, you get to see a variety of events that happen all around that you may not have known about before being a member of the honor guard,” Payne said. One event in particular that sticks out to Payne, is a funeral she performed while stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

“My most memorable experience was doing a funeral for an Airman who was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.,” Payne said. “During the ceremony I was in direct view of his family, I got to see how much he meant to them. So being able to honor him was probably my most memorable experience since joining the honor guard.” If you’re interested in joining the honor guard, visit Bldg. 2010 where practices begin at 2 p.m. every Wednesday, or call 480-5968 or 06371-47-5968.

435th CRG air advisers visit Slovakia for partnership event From the 435th Contingency Response Group Members of the 435th Contingency Response Group traveled to Sliac Air Base in Slovakia to participate in a seven-day C-17 Globemaster III and C-130 Hercules cargo on- and off-load familiarization event from Aug.11 through 16. This event provided an opportunity for U.S. and Slovak forces to observe one another’s capabilities and procedures while building new partnerships as well as strengthening ones already in place.

During the event, Slovak Capts. Peter Fedors and Lubomir Panacek, along with 14 other members of the Slovak military from multiple units throughout Slovakia, participated in cargo pallet building and tie down exercises. They also attended port and loadmaster operations briefings specific to the C-17s and C-130s provided by Tech. Sgts. Aaron Allen, command and control air adviser, and Amber Mitchell, contingency response loadmaster, and Staff Sgt. Jon Lane, mobile aerial port supervisor, who are all from the 435th Air Advisor Branch.

The mutual exchange of ideas and information during this event were paramount to the continued operations and interoperability between U.S. and Slovak forces. Participating Slovak members conducted briefings on a broad spectrum of topics to include the structure of their military, enlistments and career progression as well as an overview of specific equipment and vehicles. During a base orientation tour, participating members from the 435th CRG were allowed an opportunity to sit inside a Mikoyan, or MiG-29.

Minutes later, they watched the MiG29 take off into a vertical climb and fly inverted. The display was in preparation for an upcoming air show that will be hosted by Sliac AB. “I get the feeling that we are leaving close friends, and the relations and exchanges we were able to build with the Slovak military will strengthen our future cooperation events,” said Capt. Matthew Tempia, 435th CRG air adviser and mission commander. “I truly look forward to future military engagement opportunities with Slovakia.”

435th CTS renovates Boy Scouts facility by Airman Dymekre Allen 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs The Boy Scouts of America will be welcomed in their new and improved operations facility Monday. The building has been under construction to fix safety issues and make the facility feel more like a home away from home for the Scouts since Feb. 11. The 435th Construction and Training Squadron renovated the interior of the facility for the Boy Scouts at Landstuhl. All interior surfaces were redone within the building to include flooring, restrooms, the kitchen area and also to repair and improve all safety concerns. “The Scouts will enjoy the improvements we’ve made,” said Thomas Lenhard, 435th CTS project manager. “It might have taken some time, but it will definitely be worth the wait for them.” Along with upgrades to the installation they also installed fire alarms and exterior lighting systems to protect the building and the Scouts. The biggest challenge for CTS was keeping the facility open and functional during construction. “I know it’s been difficult. The Scouts need a place they can call home,” Lenhard said. CTS engineers came up with creative ideas to save material costs by partnering with the defense reutilization marketing office and the furnishing management office in regards to materials and furniture for the kitchenette. The CTS will officially turn the building over to the 86th Civil Engineer Squadron early September for final inspections and then will be given back to the 140 Scout members. “I think the Scouts needed this change of environment,” said Roger Milligan, Boy Scouts of America leader. “It’s good for them, and I think we can make the best out of an improved building.”

Boy Scouts conduct Scout Expo Saturday The Boy Scouts of America will be conducting a Scout Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center in the Army and Air Force Exchange Sevice main exchange courtyard. The Scouting Expo activities will include informational demonstrations on Scouting, as well as interactive games and challenges. There will be an opportunity to meet Scouts and leaders, play games, enjoy treats, and get acquainted with other Scouts and family members. All families and youth from 6 to 21 years old will be represented. Boy Scouting Packs, Troops and Crews will be demonstrating the latest techniques in European camping, high adventure and skills. Tiger Cubs is for first grade boys and focuses on introducing boys to Scouting and strengthening family relationships.

Cub Scouting provides fun with a purpose for boys in second through fifth grade. Boy Scouting is for boys in sixth grade through 18 years of age and is a program that offers effective character, citizenship and personal fitness training for youth. Venturing is for both young men and women (co-ed) ages 13 through 21, which focuses on even more challenging high adventure activities. Michell Day, a material handler with R4’s Non-Destructive Test Equipment mobile team, tests the structural stability of a ballistic armor plate Aug. 29 on Rhine Ordnance Barracks. Eight members of the NDTE mobile team traveled to Kaiserslautern to conduct required inspections on the more than 50,000 armor plates in circulation throughout U.S. Army Europe.

drop them into a fixed site, process all of the plates they have, and place the plates back on the same cycle and same inspection window while at the same time taking the bad plates out of service.” “Now the only plates that are being sent back to the states are the unserviceable plates, which will go back into circulation once they are repaired” or be destroyed if they cannot be repaired, Cardell added. The cost saving advantage of having a fixed AIS in Kaiserslautern is substantial, Cardell said. “If you look at the big picture, it’s significant; the logistical cost, the transportation and the resources it requires to get things from point A to point B is enormous,” he said. In the past, it was common to have a large number of plates in the warehouse that were considered not issuable because of the length of time that had passed since their last inspection. “Having available stock makes a big difference when you have deployers,” Stovall said. “We need to have the right plates for the Soldier when they’re ready to deploy, so they have that piece of mind that they’re deploying with the best.” Currently, the mobile team is on the ground on Rhine Ordnance Barracks until Oct. 8, inspecting the more than 50,000 plates from across Europe in an effort to maximize the stock of plates eligible for deployment. The current policy only allows for plates to be issued to deploying Soldiers if they have been inspected within the previous nine months. Having the NDTE inspection team on site “should be a recurring thing,” Stovall said. “All of the plates that are considered issuable will all expire at the same time, so we would want to have that taken care of before the nine months are up.” “We look at the operation as being a lifeline (that) gives the Soldiers and commanders the reassurance that they have the best equipment in theater,” Cardell said. “It gives them that reassurance that they have the best type of plate protecting them in the field.” Once complete, the plates which pass inspection will be sent back to the various central issuing facilities throughout Europe and will be ready to protect Soldiers deploying all throughout the world.

WASHINGTON — Airmen applying for tuition assistance in fiscal 2014 will see several changes in both eligibility for and administration of the program. Due to these changes, the application window for classes beginning on or after Oct. 1 will not open until Monday to allow for system updates. This program is applicable to Guard and Reserve only when they are activated. The cornerstone of the Air Force’s FY14 program will be supervisor involvement. Airmen who apply for TA will be required to obtain supervisor approval for all requests. Supervisors may deny requests for Airmen in any level of upgrade training, if the Airman will be TDY or will be PCSing during the academic term, if the Airman is enrolled in PME or for any other factors the supervisor determines would impede the Airman’s ability to complete the course. Requests for TA for foreign language courses will only be approved if they are part of a degree or are on the approved language shortage list. TA will not be approved for Airmen seeking a degree at the same level as they currently hold, with a few exceptions in support of certain graduate foreign language/affairs programs, cyber law master’s degrees and multiple Community College of the Air Force degrees for “Air Force leadAirmen who hold multiple enlisted ers worked very Air Force specialty codes. hard to develop a “Air Force leaders worked very hard to develop a TA program that TA program that provides the best opportunities for provides the best Airmen and meets Air Force needs. opportunities for Higher education continues to be a cornerstone of Airmen’s develop- Airmen and meets ment at all levels,” said Kimberly Air Force needs. TA requests from Airmen — Kimberly Yates, who have unfavorable information Air Force Voluntary Education chief files, failed/overdue physical fitness testing, received referral performance reports or are on a control roster will automatically be denied. The fundamental financial benefits of TA are unchanged. Airmen who are approved to receive TA may receive up to $4,500 per fiscal year and a maximum of $250 per semester hour including tuition and allowable fees. “The changes to TA in FY14 require Airmen and their supervisors to more actively engage in managing academic pursuits and goals,” said Russell Frasz, the director of Force Development. “This will help leaders ensure Airmen take advantage of academic opportunities while balancing their goals with mission requirements.” The Air Force Virtual Education Center will undergo significant modifications to accommodate these changes, which has driven a delay in the opening of the application window for FY14 courses from Aug. 1 until Sept. 9. “The delay will help us test the system and ensure it is user friendly and will work smoothly for Airmen,” Yates said. For the first time, Airmen in the field are involved in testing the updated system and providing feedback to make it as user friendly as possible. Airmen should contact their base education office for more details or for assistance in applying. (Courtesy of Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs)

Two dozen bands play weekend Stadtfest by Rick Scavetta U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern There’s so much music planned for this year’s Stadtfest Landstuhl, it might as well be called Landstuhlapalooza. The weekend-long festival, which begins at 7 p.m. today, is a tradition Landstuhl has celebrated for 25 years. Festivities begin at the Alter Markt, when Landstuhl business and political leaders tap the ceremonial beer barrel — launching an evening of food, drinks and music along Kaiserstrasse, Landstuhl’s main thoroughfare. “It’s that traditional time of the year, autumn is about to start. People come together to share a nice weekend, at the end of summer, before it gets cool and dark again,” said Sascha Rickart, 39, a local Landstuhl attorney. “Music is a big part of that.” Over three days, live bands will perform on three stages. The Wings of Dixie, a U.S. Air Forces in Europe Dixieland jazz band, is one of the first bands to perform today. “Having the Air Force band as the opening act builds a bridge between the German and American military communities,” Rickart said. “It’s a great thing.” Earlier on, jazz dominated the music stages, said Gerhard Paulus, a local real estate agent and musician, who first organized the festival a quarter-century ago to promote local businesses. “The music changed, with more pop music and soul,” Paulus said. “The younger people like that, the cover bands. There’s now something for everyone.” Stadtfest also offers a glimpse of German

traditions — a taste of what’s often seen at larger festivals like Oktoberfest in Munich. The fun continues Saturday, with more bands, food and beer. On Sunday, the event starts at 11 a.m. The event is free, although a €2 donation gets you a bracelet and helps cover costs. “Numerous shopping booths, the famous car exhibition at the ‘Neuen Markt’ and a large offer of regional catering will ensure that everyone’s taste buds can be satisfied,” said Landtuhl mayor Klaus Grumer in publicity material. Food vendors offer everything from traditional grilled bratwurst to saumagen — a slice of sausage typical in the local region. Local Italian restaurants will cook pizza and flammkuchen — a thin-crusted pie served with a cream sauce, ham and onions that has its origins in the nearby Alsace region of France. Sweets are also an attraction, from Nutellafilled crepes to irresistible mini-donuts. City shops will be open during the festival on Saturday and also on Sunday — a unique change for Germans as shopping is only allowed on four Sundays per year. Over the weekend, some of Landstuhl’s streets will be blocked to traffic during the festival. Visitors should consider parking in a lot outside the city center — some lots are along Bahnhofstrasse, near the main train station — and walking into the event. The festival has grown over the years. For Paulus, it has been like watching a child growing up. “It’s nice to see what it is now,” Paulus said. “I have a very good feeling that it worked.” For more information, visit www. stadtfest-landstuhl.de.

Trippstadt celebrates charcoal burners fest, smithy fest by Petra Lessoing 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs

rippstadt will celebrate its annual “Kohlenbrennerfest, charcoal burners’ fest, Saturday and Sunday. Besides the traditional burning of charcoal, the fest includes demonstrations of old craftsmanship, displays, children’s activities and live music. Members of local clubs and associations will be in charge of demonstrating the burning of charcoal. Traditionally, a week prior to the event, they pile up huge amounts of wood to build a coal kiln. A kind of chimney is surrounded by many sticks and covered with turf. The brushwood in the chimney is lit and the kiln starts burning. Then the charcoal burners watch the burning, day and night, for up to a week, keeping the air outside the kiln. If the smoke coming out is blue, the burning process is correct. After the burning, the kiln falls down. The big charcoal pieces are chopped up, the others are raked, and all is collected and packaged. During the fest, the whole process will be demonstrated again. One kiln will be built, another will burn, and a third will already be burnt down. Visitors can buy the charcoal. Mayor Manfred Stahl will officially open the event 5 p.m. Saturday near the coal kiln, which will

Soldier builds international partnership through soccer Story and photo by Staff Sgt. Alexander A. Burnett 21st Theater Sustainment Command Public Affairs ZAGREB, Croatia — During the duty day at Operation Immediate Response, he can be found issuing water, in-processing personnel or even passing out laundry bundles to U.S. Soldiers and service members from the Balkan region of Europe. In the evening, when the computers are powered down and the exercise is on pause, he builds international bonds by engaging in a European pastime — soccer. U.S. Army Spc. Fausto F. Jimenez, the Operation Immediate Response 13 mayor’s cell in and out processing clerk, a human resources specialist assigned to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s 16th Sustainment Brigade headquarters located in Baumholder, Germany, plays soccer with military members from the U.S., Croatia and the U.K. at Petar Zrinski Barracks. Ten Soldiers from Kaiserslautern, Baumholder and Schweinfurt traveled to Croatia to take part in the 19-day exercise. Jimenez said soccer has been his favorite sport and hobby since he was 7 years old. At the conclusion of his first duty day, he immediately began asking Croatian soldiers if they played soccer. They told him where to go and have been playing as often as possible since. “When I came to the exercise I just started asking people if anyone here played soccer and nearly everyone I asked said yes,” Jimenez said. “They told me about their indoor soccer field and we

U.S. Army Spc. Fausto F. Jimenez (left), a human resources specialist assigned to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s 16th Sustainment Brigade located in Baumholder, Germany, tries to keep the soccer ball from members of the U.S. and Croatian army during Operation Immediate Response 13 Aug. 26 at Petar Zrinski Barracks.

started playing almost every night.” Due to the varying work schedules of each nation, the players involved in the soccer game changes every evening. Jimenez, however, has been a constant member on the field and has earned the respect of the other players. “He plays football (soccer) incredibly well, especially for an American,” said Croatian army Cpl. Joseph Oreskovic, a signalman who plays soccer with Jimenez. “We know in America you have your own football that is your favorite sport, but here he is very good at our football.”

Human table football

On the occasion of the Intercultural Week 2013, Kaiserslautern will host the second Human Table Soccer World Cup from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 22. Organizers are also looking for a U.S. team. Registration is open until Sept. 13. The required registration form can be found at www.gaco-kl.de. The form should be sent to beirat@kaiserslautern.de. The form can also be emailed to migrationundintegration@kaiserslautern-kreis.de. For more information, contact Joachim Seufert at sjsportsone@gmail.com or 0176-31100091.

Flag football championships

Unit level flag football championships take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Kaiserslautern Army Depot field, next to Daenner Kaserne. The top six teams from the flag football league will advance to the championships and on their way to winning first place right. For more information, call 493-2087 or 0631-3406-2087.

Boxing club open

The Miesau Ammo Depot Boxing Club has reopened. The club is open from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is free to all.

Each player has his own military mission in Immediate Response and most of them interact everyday while wearing their uniforms. Many of them believe it is important to continue building bonds even after the duty day is over. “It’s nice to come out here after work and play football together. Playing with our partners from Slovenia, the U.S. and Croatia and anyone else who shows up really pays dividends,” said British army Sgt. Peter A. Stubbs, a signal platoon sergeant. “The job reality is that we may all see each other

again in a combat situation, the bond will be stronger when that time comes because of things like this.” When Jimenez played soccer in high school and at Central Baptist College in Conway, Ark., he never thought it would lead to him sharing the field with military members from around the world. “Playing out here, I feel like I am making friends for life,” Jimenez said. “I see these guys every day at work during the exercise, but it’s out here on the field that I really got to know them.”
