BUCHAREST, ROMANIA In recent years, the Department of Defense has placed special importance in investing in our military’s noncommissioned officer corps’ leadership capabilities. In order to continue enhancing leadership capabilities across Europe, U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Philip L. Easton, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa command chief, put plans into action and attended the Romanian air force’s Senior Enlisted Leader and Command Sergeant Major’s Summit in Bucharest, Romania, July 10 to 11. “NCOs are the backbone to air power,” Easton said, “They are our fighters, instructors, mentors, leaders and ambassadors.” See NATO, Page 6

Rixmann 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs A new update to the Safe Helpline website and app was launched for survivors of sexual assault, their loved ones, or anyone within the Department of Defense community on July 5. Updates to the website include additional security features, self-care activities, and information, all while keeping the same features that users are accustomed to. “Th e new and improved Safe Helpline website provides anony-
mous support, resources, and information 24 hours, seven days a week to anyone seeking help,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Melody Bell, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response volunteer victims advocate. These new changes allow users to navigate and find valuable information to better understand what happened to them or a loved one. SAFE HELPLINE from Page 1 Reporting a sexual assault is categorized in two ways: restricted or unrestricted. In a restricted sexual assault case report: • Command is not notified. • No investigation will open. • Sexual Assault Response Coordinator and victim advocate attends to victim needs, provides support, and serves as advocate. • Medical attention and care to include forensic exam will be provided. • Counseling services are offered. • Access to Special Victims Counsel is offered.
The two important distinctions to make between a restricted and unrestricted sexual assault case report is with an unrestricted report, command will be notified and an investigation will be opened. All care and services mentioned in a restricted report are provided in an unrestricted report. According to a SAPR organization release, their belief is every service member should be treated with dignity and respect. The organization goes on to state “Sexual assault has no place in our military. It benefits all of us to get in front of these crimes and take measures to prevent them. Prevention and Response Office is to educate, advocate, and collaborate to respond to and stop sexual assault and its harmful effects on the Air Force.” The SAPR team measures progress being made on sexual assault when the gap between prevalence and reported sexual assaults is narrowed, an overall decrease in prevalence is seen, indicating a decrease in incidents of sexual assault, and a decrease in time from assault to report of the incident is observed. It is the expectation of the SAPR team that these new website updates will assist in accomplishing their mission goals. Users may access the new Safe
Helpline website by navigating to https://safehelpline.org. The Safe Helpline program is also offered as a free app on major platform app stores. Command published its monthly Airpower Summary today, highlighting U.S. and coalition airpower operations in June 2018 in the USCENTCOM area of responsibility. In Afghanistan, Airmen are involved in combat operations as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, while U.S. and NATO partners train, advise and assist the Afghan National and Defense Security Forces as part of the Resolute Support Mission. U.S. and coalition Airmen continue fighting ISIS as part of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria, alongside partners including the Syrian Democratic Forces and Iraqi military forces. Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian, Combined Forces Air Component Commander for U.S. Central Command. Strikes resumed against Taliban irreconcilables June 30. “Until the Taliban show they’re willing to reconcile with the Afghan government, they will remain square in our crosshairs,” said Harrigian. “We remain steadfast in our resolve to take Taliban fight-

ers off the battlefield and decimate their revenue sources.” Meanwhile, U.S. air mobility operations marked its third consecutive month of airdropping more than 100,000 pounds. The C-17 Globemaster III and C-130 Hercules airdropped 126,000 pounds of supplies to U.S. and Afghan ground forces. In support of the NATO Resolute Support Mission, coalition Train, Advise, and Assist Command-Air advisors continue to provide support to the Afghan Air Force. On June 1, C-208 air crews needed only six hours from mission tasking to execution to conduct their first emergency combat airdrop mission bringing ammunition to Afghan National Police and citizens fighting the Taliban in Badakshan Province. Then on June 18, C-208 air crews delivered 900 pounds of supplies via airdrop to Afghan commandos fighting in Faryab Province. Operations in Iraq, Syria In Operation Inherent Resolve, U.S. and coalition strike missions, defensive counter air and armed overwatch sorties continued to accelerate the defeat of ISIS last month.
Coalition strike aircraft flew 1,335 sorties releasing 356 weapons from manned and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIS targets. “While we continue to strike ISIS fighters and posi-
tions, we remain focused on protecting ground forces from above,” said Harrigian. “Our coalition and ground forces have made tremendous strides against ISIS during Operation Roundup, thanks
in part to our shaping operations against ISIS and the confidence our ground forces have that we’ll be overhead.” Air mobility operations played a key role, dropping 170,960 pounds of equipment and supplies to ground forces operating in Iraq. Additionally, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew 545 sorties to develop targets and maintain battlespace awareness, and tankers flew 758 sorties to extend the range of aircraft and the duration of their missions. Meanwhile, the Coalition Aviation Advisory Training Team has sustained support to the Iraqi Aviation Enterprise. “Iraqi Airmen are making impressive strides in combat operations and in professionalizing their air force with the assistance of our CAATT,” said Harrigian. “The coalition team is fully committed to continued support of the Iraqi Aviation Enterprise and will work alongside our Iraqi partners to make their air forces more capable, professional, affordable and sustainable.”

Vogelweh bridge down for repair The pedestrian bridge connecting Vogelweh Housing to the main base is down for repair. Repairs are expected to be completed by early September. A bus pickup schedule is being coordinated through the school. Parents/ guardians should contact their children’s school to arrange travel for their children. KMC Post Office new website The new KMC Postal Operations SharePoint site is ready for CAC users (Active Duty/Contractor/Civilians) to use for In-processing, Mail Hold or Forwards, Out-Processing, and Volunteer Opportunities at the Ramstein (North/South) and Kapaun Post Offices. The site can be found through the USAFE SharePoint portal. Questions? Contact the Northside, Southside, or Kapaun Post Office Customer Service sections. Parking discs needed In certain parking lots on Ramstein Air Base, display of a parking disc is required. The maximum allowable time a car may remain in these lots is posted; the driver must set the disc to the arrival time and make it visible. The following are some parking lots where discs are required; MOMS, Ramstein Officers’ Club, the commissary, the library and the community center. Parking without displaying a disc or remaining past the allowed time could result in a citation. Green Dot Training Have you taken your annual Green Dot training? It has been brought to our attention that residents are placing bulk trash around dumpsters and not cleaning up in their immediate areas. Bulk trash is not permitted to be left at dumpsters and must be taken to the recycle centers either on Ramstein or Vogelweh. Story and photos by Senior Airman Devin Boyer 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs When a Military Working Dog handler arrives at a new K-9 unit, handlers don’t just walk up to their new dog and give commands. If they did, there’s a decent chance the dog will react in a not-so-friendly way. There’s a level of trust that needs to be established between the dog and the handler for things to run smoothly in the world of K-9. “They are just like people; they have different personalities,” said Senior Airman Nicholas Willett, 86th Security Forces Squadron MWD handler. “Some marriages work out, some don’t. We just have to work together and find that common interest between you and the dog.” MWD handlers use different tactics to establish rapport and help them understand the dog’s personality. “Charly is my second dog,” Willett said. “My first dog was a goofball. He was all about being loved and affectionate. (Charly) is a little different.” Handlers continue to build trust by spending time with their dog through different activities. “We have to build that bond, and we do that by bath-

ing them, taking them outside, throwing the ball back and forth, and so on,” Willett said. “It’s a form of exercise for the dog, but they see it as fun.” While handlers build trust by playing fetch with their dog or brushing their coat, they are also performing routine health check-ups. “You’re checking for scars, sores, or anything abnormal. So you’re doing health checks and brushing them, and they’re getting loved,” Willett said. Understanding one another doesn’t end with the initial meet and greet. As MWD handlers continue to work
with their dogs, they learn more about each other and how to adapt to one another in order to have a successful partnership. “There were times when I’ve gone through problems with some training scenarios and he’s saved me, and then there’s some days where he’s not feeling up to it and I got to keep him going and amp him up so it’s fun for him,” said Willett. “If it’s not fun, then they’re not going to want to do it.” Willett said K-9 units specialize in bomb and narcotic detection. MWDs either learn
one or the other, never both. This is to prevent confusion between situations during a real search. “Our job as a handler is to recognize their change of behavior,” added Willett. “There’s a difference between interest and detection.” Once the dog goes through initial training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the Air Force assigns them to a unit where they spend the rest of their career working with different handlers as they cycle through. Handlers could go through several dogs throughout their Air Force careers.
“You always get attached to your first dog,” said Willett. “We were very identical in terms of being goofy. We linked very well, and Ssamuel was a great dog. He was definitely a dog that wanted to please. No matter what, he always wanted to do things right.” Handlers spend anywhere between 30 to 40 hours a week with their dogs. Whether they are training or working real-world scenarios, military working dogs and their handlers grow stronger each day. “Any small step towards making the bond stronger is definitely gratifying,” Willett said. Even though MWDs change handlers every couple years, there’s a chance they could be reunited with a previous handler through adoption after their retirement from the Air Force. From there, the bond between dog and handler can continue to grow once again. The MWDs in the 86th SFS continue to build trust with their furry partners in crime to keep the mission going at Ramstein. said it was a great opportunity to learn about the Romanian air force and their enlisted force. “It’s important to develop those relationships with senior leaders, and enlisted leaders are no exception,” Balian said. “So, in building our personal relationships with these senior enlisted leaders, learning about what they do, meeting their personnel, we have a great start developing further relationships and capacities of our forces. The Chief Master Sergeants of the Bulgarian air force and Turkish air force also attended the summit to discuss their countries’ current mission capabilities, NCO professional development training, challenges and visions. “We have to continue to develop our future leaders and invest in the future,” said Royal Air Force Chief Warrant Officer Jake Alpert, Allied Air Command SEL. “If we don’t do that now, then in the future our air forces won’t be as good as they are now.”
“It’s important that we release the full potential of NCOs and recognize the full talent out there in order to develop them for future operations,” Alpert added. USAFE-AFAFRICA currently offers three combined Airman Leadership Schools open to NATO allies’ NCO officers in an aim to deliberately train middle management in leadership skills. As training keeps developing for our NATO allies, the U.S., Royal, Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish air forces continue to work together and improve ready air forces capable of maintaining regional security.

DOD announces policy change on transfer of Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits Courtesy of Department of Defense News Defense Media Activity The Defense Department issued a substantive change today to its policy on the transfer by service members in the uniformed services of Post-9/11 GI Bill educational benefits to eligible family member recipients. Effective one year from the date of this change, eligibility to transfer those benefits will be limited to service members with less than 16 years of total active-duty or selected reserve service, as applicable. Previously, there were no restrictions on when a service member
could transfer educational benefits to their family members. The provision that requires a service member to have at least six years of service to apply to transfer benefits remains unchanged in the policy. Focus on Retention “After a thorough review of the policy, we saw a need to focus on retention in a time of increased growth of the armed forces,” said Stephanie Miller, director of accessions policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. “This change continues to allow career service members that earned this benefit to
share it with their family members while they continue to serve.” This change is an important step to preserve the distinction of transferability as a retention incentive, she added. If service members fail to fulfill their service obligation because of a “force shaping” event — such as officers involuntarily separated as a result of being twice passed over for promotion or enlisted personnel involuntarily separated as a result of failure to meet minimum retention standards, such as high year of tenure -- the change will allow them to retain their eligibility to transfer education benefits even if they haven't

The policy affects service members in the uniformed services, which includes the U.S. Coast Guard as well as the commissioned members of the U.S. Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Look Before You Lock: Never leave children in vehicles unattended

Heatstroke is one of the leading causes of death among children. Regrettably, even great parents may forget a child in the back seat when distracted. Caregivers who aren’t used to driving kids or those whose routine suddenly changes may also overlook a sleeping child in the backseat. While all untimely accidents and injuries are unfortunate, they can be prevented by increasing awareness and educating people about preventative behaviors.
Use these tips to avoid putting children at risk of heatstroke: • Always check the back seats of your vehicle before you lock it and walk away. • Keep a stuffed animal or other memento in your child’s car seat when it’s empty, and move it to the front seat as a visual reminder when your child is in the back seat. • If someone else is driving your child or your daily routine has been altered, always check to make sure your child arrived safely. • Keep in mind a child’s sensitivity to heat. • In 10 minutes, a car’s temperature can rise more than 20 degrees

A child’s safety is paramount — so above all else — action should be taken to safeguard the child’s life prior to the arrival of first responders, if necessary. So, if a child in a vehicle seems hot or sick, get him or her out of the vehicle as quickly as possible. The effects of extreme heat are not only harmful to infants and young children, but to pets as well. Never leave your pets in a parked car, even if the windows are open, because they can suffer from heat-related illness too. So whether you’re the parent of a baby or a fur baby, never forget your kid in the backseat — and always remember to look before you lock!

Ramstein Airmen host cadets from across Europe whether it is the first time they are away from home or the first time they command a flight,” Livesay said. “This program helps young men and women grow and challenge themselves.” Encampment is a required part of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program and allows cadets to progress to the senior leadership ranks. Cadets who complete an encampment are eligible to return to instruct junior cadets in future years. Civil Air Patrol host encampments in every U.S. state annually. “Civil Air Patrol is a great organization,” Rawls noted. “It gives volunteers an opportunity to get involved and serve others.”

Six instructors and 27 cadets learned discipline, physical fitness, aerospace principles and survival skills during the immersive eight-day training and camping trip. Participants from Germany’s Ramstein Air Base, Spangdahlem Air Base, U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart, U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, and England’s Royal Air Force Mildenhall attended the international encampment. Volunteer instructors from the Civil Air Patrol and the Kaiserslautern Military Community facilitated the international encampment. The 435th Air Ground Operations Wing provided the training facilities, to include the classrooms, tents and dining facilities. The 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing provided a tour of their facilities and instructed cadets on mobility capabilities. Personnel f rom Landstuhl Regional Medical Center conducted woodland training and emergency self-aid, while volunteers from the 86th Airlift Wing taught aerospace education lessons and provided transportation across the area. Peek behind the curtain: Prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD by Shireen Bedi Air Force Surgeon General Public Affairs Post-traumatic stress disorder can be debilitating, but there are therapies that can reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and help Airmen return to duty. One of the most effective therapies, practiced by many Air Force mental health professionals, is prolonged exposure therapy. PTSD symptoms can create a network of fear. Memories and sensations from traumatic events spill over into other parts of someone’s life. It is common for a person who has experienced trauma to try to avoid those thoughts and places that remind him or her of that traumatic event. Lt. Col. Alicia Ottati, the Air Force Mental Health Policy chief, says symptoms can get worse the more a person avoids thoughts and places associated with the trauma. “If a patient has PTSD related to a roadside bomb blast, they may experience increased anxiety and distress while driving or when seeing debris on the side of the road because it reminds them of that traumatic event,” said Ottati. “As a result, the person may avoid or limit driving. The unintended consequence of this avoidance may be that they rarely leave home or alter their daily schedule so they aren’t engaging with people or things that are meaningful to them, reducing their quality of life.” The good news, says Lt. Col. Joel Foster, the Mental Health Flight commander with the 18th Medical Group at Kadena Air Force Base, Japan,
The symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder can often be debilitating, significantly affecting a patient’s quality of life. Air Force mental health professionals have successfully treated many Airmen with the use of prolonged exposure therapy. Through this collaborative therapy, the patient is safely and gradually exposed to trauma-related memories and situations that have been avoided. is that upwards of 80 percent of patients respond favorably to prolonged exposure therapy. “Prolonged exposure is a collaborative therapy where the goal is to safely and gradually reduce a patient’s avoidance of trauma-related memories and situations,” said Foster. “Prolonged exposure also addresses unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that may contribute to a patient’s difficulties.” Prolonged exposure generally consists of about 10 sessions, slowly introducing the patient to the thoughts and feelings associated with the traumatic event. As Foster explains, prolonged exposure does this through two different processes. The first is imaginal exposure, which exposes the patient to the thoughts, memories, and feelings surrounding their traumatic event. The second is in vivo exposure, which exposes the patient to places associated
with the trauma. “If someone had PTSD symptoms related to a tornado, the therapist may slowly introduce them to places they have been avoiding as a result of that tornado, such as the street where it happened,” said Foster. Sessions involve talking through the traumatic event, which are recorded so patients can listen to them between sessions. Patients may have homework where they listen to those recordings, or go to the places they have been avoiding, while noting how they are feeling. In following sessions, the therapist will go over the homework and ask the patient to talk through the traumatic event again. “The memories of a traumatic event is painful, but when patients start talking about the trauma, they realize these are just memories that can no longer hurt them,”
said Foster. “As they repeatedly go over the trauma, it eventually takes the sting out of those memories.” The process, called habituation, is the reason prolonged exposure therapy is effective. “Habituation happens when
you get used to a repeated stimulus,” said Foster. “Our bodies cannot remain at a high level of distress and anxiety for very long, so as we continue to talk through the traumatic event or visit a place that causes distress, eventually the body naturally calms down.” “The goal of prolonged exposure is not to get rid of painful thoughts and feelings, but to change your relationship with and reaction to these thoughts and feelings,” said Ottati. The important thing both Ottati and Foster want Airmen to know is that feeling nervous or anxious when starting prolonged exposure is normal, but working through the symptoms gets easier with time and practice. “If you can put people back into the mission and have them feel effective and useful, then prolonged exposure serves as a huge benefit,” said Foster. “Prolonged exposure can give Airmen dealing with PTSD symptoms a new lease on life.”

It is always hard letting go, but some of the larger items should be easier to say goodbye to. Your old mattress, for example, may have its best days behind it. That washing machine you have hauled around might be on its last legs. The next question is what to do with it if you no longer need it!
What is considered bulky waste? These are items that do not fit into your normal garbage cans: • Furniture • Lamps • Cupboards/wardrobes • Carpets • Shelves • Tables • Chairs For these items, there usually is a street collection multiple times a year, which varies from community to community. Talk to your German neighbor as it is a pretty good bet they will know when the
scheduled pick up is also giving you a good reason to strike up a conversation! Some items require special disposal due to their weight, girth and components that may contain harmful materials. You can often get free pick-up service by contacting the company that is responsible for picking up your regular garbage. If you are a renter, your landlord may be able to help you contact the right organization. Below is a list of items that would need special pick-up coordination.

Visit Burg Trifels & Teufelstisch by MilitaryInGermany.com Two fabulous places that can easily be visited from K-town are Burg Trifels and Teufelstisch – a perfect way to spend the day with visiting guests or family – and driving there through the Pfälzer Wald is half the fun! The Pfälzer Wald Driving to Burg Trifels and the Teufelstisch takes you directly through the famous Palatinate Forest – The Pfälzer Wald. This area has been designated as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate ForestVosges du Nord (when joined with the latter low mountain range in northern France, just across the German-French border). That’s right! Residents of the KMC (Kaiserslautern Military Community) are living next to one of the biggest forests in Europe! The most beautiful route I found goes right through the middle of the Pfälzer Wald and starts just east of K-town. Driving east on A6 from Ramstein, take the EnkenbachAlsenborn exit, and go south on B48. As soon as you get off the Autobahn, you are in the Pfälzer Wald. If you live south of K-town around Trippstadt, you are LIVING in the Pfälzer Wald! From here, navigate your way through the back roads and pick up the B48 in Johanniskreuz, and go south from here. This stretch takes you directly through a beautiful, heavily forested area. On a warm day, you will see con-

vertibles with the top down competing for the fresh air and motorcycles abound, partially for the scenery but also for the sport of taking the hairpin curves. Some of these curves do not have a guard rail, so it is important to constantly keep your eye on the road. If you wish, stop off at the Hotel/ Restaurant Johanniskreuz for lunch, refreshments, or ice cream along the way. They have a nice beer garden for those warm summer days. Burg Trifels If you want a GPS assist, dial in „Annweiler“ as your destination. Burg Trifels is adjacent to this town. As you approach Annweiler, you will exit B48 and get on B10 going east towards Landau. You will pass through the Stauffer Tunnel which is a nice treat for the kids. Once you get in the area around Annweiler, there are signs everywhere to Burg Trifels Burg Trifels (Address: Trifelsstraße 72, 76855 Annweiler am Trifels). In English, it is Trifels Castle, dating from the Middle Ages and located on the 1,600 foot peak known as Sonnenberg (meaning „Sun Mountain“ in German). Sonnenberg is made up of the red sandstone typical of the Pfälzer Wald. From the castle you can enjoy beautiful panoramas of the Pfälzer Wald and take a look at some of the imperial regalia from the Holy Roman Empire that are on display. There are numerous hiking trails around the castle. The story for which the castle is
most famous involves the imprisonment of King Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionhearted, who was captured near Vienna in December 1192 by Duke Leopold V of Austria. King Richard was on his way home from the Third Crusade at the time of his capture. Duke Leopold turned King Richard over to Emperor Henry VI of Hohenstaufen, who kept him prisoner at Burg Trifels for three weeks from 31 March to 19 April 1693. King Richard was released for a huge ransom. See www.annweiler.de for castle opening times and prices. Waldgastätte Barbarossa Waldgaststätte Barbarossa is next to the castle. This is a local restaurant with a beer garden, play area for kids, offers disabled access and a terrace for warm sunny days. Teufelstisch Teufelstisch (devil’s table) is a natural wonder located 20 KM west of Burg Trifels, a pretty 20 minute
drive west on B10 in the direction of Pirmasens. It is next to the town „Hinterweidenthal“ (put this into your GPS). The Teufelstisch is a well known landmark of the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz (or RhinelandPalatinate in English) which has been depicted on German coins and stamps. It looks like a one-legged, mushroom-shaped table, is about 45 feet high, and made of the characteristic red sandstone of the Palatinate Forest. It is an easy hike to the Teufelstisch (mostly with steps), and well-marked. There are numerous possibilities for climbers and hikers here, and there is also an adventure park “Erlebnispark Teufelstisch” which opened in 2009 and offers a giant slide, a rock pond, a maze that leads to a clock tower, and a cable car – perfect for the kids. And, best of all, there is no entry fee to hike to the Teufelstisch or to play in the park. However, you might have to pay a parking fee of €2.00. There is a restaurant on the premises.

When planning a trip to the beach, youʻre probably looking at Italy, France and Spain for your Vitamin D fix but forgetting all about the beauty thatʻs waiting on Germanyʻs very own shores. The North Sea, sometimes referred to as German Sea, offers white sand and green meadows as far as the eye can see along with fresh fish, dreamy hiking paths and the world famous tidelands. I’ve been wanting to go back for years and I’m very glad I did. We stayed in Dorum, a small town right by the beach, which was perfectly central to everything we wanted to do. The weather was in our favour as well but do not let these photos fool you: it’s not always sunny along the Wurster Nordseeküste. Relaxing The national park Nordseeküste is the perfect destination for nature lovers looking for a relaxing yet exiting vacation. Wherever you stay, you will be given a “Gästekarte”, guest pass, which earns you free admission to beaches and pools along with discounts for museums and other attractions. Tideland Walks The North Sea is famous for their tides meaning the ocean will not always be there when you show up to the beach. In fact, you might be quite surprised how far away the water will be at times. A tide calendar (available online) can tell you when you’ll be able to go for a swim and when it’s best to go on an epic tideland walk. While it is absolutely safe to walk along the mudflats by yourself, long tideland walks from one island to another should not be emerged on without a professional guide as the flood has surprised self-confident hikers in the past and can be quite unpredictable at times. Thankfully, guided tours are offered everywhere along the coast. If you don’t want to walk, you can rent a horse-drawn wagon and discover the unique scenery without getting your feet muddy. However, the mud functions a natural foot scrub with endless minerals that you should not miss out on.

Bremerhaven Museums These are two of the most interesting and elaborate interactive museums I have ever been to and they’re located right next to each other by the harbour in Bremerhaven, circa 30 minutes from Dorum. However, since both museums offer an intense variety of knowledge and require several hours of your time, you might want to consider doing them on separate days to avoid information-overflow-induced headaches. The city’s harbour is great for walks and culinary recharging between museums as well. Admission is quite expensive at €14.80/€16 per adult and €8.80/€11.50 per child but I promise you both museums are well worth the time and money for children and adults alike. Dogs are not allowed in either of them. Emigration Museum The Auswanderer Museum, Emigration Museum, winner of the 2007 European Museum of the Year Award, covers 300 years of immigration and emigration history with a unique design: your entrance ticket is a boarding pass to your new life across the pond, which leads you through authentic waiting halls onto a ship where you can see replicas of cabins for different classes and hear stories by former travellers. land, you arrive at a stunning replica of Grand Central station where you can learn about the multicultural population all over America. From there you continue back to a Germany from the 60s and 70s, including a retro hair salon, department store, cinema and much more. You can also trace your real ancestors in the Family Research Room. Every info board and audio station is available in English. An extraordinary amount of educational info is available during this journey so be sure to plan a few hours for this. It took us about two hours but we only listened to maybe 1/3 of the stories.

Description/Job Summary: The Center Operations Supervisor (EUR) is responsible for the dayto-day operations of two USO centers embedded in secured military deployment facilities. Assists the Area Operations Manager in executing community-support programs and supports other USO centers as necessary.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties):
• Manage day-to-day center operational procedures, ensuring a cost-effective, safe, welcoming, clean and well-maintained environment.* • Develop, improve and maintain working relationships with US Military and local business community leadership to enhance awareness of the USO mission.* • Supervise volunteers for general and program activities including recruitment, supervision, training, development and recognition.* • Operate center within approved budgetary guidelines, including cash handling. Maintain accurate inventory. Provide information for consolidated financial, operational and statistical reports as requested. Provide any other ad hoc reports as required.* • Control, safeguard and maintain the fabric, furniture, fitments, equipment and assets in the Center and maintain standards of cleanliness within the center. Ensure that sanitary and food-handling regulations are followed.* • Assist the Area Operations Manager in executing center-wide operations and programs to include community outreach events, fundraisers, and volunteer management. • Create and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure file that details local operational procedures and Center activities to enable prompt reporting, easy rotation and follow-on.* • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. • 1-3 years work experience in retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role, including 1+ years in a supervisory capacity. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs. • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment. • Ability to perform basic math and follow proper cash/donation handling and reporting procedures, business/accounting functions including project management and budget reconciliation. • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license. • Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission. • Responsible for managing and operating two separate and distinct centers. • Ability and willingness to travel between and provide outstanding support to two geographically separated centers and our administrative office. • Ability and willingness to arrange personal schedule to meet operational demands due to irregular hours (i.e., late evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays) and ever-changing work flows. • Ability to supervise volunteers directly and remotely.
