Secretary of Defense hosts Ukraine Defense Consultative Group on Ramstein by C. Todd Lopez Department of Defense News In a forum hosted by Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, nearly 40 nations met to discuss current and future efforts to provide support for Ukraine in maintaining its sovereignty, at Ramstein Air Base, April 26. “We’re all coming away with a transparent and shared understanding of the challenge that the Ukrainians face,” Austin said during a press briefing that followed the conference. “I know that we’re all determined to help Ukraine win today and build strength for tomorrow. The work that we’ve done together in record time has made a huge difference on the battlefield.” During the briefing, Austin announced that several nations have agreed to step up support for Ukraine, even beyond the valuable work they are already doing. The German government, for instance, agreed to provide 50 Cheetah anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE from Page 1 said, along with Canada’s offer of eight armored vehicles. “That’s important progress,” Austin said. “We’re seeing more every day. I applaud all of the countries that have risen and are rising to meet this demand. But we don’t have any time to waste. The briefings today laid out clearly why the coming weeks will be so crucial for Ukraine, so we’ve got to move at the speed of war. And I know that all the leaders leave today more resolved than ever to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and atrocities.” Before the conference kicked off, Austin said he believed all participants started off from the same position of “moral clarity.” “Nobody is fooled by Putin’s pretexts or by his phony claims on the Donbas [region],” Austin said. “Let’s be clear — Russia’s invasion is indefensible, and so are Russian atrocities. We all start today from a position of moral clarity: Russia is waging a war of choice to indulge the ambitions of one man.” What Russia is doing, Austin told participants at the meeting, affects more than just Ukraine. “Russia’s invasion is baseless, reckless and lawless,” he said. “It is an affront to the rules-based international order. It is a challenge to free people everywhere. And, as we see this morning, nations of goodwill from around the world stand united in our resolve to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s imperial aggression. And that’s the way it should be.” While the meeting today in Germany lasted just one day, Austin said a decision was made to extend the forum so more work could be done. Going forward, Austin said,

“The contact group will be a vehicle for nations of goodwill to intensify our efforts, coordinate our

assistance, and focus on winning today’s fight and the struggles to come,” Austin said. “The monthly

meetings may be in-person, virtual or mixed. And they’ll extend the transparency, the integration and the dialogue that we saw today.” Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Austin said, more than 30 allied and partner nations have committed to providing more than $5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine. The U.S. alone provided some $3.7 billion in assistance. “Ukraine needs our help to win today. And they will still need our help when the war is over,” Austin told meeting participants. “As President Biden says, our security assistance has gone ‘directly to the frontlines of freedom ... and to the fearless and skilled Ukrainian fighters who are standing in the breach.’ My Ukrainian friends, we know the burden that all of you carry. And we know, and you should know, that all of us have your back. And that’s why we’re here today — to strengthen the arsenal of Ukrainian democracy.”

Passenger Terminal As of April 22, all restrictions on spaceavailable (Space-A) travel have been lifted. In accordance with DOD Force Health Protection Guidance and the foreign clearance guide, all passengers traveling to the United States via Military Aircraft, age 2 and older, must receive a negative viral test (PCR or Antigen) within three calendar days of departure OR recovery letter within 3 months of positive test result and complete a Threat Health Declaration. All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask on DOD transportation assets and within DOD transportation hubs. Retiree Activities Office Your 86 AW/RAO maintains email addresses for over 1400 retirees and or surviving spouses located throughout the KMC footprint. Before the pandemic the email address elements were quite accurate, but for some reason many email addresses now are being rejected/ undeliverable. First enlisted leaders enshrined in CSAF, CMSAF International Honor Roll by Billy Blankenship Air University Public Affairs

Air University enshrined its first senior enlisted leader graduates, along with officer alumni, into the Chief of Staff and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force International Honor Roll during a ceremony at the Maxwell Club at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, April 13. For the enlisted inductees, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass held an additional ceremony later in the day to dedicate the International Honor Roll wall in the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy on Maxwell’s Gunter Annex, memorializing their accomplishments. For 34 years, the International Honor Roll has honored Air University graduates who have gone on to attain prominent positions within their home-country’s military or government. In conjunction with the addition of honoring enlisted graduates for the first time, the honor roll is newly sponsored by the offices of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. “The significance of inducting our partner nation senior enlisted leaders into the International Honor Roll alumni cannot be overstated,” said Bass. “As we enter an era of contested domains, our international allies and partners will be the ones standing alongside us. Ramstein’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program along with South Side Fitness Center and Kaiserslautern Military Community support groups marched together in honor of sexual assault awareness and prevention month to highlight the fight against sexual assault and harassment. The event was inspired by sexual assault survivor, Savannah Pentek, 786th Force Support Squadron South Side Fitness Center events coordinator. “You need to protect yourself and you have to protect others,” said Pentek. “We all need to remember to have each other’s backs.” The event emphasized the importance of everyone’s role in,

and awareness of, sexual assault prevention. “My goal is to make an impact; for it to be serious and honest,” said 1st Lt. Charlotte Barrielle, 86th AW deputy sexual assult response coordinator. “We need to bring awareness to this important issue.” During the march, the track was lined with booths that had activities for individuals to take part in. “There is something specific for everyone,” said Barrielle. “Whether it is related to affirmations, self care, letters to a survivor, LGBTQ awareness or sexual harassment.” Some of these activities included burning notes of negativity, practicing words of affirmation and letters and words of encouragement to survivors. Additionally, the event featured a wall of boots that represented the variety of individuals who are affected by sexual assault regardless of their age, sex, rank and background. “These are people that have

been hurt by this and it is not a far away cause,” said Barrielle. “Almost every unit on this base, if not every, has been affected by this.” Support groups on base include SAPR, family advocacy, victims counsel and the chaplain corps. “We are all here to take a stand with victims of sexual assault,” said U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Briand N. Weeks, 16th Sustainment Brigade SARC. “Tell everyone when you see something, don’t just say something, but do something – that is prevention.” Along with the community outreach groups, the event had a large group of Airmen who volunteered their time. Among them included Airman 1st Class Rachel Harris, a 786th FSS customer service technician. “Don’t be afraid to speak up,” said Harris. “There is always someone willing to listen, even when it is difficult to do so.” To access additional resources call the SAPR hotline at 0637-147-7272.

How health IT upgrades are transforming Military Health System Story and photo by Claire Reznicek Military Health System Communications Top military health officials recently highlighted the importance of maintaining premium care for patients at a time when information technology systems are changing rapidly across the Military Health System. Speaking at the Health Information Management Systems Society conference in Orlando, Florida, in March, Dr. Barclay Butler, the Defense Health Agency’s assistant director of management, spoke about the intricacies of institutional transformation, especially standardization and consolidation. “This transformation changes everything,” Butler said. “Everything except the care of our patients.” Butler said the DHA is placing a high priority on protecting staff from burnout while focusing on their goals and patient care. Following Dr. Butler’s presentation was a briefing from Lance Scott, the program manager for the Defense Medical Information Exchange program, and Crystal Baum, the Joint Health Information Exchange product owner for the

Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization Office. They talked about optimizing and expanding the joint health information exchange. They highlighted specific programs underway such as the effort to use natural language processing to make searching easier for providers. They also talked about the retirement of older software systems and what that really looks like in practice. The conference’s second day featured a panel discussion on “Experiencing, Enhancing, and Evolving Federal Electronic Health

Records.” Experts talked about how systems like MHS GENESIS foster innovation and improve responsiveness. Pat Flanders, DHA’s chief information officer and the deputy assistant director for information operations, said that often there are the “haves and the have-nots when it comes to [Military Treatment Facilities], and the smaller MTFs wonder why they don’t have access to the same systems and opportunities. A standardized electronic health record bridges that gap.” Meanwhile, Holly Joers, pro-

gram executive officer for Defense Healthcare Management Systems, said deploying the standardized electronic health records is a team effort. “Our success as a team relies on doing this with commanders on the ground,” she said. “Not to them or for them. But with them.” Flanders recalled his own military retirement as a difficult process involving a three-month search to locate his health records. In the future, however, Flanders said he hopes others will be able to complete that same process by just checking a box on the computer. The conference’s second day concluded with Army Lt. Gen. Ron Place, the DHA’s director, providing keynote remarks and a briefing entitled, “Clear and Present Danger.” Place began by noting that human beings aren’t perfect, but technology can be a solution to reduce human error. “Done right, health IT can make doing the right thing the easy thing,” said Place. The director closed his remarks by reminding the audience that the single most important factor that determines whether an injured or wounded service member survives isn’t the talented combat surgeon or doctor back home, but “the skills of the medics and corpsmen who treat the fallen soldier, sailor, air-

man, or Marine on the battlefield [where] technology, communication and rapid evacuation may not be available.” Place emphasized that although “we utilize technology to train our medical teams and to outfit our home stations, deployed hospitals and clinics … our most important tool is the medic or the corpsman stepping out into the unknown, unafraid, with the skills gained through training and experience — the sets and reps needed to hone those skills.” The final day of DHA engagement at the HIMSS conference closed with motivational words from Dr. Brian Lein, the DHA’s assistant director for healthcare administration. Lein provided a frank and illuminating brief on “Developing the Military Medical Digital Patient Experience.” He issued a stark reminder for all those working within the MHS. “There’s no other healthcare system in the world that has our mission. We have to focus on readiness first,” Lein said. While discussing the future of digital health care in the era of COVID-19 and the use of electronic health records, he declared “we cannot optimize until we standardize.”

Courtesy story 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs An Airman assigned to the 786th Civil Engineer Squadron was awarded Airlifter of the Week for his leadership skills and being a subject matter expert in his field, April 7. U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Bryson Ott, 786 CES non-commissioned officer in charge of aircraft rescue systems, was recognized as AOTW for overseeing the development of the “Trade a Trainee” program with the 435th Construction and Training Squadron, which allows Airmen access to hands-on upgrade training. With 586 tasks to sign off on, Ott ensures his Airmen fully experience what they will be doing as opposed to just reading about it. “He has the capability of rallying the troops and he has the personality, charisma and drive to pick other people up after a long week,” said Master Sgt. Levi Owen, 786th CES flight chief.

Ott works with his team and supports them, and the mission, to achieve the best work possible. He believes honing in on individual skill sets and building morale achieves this goal. But, Ott is more than his uniform, he is a husband, father and leader with personal interests outside of work, including riding his motorcycle all around Germany, and spending time with his family. Riding is an escape from work and life stressors for Ott. While riding, he enters another zone that challenges his mental focus. His favorite part about his motorcycle is the torque and rev range that pulls the bike forward. When it comes to riding, nothing keeps Ott away from his motorcycle, “whether there be rain, snow, or sleet,” he said. Ott and his wife, Priscilla, are parents of two children, Versilia, who is 11 years old, and Ratio, who just turned six. At home

they take the time to explore new foods and enrich themselves through experiencing different cultures. Being in Germany has given them the opportunity to travel as a family and take advantage of the surrounding area. Ott’s father served in the Air Force for 26 years, contributing to Ott’s decision to serve. “I’ve got some pretty big shoes to fill,” Ott said. “My dad is my biggest hero.” Ott has been in the Air Force for 13 years and continues to broaden his horizons. He is currently attending the University of Maryland Global Campus and only has nine credits remaining before earning his Bachelor's Degree in Energy Management. When reflecting on his appreciation for the award Ott said, “I just think it’s the recognition of the amount of work that it takes to use the budget that we have here effectively and try to keep the beast that is Ramstein running.”

10 EAEF Airman finds true calling as flight, trauma nurse Story and photo by Senior Airman Faith Schaefer 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing “…Things just got more difficult, but I knew that priority wise, I never wanted to stop serving…” Even as the first female in her family to serve in the military, 17-year-old Keri never secondguessed her decision to enlist into the Florida Army National Guard. Now U.S. Air Force Capt. Keri Lord-Morales is deployed to the 10th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Flight, Ramstein Air Base, as a flight nurse and instructor. And what a journey it was for Lord-Morales in the years between Army enlisted unit supply specialist to her dream job as a flight nurse. As a unit supply specialist in logistics, Lord-Morales had limited experience in the medical field besides annual combat lifesaver training and, at that time, her civilian job as a veterinary technician. During a deployment to Afghanistan in 2004, however, she was given an opportunity that would change her entire outlook on life. “I was one of three females at my deployed location, and the only one with any medical experience,” stated Lord-Morales. “Given the different culture over [in Afghanistan], it’s really important that females care for females, so I worked a lot in the clinic. I saw all sorts of injuries,

trauma injuries specifically. I knew right then and there that this was my call to nursing.” After returning from her lifechanging deployment, LordMorales finished her eight-years of service in the Army. She then pursued her degree to be a trauma nurse, eventually continuing her education to become a nurse practitioner. “When I set out to be a nurse, I knew I wanted to provide advanced care,” claimed Lord-Morales. “I wanted to be so proficient at it and I really wanted to work in trauma.

I think I pushed myself harder because I knew what was at stake. Not for me but for [my patients].” While also being a mother and working as trauma nurse, LordMorales finished her master’s degree within one year and joined the Air Force Reserves as a flight nurse with the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Soon after, her husband’s job moved the family to Lima, Peru, with her six-week-old son and sixyear-old daughter in tow. “Before we left, I hurried up and got my qualifications back so that I could travel back and forth,” said Lord-Morales. “I was traveling back and forth with my son and I flew for about eight months of my son’s life.” After traveling back and forth from Florida with her son to continue her uniformed service for eight months, Lord-Morales took a brief hiatus from flying. She quickly discovered the Individual Mobilization Augmentee program, or IMA, within the Air Force

Reserves. Lord-Morales then took a position as a nurse practitioner at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. But, she always knew she was meant to fly. “That’s just what I loved, so I did the IMA position for a year and went back to flying,” said LordMorales. “It is one of the most rewarding jobs in the military and I absolutely love it,” she added. While traveling back and forth to continue her uniformed service, Lord-Morales also accepted a job as a nurse practitioner in the U.S. Embassy in Lima. “It’s a neat population to serve and in a resource-limited environment it was quite interesting,” said Lord-Morales. “As you can imagine, providing care in a local community you know nothing about can be challenging.” During her time in Peru, she has paved the way for the COVID19 vaccine program at the U.S. Embassy and formed a casualty response team based on her prior experiences. “You always have to go into

something and ask yourself, ’how do I want to leave it when I’m gone?’” said Lord-Morales. “So, I set goals and said ’okay this is where I think we need some changes, I think I can make an impact’ and then I just put my eyes on it and I obtained it.” Lord-Morales humbly says that the reward is to give to her community. “Whether that’s providing medical care, knowledge or education so that people can provide care for themselves,” said Lord-Morales. “For instance, teaching folks how to do first aid training and enabling them to care for their community or someone else.” Lord-Morales professes that, despite honorable roles as an Airman, wife and nurse, she is most proud that her nine-year-old daughter and three-year-old son see her achieve these amazing feats. “What’s more rewarding is having my kids see it,” said LordMorales. “Especially having a little girl and hearing her say ’hey that’s my mom! Having my nine-year-old daughter out there and being that example for her so that she can carry that around feels great.” The 10th EAEF is a deployed, Total Force unit responsible for inter-theater AE operations in support of U.S. Transportation Command taskings in the European Command, Central Command and Africa Command areas of responsibility. The flight is attached to the 721st Mobility Support Squadron, one of ten squadrons under the 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing. Both the squadron and wing headquarters are tenant units on Ramstein AB.

Nineteen military teams from five different countries on the pitch make the venue look like the start of an MWR-organized World Cup, with a world championship at stake. Behind an event of such a big scale — 204 participants and more than 400 spectators — stood an amazing Army Support Activity-Black Sea MWR Team, assisted by 10 equally amazing volunteers. Hardy added that helping the Soldiers and those using MWR equipment and participating in MWR events is what really counts. ”Helping my fellow MWR colleagues offer the best possible MWR activities and events, and organizing the first Army Support ActivityBlack Sea multinational soccer tournament for the U.S. and NATO troops has really made this time worthwhile.” While NATO partners are working together at ASA Black Sea, when it came to the tournament, there could only be one winner, with a team from Romania taking the title. But the hundreds who enjoyed the MWR and Hardy-led effort all came away with a “W.”

With the tournament ended, Hardy has redeployed to the Novo Selo Training Area, to bring that same MWR energy and effort he demonstrated here to the multinational forces in Bulgaria. And his help was greatly appreciated by everyone, colleagues and clients alike. Elena Nisiparu, Hardy’s MWR teammate, welcomed his enthusiasm and energy. “Cedrick has been a great help for us so we can provide the same level of service to an increased number of clients. He was always there for anyone who needed assistance, and brought in great positive energy,” Nisiparu said. “I had a lot to learn from him. He will be missed when he goes back to USAG Rheinland-Pfalz.”

The Ramstein Chapel is accepting bids for a Ramstein Contemporary Service Coordinator from April 29 to May 13, 2022. The contractor shall provide all personnel, labor, materials, and transportation to provide non-personal service in support of the Ramstein Contemporary Service as located in the KMC. Randall Reed, Third Air Force and Kaiserslautern Military Community commander, has monthly meetings with local leaders at the GermanAmerican Community Office in downtown Kaiserslautern to discuss issues of mutual interest. Reed met with Martina Stein, the City Mayor of Otterberg, at the GACO this past March and accepted an invitation to visit her city and see how it supports the 56,000 Americans living in the KMC. “The conversation with [Reed] was very pleasant,” Stein said. “I found it very remarkable that he took the time for the exchange, in view of the tense situation in Eastern Europe. The conversation led to him visiting Otterberg a short time later to promote our small town to the American community. For this, my heartfelt thanks.” The KMC commander visited the 5,000-person city on April 20 to build on German-American relations and increase communication

with key stakeholders in the region. Reed also took time to explore the historic village - his tour included the Otterberg Abbey Church and a virtual-reality wagon ride. “Mayors and other public officials in Rhineland-Palatinate are taking care of our servicemembers and their families every single day,” Reed said. “Therefore, it is only natural that I speak with them about how we can continue to support each other.” The state of RhinelandPalatinate hosts a significant portion of the U.S. servicemembers stationed in Germany. According to Roberto da Costa, 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs host nation advisor, this adds to the importance of hostnation relations near Ramstein Air Base. “German officials here are greatly interested in integrating Americans into their local communities, and seek close ties with military leadership to achieve this goal,” da Costa said. “The laws, legislature and community programs in RLP directly affect U.S. personnel and their families.”

AFREP: We can fix it Story and photos by Airman 1st Class Madelyn Keech 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs The U.S. Air Force Repair Enhancement Program saves the Air Force millions of dollars annually by providing resources to repair equipment at installations worldwide. The 86th Maintenance Squadron recently started a local AFREP chapter at Ramstein, and has saved the Air Force about $90,000 since February. “AFREP is a program that will help sustain the force and enable us to make repairs to assets that would otherwise be demeaned nonrepairable,” Senior Master Sgt. Jason Parvin, 86th MXS superintendent, said. “This program extends beyond the aircraft maintenance piece and can have a positive impact on all base agencies.” The 86th MXS is ready to assist units that fall under the 86th Airlift Wing and other organizations within the Kaiserslautern Military Community that have items that need repair or replacements. “The 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron dropped off 29 headsets and 49 TruLink receivers,” Master Sgt. Kyle Shoup, 86 MXS AFREP manager, said. “I have repaired 16 of each so far, fixing anything from corrosion or broken

wires to missing parts, which can be 3D printed.” AFREP can assess repair for nearly any item that deteriorates over time to extend its service life and relieve the pressure of waiting for replacements. “A basic example would be a vacuum breaking because the cord has been damaged or cut,” said Shoup. “AFREP can easily repair that, the only investment is the technician’s time. Now replace the word ‘vacuum’ with any other item.” Units with items that need repair can bring them to the 86th MXS building 2219, or call the DSN for AFREP, 480-8008. Shoup will then diagnose and fix the item, if possible.

because I chose the environmental way to travel. Confession time: we took an airplane back home. We earned some Flygskam for that choice: Swedish flight shame for choosing a less-environmentally friendly method. The reality is that I chose to take the Snälltåget (pronounced Shnahl-torget) because overnight trains are fun! Getting aboard the Snälltåget “It’s our train!” my son yells from a fairly vacant train platform high above the Berlin Hauptbahnhof. It’s nearly nine o’clock at night. We have our takeout dinner, purchased at a discount as the Berlin train station food court was closing. We each have a backpack with all our travel items, and we are ready to settle in for the night. “We need car 218,” I told the kids. “It’s down there.” We follow my son to the right car. The eight cars were well-labeled with signs on the doorways. “Which compartment?” he asked. “I don’t know. It only lists our seat numbers. 81. 85. and 86.” “Are they together?” I laughed. “They better be!” Three compartments into the train car and we discovered that, indeed, our seats were together. The seat numbers were clearly marked on the outside of each compartment. Sleeping on the train The sleeping compartments inside the Snälltåget are comfy. The door and hall-side wall are glass which allows light during the day. But, they also have thick curtains for privacy overnight. Under the window is a small table and 6 USB plugs for charging. There was supposed to be wifi, but we found it intermittent at best. There are six bunks per compartment: three per side. When we boarded, the three seats on one side were already lowered into beds for overnight. On the opposite side, the two lower beds were left in ‘seat mode’ and the highest bunk ready for sleeping. The lower bunks were pretty tight; not quite enough headspace to sit up. But, the upper bunks had lots of headroom as they were in the roof of the train car. Our large backpacks were easily stowed in the overhead storage near the upper bunks, or under the lowest bunk. Snälltåget means “the kind train” in Swedish The Snälltåget runs from Germany to Sweden nightly from April to September. They also run a couple of routes into the Swedish mountains. It is a small train company which refurbishes old train cars for reuse. They also use a significant amount of green energy for running their fleet of electric trains. The primary route goes from Berlin to Stockholm, or the reverse. Early in the morning, there are stops in Copenhagen, Malmo, and Lund. There are also stops in seven other

small towns on the way to Stockholm. The Snälltåget departs Berlin around 9 p.m. in the evening. There is also the option to board in Hamburg just before midnight. It arrives the next day in Stockholm around 2 p.m.. The first stop outside of Germany, in Denmark, is around 2 a.m. for a passport check. Though a bit irritating to wake up at this time, the conductor and passport control personnel use a flashlight and stay as quiet as possible. Booking the Snälltåget There are a few important things to note when booking the Snälltåget. Use DB to get to Berlin From Kaiserslautern, it is easy to book a Deutsche Bahn ticket to Berlin (or Hamburg). It includes a single change in Mannheim onto the ICE that goes to Berlin. I chose to go to Berlin because the prices were cheaper during my trip, there were more times available, and the boarding time for the Snälltåget in Berlin is at a normal bedtime. Use the official website The booking site is www.snalltaget.se and has an English option. You will be emailed the tickets. They are valid saved on your phone.

A day prior to your trip, expect another detailed email with additional information like platform numbers and food options. Routing There are often two same-price options: one with a change in Malmo, and the other without. If you choose the option with a change, you are simply being moved to a different carriage on the same train because a few of the carriages are removed in Malmo. Choose “no change” to stay in the same berth the entire trip; this will book you in a carriage that continues on the entire route to Stockholm. Seating There are regular reclining seats that can be booked for really cheap rates. But, overnight compartments are more comfortable. The compartments have 6 spots. You can choose to book a “private compartment” in which case you pay for all 6 places. Choosing a “shared compartment” means other guests can be seated with you, though the train books all parties separately first. I booked a shared compartment and only used 3 seats. A woman quietly joined us in Hamburg and departed in Malmo. You can ask the conductor when you board whether or not to expect any

additions in the compartment. You do not get to pick your seats. The system automatically assigns upper berths first since they have more space and allow for the lower beds to remain in seat formation. Food There is a restaurant onboard called the Krogen with drinks and snacks. After Malmo (in the morning) it is open with hot food. When booking, you can pre-order breakfast and book a seat at the restaurant for lunch. On our trip, we woke around 8 in the morning while the train was shunting the rear cars away. We walked down to the Krogen (the pub) for some coffee and picked up our pre-ordered breakfast. It included coffee, a juice, and a breakfast sandwich with meat and cheese. During Operation Allies Refuge, the 39th Movement Control Team, of the 16th Sustainment Brigade, worked hand in hand with the U.S. Air Force at Ramstein Air Base. The joint partnership allowed for successful mission execution of the largest air evacuation and relocation in airlift history - it was quite the feat! U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John Frazier, 86th Force Support Squadron commander, who was also intricately involved with OAR operations management, bestowed awards to multiple members of the 39 MCB for this successful operation. The cooperation and synchronization between our various military branches is what makes the American military such an elite force.
