Get to know: Saomara Larreal In this edition, lets get to know Saomara Larreal, Director, 3M Global Channel Services.

Achievements

Where do you live? I live in Stillwater, MN. In a hobby farm concept, where I can enjoy nature 24/7 even from inside my home, where all I can see from my windows is nature. I am 20 minutes away from the cities, though, so it is effortless to access when I need a dose of the city.

How long have you worked for 3M? I’ve been part of 3M for 25 fantastic years What have you felt most proud of accomplishing? Making my parents and son proud of me is one of my most significant personal accomplishments; from a career perspective, I’m proud of the results of a few really challenging projects throughout the years.

What is your hidden talent? I love interior design, and I like to think that is a talent, or at least a talent I’m working on developing.

Tell us about your family, who you live with? We are a family of four: my husband David, my son Valentin, our dog Lola and me. Valentin recently moved to Huston to continue software engineering studies there, so for now, David, Lola, and I are at home.

What things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

When I moved from Venezuela (a tropical country), I had to re-learn how to have fun differently. In our spare time, we do a lot of bonfires (I love bonfires!), paddleboard during summer, take care of my flowers, and ALWAYS have a design project around the house.

What is your favorite place to visit and why? My favorite place is the beach, wherever it is in the world. At the beach, I feel joyful and connected to the earth. I can enjoy the water and the sunset and have lots of fun. But the main reason is that it reminds me of my childhood, family, and roots.

Would you Rather – winter or summer for the rest of your life and why?

Summer, no doubt. I like to walk barefoot outside in nature, which is a practice I do to focus on the "what is“ and the "now". The snow makes it a little complicated.

If money was no issue at all, what would you buy? ...mmm, a big airplane. Because of the crisis in my home country, I have so many family and friends dispersed worldwide... I would love to be able to go see them as often as I would like. Also, to help reunite families who cannot travel and haven't seen each other for a long time. I do not have the airplane at the moment, but at least I have the pilot - my husband, willing to take off when it is time.

Please share with us your favorite joke. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.

I have two grown up sons and live in Amersham, near London, with an old town registered in the Domesday records of 1086 and the highest station on the underground network.

During August, Trent Blinkman, Customer Facing Americas Vice President, embarked on a significant journey to Latin America.

He visited Brazil, Costa Rica, and México. This visit was not merely a diplomatic mission but a profound opportunity to foster unity, engagement, and dialogue among teams, addressing various critical topics.

In the 3 countries, there were special Moments that Matter with Communication Meetings, Roundtables, Lunches, and Dinners that made people feel much more engaged in the Americas Region and increased their sense of belonging.

Goals of the Visit There were a number of goals to achieve during this visit: • Trent aimed to bring together a cohesive, collaborative, and empowered team that works together.

• Prioritizing the needs of customers, business groups, and the company was a central theme of the visit.

• Exploring Future Initiatives: Discussions ranged from SpinCo to upcoming ventures like Service Automation 3.0 and Value Creation.

• Listening and Dialogue: An integral part of the visit involved addressing team questions, learning from the local teams, and fostering meaningful dialogue.

• First Visit to LATAM as VP: This visit held a special significance as it was the Trent’s first visit to Latin America in this role.

Did you make it to the finish line in New York?

From 11th September to 8th October, 97 ECO teams have been actively moving, ideally increasing their activity from normal, to travel from Chicago to New York in the Global Get Moving Challenge. Participation spans across the globe with 703 people involved.

Results: We have had 42 teams complete the full route into New York and actually 5 teams made the journey back to Chicago as well! Together we logged 115,644.7 kms (71,858.3 miles) which converts to 168,694,372 steps!

During these visits she shared updates within Townhall, met with teams and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality and positivity from our people in EMEA.

“Appreciation is the act of recognizing someone's worth as a person or showing that you are grateful for something that person has done.”

Recently we recognized ECO Appreciation Week, 9-13th October. Across the globe, there were numerous activities, in-person, virtual and hybrid, that people could participate in.

Activities varied from Kahoot games, to YamJam events, breakfast get togethers to Wellness Exercises and the creation of a collaborative cookbook. Crazy dress themes, appreciation walls and team dinners also featured in many countries.

We look forward to creating a display of all these activities to showcase in the next edition of ECO Mag-A-Zine.

For the last 20+ years, 3M Canada has been the main sponsor for United Way’s annual campaign kick-off, with the 3M Harvest Lunch.

Pauline Handfield has volunteered at this event every year. The event took place in September. Here is a picture of the 3M’ers who participated in serving 1000+ lunches!
