FUN FACT

Meritage purchased a full wooded 31 acres that was covered in a dense forest or, what some called them in the 1950’s, woodlands. The Flowers family rode horses on several trails that led through this forest to Buffalo Creek. Ms. Flowers recalls as a child playing on a “Sawdust” hill that was very old and now deemed dangerous. There were family picnics and, the 31 acres that was to become what is now known as “Forrest,” was quite a fun retreat for all of the family members. When the Foundation was asked for approved names, Forest was one of the names given. The “Woodlands” name had already been used in a previous community. While there are no beautiful pine and evergreen trees there now, the community has a history of years gone by and additionally beautiful homes by Meritage.
