CYBER SECURITY ADVICE

from Data Manager, Anthony Cauzillo

Anthony Cauzillo oversees the IT and Data for Flowers Plantation, including information tracking, networking and data information.

Cyber Security Reminder:

Don’t Let Scam Emails Catch You Off Guard

Email is a powerful tool that can allow you to instantly communicate and share files with anyone, anywhere in the world. You also use an email address to create a wide range of accounts, from streaming services to financial institutions. Scammers know this and often target people with messages that look surprisingly real.

The truth is, it only takes one click on the wrong link to cause a big headache or lose personal information or money. But the good news? You don’t need to be a tech expert to spot a scam.

Here Are Some Common Red Flags To Keep An Eye On:

• A strong sense of urgency – Scammers want you to panic and act fast. If an email says things like “Your account will be closed!” or “Act now or lose access!”, take a step back before reacting. Real companies don’t pressure you like that.

• Suspicious email addresses – Just because the name says “Amazon” or “Medicare” doesn’t mean it’s legit. Hover over (but don’t click!) the sender’s address and look closely. If the email address doesn’t match the company name or looks weird, it’s probably a scam.

• Unexpected attachments – Be cautious if you receive an attachment you weren’t expecting. Sometimes hackers will compromise a real account you know and send fake files that contain a virus or software that steals your info. When in doubt, call or contact the person another way to verify the file is real.

• Poor spelling or grammar – Reputable companies check their emails carefully. If the message has a lot of mistakes or sounds off, it likely didn’t come from where it claims.

It's Also Smart To Remember

• Don’t click on links if you’re unsure. Go directly to the company’s website by typing the address into your browser instead.

• Never share personal information like your Social Security number, passwords, or bank details through email.

• If in doubt, call the company using a number you trust— not the one in the email.

You’ve got good instincts so trust them. If something feels “off,” it probably is. Taking a few seconds to double-check can save you a lot of trouble down the road. Stay sharp and stay safe!

Join us for fresh, locally sourced produce and artisanal goods, supporting our local growers and makers! Friendly reminder, there will be No Farmers Market in July. We will resume in August and look forward to seeing you all there!

THE EMBERS

featuring Craig Woolard

There are many bands or groups today, yet few are considered musical institutions. The Embers featuring Craig Woolard, have solidified their position as a thriving musical entity, leaving their mark on listeners for decades. They are widely considered a musical MARVEL and have laid the groundwork for what has become known as ‘Beach Music’ in the Carolinas, Virginias, the gulf coast region of North America, and every beach in between. They are a true musical tradition many Americans have listened to from childhood to adulthood. The Embers featuring Craig Woolard consider the genre of Beach Music as “music with a memory” and have been creating lasting memories since its inception in 1958. Simply put – Heart and Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Feel Good Music.

Concert Parking: Please park in the gravel lot across Pineville Blvd and use the crosswalk to safely reach the concert area. Let’s keep the main lot available for customers visiting the stores and restaurants that remain open during the event.

Outside Alcohol: No outside alcohol is permitted in Concert Park. Beer and wine will be available from our onsite vendors, so come thirsty—but please leave your own beverages at home.

Seating & Shade: Lawn chairs are always welcome! Tents, however, are discouraged and will only be permitted near the end closest to Petco to ensure everyone has a clear view of the stage.

We can't wait to see you there!

Cornerstone of the Community

HARRIS TEETER AT FLOWERS CROSSROADS

In the heart of Flowers Crossroads within Flowers Plantation stands one of North Carolina’s favorite local grocery retailers - Harris Teeter. What began as a vision from Ms. Flowers came to life in 2013, when the first Harris Teeter in Johnston County opened its doors— becoming a vital anchor for the Flowers Crossroads area and a key part of the community’s legacy.

Despite concerns about attracting a major retailer to an unincorporated area not within city limits, perseverance, vision, and strong collaboration between Flowers Plantation and the dedicated Harris Teeter team made the store a reality. Since its opening, this location has consistently experienced support from the community, solidifying its status as more than just a supermarket.

With an in-store Starbucks, the store has become a favorite spot for quick coffee breaks and casual meetups. The floral department is renowned for its beautiful arrangements, with fresh flowers a common sight leaving the store daily. The fresh produce, handcrafted subs, pizzas, and an outstanding deli selection continue to make this location a standout across the state. Following the store’s overwhelming success, the Harris Teeter Fuel Center opened just a few years later, providing residents with convenient access to fuel, snacks, and beverages—further enhancing the shopping experience at Flowers Plantation.

We are incredibly proud of the leadership and staff at our local Harris Teeter, who work tirelessly to serve our community and contribute to the area's continued growth and vibrancy. Their support during our annual Concert Series events at Concert Park, and seasonal offerings like summer grilling and plant displays, highlight their commitment to being more than a grocery store—they are a true community partner. Stop by and experience everything our Flowers Plantation Harris Teeter has to offer, and see why it continues to be a store that everyone is proud of.

SERVING AS STUDENT LEADERS

at Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation

As fifth graders, we appreciate being able to grow leadership skills within our school. One of the ways we do this is by embodying certain qualities of a Thales Academy student as outlined in our Top 15 Outcomes.

For example, a Thales Academy student must:

• Show a strong work ethic both in and outside of the classroom.

• Be a cooperative and contributive team member when working together.

• Be a virtuous leader who is a role model for their peers.

• Show unfailing integrity by doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

We are able to strengthen these qualities as we lead—safety patrol, clean-up crew, campus greeters, and mentoring our younger peers.

• When assigned to safety patrol duty, we are expected to bring kindergartners and first graders to their assigned cones safely and responsibly during afternoon carpool.

• Those serving on clean-up crew sweep and take out the trash in classrooms.

• As campus greeters, we open the door and welcome prospective families to monthly tours, greet families during

school events, pass out programs at school performances, and help organize supplies gathered during our community service projects.

All of these things help our school remain beautiful and welcoming.

As you can see, these roles give fifth graders like us the opportunity to grow leadership skills all while cultivating a positive and caring school community. We will make the world a better place and uphold traditional American values. Serving our school in this way helps us show gratitude and keep a healthy mind, body, and spirit. We love being student leaders at Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation.

Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation serves Pre-K through high school.

THE SELMA CYCLEPATHS

The

Selma Cyclepaths ride to raise money in order to bring

awareness and financial support for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

What is MS? Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Today, an estimated 2.9 million people around the world have MS.

MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition of the brain and spinal cord. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates nerves. In MS, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain. Symptoms can include blurred vision, weak limbs, tingling sensations, unsteadiness, memory problems, and fatigue to name a few.

Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40. MS is two to three times more common in women than in men. There is no drug that can cure MS, but treatments are available which can modify the course of the disease.
