7 PM CST, CLOSEOUT BIDDING ON DLMS FARM GATE

29 YEARLING
& EXTRA AGE RED & BLACK BULLS

Each year we proudly get the help bring welcome on behalf of the Rainbow River Simmentals program to their annual bull sale and we are excited to introduce the 3rd farmgate format as part of the 8th annual bull sale for Jennilee & Dustin. The 2023 offering features their largest offering to date, with the same great quality you have come to expect, just with more of them. Their extensive ET program as well as Ai and powerful walking bulls has given you a chance to purchase many half, three-quarter and full brothers, with the opportunity to utilize similar genetics to ultimately give you a more uniform calf crop. The vision, fortitude and dedication at Rainbow River is very evident and their never ending strides forward to obtain the best genetics to assemble the powerful herd of cows they have to raise the stout set of bulls on offer is as exciting here as anywhere and we know when you analyze the stock on offer, you will be very impressed. These bulls are sound and built to last and thrive in any environment. Not only are they backed by industry leading genetics, they are monitored hard and have to go through several culling stages with a strict criteria guide to make it to cataloging time. Jen knows that bulls sell on every corner of the country every day and that only the best are kept around to be offered up for your appraisal. We applaud Jennilee & Dustin for their efforts in breeding functional cattle to put out into the beef industry and know the top commercial cattleman that source their bulls here and the many seed stock producers that have invested into a Rainbow River herd bull certainly reap the benefits of the ground work already laid out for them. There truly is ho guess work when it comes to a Rainbow River bull. We recommend giving Jen or Dustin a call to visit about the bulls, your own program and what may best suit your needs. The options of calving ease or power bulls is plentiful and they are backed by super mama cows. If any of us listed from Bohrson Marketing Services can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us as we have been through the bulls and know the program well. We look forward to discussing this great offering with you.

RACEHORSE STYLE BIDDING WITH DLMS FARM GATE

Bidding Opens: Thursday, March 9 at 9:00 am CST

Sale Closes with Extended Bidding: Friday, March 10 at 7:00 pm CST

Welcome to our 8th Annual Bull Sale! 2023 marks the third year for us to use the online sale format with DLMS Farm Gate. We’ve been really happy with how the Farm Gate sale works and have received a lot of positive feedback from our customers, so we’re sticking with it! As always, we welcome and encourage you to come down and see the bulls in person prior to sale day, and I’m always happy to tour you through the cow herd to show you the cow families backing any bulls that might interest you. Sometimes getting away to tour bulls is just not possible, and we understand that. That’s why we try to do a very good job of giving you complete details on the bulls in the catalogue. In addition to our catalogue, we do our best to video our bulls from every angle so you can get a good idea of what the bull looks like and how he moves. I am always just a phone call, email or text message away to answer questions as well. No one knows my bulls better than I do, so if you’re looking for some assistance in working through the offering, I’m always happy to help.

Our 2023 offering is the largest set of bulls on offer to date. We continue to work towards bigger numbers for our sale as our goal is to provide an offering of 40-50 quality bulls each year, but quality will never be compromised just for the sake of reaching a number target. The 29 bulls in this catalogue are deserving of your appraisal. We hope you like what you see. There are a half dozen heifer safe options and a nice selection of power and easier calving cow bulls to choose from.

Thankfully, 2022 was a much better year than 2021. We were flooded for the entire spring, which made spring feeding and breeding, seeding and pasture turn out very stressful. The cattle were turned out into pastures on June 1 that had several inches of standing water laying across most of the acres. The water in most areas was ankle deep on the cattle, and some paddocks were off limits due to being completely submerged. It wasn’t until later in June when that water finally absorbed into the ground and I was able to drive a truck amongst the cows to do pasture checks. As frustrating as the excess moisture was, the sting of culling a chunk of the herd and the stresses we felt from lack of feed due to the 2021 drought were still very fresh in our minds, so we tolerated the wet conditions as best we could knowing that we were in a much better position to be wet with a lot of grass for the cattle to eat rather than bone dry with no grass and swarmed by hoards of grasshoppers. With the grass being very water logged last summer, the bull’s weaning weights are down from normal years, but that seems to be par for the course with most people we’ve talked to over the past year. We went into winter with our dugouts fully charged and thankfully, we have had a very good winter thus far, so our fingers are crossed for 2023 to finally give us the equilibrium year we’re hoping for!

Life has been very different for Dustin and I over the last year. Our now 19 month old son keeps us on our toes and makes it much more challenging to get “out of routine” things done, such as picturing or videoing bulls, standard calving season chores, or even just giving “mama” some quiet time to sit

down and get this sale catalogue put together! We are thankful that my parents live just a few miles away and they are a huge help with watching Layne when Dustin and I need a day to get some big tasks completed or caught up on life. Layne keeps us smiling and laughing though, no doubt about that! He loves to be outside and is tractor crazy. He enjoys being in the calving barn and has zero fear of the cattle, but he still seems to like tractors more. He can accurately imitate the sounds that all of our farm animals make (you should hear his donkey impersonation!) and he enjoys playing with his toy tractors while making tractor sounds. We have a very cute little farm boy on our hands and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

With that said though, this January has been very chaotic for me trying to juggle managing the growing cattle program and a young family. Dustin and I have been brainstorming some new ideas to implement for next year. It’s time to find a way to streamline what we do so that I’m not being run flat out every January trying to calve cows, prep for this bull sale, and still somehow find time to raise my family. Stay tuned for some new announcements as we move further into 2023.

And to wrap up this year’s welcome, I’ve saved the most exciting part for last! 2022 ended up being an enormous investment year for Rainbow River Simmentals. After hunting for a new herd bull for several years, I finally found the bull that checked off every box on my criteria list. In March, we made an enormous investment into R Plus Mandate 1044J, purchasing him for $160,000. Mandate’s first calves are on the ground now and they have exceeded our extremely high expectations so far. They have come small, early, fast and easy, and their vigour is outstanding! I am excited to watch those calves develop over the next year as I expect them to be curve benders like Mandate. I cannot wait to present a large selection of Mandate’s sons in our 2024 bull sale! In addition to buying Mandate, three very respected breeders in the Simmental breed dispersed their herds at the end of 2022. We invested heavily into a number of top donors, cows and heifers from each program. Many of those females will be flushed this spring and in future years to build on my goal of supplying some of the best Simmental cattle in the industry. We are proud of the new cattle we have selected and as such, we have featured our new and exciting herd sires and donor females on pages 11 to 15 of this catalogue.

All the best to you in 2023 and thanks for your interest in our program!

• Rainbow River Simmentals will assist with the necessary health testing, vet exams and paperwork required to export your animal, but all export fees are the responsibility of the buyer.

• In order to cover the cost of veterinarian charges required to export your animal, a fee of $375 USD per animal purchased will be charged for this service and is due at the time of settlement.

• Complete breeder guarantee details are available on the Canadian Simmental Association website at www.simmental.com or under the Terms and Conditions specified in this catalogue.

IN-HERD SEMEN COLLECTION

Rainbow River Simmentals reserves the right to collect semen on any bull sold through this sale. The semen collection will be at Rainbow River Simmentals’ expense and the buyer’s convenience. Any semen collected will be for Rainbow River Simmentals’ in-herd use only.

WEANING DATES

Bulls were weaned on September 26, 2022 using the fence line weaning process.

HEALTH

All bulls have been on a total herd health program since birth. They have been vaccinated and treated with:

• Pyramid 5 + Presponse in February and at weaning

• Tasvax 8 in February and May

• Fermicon 7/Somnugen at weaning

• Safe Guard oral paste at weaning

• Clean Up II for external parasites in June and November

NUTRITION

• Bulls have been developed on free choice alfalfa haylage, millet silage and native grass hay.

• A custom Blueprint bull ration from Masterfeeds is limit fed daily. The custom ration is formulated to balance energy requirements without overfeeding protein, and also provides the highest quality Blueprint mineral pack which includes vitamins, 100% chelated minerals and a combination of Alltech technologies that help with gut, hoof and coat health.

• Riomax PG360 mineral tubs and blue salt are also fed free choice.

• Their diet has been formulated to balance protein, energy, vitamin and mineral intake as they develop throughout the fall and winter. The bull ration is limit fed daily to control concentrate intake and encourage forage intake, while promoting growth and longevity.

• As we approach sale day, we gradually step our bulls off their bull ration, very slowly, over several weeks. We do this to gradually re-adapt our bulls to consuming a 100% forage diet. We realize that our bulls may not receive concentrate supplementation after delivery to our customers. If they do, great! But if not, our step-down approach prevents our bulls from falling apart due to abrupt changes in diet after delivery to our customers.

GESTATION LENGTH

• We use a 285 day gestation period.

• The heritability of gestation length is moderately high.

• Gestation length influences a calf’s BW and a cow’s calving interval.

• All bulls have their gestation length specified in this catalogue, except for embryo transfer (ET) calves. This is because the age and genetics of the recipient dam could influence the ET calf’s gestation length, making it a potentially inaccurate indicator of the ET calf’s actual inherited gestation potential.

HOMO POLLED & COAT COLOUR

• All bulls have homo polled and coat colour results specified in this catalogue.

• If their polled and coat colour status could not be determined through parentage, then DNA testing was performed to obtain their results.

• “Homo” is short for Homozygous, i.e.) Homozygous Polled

• “Hetero” is short for Heterozygous, i.e.) Heterozygous Polled

• A red animal born out of two black parents will be diluter free.

• A Diluter Carrier carries one dilution gene and one non-dilution gene. Diluter Carriers can pass either gene onto their progeny, therefore some calves may express a diluted coat colour while other calves have a normal coat colour.

• If they do pass a dilution gene onto their progeny, a black calf will be diluted to grey and a dark red calf will be diluted to light red.

• If they pass a non-dilution gene onto their progeny, a black calf will be black and a dark red calf will be dark red.

What do the results mean?

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE

DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction

1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS FarmGate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favourite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid, and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions, simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favourite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favourite list, you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This, in fact, protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. For example, if the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you. But if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and manually bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In most cases, the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time, the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Following the sale, the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale. Please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.

For more info and assistance with bidding contact any of the sale contacts listed on the DLMS website; DLMS FarmGate Timed Auctions ~ Mark Shologan Ph: 780-699-5082

FAQ:

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to either continue bidding on one or more specific lots, or change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time, the clock for close extends by 5 minutes with any bid placed on any lot in the sale within that 5 minute window. This type of extended bidding turns the end time into more of a soft close. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and gives all bidders the same time to make a decision. If you get outbid on your first lot of interest during extended bidding, you can switch to bid on your second lot of interest if desired. Always follow the countdown clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Animals and frozen genetics become the risk of the buyer as soon as sold.

INSURANCE: We insist that all animals remaining at Rainbow River Simmentals after the sale MUST be insured.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements and updates made at the commencement of online bidding will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements and updates.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry registration papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association, unless otherwise specified in the catalogue. A certificate of registration will be transferred to the buyer for each animal purchased after settlement has been made in full.

SHIPPING: For live animal and frozen genetic lots, delivery is not included. Assistance will be given in arranging shipping after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the seller or any sales staff. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the buyer. Buyers are requested to furnish shipping instructions after the conclusion of the sale. If you need assistance, please contact the seller.

EMBRYO GUARANTEE: 1 - 90 day pregnancy per pack of 3 embryos, or 2 - 90 day pregnancies per pack of 5 embryos, if implanted by an accredited veterinarian. Replacement embryos will either be the same embryos as purchased or those of equal value. If no replacement embryos are available, then a credit will be issued. A maximum of two replacement embryos will be issued for each pack of 3. For each pack of 5, two replacement embryos will be issued if the original embryos resulted in 1 - 90 day pregnancy; or four replacement embryos will be issued if the original embryos resulted in 0 - 90 day pregnancies. In the event that your conception rates of the purchased embryos do not meet the minimum guaranteed, notification of inadequate conception must be made to the seller within 120 days of implanting and proof of implanting will be required. This embryo guarantee expires after 120 days post-implanting.

BREEDER GUARANTEE: All animals are sold under the standard terms and guarantees as set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA). The CSA Breeder Guarantee Guidelines can be found on the reverse side of any registration paper belonging to a bull or female registered with the CSA, or on the CSA website at www.simmental.com. At no time will the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO BREEDER GUARANTEE: This guarantee does not cover death, injury, sickness or mismanagement. No guarantee is given that a bull’s semen will freeze. In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques (i.e. embryo transfer) after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. Animals cannot be returned to Rainbow River Simmentals if not in a sound, healthy condition.

HEALTH: All animals have been on a total herd health program since birth. Specific details are available upon request. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into their province or state.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Rainbow River Simmentals or any sales staff or Association assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale, or viewing cattle on-farm prior to the sale, do so at their own risk and the seller assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller, and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction, and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

CATTLE BRED TO PERFORM IN RUGGED INTERLAKE CONDITIONS

Herd Management

A short 50-day breeding season is utilized each year to insist on high fertility. Our main cow herd is solely fed forages and is not supplemented with grain at any point during the year. We expect our cows to maintain good body condition, rebreed early and raise a quality calf solely on forages and a strong mineral program. This management strategy helps us select for fertile, easy-fleshing cattle who thrive on forages.

The herd is turned out to pasture around June 1 each spring. Our pastures consist mainly of established native grass, low lying slough and peat ground, and low-production, rugged bedrock ridges. Only a small percentage of acres at our home quarter include tame grass. This array of rugged landscapes is the reason we apply so much selection pressure on foot quality and soundness. Unsound cattle can’t handle the wet lowlands or rugged rock terrain of our environment. Likewise, hard doing cattle struggle to maintain body condition with the stresses of rough terrain, predators (coyotes, wolves, bears and cougars) and biting insect (mosquitoes, wood ticks, bulldogs, horse flies, black flies, among others) pressures that we experience here. Rotational grazing is used as much as possible to help maintain pasture quality, but wildlife pressures, rock and bedrock terrain eliminate rotational grazing as an option in 60% of our pasture acres. The herd grazes until snowfall prohibits grazing each year, coinciding with the herd coming home in midNovember or early December. Once at home, winter feeding begins with low quality round bale forage shred into windrows out on pasture. The herd walks to water to keep fit for calving. Three weeks before their expected due date, pregnant cows and heifers are moved into up-close pens and monitored more closely until they calve. Round bale forages such as millet silage, alfalfa-grass haylage, native grass hay and timothy straw are fed in bale rings in corrals from post-calving until pasture turn out.

JNB 30KJan
Lot 1 gets appointed to the bull that I feel offers “the most bull” in the entire offering. He is the biggest framed and longest bull in the pen, and is packed full of red meat from every angle. He is wide over his top and into his hip, yet maintains depth of rib and softness. He stands square and true on all four corners with a good foot under him, plus offers herd bull character through his head and front third. What really seals him into the lot 1 position is his tremendous dam. She is a moderate framed, good footed, impeccably uddered, hard working and very fertile daughter of my deceased Morgan 41C donor that I purchased for $19,000 as an open heifer. Let me tell you, 24E is hard pressed to be out produced even by our most expensive donors. She is worthy of being flushed and is on our flush roster for this spring. She raised a remarkable full brother to Lot 1 last year but we lost him to an injury mid-summer. Her 2020 son was our feature and high selling black bull two years ago going to JB Livestock for $10,000, and her 2019 son was also one of our sale features three years ago. He sold to Twin Springs Farm Ltd. in SK. 24E simply has not missed a beat regardless of what sire I’ve thrown at her, and neither did her dam. 41C’s story is far too long to fit into this footnote, but she was incredible in her short time in production. The best bulls in the industry are backed by cow families exactly like this one. Buy with confidence! Gestation 289 days. 2022Homo

A very stout power bull and maternal brother by blood to Lot 1. The dams of Lot 1 and Lot 2 are flush sisters and are both highly regarded females here. With the famous RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z donor combined with my Morgan cow family, the maternal strength backing this bull is very strong. I would expect his daughters to be quite good. 55K is moderate in frame, soft made and very thick and wide through his hip. He has been a standout since day one with his attractive look, natural muscling and dimension. I thought highly enough of him early on to halter break him as a calf. If we would have taken a show string out in 2022, he would have been part of it. Gestation 287 days.

This is the natural calf from our Sprinkles donor who has been doing a great job in production. Her flush to Tycoon yielded us a $15,000 son and $9250 daughter, plus some beautiful replacement females. Her flush to Dynasty resulted in a $20,100 son in November for Millington Ranch who purchased Sprinkles’ embryos from our fall production sale a couple years ago. Dean and I also have some really nice replacement heifers in our keeper pens from that mating. Her other sons to date have been sale features as well, including Lots 8 and 9 in this sale and about a half a dozen others that we’ve sold over the last few years. No surprise, this cross with Supercharged has proven to be very predictable. Sprinkle’s previous natural calf is a full sister to 23K and she is beautiful in her type with a perfect udder that milks well. She has a fancy little Impact heifer at side that looks very exciting. I think the production potential from this bull is very strong. If his daughters look anything like his full sister and dam, they will be a bunch to build around. His performance has been at the top of the pen all year and he can be appreciated for his good foot that comes standard in Sprinkles progeny, extra frame and depth of rib. Gestation 287 days.

In my mind, this bull is probably the most structurally correct bull in the whole offering. He has great foot and leg structure, is square hipped, soft made and offers extra extension from end to end, plus nice hair and an attractive head. He tends to catch your eye more than once when looking through the bulls. His dam is a favourite Impact daughter and has really been producing well so far. She is a pet, as was his granddam. His great granddam and great great granddam were both really good foundation cows from our “Blackie” cow family, both of which were flushed in past years. This is another strategically bred bull where I was focusing on maximizing maternal strength by stacking 202Z onto this highly productive cow family. My only reservation with this bull is that he gets a little nervous when he is singled out of the group. He has been fine to run through the chute any time we’ve handled him and he doesn’t mind visitor traffic through the pen at all. But if we single him out, he can get a bit upheaded. Another very typical Supercharged son that carries his stamp with muscle shape and depth of body. I like the easy going mannerism of this bull and have always noticed the extra depth of heel that he offers. His dam is an ET daughter of the Blacksand Linette 934W donor that has produced well for Come As U R. 49G has been producing well here so far and she was featured on the front cover of our bull sale catalogue last year. 49G is a big capacity female with a good milking udder and super disposition. We really like the Riddler cows that we have in production. They all milk well and are very quiet. A flush brother to this bull’s dam was also a feature in our 2020 bull sale selling to Cloet Farms. 33K’s maternal sister by Impact is very big barrelled, soft made and has a nice, tidy, udder that milks well. If you’d be looking to keep daughters from this bull, I would expect their udders to be very good. Gestation 290 days.

This feature bull has been a standout his entire life. A maternally bred bull with his Tycoon x Poker Face x Line Drive cross. He is unique being a black Tycoon son, there’s not very many black Tycoon’s out there. Plus, with Tycoon deceased and his semen hard to come by, a Tycoon son this good would prove to be a wise investment right now. We love our Tycoon daughters in production. They have exceeded our expectations as mother cows and have beautiful udders that milk really well. The dam of this bull has been a good producer for Spring Creek and myself, with a beautiful daughter just selling at the Spring Creek dispersal for $8000. Two flush sisters to 42B are also working here, one of which is the beautiful granddam of Lot 14. This bull’s granddam, Linne 6R, was also the granddam of Springcreek Gold Standard. This bull is one of the thickest hipped bulls on offer and he carries that thickness up over his topline quite well. A heavy haired bull, he should add some winter insulation to his calves. He has a very easy going disposition. We sold a flush brother that patterned in much the same way in last year’s sale to MSE Land and Cattle Co. Ltd. in SK. There’s a very nice set of curve-bender numbers on this bull despite his heavier actual BW. His recip dam is an old girl that always puts too much BW into her calves, whether it’s a natural or ET calf, it doesn’t matter. His sire, Walk This Way, is a proven calving ease bull that works well on heifers. Given the pedigree and EPD’s backing 61K, he should throw calves with BWs much lighter than his own plus add some pay weight and muscle shape to his calves.

This is a very nice bull that does a lot of things right in moderation. Nothing extreme in any way, but he is very complete. He can add some look, some stretch, some hair. He can add some muscle shape and softness. If you want to keep replacements, he will do that too. Nicely set in at the shoulder with a tidy front third and head, he is built to calve easily. Just a modest BW with good growth in a moderate frame, and a docile disposition. A good foot that is typical of all our Sprinkles progeny, and yes, he has a special dam, too. With his sire being a highly exclusive bull whose semen has never been on the open market, 73K also offers a bit of an outcross pedigree to the black gene pool. He checks a lot of boxes!

Calving Ease. It’s not everyday that a curve bender bull of this quality comes along. Impressive in the flesh and on paper. His numbers are excellent being “in the green” right across the board, and he couldn’t have a more proven dam than Linette - the cow that transformed our program. I could write a whole page on what Linette has done for us over the last 8 years, I just wish she was still with us. Linette always moderated BW in her calves and Walk This Way is a proven curve bender calving ease sire that works well on heifers. 74K is so complete in every way. His photos speak volumes and the only part that you can’t see at the ground is good too. He is a square toed bull with adequate heel, and is smooth jointed. Great hair and a great disposition, and wow, that hip! For a calving ease bull he really puts everything together in a very nice package. I encourage you to seriously consider 74K if you’re looking for a bull that could be used on heifers or cows. With CE and BW EPDs at the top 10% of the breed, MCE at top 2%, and a small 86 lb BW, he has enough calving ease to work in the heifer pen. Plus, acceptable performance data combined with WW and YW EPDs at the top 15 and 10%, gives him enough jam to still be used on cows. To round him out nicely, both API and TI indexes are also ranked at the top 4% and 2%. A very versatile and useful bull with loads of maternal merit is up for grabs here.

This pen favourite really carries the stamp of his $160,000 sire. I saw Reddington in the flesh while on a bull tour a few weeks before he sold and thought he was the most complete red bull to sell that spring. He had tremendous foot quality and I really appreciated his depth of rib and softness of body. His semen got to us late that breeding season but we used it as heavily as possible once it did arrive. 65K ended up being the only Reddington bull we got in the first calf crop, but we really like him and all of the heifers we did get. We will have more Reddington’s on offer in next year’s sale. As a sire group, the Reddington’s are very quiet, and certainly carry on his depth of rib and softness. The dam of 65K is a big framed, big bodied, powerful daughter of our Linette donor. She’s always noticed on pasture tours because of her capacity. I anticipate this bull being able to pass down some extra depth of body, softness and easy doing ability to his calves as it runs generations deep in his lineage. Gestation 295 days.

Our high selling red bull in last year’s sale was a maternal brother to 10K. His young dam knows how to make them right, while adding some style at the same time. Her full brother was our high selling bull last year, going to Kaelberer Simmental Ranch in North Dakota for $12,750. Customer feedback we’ve received on that bull has been very positive. With two of our 2022 high selling bulls stemming from the dam and granddam of 10K, it says a lot about the production potential from our Roxy cow family. 10K is a very typical Dynasty son. I like his fullness of heart, rib capacity, softness and hair quality. He is a very moderate framed bull but is stout hipped and has decent calving numbers, a small BW and a short gestation that he’s inherited from both his dam and grandsire, Impact. Short gestation 278 days.

Big time pedigree from top to bottom on this end of February youngster! His dam and sire are both multiple banner winning show champions, with his dam being the high selling Soda Pop female when she sold alongside her five sisters at Friday Night Lights. 422B has exceeded $250,000 in revenue, including her five daughters sold to date averaging $19,200 with a high of $34,250. She has also placed sons into several breeder programs with the most notable son being Bohrson’s A.I. sire, WHL Red Heat. I purchased the right to flush 422B a few years ago and lucked out with a great result. I have three beautiful flush sisters to 84K in the herd and I hope to gain several more once I implant the rest of the embryos. Keep in mind that 84K is the youngest bull in the pen, but he holds his own in the group. There is a ton of potential in this bull so consider him carefully. It’s hard to make one with a more predictable pedigree.

Calving Ease. This homo polled, homo black curve bender will find himself at home in your heifer pen. He arrived one week ahead of his due date and weighed only 73 lbs, yet still attained a 824 lb WW out of a first calf heifer! Year after year we rely on Impact providing us with a quality selection of sound, performance oriented, heifer safe options that are so right for today’s industry. This bull also offers the typical strong foot quality with good depth of heel that comes standard in this sire group. His dam is a very long bodied, young Riddler daughter with an exceptional udder. Tremendous udder quality is locked into this cow family as his granddam also has a perfect udder that is as good today as it was 6 years ago when she had her first calf. Short gestation 278 days.

Calving Ease. This heifer bull has all the bells and whistles that any purebred or commercial breeder could hope for. He has the look, the numbers and the pedigree to round him into a very complete package. Moderate in frame, he will maintain a useable frame size for breeding heifers years down the road. His overall phenotype is right in so many ways with that nice balanced profile, natural thickness, softness and beautiful hair. His actual BW of only 61 lbs combined with CE, BW and MCE EPDs at the top 1 and 2% of the breed make him a safe bet for the heifer pen. Sired by Impact who is currently the breed’s #1 curve bender sire in the entire CSA herd book for CE to YW spread, 5K’s short gestation and light birth weight are a predictable genetic certainty. His dam is our beautiful Tamale donor who we purchased for $25,000 as an open heifer. She is as beautiful as her photo with an excellent udder beneath her, and 5K is her first natural calf. You will be hearing a lot more from Tamale going forward as we have several ET calves on the ground in 2023 and will be expecting more in future years. She is a female we will be building around. 5K is one of the most complete heifer bull options we have ever offered. Take a good look here! Short gestation 279 days.

I was lucky and got Lots 16 and 17 in this sale, plus three heifers that are in my keeper pen. The Pocahontas cow family has as much fame and recognition within the Labatte program and the Simmental industry as any, and especially the 2Y donor. Her embryos have not been offered for sale very often and when they are available, they sell for a premium. 2Y is as beautiful in the flesh as in her photo - I saw her at Bow Valley a few years ago and she stopped me in my tracks as I walked past her pen. Even amongst the other donors she was standing with, I immediately recognized her. Needless to say, when the opportunity to purchase her Yuma embryos came available, I couldn’t let them pass me by. 40K has always been a bit overshadowed by his red brother, but he is good in his own right. I think he patterns very much like his sire with his extra length of body and trim front third. With a very useful set of numbers, this bull will calve easy and leave you a good set of replacement heifers.

Rainbow River NAVAJO 53K

What can I say about this special feature bull that isn’t already said by his photo and his pedigree? He is what his photo shows. Long, deep, full through his flank, balanced and correct in his lines with that perfect front third and a herd bull head. His feet are good and so is his disposition. Boy, did I ever strike it lucky when Navajo tested homo polled! Dark red cattle are in demand these days and when they come this good, and backed by cows like 2Y and 3007A, the guess work is eliminated. 3007A has been a breeding machine, producing not only one special individual in the $150,000 Yuma, but also a $130,000 full sister that just sold at the R Plus dispersal in December. The special ones always have “the look” from day one and I could tell that Navajo was special from the moment he was born. He has never had a bad day. He’s consistently looked good through every stage of life. He has been picked out by every single visitor to the farm over the past year, sales management included. He has an awesome set of numbers and if you’re wondering why his BW doesn’t match his EPDs, it’s because of his recip dam. She’s a 9 year old cow and as she’s matured, she’s been throwing too much BW into her ET calves over the last three years. Knowing that, I’m pretty certain that Navajo’s calves will come much lighter at birth than he was. We look forward to using this special bull to advance our program as we plan to retain semen for in-herd only use.

This bull has a very nice set of EPDs. His dam is a fertile and productive Spark Plug female that I acquired in-dam when I purchased the 50X cow from Spring Creek Simmentals. 19E’s first calf was a very good Red Summit bull that we sold for just shy of $10,000 to McRuer Simmentals. Her second calf was a very nice Red Express son that we used for clean-up before selling him to MSE Land and Cattle Co. Ltd.. Josh is sure happy with that bull and I am happy with the calves I got out of him. One heifer in particular sits at the very top of my replacements. 19E’s third calf was a very nice Tycoon heifer that I’ve retained in herd. That female calved in January with an incredible udder and a nice calf at side, she looks awesome and I have high hopes for her future. 14K is the fourth effort from 19E and she has since given me a sweet little Walk the Line heifer earlier in January. I should mention that 14K’s granddam, 50X, also raised our best bull in her second year here, but then a breeding injury forced me to cull her that fall. A maternal sister to 19E raised many good bulls for Spring Creek Simmentals up until Brian’s dispersal in December. That cow now calls Silver Lake Farms home. You can rest assured that this bull has a stellar dam and cow family backing him. He should breed true and produce the right kind. Gestation 292 days.

I love the dam of this bull. 9B is a cow that doesn’t know how to fail in production. No matter how I’ve bred her, she’s always made me proud. Weaning off a calf that is as fat as a tick and stands nearly as high as herself is par for the course with her. I have several top end daughters in herd, all of which are dark red, deep ribbed, milk well with nice udders, and just overall very complete females. One of 9B’s daughters is the dam of Lot 22, who is also featured on the front cover of this catalogue. Another one of 9B’s daughters produced a Crimson Tide heifer that I sold to Colton Metske of Crooked Creek Farms in Ontario. Colton has shown that female successfully at some local fairs and at the Toronto Royal this past fall, but more importantly, he loves how that cow is performing early in production for him. 9B’s Tycoon bred was one of Taylor Richard’s picks in my bred heifer pasture this summer. When a breeder studies their own herd and identifies the cows that are worthy of being replicated in a flush program, a cow like 9B is an obvious candidate. I have full intentions to flush her either in 2023 or 2024 because I can’t get enough of what she has to offer. 17K was special from day one with his extra depth of rib, width of top and presence. I like the maternal qualities that are stacked in this bull by crossing Lieutenant on 9B. 17K is a power bull but I think his daughters will still be his most valuable asset. Gestation 292 days.

20K is a very complete bull that has been on the short list of everyone touring the pen this year. He definitely carries the stamp of his $52,500 sire. Really deep, thick and square through his hip, very moderate in frame, and very soft made which should make him the easy keeping kind. Dark red with no white on his feet, and an attractive head with that highly sought after blaze that he inherited from Stratton. 20K comes to you from one of our top milking, darkest red and best cow families. Five generations of cows on the bottom side of his pedigree have all been top producers over the years. 20K’s granddam, 14B, produced our high selling red open heifer in our Online Production Sale this fall, selling to Robb Farms, SK. His great granddam is the dam of Lot 23 and his maternal sister is the dam of Lot 27. This is a bull that will serve to moderate birth weights and frame size, and add sogginess to his calves. Short gestation 281 days.

52K is the biggest framed Stratton son on offer thanks to the extra frame size that his dam always puts into her progeny. In terms of frame size, he is par with most of the other bulls in the pen. His good old momma is a special cow that I regard highly. She is still in production at 13 years of age and although she’s been awfully stingy with heifers over her lifetime, she finally (after 8 years) gave me a beautiful full sister to 52K in January. This cross with Stratton and 9X works really well and the bonus blaze face is a nice extra feature. The maternal granddam of this bull was also a dark red, blaze face cow so hopefully he will breed blaze faces into his offspring. 9X has been a strong producer over the years putting many top bulls through our sales, and despite how well she milks, her teats have never blown out even at her old age. 52K is sound, very docile, deep ribbed, long and strong over his top, with good thickness. On the inner half of one hind foot, he does have a very thin white line (maybe 1” thick) directly above his hoof. It is not a sock by any means, but there is a little bit of white hair there. Gestation 297 days.

This sound structured, very moderate framed, soggy meat machine is the natural calf of our Reeba donor and a full sib in blood to the $20,000 LRX Sterling 46J who sold to Rancier Farms and Canadian Sires last year. He is one of the youngest in the pen, but is very complete. Reeba’s first son was a $16,250 high seller to Pheasantdale Cattle Co. in 2018, and several other feature sons have sold to reputable commercial programs over the years. She has placed multiple daughters into breeder programs as well, including Robb Farms, Robb Land and Cattle Co., and Willerton Simmentals. Ask Trevor Willerton what he thinks about his Reeba daughter that he purchased as our high selling female in 2021. Honestly, Reeba doesn’t get enough credit for how well she produces. She consistently puts a big hip and a lot of natural muscle into her progeny, no matter the gender and no matter the sire. 72K has been a stand out all year long and is one of my favourite Reeba sons to date. Use him to moderate frame size and add thickness, muscle and easy doing ability to your calves. Gestation 291 days.

This feature bull offers a fresh twist to pedigree, different than most mainstream bloodlines. He also offers some extra age being a December born. He’s an interesting bull with a very small birth weight and super short gestation, yet carries himself with a lot of presence, power and natural muscle and mass. His dam was a first calf heifer that is an ET daughter of our Linette 823U donor, meaning this bull is from the same cow family as Lots 10 and 11. Furthermore, four very productive and beautiful cows grace the first few generations in 98J’s lineage, including Linette 823U, Certainly Flirtin 543C and 202Z, and the world renowned 8543U donor from the US. His quality is no accident with a pedigree stacked that deep. Short gestation 276 days.

Calving Ease. I purchased the dam of this bull as an open heifer from the High Bluff Stock Farms bull sale a couple springs ago. She is a very quiet and friendly cow that offers some extra length and frame. 1K is her first effort and he should work in a heifer pen. These MRL 67X sons are very high satisfaction calving ease bulls. I have sold several 67X sons to commercial cattlemen over the years with rave reviews on how easily they calve. Calving Ease. A nice heifer bull option that comes from a very fertile, good milking cow family. His dam has an ideal udder and worked her butt off raising this bull in her first year in production. She calved in midJanuary giving me a nice little Walk The Line heifer that I look forward to growing the cow family with. 99J’s granddam is still in production at 15 years of age and a maternal sister to 99J’s dam is also a very good young cow in our herd. He is our only Can-Am son on offer this year but we also have an outstanding Can-Am heifer in our keeper pen. I think a lot of 99J’s sire, as we were actually runner up bidders on him the day he sold. 99J is very free and effortless on the move. I loved watching him glide smoothly around the picture pen. Extra-Age. This bull has been a pen favourite by visitors all winter with his extra muscle expression and dimension. He is stout and impressive from all angles, with a nice head to boot. We decided to experiment with a small fall calving program two years ago and he is the first bull I have to offer from that program, with a few more extra age options coming up for our 2024 sale. This bull saw no special treatment for the first year of his life. He was solely raised on forages until pasture turn out last spring and didn’t see any creep until August. 42F is a dark red, good milking female that I purchased from Lewis Farms as a frozen embryo. Her dam is an esteemed foundation donor at LFE and one I wanted to build a cow family around. A maternal brother to this bull was a feature and high seller in our bull sale a couple years ago, and 42F has a very cool Mandate heifer at side right now. This bull can be appreciated for his nice natured disposition making him very easy to handle. He will be able to cover some extra cows this year. Gestation 293 days.
