아트필 공동작업

Artphil에서는 매년 가을에 반 구성원들과 함께 공동작업을 해 볼 수 있는 기회를 마련합니다. 공동작품 은 학생들에게 대형 팀 작업의 스케일을 경험하게 할 뿐만 아니라, 포트폴리오 작품으로 사용할 수 있는 중요한 자료입니다. 학생들은 반별로 함께 작업을 구상하고 의견을 모아 작품을 제작하고 설치하게 됩니 다. 이 과정을 통해서 예술창작에 대한 밀도 높고 성숙한 경험들을 나누고 배우게 될 것입니다. 작품들이 현장에 설치되고 나면 이어서 관객들에게 프레젠테이션하는 시간이 있을 것입니다. 그리고 심사를 거쳐 선정된 우수 작품들에 대한 시상이 있을 것입니다. 자세한 내용은 다음과 같습니다.

나는 존재한다. 고로 ‘트윗’한다.

보이지않는 연결, 집단행동 INVISIBLE NETWORKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION

Collective behavior prior to the technological revolution can be defined as an aggregate behavior of a society toward attaining clear communal objectives. The definition of collective behavior of today, however, is much more obscure as it continues to evolve. Seemingly individual activities--promoting oneself, voyeuring into others’ lives or recording the events of the day--connect to one another through the invisible network of SNS and form an immense collective behavior. While the collective behavior of the past took place within the geographical limits and produced tangible and visible affects, today’s collective behavior manifests itself in organic and amorphous manners via SNS.

나를 자랑하기 남의 삶을 엿보기 내 일과를 기록하기 집단행동과는 거리가 멀어보이는 이러한 개인의 움직 임이 보이지 않는 연결로 이어져 SNS라는 거대한 집단 행동이 된다. 우리는 물리적인 집단의 존재, 결과로서 보여지는 가시적 변화 라는 기존 집단행동의 틀에서 벗 어나 유기적이며 형태가 없는 현 사회의 이면을 SNS라 는 집단행동으로 보여주고자 한다. UV REACTION ; 빈공간을 가시화하고 그리드를 나누어 질량을 부여함 으로써 보이지 않는 네트워크속 연결의 존재를 구현하 였다. 블랙라이트는 어두운 방안에서 밝게 빛나는 스마 트폰의 불빛과같이 어둠속 보이지않는 연결의 존재를 밝혀주는 도구로써 사용되었다

UV REACTION; By visualizing the empty space and imbuing it with mass through grids, MOIRE gives physical presence to the otherwise invisible network. Blacklights, along with the brightly-lit phone screens, serve as tools to revealing the invisible structure in the darkness.

REFLECTION & SCATTERED ; 우리의 순간을 반영한 SNS속 이미지들은 현실인 동시 에 지극히 현실과 거리가 멀기도 하다. 그리드 속 거 울이 깨지는 순간을 포착하여 우리가 현실이라고 믿는 SNS세계의 불완전성을 표현하였다.

테크놀로지 혁명 이전의 집단행동이 공동이 가진 명확 한 목적을 달성하기 위한 다수의 모임으로 정의되는 반 면, 근래의 집단행동은 무형의 성격을 띄며 그 영역을 확장해가고 있다.

REFLECTION & SCATTERED; The images we share on SNS capture moments of our daily lives. Although they reflect our reality, they are sometimes far from it. The mirror in the grid shatters to disclose the fundamentally partial nature of the “real” world we see on SNS.

UNREACHABLE ; 작품의 외벽은 제한된 크기의 창을 통해서만 바라볼수 있고 실제하지만 만질수없는 거리를 만들어주는 도구 이다.

UNREACHABLE; The outer walls of the piece can be seen only in parts through the window. This creates an intangible but real distance between the viewer and the work.

어두운 방 안에 본래 오브제의 그림자를 보여주고, 오 브제의 뒤편에 팀원들이 오브제의 형상을 재해석하면 서 제작한 영상을 상영하였다. 영상 마다 각기 다른 오 브제와 다양한 기법을 사용하여 제작되었다. 하나의 실 체 속에서 뽑아낸 조각이 우리의 머리 속에서 수많은 방 향으로 뻗어 나갈 수 있음을 관객에게 전달한다.

While showing the shadows of the original objects on the back wall, we played video clips reminiscing shapes of the objects. The video clips were made with each different objects and various technique with our intention to deliver the audience the fact that a particle extracted from a substance can spread out many different directions in our head.

환상은 현실의 단편을 바탕으로 재구축된 새로운 이미 지이며, 이는 우리의 삶에 새로운 면을 발견하게 하기 도 하지만 우리의 눈과 귀를 가리기도 한다. 끊임없이 겪으며 살아가는 일상 속에서도 정보가 제한되었을 때 얼마나 그 실체에서 멀어져 수많은 이미지를 확장 시 키는지 보이기 위하여 일상적 사물을 소재로 선정하였 다. 작품에서 각 오브제의 본래의 모습에서 가져온 단 편적인 이미지를 관객들에게 제시한 후 본연의 단편으 로부터 어떠한 이미지가 확장되어 가는지를 보여준다.

What so we call ‘Illusion’ is a recreated image based on our reality, these reality leads us into a new light but at the same time, clouds our eye and ears as well, due to their familiarity.

비단 환상이란 특수한 환경에서 제한된 사람 들만이 볼 수 있는 특별한 것이 아닌, 누구나 겪을 수 있는 흔한 경 험임을 알리고 싶어 우리는 일상 속의 익숙한 물건들에 서 발견할 수 있는 환상을 찾아 그것을 시각화하기로 하 였다. 개개인이 상상해낼 수 있는 환상의 범위는 끝도 없지만, 이전에는 보지 못한 모습을 보여줌과 동시에, 실체를 가려 감각을 멀게 하는 환상의 이중적인 면을 부각시켰다. 영제목 None-binary는 무제(no title) 와 제한(limit)의 말장난이자 퓨전인 제목: 무제[한] 의 의미를 영어로 가장 잘 표현했다고 생각하여 선정 된 제목이다.

We wanted to introduce our audience that illusion isn’t something that is presented only for those who live in special environment; but something that could be found in our ordinary daily lives. Therefore, we’ve selected some objects (that could be found in our ordinary daily lives) to show how they get farther away from the substance and expand numerous images when information is limited. Our English title ‘None-binary’ was born after our Korean title ‘무제[한]’, which is a fusion of ‘No title’ and ‘limits’.

인간을 포함한 모든 생명들은 ‘멸’하는 것에 대한 의식 적 혹은 무의식적인 두려움을 지니고 살아간다. 이러한 생명의 ‘멸’에 대한 두려움은 태초부터 생명 연장의 욕 구로 이어져왔다.

불멸 IMMORTALITY

All living beings instinctively carry a fear of death. Bred from our greed to forever live our lives, this fear symbolizes our mortality and emphasizes the impossibility of humans as immortals.

그러나 우리는, ‘어떠한 생명이 자신의 일부분을 세상 에 지속적으로 남겨간다는 점’에 착안하여 생명이 온전 히 ‘멸’하지 않을 수도 있다고 생각했다.수명이 다한 생 명의 일부분, 또한 아주 작은 부분일지라도 생명의 순 환을 통해 아직 세상에 존재하고있고 앞으로도 남아 있 을 것이라고 본다면 결국 모든 생명은 ‘불멸’한다 할 수 있을 것이다.

Yet we believe that if “a part of any living being is able to continually remain in the world”, then that living being may not, in fact, be entirely mortal. All living things, including humans, animals and even plants propel the cycle of life, giving birth to a new life and those to another new and thus enabling the living thing to retain a part of itself immortally. Therefore, the idea that the life cycle enables any life form to perpetually remain in the world supports our belief that all living beings may not entirely cease to exist.

우리는 팩 하나를 인간을 비롯한 생명에 비유하였으며 그것들의 연결을 통해 전체적인 생명의 순환을 보여주 고자 하였다. 연결된 팩들은 형태의 특성상 용기 안의 액체가 계속해서 아래로 흘러간다. 때문에 한 팩의 액 체가 모두 흘러내려갔다 하더라도 그 일부분은 아래에 위치한 팩으로 내려가게 된다. 이를 통해 하나의 생명 이 다할지라도 일부는 끊임없이 아래로 전해져 결과적 으로 우리는 ‘불멸’라는 존재라는 것을 표현하였다.

We used IV drips to represent each and every living as individuals with their own unique characteristics while the connected tubes illustrate their cycle of life. The linked arrangement of the IV drips is systemized so that substances inside the drips continually trickle down to the drips below. Thus, even if the all the substances in one drip trickle down, parts of the substance is preserved in the drips below. Similarly, because a part of a mortal being is retained as it trickles down the life cycle even after its death, we were able to discover an immortal being and hence, redefine immortality.

또한, 빛이 있는 공간에서는 각각의 생명들이 다른 색 을 띄며 서로 다른 특성을 보여주지만, 빛이 사라진 어 둠 속에서는 같은 빛을 띄는 현상을 보여줌으로써 모든 생명이 본질적으로 하나라는 것을 나타냈다.

Moreover, while each and every living being radiantly reflects distinct colors under a bright light, they glow in the same fluorescent hue in the darkness, thus communicating the idea that everyone is inherently bred from the same source despite their individuality.

이질적인 것들이 공존할 때, 사람들은 경계를 인식한 다. 이 공간에도 이질성이 복합적으로 존재한다. 사람 마다 경계를 느끼는 방식은 다르다. 어떤 이들은 이 상 황을 회피하려 하기도 하고, 어떤 이들은 호기심을 가 지기도 한다. 우리는 이곳에서 사람들이 경계를 인식하 고 이에 대해 스스로 대응하는 과정을 경험하게 하여, 경계의 의미에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있게 하였다.

Typically, when people sense unfamiliar feelings or matters they sense a boundary. This creative space shows complexity of boundaries. People experience boundaries in different ways. Some try to avoid while others are curious about these boundaries. We hope to let the viewers recognize, regulate, and to reevaluate the definition of boundaries through experiencing our interactive exhibition.

우리는 언어의 차이에서 생기는 감정과 생각에 주목했 다. 바벨탑의 붕괴와 함께 언어가 분화되었듯이 이 공 간에서도 다양한 특성을 가진 레이어들이 발산되고 있 다. 전혀 다른 재료와 형태의 레이어들은 불협화음을 만들어 내기도 하고, 서로 어우러져 조화를 이루기도 한다. 또한 사방에서 들려오는 이해할 수 없는 언어들 은 서로 뒤엉키면서 이 분위기를 극대화 시키고 있다. 공간을 가득 채우고 있는 그림자들은 이해할 수 없는 것을 마주했을 때 느끼는 감정을 시각적으로 표현한 것 이다. 나와 같은 모습의 사람이 내가 알아들을 수 없 는 언어를 사용한다는 것을 알게 되면 예상하지 못했 던 감정을 느끼게 될 것이다. 이는 호기심, 놀라움, 낯 섦, 두려움 등 사람마다 다르게 나타난다. 액자는 경계 의 핵심, 절정, 정점이다. 이 공간의 수 많은 무형의 경 계가 물리적으로 표현되는 지점 이다. 이 지점에서 사 람들은 불안감, 안정감, 소외감 등 여러 가지 감정을 경 험할 것이다.

This exhibition concentrates on the emotions that derive from the difference in languages. Similar to the fall of the Tower of Babel, diverse characteristics are scattered in this space. Layers of diverse materials and shapes create discordance, but also harmony. This atmosphere is emphasized by a mixture of undistinguishable languages streaming different layers in the room. The shadows covering the walls visualize the emotions that arise when one encounters something that is uncomprehensive to oneself. When one hears an unrecognizable language, the person may experience unexpected feelings. These feelings come in different forms, such as curiosity, fear, and astonishment. The frame is the main focus of this exhibition. It is a physical representation of an intangible boundary. The viewer can sense various emotions such as anxiety, emotional stability and isolation.

이 공간의 장면은 시시각각으로 변화한다. 사람들은 레 이어 들의 위치를 이동시킬 수 있다. 개인이 레이어의 위치를 바꾸는 것은, 경계를 마주했을 때 각자가 주관 적으로 해석하는 과정이라 할 수 있다. 여러 사람들의 경계에 대한 반응의 흔적은 다른 사람들의 감상이나 행 태에 영향을 미친다.

The scene in this area constantly changes. The layers can easily be reallocated by the viewers. The action of rearranging these layers represents their interpretation of the intangible boundaries. Through the relocation of the layers, viewers are able to create new impact for others.

하나 혹은 소수의 집단으로부터 시작된 맞물려진 힘은 점차 그 세기가 더해져 결국 하나의 집단을 이룬다. 구 성원들은 집단 안에서 비슷한 생각을 공유하고 그로인 해 집단의 힘은 점차 더해진다. 그러한 군집의 힘은 직 선적으로 나타나고 뻗어나가 결국 누군가의 가치관에 도달하게 된다. 개인의 가치관을 이루는 생각의 줄기는 정체되어 있지않고 가변적이며 능동적으로 변화한다. 불특정한 개인의 가치관은 다수에게서 뻗어나온 힘에 의해 영향을 받아 그와같이 물들거나, 혹은 힘을 마주 하기 이전의 상태 그대로 존재한다. 투명하고 경계지어 지지 않아 무엇이든 반영될 수 있는 개인의 가치관에 집 단행동의 힘이 가해질 때, 가치관은 그 힘을 받아들일 지 아니면 저항하여 힘을 굴절시킬지 선택한다.

집단행동 COLLECTIVE ACTION

E17팀은 집단행동의 부정적 혹은 긍정적이라는 하나 의 측면에 집중하지 않고, “개인의 가치관에 미치는 집 단 행동의 영향력”에 중점을 맞춘다. 즉, E17팀은 개 인이 집단에 노출되어있을 때, 그로 인해 받는 영향력 과 그에 따른 선택권에 주목하고자 한다.

As individuals who share common ideas or purpose gather up to form a group, the interlocking force is created and gradually invigorates its power. The power of such groups increases and stretches, eventually to the point where it can influence someone’s personal value. The stem of the idea that forms the value of an individual is not stagnant, but it changes actively and variably. The individual makes decisions whether to embrace or retract the force. Thus, the individual’s value, either remains as it was before, or assimilate to the group.

Our team focused on “the influence of collective action on individual values” rather than focusing on negative or positive aspect of collective. In other words, We sought to illustrate the influence and consequence individuals face when they’re exposed to collective action.

작품의 가장자리에 설치된 톱니에 움직임을 주면 연결 되어 있는 톱니바퀴들이 움직이게되는데, 하나의 톱니 바퀴의 움직임으로 인해 움직이는 큰 틀안의 톱니바퀴 들이 집단행동을 나타낸다. 각각의 톱니바퀴에 설치된 레이저들은 집단행동으로 나타난 힘을 표현하는데, 이 힘은 직선적으로 망설임 없이 개인의 가치관으로 나타 나는 유리 조형으로 향한다. 또한, 빛의 동선을 보여주 는 레이저를 사용함으로써 집단행동의 힘이 개인의 가 치관에게 끼치는 영향력을 시각화 하고자 하였다. 이렇 게 레이저를 사용해 시각화된 집단 행동의 힘은 유리오 브제로 향하는데, 계속해서 움직이며 뻗어나온 집단 행 동의 힘은 개인의 가치관으로 나타난 유리조형에 집중 되기도 하고 오브제까지 도달하지 못하기도한다. 이런 일련의 퍼포먼스로 E17팀은 집단 행동의 힘이 개인의 가치관에 영향력을 미쳤을때와 영향을 주지 못했을때 를 표현하고자하였다.

When a single gear wheel, placed in both left and right walls, is moved, the rest of the gear wheels those are interlocked move as well. Such movement represents the force of the groups that share common ideas. The lasers attached on each gear wheels signify the force of a group. The lasers point straight to the glass sculpture in the center, which symbolize an individual’s value. Some laser points end in the the glass sculptures glowing up the glass pieces, while some don’t. With this set of performances, our team sought to visualize the group behavior which sometimes have an impact on individual values and sometimes do not.

Concept: Cube 다양한 개성과 다른 특성을 가진 개인을 각 큐브로 표현하였고, 각각의 개인들이 모여 하나의 또 다른 공간을 만 들어냈다. 그 공간들이 모여 깊이있고 재미있는 긍정적 에너지의 새로운 공간을 만들어냈다. 또한, 앞으로도 계 속해서 창조해나갈 공간들은 선으로 표현하였다.
