Design Concept

기억은 사람의 뇌리에서 실재를 지배한다. 사람 은 스스로 절대 현실을 있는 그대로 저장할 수 없다. 이 기 억이라는 이미지는 현실의 복제품이지만 현실과는 엄연히 다르다.

과거의 기억 속에 머무는 것은 안전하다. 동시에 자신의 방식대로 왜곡하며 완벽한 통제가 가능하다. 반면 현실은 위험하고, 동적이다. 개인이 통제할 수 없고, 휩쓸려 서 자아를 잃을 수도 있다. 과거의 기억속에서는 침잠하여 자기 자신을 되돌아볼 수 있다. 한편 현실에서는 새로운 경 험과 기억들을 얻고 자신을 확장할 수 있다.

우리는 <기억의 방> 을 통해 관객들이 이미지화 되고 개인화된 자신의 기억을 대면할 수 있기를 바란다. 과 거의 기억을 끊임없이 되새김질하는 기억에 방에 남을 것인 가? 아니면 새로운 기억을 얻기 위해 위험한 현실로 발을 디 딜 것인가? 어디에서 얼마나 오래 남을 것인가?

Memory predominates reality; we can keep nothing but memories stored as images— which is a “copy” of the reality, but not entirely the same. Residing in the memories of the past may feel safe and comfortable, because you can contort and have control of them.

On the other hand, reality is dynamic, dangerous, and uncontrollable. People can be easily carried away by the currents of harsh reality and lose their ego. From memories of the past, people can look back at themselves.

In reality, people can earn new experiences and thus expand their potential.

Through “The Room of Memory”, we hope for the viewers to confront their own memories. Would you stay in the room of memory, where you ruminate your past memories? Or rather, would you step into harsh reality to get new ones? How long at which?

However, there isn’t the right answer. reality?

How does the reality which is in the mirror of the virtual perception permeate back to our real life?

Design Concept

샤를마뉴 대제는 "외국어를 배운다는 것은 두 번째 영혼을 소유하는 것과 같다"라고 말했다. 우리는 다 양한 언어를 사용하면서 태도나 성격이 변화되는 것을 느 끼곤 한다. 특정 언어를 사용할 때 우리는 각 언어 문화권 이 갖고 있는 특정한 인식을 자신의 정체성에 투영한다. 우리는 분명 하나의 자아로 실재하지만 언어라는 틀에 의 해서 새로운 관점과 행동이 탄생되며 다양한 페르소나를 형성하게 되는 것이다.

우리는 과연 무엇을 말하고 싶은가. 어떻게 말하는 것이 정확한 나의 의사 표현이 될 수 있는가. 무엇 을 무엇으로 말할 때 과연 나라는 사람을 말할 수 있는가. 우리는 언어라는 틀을 기반으로 다중 언어 구사자들이 겪 는 정체성의 혼란에 대해서 느껴볼 수 있는 기회를 제공 해보고자 한다.

To speak another language is to have another soul” (Charlemagne). Bilingual people often feel that their attitudes and personalities change when they are using different languages.

W h e n a b i l i n g u a l p e r s o n u s e s a ce r t a i n language, the person naturally projects a specific characteristic of the languages he/she uses.

This person exists as one ego, however, through various languages, new viewpoints and behaviors establish and form various persona. What do I want to say? How can I explain this clearly? And through what way, how can I show myself to others? In this artwork, we wanted to give people an opportunity to experience the sufferings that bilingual people have undergone.

Design Concept

현대인들은 현상을 있는 그대로 감상하지 못 하고 그것의 복제된 이미지를 소비한다. 우리는 이를 극 대화 하고 재해석해 작품으로 풀어내고자 했다. 사람들이 일상적으로 사용하는 옥상 공간에 익숙한 사물 들을 배치하고 이를 판타스마타로 재해석했다. 건물의 외 부로부터 내부로 침범하는 판타스마타의 에너지를 우리 의 일상 속으로 끌어들였다.

In contemporary world, people consume copied images of phenomena rather than appreciate the way they are. We tried to maximize and re-interpreted this into an artwork.

We translated an ordinary space with familiar objects into a PHANTASMATA and brought the energy of phantasmata into our daily routine.

Design Concept

WHO IS IN CHARGE

시스템은 산업시대에는 인간을 하나의 기계 부품처럼 사용했으며, 정보화 시대에서는 알고리즘을 통 해 인간을 착취하고 있다. 특히 정보와 미디어의 발달은 더욱 교묘하고 은밀하게 우리 삶 깊숙이 영향을 미치고 있다.

우리는 빅데이터와 알고리즘이 우리의 취향 을 파악해서 맞춤 서비스를 제공하고 있다는 것을 알고 있고, 이 정보를 컨트롤할 수 있다고 믿는다. 그러나, 정 보에 대한 우리의 주체적인 행위들은 사실 어떤 거대한 무형의 존재에 의해 재단되고 길들여진 것일지도 모른다.

맷돌은 기존의 형태를 사용 가능한 형태로 정 제하는 도구이다. 우리는 현시대 사람들이 정보의 진위성 을 판단하고 정제하려는 행위가 가축화된 소나 말처럼 소 모되는 모습과 같아 보였고, 이러한 모습을 가축이 돌리 는 맷돌인 연자방아에 투영하고자 했다.

We were curious if we were being tamed by a formless being during the flow of the information age.

We used hidden video frames and a stone mill that filters materials to portray our consciousness of the domestication of human beings and the importance of our awareness of that.

Design Concept

병아리가 세상에 나오기 위해서는 껍질을 깨 는 과정이 필요하듯, 우리에게도 이러한 변화가 찾아오는 시기가 오는데, 변화에 대한 막연한 두려움과 실패할 것 이라는 생각이 우리의 발목을 잡는다. 그러나 성장을 위 해서는 보이지 않는 두려움들을 극복해야 한다. 사람들은 변화하기 전의 일상이 안전하다고 여겨 그에 안주하려 하 지만, 두려움을 깨고 나와야 진정한 성장이 이루어진다.

아슬아슬한 실에 걸려있는 달걀은 도전을 마 주한 개개인을 의미하는데 각각의 계란에는 개인이 도전 할 때 마음 깊은 곳에서 그를 두렵게 하는 단어들이 적혀 있다. 이 달걀은 바람으로 인해 끊임없이 움직이는데, 계 란이 더 버티지 못하고 떨어지는 순간을 우리가 마침내 위험을 감수하고 도전을 위해 발을 내딛는 모습이라 할 수 있다.

변화를 일으키는 자극은 모든 사람들에게 각 기 다른 정도로 나타난다. 작은 자극에 변화하는 사람이 있는 반면 두려움을 이겨내지 못하고 그 모습으로 도태되 는 사람이 있다. 그러나 유명한 소설가 C. S. Lewis 가 말했듯이 우리는 계속 평범하고 상하지 않은 계란으로 있 을 수 없다. 부화하거나 상할 수밖에 없는 계란처럼 우리 는 머릿속을 지배하고 있는 두려움을 이기고 도전함으로 써 더 커다란 세계로 나아가야 한다.

As a chick needs to break its shell to come out into the world, we also need to take a risk to grow up. Oftentimes, a sense of fear holds us back. People fear changes; however, real maturation cannot be achieved without conquering our fears.

Eggs hanging on a thread represent an individual facing a challenge. A word that hinders us from moving forward is inscribed on the egg, and the wind continuously stir the eggs. Eggs dropping to the ground illustrates the moment that we finally take risks and step out for a challenge.

As the egg gets dropped on the floor by a different degree of external forces, not everyone changes in a uniform manner. Some people change by a small stimulus, while others fail to overcome their fear of change and stay as they are. But only the eggs that took a risk will experience the new world

Design Concept

마트료시카는 하나의 목각인형 안에 비슷한 모습의 크기가 더 작은 인형들이 반복되어 들어있는 구조 를 가진 러시아 전통 인형이다. 모든 것의 전환이 빠른 현 대사회에서 사람들은 직면하게 되는 상황, 장소, 사람 등 에 따라 가면을 바꿔쓰듯이 멀티 페르소나, 즉 다중자아 를 발현하게 되었다. 회사나 학교에 있을 때, 퇴근하고 집 에 있을 때, 친구들을 만날 때, SNS나 온라인에서 소통 할 때 등 주어진 환경이나 상황에 따라 다양한 정체성을 보여주는 양상인 것이다. 우리는 여러 공간에서 각기 다 른 상황 속 나타나는 여러 가면들과 한 공간 안에서 일어 날 수 있는 또 다른 상황 속에서 보여지는 새로운 가면을 마치 마트료시카 인형처럼 상황 안의 상황 안의 상황으로 표현하고 각각의 상황을 공간으로 연출하고자 하였다.

우리는 언제 처음으로 다른 누군가에게 자신 의 본연의 모습과 전혀 다르거나 혹은 자신을 과대포장하 여 더 좋은 모습을 비추었을까? 어린 아이였을때 작은 실 수를 덮기 위할 때에? 칭찬 받고 싶어 조그마한 선행을 과장할 때에? 마치 우리가 태어나자마자 처음 보게 되는 것이 부모님 얼굴이듯 사람들의 페르소나는 가정에서부 터 시작되지 않았을까? 이번 전시에서는 마트료시카처럼 내 안의 또 다른 내가 SNS 세상 속에서 어떻게 또 달라 질 수 있는지를 보여주고자 한다. 가장 바깥 쪽 인형과 가 장 안쪽 인형 중 어떤 모습이 진짜 원래의 내 모습일까?

Matryoshka is a traditional Russian doll with a structure in which small dolls with similar shapes are repeatedly included in one kokeshi doll. In modern society, where everything changes quickly, people express multi-personas, or multiple ego, to write in different masks depending on the situation, place, person, etc. they are facing. It is a face that shows various identities depending on the given environment and situation, such as when you are at work or school, when you are at work and at home, when you meet friends, when you communicate on SNS or online. We see new masks that appear in different situations in some spaces, in different situations that can occur in some masked spaces, like matryoshka dolls. I tried to express each situation spatially by expressing it in the situation and the situation in the situation.

Did we sometimes first give someone else a completely different look, or overwrap ourselves to illuminate a better look? When you were a kid, when the cost of covering small mistakes was high? When exaggerating a small precedent you want to admire? It's as if the first thing we see right after we're born is that the faces of our parents are so people's personas started at home? In this exhibition, I will try to show you how and how you can be different in another my SNS world like Matryoshka. What kind of figure of the outermost doll and the innermost doll really is the original figure?

Design Concept

이모지는 국가, 문화, 인종과 상관없이 모두 가 동의하는 현대의 언어입니다. 이모지는 현대의 다양 한 요소들의 복제이지만 사용자와 수용자의 주관적 해석 에 따라 하나의 이모지는 유동적인 의미를 가지게됩니다. 저희는 이모지가 단순 복제로서의 의미를 넘어서, 기존의 언어가 가진 한계를 뛰어넘는 이모지만의 독립적인 의미 를 가지게되었다고 보았습니다.

새로운 세상엔 새로운 언어가 필요합니다. 이 모지는 빠르게 변하는 시대에 발맞출 수 있는 높은 적응 력과 수용력을 지닌 이미지들로 구성되어 있습니다. 이런 특성에 저희 G팀의 센스와 지식을 더해 구체적인 시스템 을 구축하여 새로운 언어인 ‘Emojian’을 만들어냈습니 다. 문법과 단어들을 정리했고 성경, 헌법, 소설, 시등 여 러 글들을 번역해보았습니다.

Emoji is a modern language that everyone agrees on, regardless of country, culture, or race. Emoji is a replica of various modern elements, but a single emoji has a fluid meaning according to the subjective interpretation of the user and the audience.

We saw that emojis go beyond the meaning of simple replication and have an independent meaning of emojis that go beyond the limitations of the existing languages.

A new world needs a new language.

Emojis are composed of images with high adaptability and capacity that can keep up with the rapidly changing times. By adding the sense and knowledge of our G team to these characteristics, we built a specific system to create a new language called ‘Emojian’. We organized grammar and words and tried to translate various texts such as the Bible, the Constitution, novels, and poetry.

Artphil Collaborative Project Grand Prize Archive 2003-2019 아트필은 1990년 설립 이후 매년 야외수업을 개최했습니다. 2003년 이후 보다 큰 규모의 공동작업을 실행하였고 매년 대상 작품을 선정했습니다. 2014년 이후 공동작업의 대상지가 갤러리와 옥상 공간으로 변경됐습니다. 2020년에는 COVID-19로 인해 팝업릴레이로 전시회가 진행되어 별도의 시상식은 없었습니다. 2019년도까지 역대 우승팀의 작품을 감상해보세요.

Design Concept: COVID-19 COVID-19로 인해 2020년에는 다같이 함께하던 전시가 아닌 소규모그룹으로 나누어져 팝업릴레이로 개별 전시가 진행되었다.

ARTPHIL 알파벳 하나하나는 이번 전시를 진행한 7팀을 나타낸다. 각 팀의 개성을 다양한 변형과 팀별 작품 아이콘으로 보여주며 코로나로 인해 함께하지 못하고 분리되어있는 모습을 표현하였다.
