Artphil Institute Collaborative Project

은 1990년 국내 최초로 설립된 유학전문 미술학원으로서 전 세계 문화예술계를 주도해 나갈 인재들이 연구하는 창조공간입니다. 아트필 공동작업 Artphil에서는 매년 가을에 반 구성원들과 함께 공동작업을 해 볼 수 있는 기회를 마련합니다. 공동작품은 학생들에게 대형 팀 작업의 스케일을 경험하게 할 뿐만 아니라, 포트폴리오 작품으로 사용할 수 있는 중요한 자료입니다. 학생들은 반별로 함께 작업을 구상하고 의견을 모아 작품을 제작하고 설치하게 됩니다. 이 과정을 통해서 예술창작에 대한 밀도 높고 성숙한 경험들을 나누고 배우게 될 것입니다. 작품들이 현장에 설치되고 나면 이어서 관객들에게 프레젠테이션하는 시간이 있을 것입니다. 그리고 심사를 거쳐 선정된 우수 작품들에 대한 시상이 있을 것입니다. 자세한 내용은 다음과 같습니다.

유목민은 절대적인 거주지가 없이, 떠다니는 삶을 목적 삼아, 서로 다른 종족이 서로 만나고 헤어지고를 반복하며 살아간다. 이러한 노마드의 행태는 개개인의 목적을 가지고 있지만 여기에 모여 일시적으로, 또 우연적으로 공동의 목적을 가지고 공동작업을 하게된 우리의 상황과 비슷하다. 그렇기에 우리는 언제나 분리가능하고 우리의 목적에 따라서 헤어질 것이다. 여기서 우리는 우리의 일시적인 목적을 모두를 아우르는 접점이 있지 않을까? 그리고 그 절대적으로 보이는 접점이 있다면 어떠한 존재일까? 라는 의문이 생겼다. 이 가운데 우리는 각자가 가지는 공통의 특성으로 접점을 찾으려는 실험을 진행했다. 이 갤러리의 구조물들은 우리의 현상을 뒷받침 해줄 임시 거주지이며, 우리의 공동 생활의 연약한 터전이 된다.

이러한 실험을 위해 우리는 재료의 제약 없이 우리는 본인이 가장 잘 사용할 수 있는, 본인의 전공과 그동안의 작업을 통해 친숙한 재료들을 모은 뒤 그들의 형태의 가능성에 대해서 토론하고 형태를 함께 구성하면서 서로 소통하는 시간을 가졌다. 이러한 토론 가운데 우리는 다양한 재료의 활용과 형태의 구성에 대해서 알아볼 수 있는 시간을 가졌다. 이러한 새로운 재료들 은 새로운 기능을 가지고, 임시 거주지의 구성물로의 역할을 시작한다. 이와 동시에 각각의 구성물들은 서로가 연결되며 서로를 간섭한다. 이는 서로의 대한 침투이기도 하고, 서로의 미완된 구성물끼리의 간섭이기도 하다. 연결을 통해서 각각의 구성물은 서로의 형태를 변화시키기도 하고, 서로를 방해하기도 하며, 서로의 미완된 모습을 보완하기도 한다. 이러한 서로에 대한 영향은 상이한 요소들의 여과없이 혼재된 상태이자 발전하는 모습으로 나타난다. 이제 절대적인 접점을 탐구하고자 하는 마음은 분할되어 부분 부분에서 서로 만나고 간섭하는 형태로 변형되고, 적용된다. 여기의 작업물은 우리의 공동 생활의 현상의 배경이 되는 임시 거주지이며, 이 기간이 계속되면 또 변화하고, 변태할 것이다. 하지만 전시가 끝나는 순간 우리는 모두 유목민 처럼 다시 우리의 자리로 돌아갈 것이고, 그에 따라 서 이 구조물도 분해될 것이다.

Nomads live with moving. They usually move relentlessly without absolute residences. In this process, they might meet another nomad people accidently and leave again. They could exchange their knowledge and information. This process is very similar to us in this institution. We just gather in this place for our personal purpose.

Our dreams or purposes are very similar to each other. So we could exchange our experiences in our lives and be friends. But after finishing our jobs we could break up immediately.

This relationship is like a very feasible shelter for supporting our collective work.

First, we decided to live in this gallery for creating this feasible shelter. We spend most of our time each other to build up our shelter. Then we talk about our history about our childhood.

Then we found that we have traumatic experiences to make us hesitate to leave. Then we redesign our traumas by using the materials that are familiar with our majors or personal interests.

Then we could finally make the symbolic monuments of our nomadic life style.

재해에 대한 과잉대응과 재해의 연속성을 표현하였다. 우리 팀은 한 번 재해를 겪게 된 사람이 그 재해가 트라우마로 남게 되어 과잉대응을 한다는 내용으로 바탕으로 작품을 만들었다. 구체적, 표면적으로 옥상이란 야외 장소의 날씨를 이용하여 폭설이라는 재해로 정하게 되었다. 폭설에 대한 대응책인 난로를 병풍의 형태로 쌓아 가운데 스스로를 가둠으로서 사람이 심리적으로 불안해짐을 과잉대응한 모습으로 표현하였다.

난로라는 상징물은 추상적인 표현이 아닌 직설적이게 나타나는 전시물로 사람의 심리를 대변하는 매개체로 사용됐다. 이에 은박 발포지, 전선, 스위치 등을 이용하여 바람이 들어올 작은 틈조차 전부 매꾸었다. 또한 벽돌, 못, 나사, 철골 등의 강건한 재료들을 이용하여 어떠한 바람에도 넘어지지 않는 구조물을 만들었다. 이러한 대응은 화재라는 재해로 이어질 수 있다는 전제 하에 소화기 란해결책이 앞에 보여지고 재해의 연쇄성이 나타남을 표현하였다. 이는 사람의 심리와 상황의 관계성 속에서 화재라는 연쇄성을 포함해 맥락이 연결됨을 결과적으로 표현하고 있다.

This work portrays the mental repercussions one may go through after a traumatic disaster, resulting in an excessively self-defensive behavior. To take advantage of the outdoor environment and cold weather, we specifically chose blizzard as the focus of our project.

The stack of heaters acts as a self defensive mechanism to combat the harshness of blizzards, though in an aggressive manner. Aluminum, pipes, wires, and switches were added to fill up the gaps in-between the heaters to block out even the most smallest hints of disaster. Moreover, stable materials, such as bricks, nails and steel frames were added to prevent the structure from being knocked down by strong winds. The fire extinguisher is present to symbolize a second disaster that could be consequently resulted by this over-preparedness.

편견은 언제 어디에서 누구에게나 존재한다. 공기에 노출되어 자극을 경험하면서부터 근거 없는 편견들은 우리의 무의식에 자연스럽게 스며들고 축적된다. 자라온 환경과 영향을 주고 받는 주변 사람들, 그리고 학습체계 안에서도 편견은 동시 다발적으로 만들어지고 교환된다. 이는 자의로 제어할 수 없는 무형의 강한 작용이다. 따라서 우리 모두는 스스로 만들어 낸 허상의 개념과의 비교로부터 상처를 받기도, 때로는 주기도 한다. 우리는 시간을 태어나기 전으로 돌려서, 이 모든 과정이 일어나기 전의 상태와 그 존재가 출생 후에 맞닥뜨려야 할 위험요소를 시각화한다. “프레쥬디스-리스-니스”는 물과 비닐봉지로 세상과 완벽하게 단절된 태아를 통해 편견이 생기기 전의 상태를 시각화하고자 했다. 전시 공간을 하나의 닫힌 세계라고 가정을 하고, 공중에는 낚싯줄에 매달려 언제라도 떨어질 것 같은 긴장감을 유발하는 태아가 있다. 반면, 바닥에는 편견을 가지게 할 만한 검은 텍스트를 붙이고 그 위에 올려진 날카로운 오브제로 출생 후에 태아가 맞닥뜨릴 편견이 가득한 세계를 묘사한다. 조명에 반사되어 빛나는 투명한 오브제와, 어두운 색깔의 자극적인 바닥의 오브제 사이에서 묘한 긴장감을 전달한다. 더불어 둘러싼 세 개의 벽면에 자연스럽게 흔들리는 그림자들이 태아의 순수함에 서정성을 더하고, 손바닥보다 작은 크기와 부드러운 연질 우레탄으로 제작된 태아 모형은 그들의 연약함을 보여준다.

Prejudice exist everywhere and in everyone; saturated in the air we breathe, groundless prejudice seep into our unconsciousness through experience- our surroundings, close people, and education. Unaware of this, we are both creating and exchanging prejudice simultaneously. However unintentional, it has a powerful intangible effect on our minds. Therefore, we are sometimes damaged by our own prejudice and at the same time, hurting others with our own illusions and misconceptions.

We portray the origin of life when all of these detriments have not yet taken impact on our lives, however inevitably impending.

The water bags and fetus depicts ourselves completely detached from the world along with the influence of prejudice.

Taking the studio space as a separate world, the fragile strings from the ceiling shows the vulnerability of the fetus.

The surrounding three-face walls capture the shadows cast by the swaying fetus, representing the innocence of a baby swaying blithe in space. Furthermore, the fetus itself is made of soft urethane in the size of the palm showing its fragileness.

On the floor, we show prejudice with texts and sharp objects that represents the impending world that the fetus will have to face in time. The combination of light and shining objects together with the dark floor arouse a careful tension.

겨울날 고슴도치들은 얼어 죽지 않기 위해 모여든다. 너무 가까워 지면 서로가 상처를 입고 너무 멀어지면 동사를 하게 된다. 고슴도치들은 서로가 살아남기 위해서는 찔리지도 않고 죽지도 않는 적정한 거리를 찾아야 한다. 우리는 이를 현대사회 사람들의 관계에 연관 지어 그 해결책으로 적절한 거리 찾기를 제시했다. 고슴도치의 가시모양을 형상화 해서 가시길을 설치했으며, 사람들이 찔리거나 멀어지지 않는 거리를 직접 체험 할 수 있게 설치하여 적정한 거리와 균형을 느낄 수 있게 설계했다.

현대의 사람들은 보이지 않는 상처를 받고 고립되어 있다. 이 모습은 마치 추운 겨울날의 고슴도치 같다. 고슴도치들은 얼어 죽지 않기 위해 모이지만 서로의 가시 때문에 찔릴걸 두려워 동사하고 만다. 사람은 사회적 동물로 살아 남기 위해 본능적으로 친밀감을 쌓으려 하지만 현대인들은 상처를 받을 거 라는 두려움 때문에 서로에게 다가가지 못한다. 이런 인간의 관계와 고슴도치이야기의 해결책은 적절한 거리 찾기라고 생각했다. <그러다 알게 되겠지. 어른이 된다는 건 가까워 지든가 멀어지든가 하는 것을 반복해서, 서로 그다지 상처 입지 않고 사는 거리를 찾아낸다는 것을> 이건 어느 유명한 애니메이션에서 나온 명대사인데, 서로가 온기를 나눌 수 있지만 상처를 받지 않는 거리의 균형을 찾아 관계를 형성하고 이어가는 인간사회를 보여준다. 세상에 완벽한 균형이란 존재하지 않는다고 생각한다. 각자가 느끼는 균형은 개인과 상황마다 다르고 그 균형자체도 서로를 맞추어 가려는 노력의 과정이라 생각한다. 이를 보여주기 위해 가시밭을 설치했다. 그 가시와 가시 사이의 거리가 때로는 멀어지기도 가까워 지기도 하면서 서로가 찌르지 않고 찔리지 않 는 거리를 각자가 체험할 수 있게 설계했다. 가시가 무서워서 처음부터 들어올려고 하지 않는 사람도 있을 것이고 가시를 피해할 수 있는 최적의 거리를 찾는 사람도 개인마다의 관계를 형성하는 균형을 체험할 수 있다.

In current society, people are vulnerable and isolated. This image looks like a hedgehog in a cold winter. Hedgehogs gather to avoid being frozen to death, but eventually die because they fear getting hurt by each other’s spines. As a social animal, human tries to create intimacy within relationship, but fears to get close to others because he or she might get hurt due to such relationship. the best way for the hedgehog and human relationship is to find the most appropriate distance. “ Well, he’s just going to have to learn someday.

The part of growing up means finding a way to interact with others while distancing pain. “ This is one of the quotes from a famous animation which represents our society. We tend to find the balance within distance to both share the warmth with others and avoid getting hurt from them.

Our group never believes that the perfect balance exists. Each individual has its own balance which differs due to situation. Also, the balance itself seems to be the hard-working process of people trying to understand others.

Thus, we installed these spines in order to show our definition of balance.

This distance between thses spines sometimes gets closer or further in order to encourage the audience to participate and find a way to avoid getting pricked. Obviously, there would be people who would hesitate to start, but some people would find the most appropriate distance where they can avoid. Please feel free to join in finding the balance of human relationship.

현대인들은 의식적, 무의식적, 혹은 무의식적으로 타인과 맞물려가며 살아간다. 쳇바퀴가 굴러가듯 반복적이며 획일화 된 삶 속에서, 우리가 인지하지 못한 채 흘려버린 것들에 대해 재해석하고자 한다. 사람들은 짜여진 틀 속에서, 또한 흔적의 주체로서 끝없이 <나>라는 흔적을 타인에게 남기며 살아간다. 뚜렷한 기억은 아닐지라도, 서로를 마주하는 우리의 기억 속에는 흐릿한 잔상 혹은 작은 조각들이 남는다. 이는 서로의 머릿 속에 남겨진 각자의 존재일지도 모른다. 인지되지 못하고 소멸되는 기억은 카메라에 비추어져 마치 타인의 시선과 같이 표현된다. 영상을 통해 흘려보냈던 나의 기억들을 재생하고, 서로에게 남김 흔적을 수집함으로써 관람자가 나와 타인의 관계에 대하여 재고해 볼 수 있는 계기를 제공한다. 끊임없이 굴러가는 바퀴는 사람들을 움직일 수 있게 하는 이동의 수단이며, 이는 쉼 없이 이동하는 현대인들의 일상과 유사하다. 그 중 서로가 맞물리며 제 역할을 수행하는 톱니바퀴는 주변과 소통하며 살아가는 우리의 인생사와 비슷한 형상을 보인다. 더불어, 대다수의 흘러가고 쉽게 잊혀지는 것 사이에서 개인의 사고방식이나 습관들은 쉽게 변형되지 않는데, 이는 바퀴를 지탱하는 축으로 형상화 하였다.

Through everyday interactions, people are always both intentionally and unintentionally influencing each other. Due to the mundane and repetitive nature of contemporary society, we often dismiss and fail to notice what is going on around us. This installation reinterprets and sheds a light on these missing fragments of our lives.

In society, people endlessly shape those around them, leaving traces of themselves behind in others. Although we might not have vivid recollections of every social interaction, we continue to hold hazy slivers of memories of each other in our minds. In this way, we continue to hold place within others, leaving remnants of ourselves in each others‘ memories. The cameras in our installation endlessly capture each other, acting like the gazes of society and creating blurry memories of each other in the form of videos. Through turning a moment into a recorded, permanent form, we have created a way to seize and replay that moment and the memories of each other that have been formed within it.

The endlessly turning wheels are like the wheels of society and the everyday lives of the people that interact with each other within it. Although society continues to influence each other, people are not prone to change and continue to live within certain parameters, just as the axes stabilize the wheels and hold them in place.

현대인들은 의식적, 혹은 무의식적으로 타인과 맞물려가며 살아간다. 쳇바퀴 굴러가듯 반복적이며 획일화 된 삶 속에서, 우리가 인지하지 못한 채 흘려버린 것들에 대해 재해석하고자 한다. 사람들은 짜여진 틀 속에서, 또한 흔적의 주체로서 끝없이 ‘나’라는 흔적을 타인에게 남기며 살아간다. 뚜렷한 기억은 아닐지라도, 서로를 마주하는 우리의 기억 속에는 흐릿한 잔상 혹은 작은 조각들이 남는다. 이는 서로의 머릿 속에 남겨진 각자의 존재일지도 모른다. 인지되지 못하고 소멸되는 기억은 카메라에 비추어져 마치 타인의 시선과 같이 표현된다. 영상을 통해 흘려보냈던 나의 기억들을 재생하고, 서로에게 남긴 흔적을 수집함으로써 관람자가 나와 타인의 관계에 대하여 재고해 볼 수 있는 계기를 제공한다. 끊임없이 굴러가는 바퀴는 사람들을 움직일 수 있게 하는 이동의 수단이며, 이는 쉼 없이 이동하는 현대인들의 일상과 유사하다. 그 중 서로가 맞물리며 제 역할을 수행하는 톱니바퀴는, 주변과 소통하며 평생을 살아가는 우리의 인생사와 비슷한 형상을 보인다. 더불어, 대다수의 흘러가고 쉽게 잊혀지는 것 사이에서 개인의 사고방식이나 습관들은 쉽게 변형되지 않는데, 이는 바퀴를 지탱하는 축으로 형상화하였다.

Music 서울실용음악고등학교와 콜라보레이션을 통하여 각자의 일상에서 남긴 소리들을 담아 음악적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 사람들이 무의식 속에 흘려버렸던 타인의 소리, 불쾌한 소음으로만 여겨졌던 자동차 소리, 그리고 귀 기울이지 않았던 사랑하는 사람들의 소리 등을 겹겹이 더했다. 이러한

Excess; Trauma from disaster 이 작품은 재해에 대한 과잉대응과 재해의 연소성을 표현하였다. 우리팀은 한 번 재해를 겪게 된 사람이 그 재해가 트라우마로 남게 되어 과잉대응을 한다는 내용으로 바탕으로 작품을 만들었다. 구체적, 표면적으로 옥상이란 야외 장소의 날씨를 이용하여 폭설이라는 재해로 정하게 되었다. 폭설에 대한 대응책인 난로를 병풍의 형태로 쌓아 가운데 스스로를 가둠으로서 사람이 심리적으로 불안해짐을 과잉대응한 모습으로 표현하였다.그래서 난로라는 상징물은 추상적인 표현이 아닌 직설적이게 나타나는 전시물로 사람의 심리를 대변하는 매개체로 사용됐다. 이에 은박 발포지, 전선, 스위치 등을 이용하여 바람이 들어올 작은 틈조차 전부 매꾸었다. 또한 벽돌, 못, 나사, 철골 등의 강건한 재료들을 이용하여 어떠한 바람에도 넘어지지 않는 구조물을 만들었다. 이러한 대응은 화재라는 재해로 이어질 수 있다는 전제 하에 소화기라는 해결책이 앞에 보여지고 재해의 연쇄성이 나타남을 표현하였다. 이는 사람의 심리와 상황의 관계성 속에서 화재라연쇄성을 포함해 맥락이 연결됨을 결과적으로 표현하고 있다.

This work portrays the mental repercussions one may go through after a traumatic disaster, resulting in an excessively self-defensive behavior. To take advantage of the outdoor environment and cold weather, we specifically chose blizzard as the focus of our project.

The stack of heaters acts as a self defensive mechanism to combat the harshness of blizzards, though in an aggressive manner. Aluminum, pipes, wires, and switches were added to fill up the gaps in-between the heaters to block out even the most smallest hints of disaster. Moreover, stable materials, such as bricks, nails and steel frames were added to prevent the structure from being knocked down by strong winds. The fire extinguisher is present to symbolize a second disaster that could be consequently resulted by this over-preparedness.

: 접점 장애 유목민은 절대적인 거주지가 없이, 떠다니는 삶을 목적 삼아, 서로 다른 종족이 서로 만나고 헤어지고를 반복하며 살아간다. 이러한 노마드의 행태는 개개인의 목적을 가지고 있지만 여기에 모여 일시적으로, 또 우연적으로 공동의 목적을 가지고 공동작업을 하게된 우리의 상황과 비슷하다. 그렇기에 우리는 언제나 분리가능하고 우리의 목적에 따라서 헤어질 것이다. 이 가운데 우리는 각자가 가지는 공통의 특성으로 접점을 찾으려는 실험을 진행했다. 이 갤러리의 구조물들은 우리의 현상을 뒷받침 해줄 임시 거주지이며, 우리의 공동 생활의 연약한 터전이 된다.

이러한 실험을 위해 우리는 재료의 제약 없이 우리는 본인이 가장 잘 사용할 수 있는, 본인의 전공과 그동안의 작업을 통해 친숙한 재료들을 모은 뒤 그들의 형태의 가능성에 대해서 토론하고 형태를 함께 구성하면서 서로 소통하는 시간을 가졌다. 이러한 새로운 재료들은 새로운 기능을 가지고, 임시 거주지의 구성물로의 역할을 시작한다.

이와 동시에 각각의 구성물들은 서로가 연결되며 서로를 간섭한다. 이는 서로의 대한 침투이기도 하고, 서로의 미완된 구성물끼리의 간섭이기도 하다. 연결을 통해서 각각의 구성물은 서로의 형태를 변화시키기도 하고, 서로를 방해하기도 하며, 서로의 미완된 모습을 보완하기도 한다. 이러한 서로에 대한 영향은 상이한 요소들의 여과없이 혼재된 상태이자 발전하는 모습으로 나타난다. 이제 절대적인 접점을 탐구하고자 하는 마음은 분할되어 부분 부분에서 서로 만나고 간섭하는 형태로 변형되고, 적용된다. 이 기간이 계속되면 또 변화하고, 변태할 것이다. 하지만 전시가 끝나는 순간 우리는 모두 유목민 처럼 다시 우리의 자리로 돌아갈 것이고, 그에 따라서 이 구조물도 분해될 것이다. 재료: 목재, 모르타르, 선 LED, EL light, 털실, 알루미늄 판, 전선, 광목 등 작품 사이즈: 2500 x 1500 x 3100

Our theme is balance, especially the balance in human relationship. In current society, people are vulnerable and isolated; just like this shadow piercing my body.

This image looks like a hedgehog in a cold winter.

Hedgehogs gather to avoid being frozen to death, but eventually die because they fear getting hurt by each other's spines. As a social animal, human tries to create intimacy within relationship, but fears to get close to others because he or she might get hurt due to such relationship.

Our group thought the best way for the hedgehog and human relationship is to find the most appropriate distance. "Well, he's just going to have to learn someday. The part of growing up means finding a way to interact with others while distancing pain." This is one of the quotes from a famous animation which represents our society. We tend to find the balance within distance to both share the warmth with others and avoid getting hurt from them. Our group never believes that the perfect balance exists. Each individual has its own balance which differs due to situation.

Also, the balance itself seems to be the hard-working process of people trying to understand others. Thus, our group installed these spines in order to show our definition of balance. The distance between these spines sometimes gets closer or further in order to encourage the audience to participate and find a way to avoid getting pricked. Obviously, there would be people who would hesitate to start, but some people would find the most appropriate distance where they can avoid.
