analysis

General Review 1. Change all the User Experience, including create a new story and continuity in every scene. The object/button is not clear wheter it’s to be clickable or not, and add return or back button for each scene. 2. Review the color, contrast, and shape to be more visible. In this current version, the difference between object and the background is not clear. 3. The message in this current version is not clear, whether to explain a way to prevent Chagas or to understand where to find the cinchoro bug? 4. Change the character and environment. This will relate to the story and message of this media. 5. The current version was created by Flash (It was built by Macromedia and now in Adobe) which is no longer been used for any interactive media. I’d like to propose to use Unity for the re-design version.

“As a user, I should never have to devote a millisecond of thought to whether things are clickable — or not.” — Steve Krug, Dont Make Me Think Revisited, p. 14

SPECIFIC REVIEW 1. Good opening, in interactive media this called watersplash 2. I suggest to make the option with or without sound from the beginning, in this current version we need to turn on or off everytime the scene changes. 3. Anita suggested to change the character without choosing the gender. Probably will change it to a local health officer. 4. The butterfly is fun! but don’t know what the relation with all the stories. 5. Need to connect the relation with the environment 6. There is disconnection between the previous scene, which is outdoor to indoor and the boy character is missing from this scene.

7. Again, there is no connection between the previous scene, and between the background and the clickable object is not proporsional. 8. Same issue with previous scene, and the representation of the hand and gloves is not clear. 9. I don’t think most of the people will understand that this is a glove or people need to wash their hand, before or after they touch the bug. 10. This is actually fun! I think I will keep this as a bonus feature or something. 11. Since this is the last scene/slide, I think we need to highlight what is the message of this media. What is the best way to prevent the bug? 12. I’m thinking in this credits scene, we also need to highlight wether this is a game or just an explainer video. If this is a game, do we pass it? or loose it?

SUMMARY

This project is really fit into my new two media production which are animation and interactive media with an emphasis of media for social change. In this project, I believe that the most important part are the target audience and the key message of the media. As discussed with Anita during our first meeting, the target audience will be children in age range from 6-10 years old. They might have a lack access of what is Chincoro bug and Chagas disease about, so I hope the key message of this media is to give more information about the Chagas issue in an attractive, visually appealing, short and fun! If this proposal will be accepted, I’m going to take all the credits as my experiential course. I believe all those production steps are important, especially during the first development of the story, such as determining the character, environment, and other assets with the hope that I could combine a local knowledge of culture and probably traditional visual references from Equador. For the technical aspect of the production, I will choose to use Unity, a game developer engine that can create an interactive media in a 2D basis, I’m going to develop it during Spring 2020 semester in the MDIA 5100/5401 Game Dev I class. After that, I hope I would be able to deliver and test the media directly to the target audience in Equador in summer next year. Thank you Zul Tinarbuko
