CONTENTS: Introduction Workshop Overview Program Overview Methology Works of Participants

INTRODUCTION The workshop aims to introduce the software Grasshopper (plug-in for the parametric modeling in Rhino), and how to build and develop parametric data structures (from basic simple lists to complex data trees). Participants will also develop a parametric skin by introducing different methods of creating variations within the subdivided surface in response to certain forces, the new parametric skin will become responsive to different levels of interactions. The Participants will be guided through the most important aspects of the program and the main techniques for visual programming in Rhinoceros.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: What’s the Grasshopper? Grasshopper® is a plugin for the Rhinoceros 3D modeling package—is a graphical algorithm editor that takes advantage of Rhino’s existing tools. Grasshopper offers new ways to expand and control the 3D design and modeling processes, including automating repetitive processes; generating geometry through mathematical functions; quickly making changes to complex models; and creating complex forms through repetitions of simple geometry. Grasshopper requires no programming or scripting knowledge, but still allows designers a high degree of flexibility in creating both simple and complex forms. What I will learn from the workshop? • Introduction to Grasshopper and algorithmic geometry • Creating complex geometries through parametric modeling • Interactive skin and adaptive skin with environment aspects. • Understanding of performative design

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: 1st Day: Software interface • Basic Interface - how Grasshopper works together with Rhino • Components Data Structure - List and Tree • Lists & Data Tree: management, manipulation, visualization • Geometry generation from data stream 2D Patterning • Base exercises (Attractor field, Surface subdivision) • Image Sampler • Morphing

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: 2nd Day: Surface Mapping • Advanced exercise: Data-reactive component – data-reactive tessellation on NURBS surface. • Creating and manipulating all the main geometry types - Points, Vectors, Lines, Curves, Surfaces and Meshes. • Mesh sub-division with Weaverbird. • Lunchbox and Penalization

3rd Day:

Parametric Model • Environmental feedback with Geco (Solar – Shadow – Light Analysis). • Folded Panels and Unfolding • Extract data from analysis and how to apply it on the skin
