1.Life
He was born on July 9/10, 1856, in Smiljan, Austrian Empire [now in Croatia]— and died on January 7, 1943, in New York, New York, U.S.) He was a Serbian American inventor and engineer.
Tesla was from a family of Serbian origin. His father was an Orthodox priest; his mother was unschooled but highly intelligent. As he matured, he displayed remarkable imagination and creativity as well as a poetic touch.
He was one of five children, including siblings Dane, Angelina, Milka, and Marica. Nikola’s interest in electrical invention was spurred by his mother, Djuka Mandic, who invented small household appliances in her spare time whilehersonwasgrowingup.
Tesla’s father, Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian orthodox priest and a writer, and he pushed for his son to join the priesthood. But Nikola’s interests lay squarely in the sciences.
He studied at Graz UniversityofTechnology and Charles-Ferdinand University.
Family
2. How did he change the world?
Tesla developed the alternating-current power system that provides electricity for homes and buildings. He also pioneered the field of radio communication and was granted more than 100 U.S. patents.

WHOA!
Tesla's visionary inventions and theoretical contributions have had a lasting impact on electrical engineering and technology, shaping the modern world.
4. Interesting Facts
He was a bright student with a photographic memory.
He possessed a love of poetry. He worked with Thomas Edison.
Because of a lack of funds, his ideas remained in his notebooks, which are still examined by enthusiasts for unexploited clues.
4. More Interesting Facts
He devoted much of his time to the care of wild pigeons in the parks of New York City.
In 1994, a street sign identifying “Nikola Tesla Corner” was installed near the site of his former New York City laboratory, at the intersection of 40th Street and 6th Avenue. He was an eccentric man, driven by compulsions and a progressive germ phobia.
In 2003, a group of engineers founded Tesla Motors, a car company named after Tesla dedicated to building the first fully electricpowered car. Entrepreneur and engineer Elon Musk contributed over $30 million to Tesla in 2004 and serves as the company’s co-founder
Several movies have highlighted Tesla’s life and famous works:
1. The Secret of Nikola Tesla, a 1980 biographical film starring Orson Welles as J. P. Morgan.
2. Nikola Tesla, The Genius Who Lit the World, a 1994 documentary produced by the Tesla Memorial Society and the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, Serbia.
3. The Prestige, a 2006 fictional film about two magicians directed by Christopher Nolan, with rock star David Bowie portraying Tesla.
“Our virtues and our failings are inseparable , like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more”
“I do not think you can name many great inventions that have been made by married men”
“The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane”
