 Use a white Welcome pew card to request prayers or membership information  See an usher for hearing assistance devices with user controlled volume, NRSV Bibles, large print order of service and hymns.

 Children’s bulletins and ’Rainbow Bags’ with quiet toys are located at the Children’s Worship Station in the narthex. Please return the bags after worship.

 There is a staffed nursery for infants and toddlers at the north end of the building.  There is a Prayer Room available for prayer and meditation at the north end of the building.

Today is Homecoming Sunday Everyone is invited to the Homecoming Sunday Celebration out on the front lawn. Fifties themed games begin at 10:30am with food being served after 10:30 worship. Join us as we look back to our future!

Ava Elizabeth Rinderknecht, daughter of Mike & Jessica Rinderknecht & sister of Matthew, was born on Wednesday, August 27.

The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates to be included on the ballot for the open positions to be voted on by the congregation at our 2014 Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, December 7.

Sympathy Sympathy to the relatives, family & friends of Ted Rosdahl. Ted passed away on Tuesday, September 2. Ted’s funeral will be at Zion on Monday, September 8, at 11am. Sympathy to the relatives, family & friends of Marge Vassar. Marge passed away on Tuesday, September 2. Marge’s funeral will be at Zion on Tuesday, September 9, at 11am.

Zion’s Youth Choirs Zion’s youth choirs— SONshine Choir (K-2), Joy Choir (Grade 3-5), Youth Choir (Grade 6-12), Ring Forth Handbells (Grade 4-5) and Class Ring Handbells (Grade 6-8), begin Wednesday, September 10. Register at ZionBuffalo.org/music.

Rite of Confirmation The Rite of Confirmation for ninth graders who have completed the requirements, will be on Saturday, September 20 at 1pm.

UpGrade Middle School Ministry

Children in Worship Update Beginning the first day of Sunday School, September 14, children will start each Sunday School hour in worship with their families. The children will be dismissed to Sunday School after the Children’s Message.

UpGrade is a new Zion ministry for students in grades 6-8 starting this fall. UpGrade is a chance to talk about life’s questions in an atmosphere of food, fun and fellowship. UpGrade will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, beginning September 11, from 6:30-8pm. No sign up necessary!

Sunday School will include a large group gathering followed by classroom time with their teacher and small group. Parents will pick children up in their classrooms. If you have any questions, please attend the Sunday School Open House on Saturday, September 13, at 10am or contact Kirsten Kelly, Director of Children & Family Ministries at Kirsten@ZionBuffalo.org.

Cruise the St. Croix and enjoy a tasty lunch buffet or the jazz festival and local shops with the Zionaires on Saturday, October 4. Bus leaves from Discovery Elementary, door one at 8:30am. Register at the Information Desk before September 25. Trip options are:

Thank you for taking time to fill out a communion card. The communion cards are not a means of attendance, but used to define voting members at Zion. The synod also requires a communion report each year. Write your last name on the first line, then list the first names of only those taking communion.

Baptism Class Anyone wishing to schedule a baptism is asked to attend a class prior to the date of the baptism. The next class is Sunday, October 12, at noon in the library. Expectant parents, as well as those who already are parents, may attend the class. Scheduling of the actual baptism will take place at the class.

Vegetable Garden Exchange Gardeners, bring in your extra garden produce to share with others at Zion. The garden exchange table is located near the church office.

Old Testament Bible Study—Samuel I and II An Old Testament Bible Study presented by Rick Johnson, on the books of Samuel I and II, will meet on Monday evenings, in the library, from 6:30-8:30pm. The study begins September 8. Register online or at the Information Desk. Bring your Bible.

Harvest of Hands Craft Days Harvest of Hands will meet to work on craft projects the second and fourth Tuesdays from 9-11am and Wednesdays from 7-9pm in the Wilderness Room. All are welcome! The next work days are Tuesday, Tuesday, September 9 and Wednesday, September 10.

LifeKeys Discovery Course Join us this fall for the LifeKeys class at Zion, and learn more about what energizes you. The course will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8pm, beginning October 2. Pastor Sara Vanderpan will be teaching the class. Sign up now for at ZionBuffalo.org/lifekeys. Cost to cover materials is $20.

Building Fund Update Overall, our 2014 financial picture is good, but monthly contributions to the Building Fund are currently running a little behind our monthly mortgage payment. The building mortgage is $191,000 per year. Zion’s operating budget is $772,000 which covers day-to-day ministry and staff costs. Thank you for your financial support of God’s work through our congregation.

Stewardship Question & Answer Q: I know we can give offerings through automatic withdrawal. What are the advantages to this? A: The advantages most people talk about are convenience, builtin discipline, and consistency. Even when you miss church, you can still give your offering. The consistency of your automatic deposits helps Zion with its' cash flow. Contact Sue in the church office for more information on automatic withdrawal giving.
