WHAT IF THERE WERE NO WALLS... The Jorejick House - An Open-minded Architecture Thinking current global phenomena through architecture, can architecture become as powerful as an intellectual revolution? Prejudice, selfishness, short-sighted vision and herd mentality are so many human weaknesses that have built the barriers between us for centuries, like a wall that blocks our view and access in architecture. What if we try to think through architecture?
Social connection
Health first
Openness and gathering people together are at the heart of our planning. Our architecture and its shadow suggest a meeting area along the access path of the neighbors that is connected to an outdoor playground. The housing area is located east of the plot where the environment is more protected by Nature. Close to the pathway to the west, the area is remained for grazing.
The healthcare is one of the biggest concerns of our project, therefore the toilets, cattle area and corral are grouped together and separated independently from other spaces. Besides, the wind which comes mainly from the south-east over the year helps to prevent the airborn transmission of bacteria and to evacuate bad smell and smoke from the kitchen.
Evolving architecture Existing state The current state of the site with three huts and Nico’s house.
Construction phase During the construction, the hut to the west and the toilets will be kept. The family will temporarily spend the night in this hut and Nico’s house as well.
Preliminary phase The construction will be done in 2 phases, the right part which will be finished first ensures the essential functions of the house. The goal of separating construction into 2 phases provides flexibility in terms of budget and maneuverability within a precarious family.
Definitive phase The left part which includes the rest of the 3 bedrooms and a bathroom will complete the construction. The existing trees and Nico’s house will enclose the new house so that the whole is united in one, like a family.
Future extension The modularity of our architecture allows the house to grow as the family thrives. With this concept, it is even possible to dispense with architects to compose their own house according to their most personal needs.
Future transformation The house is designed in two parts to keep each part a relative independence. Therefore, this far-sighted composition allows the family to adapt according to demographic changes - the founding of a new family of a child or rental to tourists when children leave for study or work.
