INTERESTING ITEMS What links Pablo Picasso and The film the Battle of Neretva?

ablo Picasso left behind thousands of different works of art and only two film posters. One he did for the Spanish film An Andalusian Dog in 1929 and the other for the 1969 movie The Battle of Neretva. The story begins with one fateful meeting five years before the Neretva “originated” on the silver screen. Veljko Bulajić’s film Skopje 63 was shown in Monte Carlo and attracted the attention not only of the jury and the critics, but also the famous Spanish painter. Coincidentally, Picasso watched Bulajić’s documentary, liked it very much, and so came to the closing ceremony to congratulate him. A few years later Bulajić proposed that Picasso do the poster for his next film, The Battle of Neretva. Having seen the film, the painter agreed. He did a poster in his characteristic Cubism style on a bright red background that symbolised heroism, suffering, blood and the struggle for freedom. Bulajić needlessly worried whether company Jadran Film would have the funds to pay the fee, because all Picasso’s requested was for him to be sent a dozen bottles of wine from Yugoslavia. ablo Pikaso iza sebe je ostavio nekoliko hiljada različitih umetničkih dela i samo dva filmska plakata. Jedan je uradio za španski film „Andaluzijski pas“ iz 1929, a drugi za film „Bitka na Neretvi“ iz 1969. godine. Priča počinje jednim sudbonosnim susretom, pet godina pre nego što je „Neretva“ „potekla“ filmskim platnima. Film „Skopje 63“ Veljka Bulajića na prikazivanju u Monte Karlu privukao je veliku pažnju ne samo žirija i kritičara već i čuvenog španskog slikara. Igrom slučaja Pikaso je pogledao Bulajićev dokumentarac, veoma mu se svideo, pa je došao na završnu svečanost da mu čestita. Nekoliko godina kasnije Bulajić je Pikasu predložio da uradi plakat za njegov sledeći film „Bitka na Neretvi“. Pošto je pogledao film, slikar je pristao. Uradio je plakat u svom karakterističnom kubizmu na jarko crvenoj pozadini koja simbolizuje herojstvo, stradanja, krv i borbu za slobodu. Bulajić se bespotrebno brinuo da li će Jadran film imati da isplati honorar, jer je jedini Pikasov zahtev bio da mu pošalje dvanaest boca vina iz Jugoslavije. Dragana Barjaktarević
