I have always been interested in visual arts, but architecture fascinates me because of its unique properties of requiring both artistic appeal and utility. As an architecture student, I’ve grown to appreciate the variety of perspectives and attitudes that different architects approach the act of creation with. And I’ve grown to appreciate the flexibility of expressing those perspectives. I particularly enjoy conceptual design and the storytelling envolved with it. In addition to the logical puzzle of creating construction and structural details. My time as a student is invaluable, and I hope to continue to learn new ways of seeing and engaging with design throughout my architectural career.

Multi-family housing projects offer a unique opportunity to explore how architecture influences and structures people’s lives in the most intimate setting of the domicile. Melting Popsicles celebrates the ideas of childhood and of the family unit. The bright colors of the facade evoke childhood whimsy. The simple blockiness of the building references children’s building blocks, and the interlocking of the units represents the interlocking of puzzle pieces. Moreover, the tension between private and public space is examined by dissolving the enclosure of the units through the inclusion of a balcony that doubles as a sleeping porch.

A pallative care facility offers the unique experience of designing the final moments of one’s life. This 40,000 SF center located on W. San Vincente Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, seeks to celebrate the macabe nature of death, decay, and ultimately find beauty in the transient nature of both life and death. Central to the design was the idea of impermanence-- the program connects heavily trafficked areas, such as the lobby, with a higher degree of transcience to those of the low trafficked but high permanence, such as the patient rooms. This was to ensure that the patients, wether they be bed-ridden, or have low mobility, would be able to experience the life flowing throughout the building, temporary as it may be.

Social isolation is a phenomenon that affects people universally. In Japan, it is known as Hikkikomori. We seek to remedy the underlaying cause of social isolation through a rehabilitative center focusing on overall mental, physical, and spiritual wellness for women through a connection with nature and emphasis on art therapy. We seek to connect people with one another, gradually, and on their own terms to promote sustainable health of the mind, body, and soul. Additionally, Harae embodies the idea of healing as a cycle and process. Patients are housed in differerent residencies corresponding to each step of the cycle. These residencies’ facilitate healing through their unique programs and connections to nature. Lastly, the residents are able to connect with the general public through their art housed in the gallery. The residents’ journey of healing is celebrated through the kintsugi paths that connect each “step” of the process.

ILLUSTRATIONS & GRAPHICS
The illustrations were done on study abroad trips to Florence, Italy for the Cerritos College Program,. As well as in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, Japan for the Cal Poly Pomona Program. The graphics were done for the Neutra Award Ceremony and Richard Chylinski Memorial hosted by the Cal Poly Pomona architecture department. I worked with the CPP Architecture program chairman and CPP NOMAS chapter vice-president to design the graphics. They were printed and distributed as posters and flyers on campus and digitally.
