Every September, the charming Belgian border town of Lanaken becomes the epicenter of the international equestrian world. It’s that time of the year when Zangersheide hosts the prestigious FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses, an event that has been eagerly anticipated by horse enthusiasts for decades. This spectacle brings the brightest young talents from the equine world together, as 5-, 6-, and

5-, 6- and 7-year-old top-class jumping horses gather for their World Championships. But that’s not all as Zangersheide also hosts the exclusive and esteemed “Sires of the World” competition for licensed stallions alongside the stallion selection process, the Zangersheide Quality Auction and the Belgian Jumping Championship which captivate the hearts of horse enthusiasts.

At this exceptional event in Lanaken, the world of sport, breeding and commerce seamlessly connect. For decades, this unique and allencompassing event has held its place as the ultimate destination for those who seek the very best in equestrian world. Background

Zangersheide’s story began in 1963 when entrepreneur Léon Melchior, a successful businessman, took his first step into the equestrian world with the acquisition of his horse ‘Richette’. What started as a simple journey evolved into a pioneering venture in horse breeding. Driven by innovation, Léon Melchior didn’t see another option but to establish his own studbook in 1992, Studbook Zangersheide vzw. From that moment onwards every breeder can put the suffix ‘Z’ behind their horse’s name, as a quality label for sports and breeding. Not long after that, also the first World Championship for Young Horses was organised at Zangersheide which until today, more then 30 years later, is still known under the name of ‘FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses’.

In 2010, Judy Ann Melchior took the reins of Studfarm Zangersheide over from her father with the same intentions but an even stronger focus on connecting breeding with the sport. With new concepts such as the Zangersheide online auction, Zangersheide once again showed to be constantly on the lookout for innovations. Now in 2024, Studfarm Zangersheide in Lanaken is among the world’s best and the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses stands as the must attend event for breeders, dealers and riders. Zangersheide’s auction house sells hundreds of foals and horses yearly, with innovations and new events every year. Yet, at our core, we cherish the love for horse jumping and the profound respect for dedicated breeders. The inseparable bond between breeding and sport remains our guiding principle.

At the Z-Quality Auction, we consistently push the boundaries of excellence. In 2022 we witnessed a historic moment as a foal broke the world record, selling for over 300,000 euros. If you seek excitement in the equestrian world, our three spectacular auction evenings offer a unique chance to acquire the world’s finest foals and young horses. These Zangersheide foals and young horses are one by one carefully selected out of several hundred foals and young horses, all especially for you.
