The hotel features a total of 23 rooms, comprising various configurations to cater to different preferences and needs, including double rooms, luxury doubles, suites, four-bed accommodations, backpacker lodgings, and executive suites. Due to the unique shape of the land and specific room requirements, all rooms are strategically positioned on a single side of the property.

In our design, we've prioritized the creation of a spacious and inviting central area, allowing the heart of the architecture to breathe. This central space serves as a shared area for all guests, fostering a sense of community and providing a welcoming environment for relaxation and socialization.

By consolidating the rooms on one side, we've optimized the layout to enhance functionality while also ensuring each guest has access to common amenities and communal areas. This approach not only maximizes the use of available space but also enhances the overall guest experience, promoting interaction and connectivity among visitors.

Our architecture is nestled amidst an island forest, just a short walk from the sea. Surrounded by lush trees, our design is all about embracing nature and seamlessly blending it with concrete.

We wanted to create a space where the outdoors and indoors merge effortlessly. So, we made sure to let in plenty of natural light and let the sea breeze and sunlight influence the architecture.

We carefully planned the lighting to make the most of natural light, using different materials to play with transparency and create beautiful patterns as the sun moves across the sky.

n response to our client's request for simplicity, we have crafted a room design that allows the natural beauty of materials to take center stage. Embracing the raw elegance of concrete, we have opted to let its texture speak for itself, serving as a striking backdrop for the interior space.

To complement the industrial charm of concrete, we have incorporated cherry wood accents for interior decoration. The warm tones and rich grain of cherry wood infuse the space with a sense of warmth and sophistication, adding depth and character to the minimalist design.

For the flooring, we have selected a light grey terrazzo, carefully chosen to harmonize with the color palette of the concrete while introducing a subtle contrast in texture. The smooth finish of the terrazzo juxtaposes against the roughness of the concrete, creating a visually dynamic interplay between the two materials.

This thoughtful combination of materials not only enhances the visual appeal of the room but also imbues it with a sense of understated luxury and timeless elegance. By embracing simplicity and allowing the inherent beauty of materials to shine, we have created a space that is both inviting and effortlessly chic.

Situated in Chengdu, China, our groundbreaking project is a department store unlike any other. Built almost entirely underground, it defies conventional design norms to offer a unique and immersive shopping experience.

Comprising two distinct department stores and a vibrant retail village, our project reimagines the concept of retail space, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding urban landscape. Anchored by transit-oriented development (TOD) infrastructure, lush parkland, and high-end shopping centers, the department store serves as a dynamic hub of commerce and culture.

With a total investment of $725 million USD, our vision is to create a destination that transcends traditional retail paradigms. By harnessing the innovative design and engineering prowess, we have transformed the subterranean space into a bustling marketplace that caters to the diverse needs and preferences of modern consumers.

In Chengdu, China, our project covers a vast area of 370,000 square meters. It's a collaborative effort involving various companies, from landscape design to engineering.

At its core, the project features a large underground plaza that extends to ground level. To bring natural light into the underground spaces and overcome soil constraints, we created openings and corridors throughout the structure. These openings not only illuminate the interior but also serve as gathering spaces for visitors. By blending natural light with innovative design, we've created a dynamic environment that redefines urban living in Chengdu.

In our project, SKP-S is the main attraction. Teaming up with Gentle Monster, a popular Korean sunglass brand, we've themed the area around "human exploration on earth."

Throughout the mall, you'll find art installations and cool mechanical displays inspired by this theme. These aren't just decorations—they're interactive experiences that make shopping an adventure. SKP-S isn't your average shopping spot. It's a place where art meets shopping, giving you a unique and exciting experience every time you visit.

Haarlem House Haarlem House

The three story house is situated at Haarlem, the the building was built around the 1900.The characteristic original layout of the terraced house consists of a narrow and a wide bay. The narrow bay houses the entrance, stairway and kitchen, while the large bay houses the living room and dining room connected by a typical ensuite doorway. The narrow "service" bay was connected by small door openings with the living area.

The house is completely refurbished and extended in close and fruitful collaboration with our clients. The overhauling thought of the extension is based on the principle of rooms that are connected by large openings. A thorough study of the different layouts in relation to the program and their relationship with the garden resulted in a proposal for a wedge-shaped extension. The angled rear facade provides extra space in the kitchen, while offering more space for a sunny terrace in the garden.

Drawings-Model 2019-2021 Haarlem House

The ground floor plan is conceived as a collection of connected rooms with different sizes and shapes. A roof light over the full width of the house ensures that plenty of daylight enters the heart of the house. Large openings enable free circulation around the rooms while the spaces can be perceived differently from certain angles. From a certain room the house might be perceived as a collection of rooms, while from another angle it can seem to be a singular large space with a central column.

The first floor is arranged around a v-shaped hallway. Via the new stairwell to the top floor davlight floods this compact space. The angle of the hallway provides different views into each of the adjoining rooms. The top floor and roof terrace, which have been added in 1970s, have been refinished and redecorated.

We tried to keep the exterior of the extension understated. The facade is clad with charred wood in a carefully designed pattern of ribs and planks. A timber folding door connects the garden room to the terrace, while a large fixed window provides a view of the garden from the entrance and kitchen. The facade of the extension is finished with an aged copper coping.

In the flooring of the ground floor the original division between "service" and living is still visible. Colourful tiling that matches the tones of the original terrazzo entrance floor is used in the hall and kitchen. In the living, dining and garden room an aged timber floor is used. The colour palette of the floors and walls is developed together with our clients and not only draws inspiration from the original stained glass in the sliding doors on the ground floor but is also in harmony with their furniture and art collection.

House in the Dunes House in the Dunes

house in the dunes

The holiday house in located in the unique dune landscape of Terschelling, one of the Wadden islands in The Netherlands. From a distance the house appears as a simple single-storey building with an asymmetrical roof, referring to the existing surrounding holiday houses in the area. Upon closer inspection the lower ground floor becomes visible. The largest part of the house is hidden into the landscape.

The house is constructed as a stacking of three elements: a solid concrete base, a panoramic window that connects the ground floor to the surrounding dune landscape and an asymmetrical timber roof. The majority of the house is prefabricated to reduce construction time on site and limit the impact on the surrounding area. The elements of the pigmented concrete base have been cast in the factory, while the ground floor and roof construction are built up out of cross laminated timber (CLT), making this the first CLT construction on Terschelling. The roof is clad with board and batten Accoya planks.Combining these different elements results in an exterior with a variety of subtle rhythms and textures.

house in the dunes 2020-2021 Drawings

The materials and colour palette of the house is borrowed from the landscape. As the the Iroko window frames and Accoya roof planks age, the building will slowly turn grey and blend further into the landscape. The spaces are heated and cooled by a ground-source heat pump. Ventilation grills have been integrated into the timber window frames in order to provide natural ventilation. The overhang of the timber roof protects the building from a high sun in the summer and is combined with demountable timber sunscreens which can be be manually moved to create shadow and privacy.

Our design for the education centre retains the smallscale nature of the existing school, while doubling its capacity and improving its facilities. By locating the sports hall underground and organising the programme in four different volumes around a central square a complex with an appropriate scale to its surroundings is created. The square from which the nursery, community centre, school and sports hall can be entered, will function as a public room where the neighbourhood of Fruerlund can gather.

The division of the programme into individual volumes provides direct access for all functions to the surrounding greenery and makes the different functions legible, thus creating clarity at first glance. The sloping terrain makes it possible to connect the individual buildings on the lower ground level via a learning corridor with views into the sports hall. This organisation enables a flexible use of the school in multiple zones that can be either connected or disconnected taking into consideration potential use of areas by the community. On the square, the bell and clock tower marks the school as a public place of assembly within the wider context.

City Collage City

We propose to build a city, inspired by four visionary urban plans from the past, which together form our pitch for Unfair20: Collage City. An exhibition design that is characterized by four unique areas, each with its own character: coulisses, light-air-space, square and superstructure. Well-positioned and carefully designed openings in the walls allow infinitely different routes and offer beautiful views through all four areas. A bridge with a view over the central square acts as a landmark and forms the literal highlight of the design.
