Long Hu Park is located in the east of Handan city center, China, with Tai Hang Mountain in the southwest. The water of Long Lake originates from the Fu Yang River, which is known as the "Handan Mother River". The shape of the pavilion is taken from TaiHang mountain. The layers of semi-transparent boards outline the streamline shape, as a metaphor of the mountain, which is also an element that connects nature and people. The design of its interior stair is intended to create a poetic space, letting visitors to visualize the poem of "returning dozens of steps, suddenly bright". The ends of the poetic space correspond to the northwest and southeast directions, respectively, where people can enjoy sunset and sunrise. The characteristic of its transparent material makes the shadows appear when the tourists go through it, it seems like a shadow play is quietly released. At the same time, it echoes many cultural elements in Long Hu Park, such as the stone monument Gu Zhao Yi Feng. Look up at the sky, which is reflected in the river. The mountains and waters are linked together, which not only maps the surrounding natural environment, but also becomes a dialogue channel between historical elements and modern civilization.

Jinan shadow puppet is the first world-class cultural art form heritage from Handan. In order to attract public attention and love for this traditional craft and local opera art form, this design uses Jinan shadow play as a design element to integrate modern technology with traditional art, to enhance and showcase Handan's social image and urban characteristics, and to improve the public service capacity in Long Hu Park. In the design, a durable material called polycarbonate sheet is used instead of soft and fragile leather, and it is applied to modern construction technology. In this three-dimensional world of shadow play, history and citizens are the main parts, and the structure is used as a link to achieve a dialogue between ancient and modern times. The project is located in Handan Long Lake Park, in the central area connected by the Ancient Zhao site, the Time Tunnel and the Lotus Pond scenic spot. In addition, the project is close to residential areas, making it easy for nearby residents to visit.

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The design uses 63 sets of cream colored polycarbonate panels to simulate the landscape setting in shadow puppet, creating a hazy visual sensation that is displayed to the public. While processing and laser cutting was done at the factory, groundwork could be done on site. 63 sets of polycarbonate panels were fixed to the ground by angles pre-built on the platform. In addition, laser projection technology is used to project images of shadow puppet culture on the pavilion. The pavilion represents a fusion of ancient Handan culture and modern technology.
