WINFIELD LITTLE LEAGUE – BRAVES | #8 | PITCHER, FIRST BASE, THIRD BASE #8

From Winfield, West Virginia, Parker Mattocks is stepping up and standing out as a key player for the Winfield Little League Braves. Wearing #8, Parker brings power and versatility to the field, playing pitcher, first base, and third base with confidence and skill.

Parker has been playing baseball for five years, driven purely by a love for the game. That love paid off big this season when he hit his first triple—a moment he’ll never forget and one that marks a major milestone in his baseball journey.

His favorite team is the Baltimore Orioles, and he looks up to MLB star Elly De La Cruz, admiring his energy and fearless style of play. Like his favorite player, Parker brings excitement and determination to every game.

Off the field, Parker enjoys fishing, playing Fortnite, and riding dirt bikes—a perfect mix of adventure, competition, and fun. But when asked what he loves most about baseball, he keeps it simple: “I get to play baseball.” That says it all.

With big dreams, a strong arm, and a love for every part of the game, Parker Mattocks is a rising talent to keep your eye on—both on the mound and at the plate.

PLAYER PROFILE

WINFIELD LITTLE LEAGUE – PINK SOX | #25 | CENTER FIELD & SECOND BASE #25

Meet Lydia Myers, an all-around athlete from Winfield, West Virginia, who brings talent, hustle, and heart to the Winfield Little League Pink Sox. Wearing #25, Lydia shines in both center field and second base, covering ground and making plays with confidence and energy.

Lydia has been playing softball since preschool, and it’s a love that continues to grow with every game. This season, she hit a major milestone—smashing a triple off a live pitcher for the first time, a moment she’ll always remember and one that shows just how far her hard work has taken her.

A huge fan of Marshall Softball, Lydia looks up to Kasia Parks (#4) as her favorite player, admiring her skills and the way she plays the game. But Lydia’s biggest role model is someone closer to home: her Pawpaw Jim. “He teaches me everything about any sport I play, always works with me outside of practice, and comes to all my games,” she says.

Outside of softball, Lydia stays active and creative. She loves playing basketball and volleyball, and enjoys drawing in her free time—bringing both athleticism and imagination to everything she does.

For Lydia, the best part of being on a team is all about connection: “All the friends you make from different schools,” she says. It’s that team spirit and sense of community that makes the game even more meaningful.

With drive, support, and a growing list of achievements, Lydia Myers is a standout player with a bright future ahead—both on the field and beyond.

FAITH IN SPORTS GOD’S POWER IN OUR WEAKNESS

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." – Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)

In the world of youth sports, every player knows what it feels like to be tired—physically, mentally, and even emotionally. Whether it's a long practice under the summer sun, a tough game that doesn’t go your way, or the pressure to keep improving, exhaustion is part of the journey. But Isaiah 40:29 offers encouragement that hits home for any athlete chasing their goals: God gives strength to the weary.

This verse isn't just about spiritual strength. It's a reminder that God cares about every part of your life—including what happens on the field, court, or track. When you're giving your all and feel like you have nothing left, God doesn't walk away. He steps in.

For young athletes, this means two powerful truths:

1.It's okay to be tired. Even the best athletes run out of steam. Feeling worn out doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re human. Isaiah 40:29 tells us that God sees our limits and wants to lift us up, not tear us down.

1.Strength doesn’t just come from muscles. The kind of strength Isaiah is talking about comes from within. It's the courage to keep going, the focus to stay sharp, and the heart to support your teammates. When you lean on God, you tap into a strength that doesn’t fade with fatigue or fear.

So next time you're on the field and feel like quitting, remember Isaiah 40:29. Say a prayer, take a breath, and trust that God is fueling you for more than just winning—He’s shaping your spirit. And in His eyes, playing with faith, perseverance, and heart is the greatest victory of all.

PCTC STUDENTS BUILD BIKES TO HELP LOCAL KIDS

Students in the 4T Program at Putnam Career and Technical Center just finished something amazing— they built 12 brand-new bikes and donated them to Mission WV to help kids right here in our community!

But this wasn’t your average school project. These high school students weren’t given instructions or a list of parts. Instead, they had to figure it all out themselves! They worked in teams to create their own guides, build a parts list, and put each bike together piece by piece. It was a real challenge, but they worked hard, supported each other, and got the job done.

The big moment came when they showed off their Capstone project to PCTC staff and leaders from Toyota. Everyone was impressed with how the students used teamwork, problem-solving, and technical skills to create something awesome.

The best part? These bikes will be given to kids in need through Mission WV. That means the students not only learned new skills—they also made a big difference in other kids’ lives.

If you love building things, working with your hands, and solving problems, career and technical education (CTE) might be a great path for you. At PCTC, students like you get to learn cool, hands-on skills that help you prepare for exciting careers—and help others along the way!
