Roger “R.J.” Bell may only be in his second year of football, but he’s already making a name for himself as a hardworking and determined athlete. A proud member of the Barboursville Pirates C-Team, R.J. wears No. 12 and lines up as a JV running back, bringing energy and grit to every play.
One of his favorite memories from this season came under the Friday night lights at the Homecoming game, a moment he’ll never forget. His inspiration on the field is Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, and like his favorite player, R.J. thrives on intensity, effort, and a love for the game.
Football hasn’t just been about winning for R.J.—it’s about growth. “Learning new things, the bond we build as a team, and great coaches” are what he loves most about being part of the Pirates. That strong sense of teamwork has helped him push forward and develop into the player he is today.

Outside of football, R.J. enjoys riding his bike, playing dodgeball, and spending time with friends. His biggest role model isn’t a professional athlete —it’s his mom. “She pushed me to be the best version of myself,” he says, a reflection of the determination and drive she’s inspired in him.
His mom’s encouragement says it all: “So proud of you, R.J. You have come such a long way since last season. Keep up the good work. Momma loves you.” With that kind of support and his own dedication, the future looks bright for this young athlete from Barboursville.

CABELL MIDLAND KNIGHTS | # 22 & 39 | GOALIE AND MIDFIELDER
From Barboursville, West Virginia, Karsen-Owen Cremeans has built an eight-year soccer journey rooted in resilience, growth, and love for the game. He first stepped onto the field back in second grade, inspired by watching his older sister play, and while he’s tried other sports along the way, soccer is the one that truly stuck. Today, Karsen proudly represents the Cabell Midland Knights as a versatile goalie and midfielder, wearing numbers 22 and 39.
This season brought one of Karsen’s most memorable moments yet. Typically known for guarding the net, he had the opportunity to spend more time on the field—and made the most of it. Getting to score after transitioning out of goal was a thrilling experience and a reminder of how rewarding it can be to step into something new. He’s also a fan of Arsenal and Marshall University, drawing inspiration from both the global and local sides of the game.
Karsen credits soccer with shaping more than just his athletic skills. Being part of a team has given him motivation to succeed in school and a sense of belonging that extends beyond the field, with many teammates sharing his classes and daily routine. He especially respects fellow player Connor Huff, someone he only played one season with but deeply admires for his talent and work ethic.

Outside of soccer, Karsen values staying healthy —both mentally and physically. He enjoys spending time with friends, playing Xbox, collecting cologne, and balancing life with positivity. When it comes to role models, Karsen looks inward and outward at the same time. Rather than naming a single person, he strives to be a role model himself, especially for younger athletes—hoping to leave a strong, genuine impression simply by being a good person.
Through hard work, self-awareness, and teamwork, Karsen-Owen Cremeans continues to grow on and off the field, proving that progress, passion, and perseverance matter just as much as goals on the scoreboard.

From Barboursville, West Virginia, Za’Vion Beckett is a rising football talent whose confidence, determination, and love for the game set him apart. Wearing No. 23 for the Cabell Midland Knights, Za’Vion lines up at cornerback—a position that demands speed, focus, and fearless competition. After nine years of playing football, it’s clear he’s exactly where he’s always wanted to be.
One of the defining highlights of Za’Vion’s season came on the defensive side of the ball. As a freshman, he earned First Team All-Conference honors at cornerback, an impressive achievement that reflects both his work ethic and natural ability. A proud fan of West Virginia University, Za’Vion also draws inspiration from NFL standout Michael Thomas, modeling his game after elite playmakers who approach every snap with purpose.
For Za’Vion, football is about more than wins or awards— it’s about brotherhood. Being part of a team means trusting the players beside you and pushing each other toward a common goal. That sense of unity is something he values deeply and carries with him on and off the field.
Outside of football, Za’Vion keeps things close to home. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, staying grounded by the people who support him most. When asked about his biggest role model, his answer is simple and powerful: himself. Za’Vion believes in trusting his ability, putting faith in his mindset, and knowing that anything is possible when you truly commit to your goals.
With confidence as his foundation and perseverance driving him forward, Za’Vion Beckett continues to prove that belief—paired with hard work—can take you anywhere.

Hard-hitting, determined, and full of heart, Colt Frye is a young athlete who’s proving that dedication pays off. A proud member of the Barboursville Youth Football League, Colt takes the field wearing number 90, holding down the defense as a tough and focused
This season brought one of Colt’s biggest highlights yet — scoring his very first touchdown, a moment he says he’ll never forget. “It felt awesome,” Colt says. “All the hard work finally paid off.” That kind of attitude has earned him respect from coaches and teammates alike.
Colt has been playing football for four years, inspired by watching games with his friends and family. His love for the sport grows every season, fueled by the excitement of the game and the bond he shares with his team. “The best part,” he says, “is being able to make memories with my closest friends every day.”
Off the field, Colt enjoys the great outdoors — he loves fishing, hunting, and hanging out with friends. A devoted Steelers fan, his favorite player is T.J. Watt, whose toughness and leadership inspire him to give his all every play.
When it comes to real-life heroes, Colt looks no further than home. “My biggest role model is my dad,” he says. “He always pushes me to be the best I can.”
His family couldn’t be prouder, sharing this message: “We are proud of your hard work, Colt. Keep trying your best!” With that drive and heart, there’s no doubt Colt Frye will keep tackling every goal — on and off the field.

Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
In sports, mistakes are unavoidable. A dropped pass, a missed shot, a strikeout, or a fall during a routine can happen to even the best athletes. What separates strong competitors from the rest isn’t perfection, it’s how quickly they reset and move forward. Coaches often call this the “next play mentality.”
The next play mentality means refusing to let one mistake define the rest of the game. Athletes are taught to shake it off, refocus, and be ready for what’s coming next. Dwelling on the past only slows reaction time, weakens confidence, and hurts the team. Success comes from staying present and prepared.
The Bible encourages this same mindset in our faith. In Philippians, Paul reminds us to forget what is behind and press forward toward the goal God has set before us. This doesn’t mean ignoring lessons from the past—it means not allowing past failures to control our future. Just like in sports, growth happens when we learn, adjust, and move on.
This mindset applies beyond game moments. In practice, athletes make hundreds of mistakes while learning new skills. Those errors aren’t signs of weakness; they’re part of the process. Spiritually, God calls us to grow in the same way—by allowing grace to guide us forward rather than guilt holding us back.
Having a next play mentality also affects how athletes treat their teammates. Encouragement after a mistake builds trust and confidence, while criticism only adds pressure. When players support each other, they reflect Christ’s love in action. Colossians 3:13 reminds us to forgive one another just as the Lord forgave us—a principle that strengthens both teams and faith.
Even victories require a next play mentality. Celebrating is important, but staying humble and focused prepares athletes for the next challenge. Every game, practice, and season is part of a longer journey, and each moment is an opportunity to honor God through effort, attitude, and perseverance.
Faith teaches us that God’s grace is new every day. When athletes embrace that truth, they learn they are never defined by one bad play—or one big win. What matters most is the effort, character, and faith they bring into the next moment.
