Editor's note There is something about winter that brings unproductive in everything that one had embarked on when the year started. The pandemic has not been making it easier for some of us. I have also realized something when it comes to church attendance in winter, the attendance goes down. I have also realized that I seem to spend less time with God during winter.  This month's theme should encourage us to keep going and not give up. We need to have faith with the aim of keeping doing something, spend time with God eventually you will increase the time. The aim of this month's read is to give you a bit of faith and carry on to the rest the year. We need to adjust to our new normal of masks and social distance. Events are not as fun as we knew but limited to 50 people and even the time is limited. Hope you enjoy this read and see you next month.  Love you always and God loves you forever.

THE SONG ''IT IS WELL'' Can you imagine everything in your life going well? You’re happily married, have five beautiful children, at the pinnacle of your career and you’ve even managed to squirrel away enough money to provide for your family’s every want and need. Under circumstances like that, it’s easy to say ‘it is well with my soul.’But what if tragedy struck? Not once, but multiple times. What if your golden life, your ticket to easy street, was taken away in the blink of an eye, at no cause of your own? That is exactly what happened to Horatio Spafford, the man who wrote one of the most soul-stirring hymns in the Christian hymnal, “It Is Well with My Soul.” Horatio Gates Spafford was born in New York, on 20th October 1828, but it was in Chicago that he became wellknown for his clear Christian testimony. He, and his wife Anna were active in their church, and their home was always open to visitors. They counted the world-famous evangelist, Dwight L. Moody, among their friends. They were blest with five children, and considerable wealth. Horatio was a lawyer, and owned a great deal of property in his home city. Not unlike Job in the Old Testament of the Bible, tragedy came in great measure to this happy home. When four years old, their son, Horatio Jnr, died suddenly of scarlet fever. Then only a year later, in October 1871, a massive fire swept through downtown Chicago, devastating the city, including many properties owned by Horatio. That day, almost 300 people lost their lives, and around 100,000 were made homeless. Despite their own substantial financial loss, the Spaffords sought to demonstrate the love of Christ, by assisting those who were grief-stricken and in great need. Two years later, in 1873, Spafford decided his family should take a holiday in England, knowing that his friend, the evangelist D. L. Moody, would be preaching there in the autumn. Horatio was delayed because of business, so he sent his family ahead: his wife and their four remaining children, all daughters, 11 year old Anna, 9 year old Margaret Lee, 5 year old Elizabeth, and 2 year old Tanetta.

Another Tragedy

On 22nd November 1873, while crossing the Atlantic on the steamship, Ville du Havre, their vessel was struck by an iron sailing ship. Two hundred and twenty six people lost their lives, as the Ville du Havre sank within only twelve minutes. All four of Horatio Spafford’s daughters perished, but remarkably Anna Spafford survived the tragedy. Those rescued, including Anna, who was found unconscious, floating on a plank of wood, subsequently arrived in Cardiff, South Wales. Upon arrival there, Anna immediately sent a telegram to her husband, which included the words “Saved alone….”

Receiving Anna’s message, he set off at once to be reunited with his wife. One particular day, during the voyage, the captain summoned him to the bridge of the vessel. Pointing to his charts, he explained that they were then passing over the very spot where the Ville du Havre had sunk, and where his daughters had died. It is said that Spafford returned to his cabin and wrote the hymn “It is well with my soul” there and then, the first line of which is, “When peace like a river, attendeth my way..” There are other accounts which say that it was written at a later date, but obviously the voyage was one of deep pathos, and is the clear inspiration of the moving and well-loved hymn. Horatio’s faith in God never faltered. He later wrote to Anna’s half-sister, “On Thursday last, we passed over the spot where she went down, in mid-ocean, the waters three miles deep. But I do not think of our dear ones there. They are safe….. dear lambs”. After Anna was rescued, Pastor Nathaniel Weiss, one of the ministers travelling with the surviving group, remembered hearing Anna say, “God gave me four daughters. Now they have been taken from me. Someday I will understand why. ”Naturally Anna was utterly devastated, but she testified that in her grief and despair, she had been conscious of a soft voice speaking to her, “You were saved for a purpose!” She remembered something a friend had once said, “It’s easy to be grateful and good when you have so much, but take care that you are not a fair-weather friend to God. ”Following this deep tragedy, Anna gave birth to three more children, but she and Horatio were not spared even more sadness, as on February 11th, 1880, their only son, Horatio (named after the brother who had died, and also after his father), he also died at the age of four. Further Service In August 1881 the Spaffords left America with a number of other like-minded Christians, and settled in Jerusalem. There they served the needy, helped the poor, and cared for the sick, and took in homeless children. Their desire was to show those living about them, the love of Jesus. The original manuscript of the Spafford’s hymn has only four verses, but later another verse was added. The music, which was written by Philip Bliss, was named after the ship on which Horatio and Anna’s daughters had died – Ville du Havre.Horatio Spafford died of malaria on 16th October 1888. Anna Spafford continued to work in the surrounding areas of Jerusalem until her own death in 1923. Both Horatio and Anna were laid to rest in Jerusalem. It can truly be said, in the words that Spafford penned that, “It is well with their souls.”

Real talk Hebrews 11:1-3 (NKJV), the bible tells us that, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” As Christians, we believe in the power of resurrection, we believe that Jesus Christ the son of God died for us so that we may be saved and have eternal life. This forms the basis of our faith in God, that, if we believe in Him who raised our savior, then He is capable of doing for us what we seek from Him and or what we believe He can do. God wants us to have complete faith in Him, to surrender everything to Him so that he takes full control of every aspect of our lives and not certain aspects of our lives. Our thoughts, actions, behavior, attitude, way of live e.t.c must be inspired by the Spirit of God who lives in us, who understands our inner most personas and is therefore able to intercede for us (Romans 8:2627). When we relate these words to our world today, we realize that there are so many kinds of believers. Unlike, believers of the olden days who trusted God with their lives, e.g. Abraham, Moses, etc, believers of today feel so much entitled to receive God’s blessings, mercy, kindness, love so on and so forth, despite not doing God’s will. They delight much in the God of miracles, they select which laws to obey and which ones to bend to their satisfaction. The question is, is our God a changing God that He may be different today from who He was in the olden days? The answer is No, He is still the same and He wants true believers who worship Him in truth and in Spirit, who will live according to His laws and submit to Him with their soul, body and mind. The world we live in today has changed so much that half the time we

are not able to recognize right from wrong; that we are willing to go to all lengths to manipulate the truth to suite our circumstances. We are comfortable turning a blind eye to so much unjust that is happening around us for our own humanly benefits. On the other hand, the bible tells us that “Faith without Actions is the same as dead”, the critical question is “what is it that you are doing to make sure that you restore the Kingdom of God?” More often than not, believers feel that there is still time before they can start serving God, that they should enjoy their youthful lives however they want and serve God in their old age. In Jeremiah 1:6-7 God instructed Jeremiah to accept his calling in his youth, in the same spirit I say to you today, “you are capable of taking that first step, saying those first words, lending a helping hand, providing a shoulder to cry on to those in need. Bringing the above into context, it is prudent that we look at the past six months or so, wherein, various parts of the world if not the whole world, have been in total shut down due to the covid-19 pandemic. At one point, the world was in complete panic, there was a lot of speculation on what was actually happening, a lot of anxiety of what is to come and uncertainty as to where the world is going. Places of worship have been shut down and most still are. Multitudes had to go for months without fellowship, we have seen some of our brothers and sisters fall into depression, others being involved in violence and abuse while others have been exposed to the dangers of contracting this virus. However, many still remained steadfast amidst all the challenges, taking each day one step at a time and trusting in God to remain our refuge and our fortress, trusted Him to keep the virus at bay and as far away from His children as possible. Nonetheless, how many of us truly believed that no virus is bigger than our God and how many couldn’t help but believe this virus is bigger and will wipe us out? Better still, how many believed the world is coming to an end? How much faith do we have? Is it enough to move mountains? Is it strong enough to speak life into dead situations, dangerous diseases, hunger and poverty, immorality, abusive relationship, e.t.c? Is your faith firm enough not to be shaken

by storms and passing situations? We can draw our strength from 2nd Corinthians 4:13 which states; and since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore spoke, we also believe and therefore speak”.

Are we willing to look at life differently and redirect our steps to align with God’s way of life? There are so many questions, some of which may not have answers for now, but the most important thing is for us to exercise our faith, for every believer has been given a good enough measure of faith and can therefore

speak life into every situation they find themselves in.

When you found yourself alone far away from those who offer you support, were you able to stand unwaveringly in faith, to trust God through

BIBLE STORIES OF FAITH

Esther- Faith Story With Famous Bible Quote “For Such A Time As This” Though Esther was a Jew she was taken as the wife of Ahasuerus, the king of the Medes and Persians. This king had a minister in his court named Haman who devised a plot to eliminate the Jews. Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, learned of the plot and told Esther to talk with the king about the wicked plan. Though Esther was the queen, their relationship was not like that of husbands and wives today. She needed to request an audience of the king just like anyone else would. To enter the king’s presence without an invitation could get Esther killed.Mordecai said that Esther was brought to the position she had “for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14) She was the one who could alert the king of Haman’s plan. Esther responded that she would stand up for her people even if it meant death. She trusted God to guide her in revealing the evil plot against her people. By faith, Esther boldly revealed her heritage as a child of God’s people, the Jews and stopped wicked Haman’s plan.Esther’s Bible story on faith is found in the Old Testament book Esther

Abraham- Old Testament Bible Story of Faith Abraham is mentioned several times in the Bible for some of the great things he accomplished, but Romans 4 says that he was saved because of his faith and not because of this works. Hebrews 11 says that he followed God even though he was not sure where he was going. Abraham is known as a man of faith who faithfully followed the Lord’s leading. God gave Abraham the promise that the Redeemer would come through his family. Abraham and his wife Sarah were past child-bearing age when God gave them a child named Isaac. Even though God had promised that Abraham’s descendants would one day be a great nation, He asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac in Genesis 22.God told Abraham to take Isaac to a mountain to sacrifice him to the Lord. God never intended for Abraham to kill Isaac. This was merely a test to show to us the type of faith Abraham had. As we read the story of Abraham and Isaac we are reminded that God is faithful and that we can place our trust in Him.The Bible Story Of Abraham is found in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament

Moses- Followed God’s Call Through Great Faith Moses was born to a Hebrew family, but because the Jews were growing in numbers and strength, the Pharaoh of Egypt ordered that all their male babies be killed. Moses was spared this fate because his mother placed him in a basket on the river. The Pharaoh’s daughter found the basket and rescued the baby to raise as her own. Moses grew up in the palace among Pharaoh’s family. As he grew he learned of his own family’s plight as slaves. Moses chose to renounce his royal family and assist his Hebrew family. He was banished from the kingdom. God later called him back to Egypt to lead the Israelites from slavery into the land promised to Abraham’s family.Moses did not see himself as the man God could use to take on such a task. However, through faith he led the Israelites as God desired. The story of Moses can be found in the Old Testament of the Bible in the books Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy

Joshua- Inspirational Bible Story of Faith After Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they came to the edge of the Promised Land. As a preparatory step to entering the land, Moses sent twelve spies to learn how best to conquer. The spies brought back news that the land was as good as God had promised. However, ten of the spies reported that there were giants in the land and that they would not be victorious in the battle. They had no faith in the God who had miraculously delivered them from Egypt. The two spies who trusted the Lord, Joshua and Caleb, were the only two adults who entered the Promised Land forty years later. Joshua became the leader of Israel because of his faith. oshua was the general who guided Israel in their victorious battles with the inhabitants of the land. When the walls of Jericho fell, it was because Joshua trusted God and His Word. Joshua led the nation of Israel as a man of faith. The Joshua Bible Story of Faith can be found in the Old Testament books of Exodus, Numbers and Joshua

For a lot of us, there are different reasons why we do certain things. Fitness is not an exception. You may have decided to start on this journey because it has become the latest trend, everyone around you seem to be doing some form of exercise and fear of missing out becomes a driving force, so you join, or it could be that your favorite celebrity does it and you have decided to follow them. The trend or the celebrity becomes your motivation to exercise. The other reasons could be for health reasons, you have recently been warned about your high cholesterol or diabetes and the Doctors firmly suggested that you change your lifestyle and exercise. Improving your health becomes your motivation to exercise. Lastly, you could be one of the few people who decided to start exercising and fell in love with the lifestyle and became passionate and self-motivated to exercise. Motivation is the desire that is driven by the circumstances stated above, it plays a huge role in your fitness journey and therefore, you have to be mindful on what you choose to be your driver through this journey. Numerous as they may be, I have chosen to discuss these three motivational factor;

Trends and celebrity influences Trends or celebrities influence our daily lives. Most people are inclined to follow something because it is the latest trend or because their favorite celebrity is doing it. This approach is good because as long as you look up to that person or you fear missing out, you will exercise and put in the work every day. However, this approach has an expiration date. Trends change all the time and maybe your favorite celebrity embarked on a weight loss program for a role in a movie, once they finish shooting the movie, they stop taking selfies and posting videos of their workouts which may potentially be the end of your motivation to exercise. On the other hand, if your decision to exercise has been driven by a negative health report, your desire to get a clean bill of health becomes your motivation. Â In this instance, your desire is to reach a destination (a clean bill of health) which is not a permanent lifestyle change.

Lastly, there are people who are selfmotivated, people who exercise because they have a desire for permanent lifestyle change from a sedentary to an active lifestyle and have made a conscience decision outside of trends/celebrity and ill heath influence. Self-motivation is a very important attribute to develop and master, because it brings about an internal conviction to achieve and keep going. This will guard you against possibility of giving up because of setbacks and other external factors. Therefore, no matter what changes around you, you will still be able to carry on reaching your goals and setting new ones. Fitness becomes a lifestyle and does not have an expiration date.

This is the motivation that every successful fitness journey is built on. Therefore, start today and try and build your own motivation without externa factors and you will achieve every single goal you set.

THE INSIDES OF FAITH Faith is the weapon we put our hope in ,it is a substance for a solution for unseen things .One would ask themself that what is faith and its purpose in my life as a Christian in this world of hurt and disappointments .Faith is defined like this in book of Hebrews 11:1 as ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen ‘’This here shows us that faith is the only way in having a connection with God can only be accessed through the tangible touch of your experience with God .One for us as the children of God is that what makes our faith not to be in pursuit of its action it is that we have derailed from the will of God and we have let ourselves to loosen the relationship between us and the holy spirit . In continuation faith is the power of belief ,the power of faith is in hoping and trusting God about whatever that you want him to move and shift beyond the veil the devil has over–shadowed you’re life with .This type of believing is the type where you fully trust and know God has given you the power to tell mountains to move at the sound of the dominion and the power of your voice ,also it is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness ,because God after all wants a person who is faithful to him and can wholly depend on him. As we continue to view faith in its perspective and importance in our daily lives they are certain things as believers that we have to approach regarding the way we should live and being practical with our faith, these components can help ones point of view on how we can have a faithful life in God. 1.Faith as knowledge we have to be fully knowledgeable about and how it works in our lives and abide to the wisdom of God which can be accessed through the full understanding of the word of God like in the book of Romans 10:17 ‘Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God ‘see in order for the purpose of faith to prevail in our lives we have to hear and give ourselves to meditate upon the knowledge of the word of God .Let me tell you I know it gets hard and uneasy to regularly read the word of God especially as a young person ,but if one is going to have faith in God you have to come at a point of selfcommitment to his word and his promises and do accordingly.

2.Faith as bridge of peace sometimes life can be so hard and difficult and leave us broken and shunned out ,but I want to tell you hoping and trusting God in the midst of the storm is the greatest step for example let’s take the issue of the woman of blood, 12 years trying to find a solution ,she exercised her faith by believing that if she can touch the garment of Lord she will be healed ,see before meeting Jesus her faith was her strength of peace because she knew that though she has an issue in her life she had to wait till the right time for God to do something. So faith helps us understand that there’s hope and peace in the storm of life. In 2007 ,I got struck by lightning and it affected my life and that was the most horrible journey I went through ,the effects affected me so bad and I always lived under this shadow of fear and despair ,but I had to believe God though I couldn’t see through the tribulation ,so my encouragement to you is that never give on yourself ,maintain your peace in whatever you’re going ,for if you believe ,your faith will take you far.

Now that we have a perspective of life in faith now God uses certain aspects to grow our faith: If you listen or sit under someone who explains the bible in practical ways, your faith grows, so it is important to listen to your pastor and the word he brings in your life. Indulging in the private disciplines of the bible like reading the bible, praying because as you trust God and develop strong habits, your faith strengthens. In your personal ministry, as you serve God and others, because you will see your faith growing, genuinely serving God makes him meet you at your point of need Financial freedom God tests your faithfulness with finances, so if he gives you a beautiful job, tithing and giving helps improve your relationship and your faith

Lastly, I would like to say stay content in your faith journey because faith declares the unknown goodness of Gods promises in your life. Stay blessed

GET YOUR FAITH RIGHT! by T.L Makula Scripture says, “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” I have grown to realize that those first words “and without faith…” are very important. Nothing seems to ever move without faith. Where there is no faith there is a lot of fear, a

Deep down in their hearts, they had a sense of assurance that the change they desired, the change they hoped for was going to be realized someday. The books of history will also recall those who, because of their lack of faith and timidity, did not achieve anything. So

battle, but you’ve got to get your faith right if you’re going to win all the time. Don’t take your eyes off of God. Is it a battle of sickness, or barrenness, or constant storms of life? Don’t take your eyes off of Him! Have a stubborn, childlike faith in Him. I know it doesn’t always make sense, but faith seems to be the language of heaven. Someone has likened it to currency; insinuating that without faith you can’t get anything from

Who remembers the Centurion’s faith? Who remembers the woman with the issue of blood? Who remembers the blind son of Timaeus? Had it not been for his faith in the Lord Jesus’ ability to open his eyes, Bartimaeus would have died a blind man. Faith made all the difference! Faith is always placed on something or someone greater than the individual. So for us Christians, our faith rests on the God of our Lord Jesus. We believe that He’s got the power to do exceeding and beyond all human capabilities.

Maybe you’re wondering how you can get your faith right and make it consistent… Let it be anchored on the character of God because He cannot lie. Life is a constant

Scripture says “For we walk by faith, not by sight”; what do we make out of this statement? You don’t have to see it first to believe it. Your conviction rather rests on the character of the promiser, the one who says it’s possible.
