HUMANE SOCIETY

Pet of the week

I am a 5-1/2 year-old male Domestic Shorthair feline with gorgeous green eyes. At 8 lbs., I am so soft and friendly. An attention-seeking sweetie, I am eager to snuggle my way into your heart and home!

Barney

Canines may not “speak” in a conventional way, but make no mistake about it, they do “speak”. Duke will tell you that he didn’t have such a great life, being poorly cared for, and then abandoned at 10 months old. Now he’s getting excellent care at the HSTC, which he truly deserves. Duke wears his heart on his nose. Look closely - see the pink heart? When you look into Duke’s eyes and see his inner soul – there is a happy, loving and 60 lb. gentle Pit Bull Terrier mix waiting to come out and play. He needs that special person who will nurture him with love, kindness and patience to show him how to trust again. In time, Duke will become the loyal friend you’re looking to have in your life.

Ringing and swinging our way through the holidays

can’t imagine a holiday without music, can you? Whether it’s caroling in the ‘hood, singing around the piano at family gatherings, dancing at holiday parties, or just enjoying the music of the season playing all around us everywhere we go, the fact of the matter is, the holiday just wouldn’t be the same without the opportunity to express our emotions musically. This year, the stockings hung by the chimney (or patio) with care are absolutely jammed with great music courtesy of the incredibly talented musicians who share their time and talent with the Treasure Coast. We just finished the first of four fabulous new Jazz Jams in Vero Beach at the Heritage Center with our Dancin’ Shoes Jazz Jam, and what a fun time it was for all. We’ll be back there on the first Thursday of January, February, and March, so grab some friends and make a road trip for some seriously great music and a load of laughter and fun. This weekend the Fort Pierce

Don Bestor Jazz Ensemble will be swinging at the gazebo by the water in historic downtown Fort Pierce, as we celebrate the season and help put you in the holiday mood at the Jazz Market. You’re already there picking up fresh fruits and veggies, so why not skip the mall this weekend, and find some unique treasures from the arti-

sans who display their wares at the Jazz Market every Saturday morning. If you really want to kick your holiday into high gear, plan on coming out Wednesday, Dec. 18 to Endless Summer Winery, just a mile down the road from Meadowood (formerly Panther Woods) for our second Holiday Fling and a Ring-A-Ding-Ding, featuring Big Band Swing. There will be music, dancing, boutique wines, Florida beers, delicious food, and music, music, music. The whole evening is just $17, which helps Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society continue to provide scholarships for talented, local youth who want to pursue a career in music. Even through the hectic month of December, we’ll still be doing Tuesday Jazz Jams at the Black Box Theatre in Fort Pierce, Wednesday Jazz Jams every other Wednesday at Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens (Dec. 11), Jazz Jams Deux on Dec. 4 and 18 at Tutto Fresco (and if you haven’t
