Wild wanderer
These probably weren’t the trespassers a central Siesta Key condo was hoping to catch when it installed its surveillance cameras, but bobcats are fairly common in Florida and thrive in urban areas. If one wanders into your front yard, don’t be alarmed, said Gary Mores, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. They are more of a threat to your small animals than they are to you. It’s best to give them space and admire them from a distance.

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens conservatory exudes ease. The building, home to an exhibit depicting Marc Chagall’s French Riviera, is almost ethereal. Flowers and fronds surround visitors at almost every turn while music and the sound of falling water fill the air. It’s ironic that a place that elicits such calm is the manifestation of a labor-intensive institutional overhaul. The exhibit was introduced in February and is Selby’s most recent in what is now an indefinite cycle of rotating exhibits — a model that is driving new growth.

Jane Forsyth and Arny Berger of Lexington, Mass., were visiting Sarasota for five days and wanted to see the Marc Chagall exhibit at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The exhibit pairs fine art with horticulture. “We thought it would be an incredible combination,” Forsyth said. “It did not disappoint.”
