The last time the Osprey Avenue bridge was closed for construction on Lift Station 87, Stan Allen couldn’t pull out of his driveway. The Hudson Bayou resident says his narrow street was frequently used as an alternate route once drivers realized Osprey was no longer navigable in January and February. Three key developers of Rosemary District rental housing projects are opposed to joining the selftaxing Downtown Improvement District — for now, at least. At a Nov. 12 meeting, the developers said their reluctance stems from uncertainty. Their projects will be the first large apartment developments in the area, and they aren’t sure what to expect. As a result, the group exploring the possible expansion of the DID began to accept that the Rosemary District isn’t ready to join just yet. “The last thing we want to do is give these guys any heartburn of any shape, size and form,” SEE ROSEMARY PAGE 5A

YOUR TOWN SMA Season’s tidings Cadets at Sarasota Military Academy and Prep school seek to collect enough money to purchase 10,000 wreaths to cover all gravesites at Sarasota National Cemetery through the Wreaths Across America program before their Nov. 30 deadline. At press time, cadets had collected enough to purchase 4,500 wreaths at $15 each. Donations can be made at wreathsacrossamericasarasota.com. “This is about remembering our veterans and honoring the fact that they have served our country and teaching our children about our veterans,” said organizer Katherine Simon, a mother of two SMA cadets.
