St. Armands Circle got into the holiday spirit when residents and businesspeople decorated the Circle’s 51-foot Christmas tree Monday. “What a great community effort, with residents and merchants coming together,” Diana Corrigan said. The Circle will light the tree at its 37th annual Holiday Night of Lights Dec. 4. SEE MORE PHOTOS AT YOUROBSERVER.COM.

The Rev. Vincent Carroll

Carroll to stay put at chapel pulpit Last month, the Longboat Island Chapel announced its senior minister, the Rev. Vincent Carroll, would retire Dec. 31. On Sunday however, parishioners rejoiced when Carroll said he will stay. “This past spring, my wife, Molly, and I had the ground shift underneath us with our health,” Carroll said. “We thought it would be better for us and the church to retire, but the board at the church was able to work out a flexible schedule for us, so we can make our appointments and still be at the church.” Carroll joined the chapel in January 2013 and has helped increase membership and enhance the church’s programs, including the Aging in Paradise Resource Center. “We’re very happy to be able to stay with the island community and our chapel,” Carroll said.
