BACK IN THE Barrel of fun

Have you been wondering what’s up with the orange reflective barrels lining the road along New Pass Bridge? They form a barrier for pedestrians and bicyclists on that side of the bridge while the Florida Department of Transportation undertakes a $2 million rehabilitation project aimed at renovating the east sidewalks, the bridge tender house, electrical systems and gates. The state expects to finish the project this spring, said FDOT spokesman Robin Stublen. But when exactly will the barrels disappear? “Spring of 2017 is the best I can give you,” Stublen said.

Tennis Center teams sweep up competition The Longboat Key Public Tennis Center’s Women’s 3.5 Tri-Cities Tennis League teams swept the competition Jan. 5. The 3.5 American Team won all its matches against the Longboat Key Club, and the 3.5 National Team won all its matches against Lakewood Ranch. It was the second sweep for both teams this season.
